Well that was a let down, it said 'in production' all weekend and then i talked to a rep on chat since i saw my order saying shipped via dell.com and he said "the EDD is 2/16.. it is in shipping confirmed (or whatever), you might get it a day or two earlier but that's about it!"
sigh -
@amcheck: Thanks a lot for those tests!
Did you checked you had Full performance on battery? Because those scores look low compared to the ones on AC power.
Also, I dont want to bother you a lot, did you checked how the cpu multiplier behaved? You can check that with ThrottleStop, that way we can make sure if it throttles
Thanks again -

fmac, been a long while since I've messed with any of this benchmarking. If you don't mind, shoot me over some step by step instructions and I'll be happy to run thru them. -
Wow, 8K on 1600x900? The i7-720QM has a higher CPU score, but those SM2.0/3.0 scores definitely show that this ATI 4670 has some legs!
-
@luxterg DANG IT.... how in the world is yours going faster then mine?? you like ordered later then mine with the same specs (could it be cuz I ordered the 9 cell bat?) and yours is almost about to be shipped while mine has 2 weeks left
-
Hey Texanman,
I have no idea and trust me, I'm equally shocked. I had psychologically prepared to wait till the week of the 19th lol.
I'm in Canada, don't know if that makes a difference (even though it's shipping out of Austin TX apparently). Perhaps it's the 9cell battery? I would be shocked if that was it.
If I was you, I would call Dell and see what they could do!
Good luck, let me know what happens!
P.S. @ innovatedmind .... if your status says "Shipped" then ignore what the online rep said, you'll have your laptop shortly, best guess within 4 business days. They just say later to cover themselves. -
I live in cedar park which is like 10 miles from the round rock dell offices where they do there stuff... I should just like march in and be like WHERES MEH LAPTOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
-
Usually takes about 24 hours to get the tracking number.... I'm embarrassed to admit it... but I've been checking almost every hour on the hour to see if I have one yet lol !!
I expect to see the tracking # tomorrow morning logically. I'll definitely let you know! -
-
I brought a mouse from dell.com recently which I have already received. on that order status, it never had any tracking number.. not even now... -
I purchased a week ago and was sent a FedEx tracking number, if thats any help.
-
Also how did you check yours, did you check the 13 digit purchase id on the website or the order number? My purchase id says shipped but when i do the order number it says in production, and the online rep said my order has been changed "in production" to "Shipped prep" or whatever the heck -
I would Call Dell immediately if I were you. The system is supposes to enter production within a few days, and since yours has been in pre production over half a month there is definately a problem. -
-
-
-
EDIT: It also shows up on the regular site, don't know why they said its out of stock. -
If it says shipped, you have a tracking number. Look on your invoice, it's the "Waybill #".
It probably says something like "awaiting shipment information", but at least you'll have the #. -
on my 'my account' page it shows, pre-production ....
And on the order details page - it says 'in production'
automated phone line says 'order is being processed' -
Well I had the same experience, except the Bluetooth was "out of stock". So maybe try calling and talk to a different rep?
-
Hey guys,
here's a fact.... if it's in "pre-production" .... that means absolutely nothing is happening and 99% of the time it's because a part is out of stock. The other 1% of the time it's a payment issue.
If you're stuck in pre-production, you need to get on the phone, be assertive but polite and demand the truth in a tacktful way because they will not hesitate to give you the "don't worry sir, I see your edd is bla bla, you should see your order go to production in 48 hours bla bla."
Don't be shy to insist on speaking to a supervisor and definitely threaten to cancel your order.
As a matter of fact, if you're stuck in pre-production... you might as well cancel your order and configure a system with the sales rep making sure every piece is in stock... then demand a discount for the difficulty and claim that their dishonesty made you uncomfortable lol.
Anyway, I've definitely had the pre-production problem and it's not fun... especially if you're like me and logging into the dell site to check your status every 5 minutes lol!
Good luck guys, let me know how things are progressing! -
and when I call it says "Order Processing" -
i would love to cancel the order..if i can find something close to the system that i have on order - specially for the price.
I am open for HP too..., but the problem is, right now, i am not able to configure any other system with similar specs... close to that price. -
-
.... was eying the hp envy 15...
the problem is my personal laptop was stolen, and i am left with work laptop.. so....looking for a replacement..... and the sense of urgency... .. and dell is screwing us...
makes me wonder if dell has this 'by design'. .. ie, systems sold at low price points get delayed... i wont be surprised if they processed the orders that way
... ... but agian, on these form i see people who have paid much more than 2k and still waiting.................
well, ... will stop my rant now. -
I mean my purchase order status said "In production" over the weekend and today around 3 it said "Shipped". But when I check the order number status it says in production, the online rep said that my product is ready to be shipped... So I am a little confused, I haven't received a tracking number either! SIGH!
Lux, shed some light on me XD XD
Also did you get your tracking number already?
My setup:
Code:1 224-7380 Studio XPS 16 Notebook 1 317-3513 Intel CoreTM i5 430M processor (2C/4T, 2.26-2.53 GHz, 3MB L3) 1 317-2364 4GB, DDR3, 1333MHz 2 Dimm 1 320-8330 15.6 inch Wide Screen 16:9 1080p Full HD WLED LCD, W/2.0 MP, XPS 1645 1 421-1010 Dell Webcam Central v1.4 1 421-0188 Facial Recognition 1 320-1208 ATI Mobility RADEON HD 4670 1GB
-
I would just order over the phone and demand demand demand discounts and say "I'll order tomorrow", they really don't like that lol. -
Hey Arjun,
I've only heard nightmare stories coming from HP owners. I'm sure they have some great systems and I'm sure Dell has just as many issues, but I've always heard to stay away from HP. That being said, if I was you... I would call my sales rep (or any sales rep if you don't have one) and explain the situation. Explain that everyone you've spoken to at dell has misled you and that you now know that there is a problem with a part being delayed. Talk about how it's been dishonest and that you're ready to stay a loyal dell customer but only if they do something for you ie. give you a similar configuration at the same / lower price and only on a system where ALL the parts are available.
It seems to me like the problem with your order is the i5-540. I've heard the 520 is almost exactly the same and I know for a fact they have it in stock. As well, as much as people say the RGBLED is breathtaking... which it is (I've seen it in person).... the difference between that and the WLED is not substantial enough to justify the $200 difference in my opinion (I do lot's of graphic design and video editing too btw)... plus it kills the battery quick, apparently causes throttling issues and has trouble adjusting your reds apparently. Perhaps downgrade your specs and beef up your RAM or something like that.
Either way, I'm really curious to know how things work out, keep us in the loop!
p.s. still not tracking number LOL (only been 4 hours and I know better than to expect it too !!). Here's how it works. When it leaves the Dell "factory" it's scanned out and marked as "Shipped" however it still has to reach the shipment carriers warehouse for delivery. It's when they scan it in that you'll get your tracking number. -
Vote on my XPS vs HP and lets end this debate lol lol
-
-
Let me try calling them again tomorrow and see what offer or updates i get.
Will post updates here.
thanks! -
-
Hey innovated.... haha... dude... totally! Tomorrow you and I are going to be checking our statuses every 5 minutes for sure! Friendly bet, first one to confirm that they actually got a tracking number get's a +1 rep point from the other, you in?
-
p.s. I just checked again (and I FULLY know that the shipping department is closed right now and it's physically impossible to get a tracking number before tomorrow early morning lol) .... still no tracking number
-
your local depot, it will then get delivered. -
Btw, when did you order your sxps? -
Hey Innovated, wicked! So it's on
I ordered mine on January 26th believe it or not actually! I'm really pleased with the speed of delivery (especially since I've been hearing crazy 3 weeks to one month delivery stories!!).
From my experience as well as a few around me, from the time your status says "Shipped" .... with standard shipping you should be holding your PC within three business days usually two. It may be different in the states however, but that's how it has been here in Canada. -
Really good insight XD
I ordered mine last friday lol -
-
How did you find the order, did you enter the order number in or did you enter the purchase id
XD -
This Is Not Fairrrrrrrrrrrrrr
-
Holy... cow.... lol.... I just decided to do a final call on the dell website to see if I had a tracking number... irrationally may I add and:
TRACKING DETAILS
PIN [bla bla]
Status In Transit in U.S.
Date/Time FEBRUARY 1, 2010 AT 23:36
Depot U.S.A. GROUND LINEHAUL
I don't understand how it's possible but I'm DEFINITELY not complaining!! SSSICK!!I'm in absolute disbelief!! From "In Production" this morning... to "Shipped" with a tracking number all within an 8 hour period... crazy!!
-
I could go to sleep now without being tempted to wake up every hour to check the status lol !!
-
-
That's one way to do it, another way is to create a dell.com login... then associate your order to your account by clicking on "find missing orders" or something like that. Either way will work.
I'm in serious shock at how fast this order has been processed and shipped... I was really expecting the worst! Looks like the bets off since it happened tonight but I'm still sending a rep point your way lol !! -
p.s. in order status, if you click on your order number, you'll be brought to a page with your system specs... on the top right you'll see "shipping information" your shipping method, date and tracking number should show in there. Your tracking number will be clickable and open the purolator site in a new window with your tracking information.
Good luck! Goodnight! -
Darn. My throttling idea for this laptop was wrong. I still have more to investigate, but my initial theory was dead wrong.
Whoever it was that found the laptop to throttle, PM me.
