@atlstang: well thats not worse than I used to have to do for Soldier of Fortune. I did some hunting and came across FRAPS as well. I'll give it a try on power, on battery with throttlestop running and put the results up here later tonight.
-
-
Maybe the i5's only throttle through that throttle program. I mean if it doesn't do it when playing games then I wouldn't sweat it. Maybe someone can download the Crysis demo and try it out.
-
I am NOT funny! Ok I am mildly amusing. And people do tend to point and giggle behind their hands. Ok maybe I am funny. Possibly.
-
Very good point!
-
I hope to god it doesnt show the huge near 50% difference i had as shown in those pictures. To those playing it off as not a problem, until ya know those kind of results i would hold off on that. If thats the case, sure it may be playable with reduced performance but i think its not a lot of people payed for, especially for the 1645. Other laptops do just fine with no hint of slowing anything down :-/
Really more tests are needed and to see exactly whats going on and why, as theres a reason death and storm testing is different.
Edit: Throttlestop program is the only thing that can accuratly monitor throttling. Its just reading the information from the processor nothing more. my envy shows everything 100% no hints at slowing down all. -
Thanks but perhaps the throttle stop program is pushing the cpu a little too far if that makes sense. Playing games might not even do that. Saying it throttles only on the throttle program isn't saying much. Does it throttle when it matters like playing a high demanding game? Hopefully someone with the RGBLED screen can verify if it throttles when playing Crysis?
I will as soon as I get mine sometime next week hopefully
fingers crossed
-
I just don't know because there are many videos on you tube of people playing games perfectly fine on their laptops even crysis.
-
I saw one on youtube where he is playing Crysis on his 1645 and it throttles bad when plugged into the ac. Hopefully that won't be the problem on the 1647? Well we can hope.
-
Hey guys! Well... after 90 pages of this thread ... talking about shipping dates ... getting stressed about shipping dates etc... I got the call today! I'm getting my machine tomorrow!!
LOVING IT !!! -
GRRRRREAT.
Tomorrow we need some
TESTS,TESTS,TESTS
(I imagined Steve Ballmer shouting "developers, developers, developers while I was writing that) That was stupid, nevermind -
I know this is a bit off topic but something I plan on doing is recording game play from the xbox 360 and television with a Hava capcard.Once i get it transferd to my laptop and start editing the videos will this cause my xps 16 to throttle
-
Do you have the RGBLED screen or just WLED?
-
Hahahaha epic win mate! So to answer your question,
No I haven't gotten a tracking number yet, but I did call the order department and talked to a rep, because I went to check out my status yesterday morning and my EDD status was updated from 2/16 to 2/5, she told me that It's ready to be shipped, final stages, the product should be shipped in about 2-3 business days and be in my hands 2-3 days after that...
even if it doesn't come on 2/5 it will come wellllll before 2/16 which is an epic win in my book! -
SWEET !!!! It's about time we start getting out computers lol !!!!
To answer the guy's question above about if I have RGBLED or WLED.... I have the WLED (... thank god lol) !! -
Yes.. I honestly think that considering the situation about throttling and delays, the best choice is WLED.. despite loosing some screen quality, which is not that of a big difference (thats what I heard)
-
Yeah I know what you mean. If by any chance my order gets delayed or whatever and they cancel, then I'd reorder with just the wled. Its just that I have order how amazing the RGBLED screen is and I can't wait to see it. Wish Best Buy had it so I can actually see it lol.
-
I emailed my account specialist which was assigned to me after my whole rgbled/wled screen debate last week. She seems very nice and very knowledgeable. I asked why it says "Order Processing" when I call and here is what she wrote back.
"Dear Matt,
Thank you for your reply. Please be rest assured as I am personally handling your case, and will be in contact with you on a regular basis, until this issue is resolved to your satisfaction Order Processing is just another term which more or less means the same ( In Production ).
Your suggestions and feedback will always encourage me to strive better. Its my endeavor and practice to see you as a happy and a very satisfied customer.
I will either call / email you on Friday February 5th and will keep you updated about the order.
Best regards,
Deepa. "Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -

Dint post emails that companys have sent you, especially if they are personal. Its illegal, and supposidly DELL are watching this forum too! Just a warning.
On another note I bit the bullet and sent my XPS back to day, time to go with sager. the Gforce 285M is out soon which will rival any ATI bar the 5870, but even that is too close to call.
The only reason I didnt ship itback in the first place was because I was lazy and couldnt be bothered setting up the collection. Glad I did it know thanks alt, uncle webb asnd evryone else for your advice. -
What do you mean don't post e-mails? I have seen many other users post e-mails from Dell & HP on this site. How was that a 'personal' e-mail? I thought by posting it that it could clarify the issues some people are experiencing when calling the automated order line. According to her 'order processing' means 'in production'
-
NO FLUFF say it ain't so I was still hanging on because you had yours now I for sure will not be buying the xps.
-
too bad we won't get ours anytime soon. As mentioned back a few pages Dell is out of rgbleds, and they don't know when they will get more. So as all our orders with that screen get put on hold, wled systems move up in line and are getting produced faster.
-
Dude, how can you change your mind so fast :S?
fluff has the quad core i7, which consume more power. The i5/i7 dual core with wled screen will not have very considerable throttling issues, thats my guess but I may be wrong.
But if you have any special notebook on your mind at a similar price I would say go for it.. -
Check @ 3:35 it has been shipped WOOT should be here by Saturday...benchmarks up by monday
-
I don't about that. Several reps confirmed none of the parts on my order are on backorder. Maybe anyone who orders now. You ordered when I did so you should be fine. Did a rep actually tell you that your RGBLED screen is on backorder? I don't think they ran out of RGBLED screens either. Go configure a new core i5 1647 system, the RGBLED is still an option, only delaying it one day. If they completely ran out they would take that option off their site like with the Blurays.
-
I was just kidding I'm still waiting for my sales rep to get back with me about honoring a offer he made last week.
-
Hopefully you're right... It's just mine has been in pre production for almost a week now..
-
Good for you Texanman! Mine is still in Pre-Production Arghhh!
How is being shipped? If it's UPS you won't see it until Monday as they do not work on Saturday, FedEx does though. Just some FYI in case you did not know.
Good lick with it... Damn, I'm Jealous -
Look on the bright side Josh, yours is one week, mine is 19 days (so far) and counting.
-
No shipping info yet but ya I know about who ships it. I bought the faster 3 dy shipping cuz ....1 I am worth it and 2... my parents are paying for half the laptop because it was a gradation present....
Sorry for my bad grammer I'm on my g1 -

What have you gone with Texanman ?
-
well I actually originally ordered on the 17th, then on the 26th I called and was told that parts were out of stock, etc. I then re ordered... Here we are again
-
Sorry you have such a bad phone and network... -
When you call them up... did they tell you that there are parts on delay for your order? I know Dell is not always fair, for example you order and a part goes on delay then the next guy orders and none of the same parts are on delay.
-
It was all about the Bluetooth module. They were "having problems" and my order would never leave pre production because of them not being able to supply the part.
If I would of waited the order would auto cancel after a period of time. -
Yes... i spoke to multiple reps. all confirmed its due to the RGBLED. Talking to the cutomer care or order support wont help. You have to ask them to transfer your call to order modification department. .. They will know whats in stock and whats not.
About the dell website... its total crap. they take orders....based on estimated arrival dates of parts.. i guess. -
FYI for those who wish to do this.
Rather than go through the transfer crap from Dell cutomer care or order support you can call stright through to the Order Modification Department at 1-800-247-2076 . Might save some time and hassle. -
first of all lolz ur a joke.....

Thanks mate sorry didnt see you sig, looks good.
-
I've been cheeky... just ordered the 1647, tomorrow all prices are going to change, also the discounts might go op... might be cheaper ^^
If so, I'll only pay the latter rather then the former... hihi (6) -
PADRE: What are you options as they stand ? what spec and price.
-
how do you know that ? -
Dell always puts their promotions up on thrusdays. dont know why I think thats the end of their buisiness week.
-
Do tell, who else on the 1647 has reported throttling?
-
ATM I stand with a Core i5-540 | 1080p RGB-Led | 6GB RAM | 500GB HDD(really need the space
) | Bluetooth | Intel 6200 2x2 | 9cell | ah yeah, took the black one... couldn't pick a colour *boring* | 1 year warrenty (gonna buy more later
) | pfff, what else... the whole package
Free shipping (and I get the tax back becuz of my business ^^) for a total grand €1.295,58
No idea though if they ship it with the HM55 over here or not, probably not as normally you guys get the news 1 week before we do in europe
-
Looks like a dam good deal mate !
Black is the best dont worry about being boring. Hahaa you wana employ me so I can get a discount lol
. And the 6GB RAM will come in handy.
-
aye... but still, I'm wondering about that 5xxx... won't need it, cuz I can game on the desktop, but still... I mean, rendering and CS4 use GPU's these days...
On the other hand, the 4670 is mighty as is...
And yeah, definitly the black. I would regret getting red jusft after paying and white... I wasn't sure... I like to stand out, not have what everybody else has... (not on the forum, but you know
)
And about the job application, I'm affraid I have to let you down, cuz I run a one man business ^^
Apparently they ship 15 months mcaffee... I don't want that, costs money and I have symantec... no fair! -
Hey that looks like a good set up, if i can say something i'll say get the WLED since you wont be having to hassle with your order like some people on these forums (it sucks i know) and because WLED is lighter on the energy consumption, makes for less throttling issues.
My set up in my sig, im going to be using it for art school, (Photoshop/After Effects/ Aptana (developing software)/ illustrator)
Serves my purpose well but then again I was doing all of that on my old system (which died finally after 6 years)
OLD SYSTEM:
AMD 64 3000+ 754pin
1GB DDR2 Ram
Gigabyte nforce motherboard
600W PSU -
sure sucks. And they don't know when the screens are coming in?
