**The Official Studio XPS 1647 Intel Core i5/i7 "Owners' Lounge"**

Feedback I had on my outstanding XPS (with the RGBLED screen) is that they have been pulled from production pending an OEM review due to quality issues. Given the number of folks on the 1645 side that had dead pixels or other weird things like colors being really red etc this isn't all that surprising.

I am glad I got one and I can tell you that the quality of the picture is 100% comparable to my big screen at home and absolutely head and shoulders above any other laptop screen I've laid eyes on and that includes the screens on the Envy (now that I've had a good look at one).

I've got a two-year warranty too in case I get dead pixels and such. So you have not experienced these issues you mentioned yet with your screen?

 

@FlySwatter - nope not a one. My colors don't look off to me either.

 

Just checked my dell account page, it says "In Production" ! I ordered 1/27/2010

However.. all the of the order status phone numbers seem to not work anymore, they all say "You have reached a non working Dell number"?

Is anyone else getting that?

 

I get that once in a while - redialing again goes through.
On one order status line - i get "order processing"
On the other order status line (3, 2, 1, 1) - i get "In production - Build stage"

On the website - the My account page shows "In Production" , and so does the order details page. (since today morning - might have change sometime late in the night)

I have at least 10 different 800 numbers on my recent calls, and I don't know which one is which lol.

I found it, after calling back a few times it worked, so I guess it's just one of those things that doesn't happen all the time.

1-800-283-2210 (3,2,1,1) says order is "In Production - Build Stage"

 

Dell Studio 17 are now shipping with ATI 5730 DX11 ! So this should mean there will be an even faster version for the XPS 16!

 

Not in the States. All I see is Intel HD graphics as an option.

Yup, they added the 5730 to the Studio 17 here(Netherlands) too, that's kinda cool.

 

Has anyone had luck modifying their order once it is in Production (Build stage) lately (i.e. Upgrading to a BD/DVD/CD drive)?

 

---I don't think they pulled together all RGBLED panels from SXPS 16. Here in US you can still order SXPS with RGBLED panel as long as laptop is not equipped with Intel i7 .

 

I believe the thing is you cannot modify your order once it goes into production, but you can try asking?

 

Someone do me a favor and make sure I'm not loosing my mind, go configure a SXPS 16 with Core i5 and choose RGBLED. Is that right 61 days for a delay???

Yea, that makes me think they won't be getting any more RGBLED screens til then. I really hope they have enough to cover everyone who at least ordered now but my god take the RGBLED screen off if its going to delay it into May.

 

I tried, order modification said no, not even at pre-production (order accepted) either....

I thought I saw someone post they were successful in getting an order modified while in Production...

Maybe you can cancel your order then re-order? If you do I would NOT choose the RGBLED screen. If mine gets delayed again next week I'm re-ordering without the RGBLED screen. Who is gonna wait until May for that?

 

Holy hell. Maybe someone intended to bump it back up to 6 days but left in the 1 making it 61 days...

In any case, I hope our systems being In Production is actually real.

 

Does anyone have the original Dell Aero theme on their 1647? I kinda lost mine during the fresh install. Do we need to install the firmware for the 8x dvd writer or best to leave it 'as is' ?

 

It might be quality concerns on these RGBLED panels and DELL is looking for another supplier other than SAMSUNG. Whatever they have on hand is affected and they are waiting for new RGBLED panels to be produced.

I hope someone from DELL can provide some accurate information.

Hey guys!

After close to a week with my XPS 16, I could safely say .... this is the BEST laptop I have ever owned (and I have owned several high end laptops in my time).

The speed is amazing which should be expected, the build is sturdy.. you feel like you have a quality machine. The features are great, touch media keys (which I've learned to love), backlit keyboard, edge to edge screen (makes it easier to clean lol).

The speakers are awesome and the sound is simply amazing. You should compare the sound out of this to your old laptop or a friends... that's the only way you'll really understand how much better it is. I didn't realize until I put it to the test and it SMASHED the competition (hp envy for those wondering).

I've got the 1080p WLED screen and it's awesome. I'm really happy I stayed away from the RGBLED because from what I've heard, it's issue loaded. Mind you, it's gorgeous.... but lot's of issues and I've actually compared side by side wled vs. rgbled and I could honestly tell you that the difference is NOT worth the price or wait. The WLED screen is vivid with sharp colors. You won't feel like you're missing anything (I'm a graphic designer / web developer... so trust me on this).

All in all, great PC, I'm very happy with the purchase and hopefully all of you that have your machines feel the same!

Also, does anybody know what the bios update A3 did? lol, thanks!

I guess the orders that just got started with the RGBLED were the last of the new shipment maybe?

 

Hopefully, but its going to work like this, if someone with the RGBLED screen gets their order shipped out next week then hopefully the rest of our systems will go out. If they start delaying them until the following week well I think its time to cancel and re order without the RGBLED screen. I really do hope they have their s together.

 

If only they'd let us keep the Signature level pricing...

Well I originally ordered on the signature, but re order on the 27th. My order went into the actual build stage today.

 

No Bull.... I just got bumped back.... again to EDD 2/24

Oh if only I could find another 1647 with the 620m, I'd order it without the RGB, buy it, and return the last one that makes it to my door back to Dell. This is getting old now.

 

Well seeing as how your order just went into production and accounting for the 5 day shipping period the 17th was not a possibility.

 

At least its in production. If it weren't, I might find a creative way to let you order a 620m. Its amazing how many important direct-lines you can get by calling Dell repeatedly and demanding to speak to supervisors of supervisors.

 

I wonder what the results in europe are... I have an EDD of a little under a month, so basically if I'm lukcy I'll get in within 3 weeks (usually I always recieve a week in advance)

The only thing I noticed is that I get higher frame rates in Crysis now but I don't know if thats the new BIOS or the updated video driver since I installed both at the same time.

 

Let's say it's both... it's still an improvement ^^

 

I was pushed back a week as well to 2/19. I'll give them this one because I know it was impossible to get it by the original EDD of today! I just hope they won't keep us in production for weeks just to tease us.

Well.... when I checked at 5:00am it wasn't there. Must have been site maintenance.. Well i was hoping to see a new refreshed model.

just got a quote from Dell UK with the bluray reader/writer waiting for another quote with blueray and RGBLED see what that baby will come out at

 

Does it include the 61 day delay too?
