Hey everyone, don't want to make a new thread about this, so here's hoping someone will be able to help me in here.

I bought a beautiful M1530 back in March and I LOVE it. I want to upgrade the screen to 1440x900 as I need more screen real estate and I need I'd love to upgrade the CPU to a T8300-T9300. Problem is the CPU's in store are crazy expensive, and I can't seem to find replacement screens on ebay & such. Does Dell offer and sort of upgrade program? If so is it cheaper than retail?

    I'd appreciate some help.

    Thanks,

    Hey there,
    Here you go:

To find out which LCD panel is installed in your M1530 do the following:

In Device Manager expand Monitors and double-click on Generic PnP Monitor. Click on the Details Tab and change the Property box to Hardware Ids.

(This info was located on the very first page of this awesome *stickied* thread)... ;) :D

And, once you find the name of it, go to #1 on Page 1...within this thread, and you will be able to find out what brand you have ;) :)

    Hope that helps!

    Cin ;) :)

    Hi Cin, :)

Good idea. :) The issue I can see with this is getting quality pictures that are meaningfull. There's lots of picture of the M1530 screen out there but when put side by side they don't really give a good feel for the difference in resolution. This would work if someone had access to multiple M1530 with different resolutions and could take pictures using a standard set of parameters.

Until we have such pictures I can post links to the wiki charts on screen resolutions.

Well, thats a little over a week away...and with the ESD you could very well get it sooner ;) :)

With the accessories you may or may not get them....I hate to say this, but it looks like most peep's as of late haven't been getting them :(

But, some peep's have been receiving them...Maybe, not all of the accessories..but a few items ;) :)

At the beginning of this thread ~Rhodan's fantastic thread~ under question number 18..it talks about the accessories for the 1530

Here: (I made it easy for yah) ;)

and then, check the link he imbedded to this thread:
The Dell XPS Accessories thread contains some good information on what to expect if you are missing accessories:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=276220

My *fingers are crossed* that you do receive some, or even better all of the accessories ;) But, better that you get your new lappy...and it's what you expected that is the most important!

Cin, I finally got it yesturday :)
There were no accessories other than the remote and also i have noticed that there is some exta HD noise.........too much clicking under normal web surfing...... other than that it is a beauty. Cin as you also have a red one can you tell me that were there any Product Red wallpapers or themes with your one?

    My Specs are:
    M1530 Product Red
Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 processor (2.4 Ghz, 3mb Cache)
    Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit
4 GB Dual Channel Ram at 667 Mhz
250 GB HD 7200rpm with free fall sensor (Samsung according to the packing list)
LCD 1440*900 WXA with True life
    Nvidia 8600mgt with 256mb DM
    Intel Wireless-N
    Bluetooth
    3-yrs onsite warranty

One more thing in my packing list it says that my LCD is Lg Philips but in the device manager it is AO207 which is Optronics...........any comments?

Hey there! Oh such Congratulations to you on your new lappy! ;) :) I'm really glad you are liking it thus far:

For the screen here is the info copied from page one of this ~ Rhodan's awesome thread:

    1440x900 - WXGA+ (250 nits)
    AU Optronics AUO2077 - Dell P/N: GU429
    AU Optronics AOU2077 - Dell P/N: XX726

    LG Philips LPLDF00 - Dell P/N: XP059
    LG Philips LPLDF00 - Dell P/N: KR515

And to also verify your config directly from Dell, you can go here:
    http://support.dell.com/support/top.../details?~ck=ln&~tab=2&c=us&l=en&lnki=0&s=gen

Enter your Service tag number (located on the bottom of your lappy)..and that will also tell you what your screen info is ;) :)

    http://support.dell.com/support/top...C3D1CF759B697AE040A68F5A280F43&doclang=en&cs=

Here is another helpful linky I found on the wallpapers:

Scroll down to the last wallpaper shown, *red texture* and the download is right there (below pic)..and also.. below that is further info on how to get the gadgets, etc ;) :)

Oh yeah... I have been wondering too, and I think u asked about this in the previous post too, didn't you? (or was it someone else?) Anyway... Guess we need to wait to see if any clarifications are coming around regarding these minor technical issues... lets see... or else just call Dell and ask them... they'll be able to tell you.

Btw, congrats on ur laptop. Enjoy it.

    Meanwhile,

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/joinred/windows.aspx

    http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/1c5d1bda-b88f-473b-9fe9-8fe0970927e91033.mspx

I guess the windows vista product red thing comes only with the ultimate (windows vista ultimate product red) and not the home premium version (at least thats what I understood from reading around, not sure though)... but you must be able to get in the wallpapers n themes and customizations in some way... As in, u could probably download them and customize as you want.. the dell drivers n downloads section has some product red downloads, if I remember well.... I don't have the product red.. may be some other user who knows about the tech details of product red can clarify it for us, better..

Good luck and enjoy your system. Cheers.

Does your lappy have the (Product) RED stenciled/etched on the left hand side of the palm rest? If so, then you should have the Red extras already installed on your notebook. Unless you did a reformat. In either case you can still get the stuff via the Driver Downloads page specific to the M1530, under the System Utilities section.

    http://support.dell.com/support/dow...ystemID=XPS_M1530&os=WLH&osl=en&catid=&impid=

It's just a bunch of wallpapers, widgets, and an annoying Product Red ad whenever IE is launched (can be disabled).

hi, i'm thinking of ordering my xps 1530 tonight, just wondering-how long are the delivery times to the UK (london), also- has anyone had any experience dual booting vista (or xp) with any linux/ubuntu os? are there any problems with the drivers etc?
also, do you think it would be worth waiting until the beginning of next month to see if there are any offers up for the xps? :p

Ive just recieved my m1530 today in the UK it came 6 days early from their estimated delivery time which was 30th of this month, ordered a just over a week ago too.

Check the coupons page on this site for uk ones, its a shame they just stopped their 7days of deal's i got over £200 off my xps another reason im so happy :)

Fonduekids link is great i just used that to dual boot vista / xp and its working perfectly.

Starbucks is annoying as the only Wi-Fi hotspot they offer in the UK is T-Mobile :( lol, no o2 hardly anywhere lol.

M1530 is a sweet laptop. The only problem I got is the heat problem. The fan won't run until my gpu get up to 70 oC it make the whole lap hot! and there are no fan control software for XPS1530 I think...

Not sure at the moment, sent the order number to my Dell account manager, he said he would add 3 years warranty and some other bits free of charge once I had decided what to go for...we buy a fair bit of Dell hardware for work so I asked him to help me out once I had ordered! :)

Hoping it will be here this week, that's a big hope though

Can someone recommend me the best place for Vista 64bit drivers for the XPS? I take it most are on the Dell website but as I'd like to overclock my 8600GT when I get it I may need rivatuner and other bits??

AFAIK, most 64bit drivers are out here.. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=255232 but do look around for any latest info.. and feel free to ask for anything specific :)

For overclocking, yes.. for more, look here >
