    :) Looks like they're trying to get people to not match up the part number so they don't blatently decide to return it due to being the samsung model thats talked about in many many forums.

    i'm sure there may be another reason, but thats what my conspiracy theory mind is telling me.

    My theory is that it is plain statistics. Maybe Samsung promised them, that the next batches of Samsung screens will have a better quality and that is Dells way to run statistics on that 'promise'.

    I'll say this...I haven't seen the Samsung screens that caused all of the uproar, but the one I received last week (WSXGA+) looks fine...actually, really good. I approached it expecting it to be terrible and looked for reasons to hate it, but what can I tell you? Maybe they really are a better batch of Samsungs.

    I got 2 Samsung screens back in mid May and they were both really horrible. I finally got a unit with a WXGA+ LED and the screen is amazingly beautiful. I saw my friend's LG screen and it too was amazing. The Samsung is still dim, shadowy, and looks as if someone smudged their thumb all over the screen.

    I had an Acer Travelmate 8202 and it had a Samsung 1680 x 1050 screen that was terribly grainy. I got it replaced after much hassle just to find out the new one was grainy as well. I reckoned if I ordered a lower resolution for my new Dell XPS M1530 I wouldn't have problems and so far the screen is looking great, it's an LG by the way, and I only miss the real state a bit.

    As a sidenote I had to apply the uneven base tip on the first post of the thread and it worked great. Thanks!

    Glad that worked for you. I did this on my first M1530 to make the base even.

    Just got my XPS 1530 a week ago, and have the hard disk sound problem. I think you should include this problem too. See this thread or this resolved thread.

    At the the bottom of question #1:

    ++++++++++++++
    To find out which LCD panel is installed in your M1530 do the following:

    In Device Manager expand Monitors and double-click on Generic PnP Monitor. Click on the Details Tab and change the Property box to Hardware Ids.

    ++++++++++++++

    Then match your hardware ID with what's listed in Question #1

    I just had to return my 1530 due to a grainy screen. The model number was W656G (Samsung V2). I didn't see that model in the list by the OP but it might just be an updated P/N. Anyway I'm debating whether or not to order another one and hope for a good screen or just get a Sony or HP. It's a real pain to receive and return items as I am living on a college campus and Dell won't deal with PO boxes. Seems like Dell has serious quality control issues. Too bad since the 1530 is an otherwise decent machine.

    Sorry, the Device Manager would not display the Hardware ID. I had to enter my service tag on the website to view the system config. All it says is:
    W656G - LCD,15.4WXGA,TLF,SMSNG,V2

    As this is not so much a technical issue I'm not sure if this is actually appropriate for this thread. However the issue of the m1530's not shipping with the XPS accesory kit (sleeve, ear buds, cd case, cleaning cloth etc) and the threads containing advice on how to get them are pretty numerous. perhaps if they were mentioned in this sticky there won't be so many popping up anymore.

    another common m1530 topic is the ever so popular Nvidia GPU issue and what to do/has been done about it. Perhaps you could link to the dell official blog and dell's response to this problem as well as the NBR thread that polled the drivers that people are using. keep up the good work.

    Also the faulty nVidia issue is not specific to the M1530... there are a truck load of laptop models supposed to be affected with this faulty die packaging material..

    *thought I'll make this a bit clear just in case the newbies end up thinking the M1530 is coming with faulty cards* though the link' should clear it up... Anyways..

    Hi there Rhodan ;) :) :cool:

    What do you think about adding *thumbnail* pics of the screen res. options available on the 1530 together?

    I just thought maybe a good idea, since you see lots of posts from fellow peep's asking about the resolution, & size info/difference on the screens! ;) :)

    Also, that way if they are each *lined up*, peep's can see the difference in each one, and the *thumbnail* pics wouldn't take up much room, either! (They could just *click* on to expand) ;)

    Just a thought...from me! :eek: :D ;)

    A quick question about the m1530 screen, i know you guys are mostly in the states but looking at www.dell.co.uk there doesnt seem to be an option to upgrade the lcd to led for the m1530 which really sucks and means europe are yet again getting the raw deal.

    Just says 15.4" Widescreen WUXGA (1920x1200) TFT Display with TrueLife™ / 15.4" Widescreen WXGA+ (1440x900) TFT Display with TrueLife™ as the best options to choose. Am i wrong on this?

    I really wanted to get the led for additional battery usage and a better
    screen no doubt.

    Many thanks in advance
    Vanna
