There's now a 64-bit Dell Touchpad driver on the US site. It's R186621

Great thread. I just got through updating my 1530 to 64 bit. Everything (except for audigy) works great without a hitch.

For those with soundblaster issues --->

Search for ' soundblaster vista daniel K' and you will find links to torrents with modified soundblaster audigy driver files including all the software, that work in vista x64.

The main setup did not work for me, so I followed some common advice and used an extractor program to extract the .exe -- Next go into the drivers folder then support - and double clicked the .exe in there, which only installs the drivers and not the accompanying software. (Personally I only wanted the drivers anyway as I am just going to use srs to do the eq stuff... but i've read you can install all the software in the same way.)

    ---------
As an aside, for anyone with a similar problem, I found this in attempt to solve the glitchy/skipping audio playback problems so many people have had. The fix was either this, updating my nvida drivers or possibly updating my wireless intel n card. All 3 things were reported as solutions on a few forums and I am not sure which ultimately worked. (turning off enhancements, which i did first, did not work at all)

I presume this is for a hardware audigy sound card, and not the Audigy Software Enhancement. Has anyone found a workaround for the software, in Vista x64?

Does that mean you used the "USB Install" method?

I'm a little confused by all the different stuff about how to instal with AHCI/ATA and why to use which one.

It was for both the actual hardware drivers and all the accompanying software enhancements (all compatible w/ x64 vista).

Like I said, I personally did not install the software portion (I wasn't sure if it would conflict with SRS) so I cannot vouch for them personally, but everywhere I looked people said they worked perfectly. If you give it a shot, let us know.

The IR remote works in Vista x64, without any additional drivers. The IR port shows up as "HID-compliant Consumer Control Device", under "Human Interface Devices", in device manager.

Does anyone know if the Xbox 360 wired USB controller for Windows, works with Vista x64, on the XPS M1330? What about the 'non-windows' normal Xbox wired controller? I understand that the drivers are the same. But has anyone had it work on Vista x64? I am thinking of getting one, hence want to find out.. Thanks!

It's similar to what OS X uses on the bottom of the screen and it's rather old tech now. It's still probably better except on machines that are VNC servers. That update is under x64 download page so it should be compatible.

The fingerprint scanner is now a deadlink so we'll have to find yet another download location.

Hi, thanks for the answer. I am not familar with the Mac software so could someone explain exactly what dock does? I don't want to clutter up my computer and install it unless I know it might be useful to me. Also, I have been trying to look into temperature monitoring programs and have found that Notebook Hardware Control, RM Clock and I8Kfan are not able to install. I think the problem is 64 bit Vista, can anyone confirm/have any solutions? Also, does anyone know of 64 bit drivers for the external usb modem that Dell uses? TIA :D

Is it possible to emulate mouse middle button using left + right buttons in the synaptics driver. I couldn't find this option in the drivers. I know its possible in the Dell drivers, but Dell drivers do not have tap zones which I use. Maybe there's a registry hack?

    Thanks

Just FYI this isn't a 64-bit problem because I had the same problem on my laptop (32-bit). I was unsuccessful in figuring out a way to emulate the middle mouse button by pressing the left+right buttons using the synaptics driver (a feature I used ALL the time), so I reverted back to the Dell driver.

Perhaps there is some third party software that can map tap zones?

got the new AHCI drivers from Intel site, extracted and saved to my thumb drive, but when i go to install x64, at load drivers page, theres a popup warning me about unsigned 64bit drivers.... when i continued, i dont see anything in the pick-the-partitions page(that is no hard drive is listed)... i went to check my BIOS, its set 2 AHCI....

EDIT: did the long way :(set to ata, install vista x64, boot into vista, did regedit, reboot, set to ahci, go into vista, install AHCI drivers, reboot, all set.....)

but anything that would be different doing the long way vs flash drive way?....

EDIT: wanted to do ubuntu.... but i guess i messed up somewhere..... redoing the whole thing :(

I have an XPS M1530 and I have been lurking here and reading and doing a lot of info grabbing. Now i got everything on my M1530 working. Except the display drivers I have installed about thirty different drivers from LV2G. But dammit every driver that i install gives me BSOD i install the standard windows VGA adapter it works. Just my aero and dream scene doesn't work because my display driver is not correct. I have an 256MB 8600M GT. This is getting really frustrating. Also how do i get my touchpad to scroll left and right like it used to do in vista ultimate 32. I am almost fed up...

If I had a m1530, I could help you more, but off of a guess:

Touchpad: you'll have to go into the mouse properties and into the touchpad specific properties within that and you'll find a ton of settings to include scroll. You can set it up there.

As for the LV2G, make sure you're using the installer and the modded .inf file. Don't force the drivers to install through the device manager. You probably already knew this so my only other suggestion is to check dell's site for at least one 64 bit video driver and then search for the 1530 64-bit forum.

Hi, needing some advice about 8400 video card 64 bit drivers. Given the recent issue around heat and this video card, I wish to know which video card driver keeps the card the coolest? Also, there has also been an issue whereby the 156.69 driver causes an incorrect temperature reading; does anybody know of other drivers that have that problem? I know I have to go the laptopdrivers2go (can't remember the exact name right now) to get the drivers; I don't suppose anyone knows why Dell does not have 64 bit drivers for this card up on it's site? Anyway, tia :D

You're going to get a different reply from everyone. I personally love the 174.16 driver. They may not be the newest, but the temps are excellent, and they're the only ones that retain 3D mode on battery (while retaining Powermizer) for me.

Is the Intel matrix storage manager driver the same as the AHCI driver ?
Or are they two seperate files ? I have copied the expanded folders from the iata_enu.exe file to a usb drive. Should I copy any other files ?
Can someone plssss tell me. I don't want to brick my laptop and start all over again.

Guys, any idea how to get vista x64 media in India. MS india is not helpful, and I have been trying unsuccessfully to contact dell for the past two weeks. I have called over 50 times, and each time the IVR picks it up and I am put on hold. I have been on hold for more than 2 hours sometimes.
I sent an email to dell on 20th july, and escalated it on 25th july. I have not received even a single reply.
    I am from India btw
Is this the kind of service you guys in US also get ?
Can some kind soul pls tell me where I can download the x64 vista dvd ?
Can someone in the know pls give me the email/phone number of someone higher up in dell so I can lodge a complaint.
Buying a dell has to be the worst purchase of my life. First the copper mod, and now this.

I read your guide ( and thanks a lot btw :) and was under the impression that the usb method was the easier method to use. I will try with the usb disk first, and in case of any error, I will just install it again and follow the ATA method.

In case you have any pointers pls keep me posted

Quick question : One of my friends just confirmed that he can get me a MSDN vista disk. However, I am not licensed for MSDN access. Can I install home premium x64 using that and use my key for activation ?
Is the MSDN disk the same as all other Vista disks ?

Thanks a lot in advance :)

Yeah.. The MSDN disk is the regular install DVD.. I have a MSDN subscription...
If you are using your own(licensed) key to install vista x64, then there are no legal issues. Most people here seem to be able to install x64 with the key underneath the laptop.. It didn't work for me, though...

The Vista 32-bit key under my laptop worked on my Vista 64-bit disc. However, I am using a genuine OEM 64-bit Home Premium disc - I have no idea if there are differences.

    Guys, I got the disc
I keep getting error code 0x800706f8. I have tried installing 5 times. I even burned copies of the disc and tried with the copies. The disc reads fine in every system. Using nero cdspeed and doing a scandisk I get no errors. I copied the whole disc to a system in around 10 minutes, so the disc is not physically damaged.
I googled the error and MS says it is due to a samsung drive. I have a 1330, so it I don't have a samsung drive. I tried the flat installation method mentioned by ms but it doesn't work. When I run setup.exe it says it is not for this version of windows ( it requires x64 windows to be running lol )
So, how do I install x64 on my m1330 ?
    Any suggestions ?
If anyone is willing to post me a 64 bit installation disk I will be very greatful

    TIA

The comp boots off the disc perfectly fine. Setup starts, but when it is expanding files then it just displays this error after some time.
The DVD drive is a LG-Hitachi
I am at a loss for words right now. Gonna stick with x86 for another year and give x64 some time to iron out all the bugs

Well, my 2 month M1330 now has a dead hard drive, started clicking about a week ago. Was my first Samsung drive, and with that probably my last.

But, on a positive note, I ordered a 7200rpm/16mb/320GB drive to replace it.

Still have 3 years minus 2 months left on my warranty, so has anybody been able to get Dell to replace a hard disk without sending in the entire laptop? HP let me remove and send them my CD-RW drive on my old R3000z back in the day, which was a bit more extreme then removing a hard disk.
