I seem to be missing this, but how in the world do you increase the keyboard sensitivity? I can't seem to find any settings related to it, but I keep hearing you guys say once you increase it, it is more responsive!

It confused me at first as well as there doesn't seem to be a way to access the settings through the windows interface. The only way is using the keyboard itself - it is the F10 function key.

Thanks for the response, is there supposed to be any indication of how high or low it is? When I press that button I get no feedback or response that I can see...

You should get a settings window pop up on the screen. Try using the function key, i.e. "Fn" + "F10".

Hi, do you have some news about the stylus?
It seems Dell sells a revised model (rev A01) of the active stylus.
But I can't find a new firmware for the digitizer (which exists for the Dell Venue Pro 11: same synaptics digitizer, as firmware and not as driver).
Which version of the stylus do you use?
Did you download a new software for the digitizer and when?
Some improvements in the stylus use?
(legal owner of a XPS 11, but not yet received!)

Heard back in the early hours this morning! (about 3 hours after you posted).

Dell have pushed it through to an internal team for further investigation. After weeks of waiting for them to get around to it and finally test, their stance is that the XPS 11 is NOT supported for any Dell active stylus currently on sale. No surprises here.

The below is my findings, not any explanation I have received from Dell:
I have tried multiple A01 revision pens and all acted the same; no response.
My findings are that all the correct windows drivers are there, but either there is no proper low level digitiser hardware to support the stylus, or the firmware has not been developed for the stylus to work.

Technically this is the same synaptics digitiser in use as the venue 8 & 11 pro, but that is not to say the hardware does not differ in some way. The size of the digitiser and the screen resolution is very different, especially when you think about the accuracy of a digitizer on HiDPI screen, it might have been turned off for a reason.

A very sad result. I may just hold onto my A01 stylus though in case by some virtue in future they manage to figure out how to use the hardware to enable stylus support.
I have been using Dell products for years and always found the quality and build of their business orientated devices second to none. The XPS certainly displays a lot of its heritage, but seems somewhat constrained to get it on sale before perfecting it.

TL/DR: Does not work, and Dell says it won't work either.

Anybody else having Bluetooth Audio streaming issues? When using my paired Logitech H800 headset, audio playback keeps stuttering. Doesn't matter what the source is, movie, music, etc. The headset works fine with other Window 8.1 notebooks, android tablets, phones, etc. Using the included Logitech RF receiver also works with the XPS 11.

The system is running Win 8.1 Pro and tried both Dell provided and Intel BT drivers. Full uninstall each time, manually deleting the driver from device manager. Tried a bunch of other stuff too with power management settings, re-installing chipset, audio, drivers, etc. Heck, I even swapped out the Intel 7260 card. No changes. Any ideas?

I'm using a Parrot Zik (driver 1.10 for the headset) with the driver MS 6.2.9600.16523 (auto install). It works perfect. Other audio headset works or not?

Thank you for your feedback. I receive confirmation from Dell (suptech Montpellier, France) they are working on the digitizer firmware. They don't know if it will be ready in one week, one month or two, but it's on track. I'm impatient!

I have the core i3/80GB version. It was a bit narrow (23GB for user, minus the 10¨% to keep free in order to have a smooth behavior: 15GB).
A fresh install with a W8Pro version (restauration partition wiped) and there is now about 52GB free, 44GB effective, about three times more!
    It's much more comfortable.

But this new install has no effect on the ram use: always about 1,3-1,4GB with just the system and about 80 process: with a Toshiba under Windows 8.1, no more than 56 process: tactile UI is guilty?

It's really the only stereo headset I have laying around. Haven't had a chance to try more stuff, but I might try a normal BT ear-piece I use with my phone, see what happens. Perhaps it just really doesn't like Logitech, although I suspect there is something else going on.

Hi, you're not the only one who knows this problem.
It doesn't seem Logitech updates the driver since 2011!
It is in the W8 compatibility list of Logitech.
Check with the model number (two references).
You perhaps should contact the techsup?
I don't know if it will help!

Thanks for the info. I already checked their site, and the H800 is listed as win8 compatible. I mean, it works with my other Win8 systems.

I've contacted Logitech in the past. They just say they'll research it, never to be heard from again.

    Oh well.

Did you try to reset the H800: if it has been paired with more than 7 devices, it could have problem of memory?

I just wanted to provide an update regarding the Bluetooth issue I was having. It's fixed! I later noticed the bluetooth issue wasn't limited to the headset. Even BT mice would stutter and have issues. The only thing I could think of was the antenna, which is in the LCD assembly. I talked Dell into sending it (even though they offered an exchange), and that did the trick. Must have been a pinched or damaged wire in there or somewhere. Don't think I've seen that one before, but obviously it's quite possible.

Either way, I'm good to go. This little guy has really grown on me as a "light productivity / tablet / travel media consumption" device. Took it on a recent trip for several days and it rocked. Solid battery life, excellent screen, lots of storage, and can certainly do a heck of a lot more than most tablets (also costs more, of course). I won't be typing any books on the keyboard, but for light to moderate typing, I've gotten used to it... mostly. :)

If so, could you share your stylus driver (XPS 11) with me.

Please send the driver to [email protected].

Just another XPS11 owner joining the thread. I'm in the process of going back through it reading about the device, which so far has been pretty awesome. I am a little confused about all the uh, confusion with regard to the whole stylus thing. Dell reps saying it *is* supported, saying it *isn't* supported... It is in some marketing information (current from Dell) but not in others. I'm also wondering what makes the machines different in that they do or do not support the pen. Clearly people have had mixed results from all of the accounts I've seen, some it works some it doesn't. If you hold the display at an angle to the light, you can definitely see the embedded sensors in the panel, so the hardware is there. I wonder if they (Dell) simply deactivated it, possibly due to all the major issues they have been having with the styli for the Venue tablets?

I know my Venue 8 Pro stylus/touch experience was less than stellar, and downright made the device nearly unusable. But with each revision, they made updates and it has been getting better and better since.

I lost the ability to use touch somehow today and rebooting didn't help. Cold boot/warm boot. System info went to "No Pen or Touch Input is available for this Display". I decided to reflash the A00 bios and it did bring back the touch on the screen, but unfortunately this caused my pen to stop working. My A00 and A02 pens worked until this happened. Anybody have the Synaptics touch firmware that makes the pen work? I don't know if there's a tool to dump it from anybody's working model, but it would be nice.

I noticed on the XPS 11 I just received yesterday, if I look at a white web page at an angle close to 180 degree, the white turns yellowish.
It doesn't happen on the Surface Pro 3 or iPad, their white stays the same at that angle. It seems strange considering the XPS display should be of the same quality.
Have anyone noticed the same on the XPS 11 display? Or is it just a defect on mine?

When I received mine, the stylus wasn't recognized. I had a problem with the hinge sensor (360 was interpreted as 0): the lcd was changed. Since this change, the stylus works, but not in completly satisfactory way.

    1) quite often, when the stylus is hold off the screen, a "false" pointer appears on the top-left of the display. In this case, it's impossible to use the digit or the touchpad. The system "thinks" there is a stylus pointing on the top left.

    2) there is a problem (which has been described on this conversation): the line continue after I hold off the stylus (it seems it's related to the distance between stylus and screen). Conversely, quite often, the line isn't drawn as soon as the stylus touch the screen.

The difference of quality with the passive Wacom stylus of Samsung (galaxy note) is huge: it's noisy (hard plastic), the stylus slips too much (hard plastic vs rubberized tip), added to the two abovementioned problems, the gap will be hard to fill!

PS it seems Dell stopped to sell the xps 11... Bad news for the owners: the software development will probably be stopped.

So dell sent me another XPS 11 because my last one had a dead pixel. After updating everything on this one I have the same issue with the trackpad not turning off when I put it into tablet mode. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am going to email the Tech from Dell that was on my case, but I think that owners may have a better idea of how to fix the issue.

DOH! I guess I messed with the trackpad settings a little too much. A simple reinstallation of the trackpad drivers did it.

Hi - have these now been discontinued ?

I see they are now available for around £350 from Dell for the 128gb sd version and £415 for the 256gb sd version.

They seem quite good at that price - hope support is there if any problems as I have just ordered one.

I think the price drop now makes them good value. Mine was top of the line, but cost over £800 as a refurb. I like everything about the machine except the keyboard, which really is plain bloody awful. But I accept it for what it is and still use it daily in preference to my Precision M6700, which is reserved as a powerhouse for photo editing only.

Has anyone had issues on the screen bending/flexing on these? I saw on for the first time at microcenter and I noticed that the screen was bowing up on the corners where I assume people were holding to fold it up and back.

Also ha would people compare the keyboard against th Surface and Surface pro TouchType keyboards?

    No problems with screen bending.

No experience of Surface keyboards, but I think the XPS 11 keyboard is bloody awful. After 7 months with mine and pretty much daily use I still have far too many missed or mistyped key strokes. The touchpad also goes non responsive for periods as does the touchscreen. I think these issues may at times be due to lack of horsepower and memory, because it is at its worst when I have 20-30 tabs open in Chrome.

I did once really like this machine, despite the keyboard, but now it is just starting to get on my . I would not buy anything with a keyboard as crap as this again. Ditto the low spec. 4GB is not enough for my usage patterns At least the display is a delight.

So i made some progress in the sylus matter.
I found the exact digitizer product they used in the xps 11 and can retrieve the firmware version.

So my XPS 11 contains 2 Synaptics devices:
    1. Synaptics ClearPad 3200 Firmwareversion: 1531955 (Touchpad)
    2. Synaptics Clearpad 7501 Firmwareversion: 1540465 (Digitizer)

Ive made a simple tool to check these values. It would be ideal if someone with an working stylus would use it and post there results.

    Ive uploaded it on Dropbox.
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/ues4z6nvzpy2up3/SynapticsTool.zip?dl=0

    Just start the "get_TM_numbers.bat"
    Thanks in advance....

    Hi all

I bought a XPS11 a few weeks ago at 60% discount when Dell sold all stock left.

After two weeks with it, while installing some 3rd part drives it had a total crash. I couldn’t boot windows or restore tool. I couldn’t repair windows. I had to erase the windows partition (from the 7 that has) and install a clean windows with and UEFI copy of Win 8.1 from usb drive. I was hoping that after I could recover from the Dell restore partition, but I can’t.

The recovery partitions are there, they are full of files, but apparently the boot file must be damaged. When opening Dell recovery it says: “The Factory Recover Partition that was included with your system is missing or corrupt”. Also if I check booting options in Bios I only have "window" while I used o have two options.

I would like to ask you a big favour: could a kind soul copy the files from their restore partition and upload them?

With any partition free software or with diskpart you will need to mount “winretools” partition. And copy some of the files inside (for example if driver letter is h: )
    - H:/ (there are 3-4files in the parent folder)
    - H:/boot (the whole folder)

Thanks a lot, I hope with that I will fix it.

I just noticed my screen is bent! I have no idea how long for but I did have a technician replace the screen after a green stripe developed on the LCD. It's the top left corner of the screen (when viewed while open) is lifted by about 6mm when closed. Eurgh.

Has anyone had the issue where the desktop switches to the start screen by itself while you are working? Mine does it and sometimes will go back and forth between screens a number of times within a minute or so. Dell support and I have run every diagnostic the we can think of but have nor resolved the issue. It also makes a vibration sound when it does switch. Can anyone relate?

I received my XPS 11 last week from the Dell outlet. So far I really like it, especially for the price I paid and the specs compared to other machines I was looking at. I have gotten sufficiently used to the keyboard to make it perfectly useable for my needs, which admittedly don't involve an awful lot of typing. I do have a couple of niggles that I'm concerned about though that people here may be able to shed some light on as I don't want to have to send the machine back!

First though, having read through most of this thread, quasitraveler the issue you're having whereby you are getting switched back to the start screen sounds like the stuck start button from the last few posts of page 20. This happened to me just once. The volume buttons would start the narrator. Pushing/holding the windows button below the screen firmly a few times as suggested seemed to sort it out and it hasn't happened since. Hope it works for you too.

Now to my two concerns - both screen related - one touch and the other display. The touch issue is the same as others have described - touch response dropping out completely randomly mid use. There's nothing obvious that causes it like screen movement or anything, it just goes with no apparent cause or warning! Usually it comes back shortly afterwards. Once I have had to restart. Did anyone with the same issue make any progress with it besides replacement screen or machine?

My second issue isn't one I've seen anyone else mention, which is my display drops out. By that I mean, again in mid use the display just goes black. It is still lit, just black. It isn't caused by changing the screen angle or anything - it has happened in tablet mode and laptop mode when nothing is moving. Often it's just a very brief flicker to black and back up, or several times in quick succession, but sometimes it lasts a few seconds. It has so far always come back up without needing to sleep or restart. It's also not the same as the screen sleeping, as it stays lit rather than going totally dark. I've reinstalled the display drivers, but to no avail. I'd be interested to hear if anyone else here has experienced this issue or has any thoughts about it.

If I could get these two frustrating, intermittent niggles sorted the XPS 11 would be a dream!

When my XPS 11 is plugged in, screen closed and in sleep mode, it will randomly wake itself up (evidenced by illuminated power light after computer no longer charging). When I flip open the screen, the password field starts populating with keystrokes (as if someone is trying to login). There are so many keystrokes, however, that it takes me to clear the entire length of the field 3-4 times before I can enter mine. This occurs just about every time I put into sleep, close lid and leave charging but it has happened several times when not plugged in which ultimately drains my battery. I have found that if I put it in sleep with screen open or tablet mode it does no do this.

Well, that was the behavior of my first XPS 11 so I got it replaced today with a refurb and would you believe the replacement did the same thing to me in the first 1 hour!

How is it I'm the only one this happens to, twice in a row!? I'm starting to believe a govt agency is intercepting my packages and placing their spyware on my tech! Please, someone tell me otherwise.

I just picked one of these up for $600 from office depot.com... Seems like a nice little device for that money... They keyboard I can live with.... However, the screen brightness, which I read was 400 nits seems pretty low and yes, I have changed all the brightness settings, dimming, adaptive, etc... Compared to my surface and other computers, it just seems low. Maybe I am expecting too much? Anyone else notice this?
