Anyone else having issues with the Windows Button at the bottom of the LCD screen? It works in laptop mode but not in tablet mode. I find that kind of strange.. It will go back to start screen when it's in laptop mode but the button becomes useless in tablet mode.
-
I'm really thinking about getting one.
Is it powerful enough to edit 1080p 60fps movies?
Thanks -

I've had the laptop for 3 weeks now, and the only issue I've had is the touch screen not working. This has happened twice, but a restart sorts it out.
Besides that I can only recommend this computer to others. It is an amazing piece of kit. -
Status just changed to shipped
Orderdate: 25-11
Into production: 18 or 19 December
Shipped 22-12
EDD was 24-12 doubt it will make it here that soon but atleast its on its way -
Got an email from Dell today, the order has been shipped and UPS tracker reckons from China to the UK by end of day Monday 24th, considering the email was sent 14:00 Saturday 22nd and tomorrow is Sunday I am a bit skeptic about it arriving Xmas Eve. Still better than the 1st week of Jan as per previous phone call from them.
My order was on 24/11/12 with an original EDD of 20/12/12 but had a phone call form Dell earlier this week saying I would not receive it until the 1st week of January. Hats off it they do deliver by xmas eve, it will be my number one present -
-
Same, EDD for the 24th, shame I'll be in a different city with my family, also had a EDD of the 20th, did you get the £50 voucher offer?
Also have yet to have the money withdrawn from my account for it, or even ringfenced. -
are recent owners encountering trackpad and touch screen issues? (even with latest drivers and BIOS installed) i was waiting patiently for my xps 12 to arrive as it was also delayed, but after 4 days of ownership, the usability issues are hard to manage, and i'm wishing i had got a Samsung. (it's fine if you dock it and use a second screen and keyboard/mouse, but it's pretty unstable on it's own.) too bad as the hardware itself is awesome - just software/driver problems that make it a below average machine.
-
Also had email from Dell with tracking code. Didn't look at date in email (turned out to be 24-12 aswell) but went straight to UPS site. And that said 27-12. But has now been updated to 24-12. So i hope it will indeed be here tomorrow.

I honestly believe touchscreens will render touchpad obsolete in the future. No one in my family uses touchpad on their laptops. It sucks for both enthusiast and typical users. -

I have always used IBM/Lenovo trackpoint (nipple mouse), I find it hard using a touchpad, when I got my Dell Alienware M14X earlier this year I found it hard using the thouchpad, luckily I use the M14x as a base unit with a wireless keyboard and mouse but still find a normal mouse harder than the trackpoint. Hopefully the thouch screen will be as good as the trackpoint that I will be losing...........

Well bugger.
XPS 12 came today, all excited and happy, turn it on and the screens amazing, but and there is unfortunately a but, there is a high pitched frequency noise coming from the system.
Lets see how long a replacement takes to come -
Had same issues as andrewh3 (and many others)
Machine was pretty much unusable out of the box. Tried almost 3 weeks to remedy.
Dell is sending a replacement machine that is in production now.
We'll see what happens with XPS 12 #2. -
Mine just shipped a few minutes ago! Can't wait to receive mine! I had to call them though and find out why it wasn't going to ship until January 11th after being ordered November 28th and their response was they had no clue why it wasn't shipped and that it was just sitting around waiting to be shipped. The rep got done what was needed, so I'm happy. I'm estimating it will be here monday, and I'll update you guys then! Anyways my specs are just the base configuration upgraded to windows 8 pro.
-
I have received mine and over all pretty happy with it BUT!!!
I have the following issues;
1. There is 2 slight sunspots one is on the middle on the left hand edge part of the screen (mainly noticeable on boot when viewing from a 45 degree's from the left) and the 2nd one is in the middle bottom edge of the sceen.
2. The touchpad does not always respond they way it should (eg sometimes when you tap to move the cursor nothing happens and you have to right click instead)
3. There is a slight but noticeable high pitch frequency noise coming from underneath.
All these things are minor but I would like to know,
Does anybody have these issues?
or am I just being fussy?
Should I do something or is it normal, if it was an everyday £400-£500 Inspirion I might let it slip but it is a £1150 machine so I kinda expect it to be perfect........... -
Mine arrived 24/12. Only 3 days later than planned. I wonder if I will still receive the voucher of 60 € they promised me on the phone...
Up until now, I have not noticed any of the issues other people mentioned here: no high pitch or other noise from the fan, no problems with non responding touch screen or touchpad...
Overall I’m very happy with the PC (N.B.: I have the i5 version). The only thing that bothers me a bit is the high resolution screen. I hadn’t expected this, but everything is very small on the screen. Ofcourse in many programs you can use Ctrl+scroll up to zoom, but this doesn’t work for menu’s etc. I find e.g. Adobe Photoshop hard to use with the small icons. They have released an update for the retina displays of the new macbook, but there is no such thing for windows (yet)... I hope software will be adapted soon.
So far I’m also no big fan of windows 8... I find myself using desktop mode most of the time. I use mostly google apps (mail, calendar, talk, drive, google+...) and the integration in windows 8 is not great. Not many useful apps either: no dropbox app yet, no (official) facebook app,... -
just got my xps 12 and am typing on it now. so far no out of the box problems! i absolutely love this machine!
-
Same here. Thought it was the fan, but it's totally independent from it and seems to be coming more from the right hand side of the machine, and also my windows button just under the screen isn't working. But that may be a driver/software issue, I updated any out of date software and drivers from the Dell website before I checked the button was working, I could restore it back to factory settings to make sure, But the noise is enough for me to warrant seeking a replacement. -

So has anyone noticed how loud the fan can get? Wondering if they will release a BIOS update soon that will adjust it. Any way we can change fan speed at the moment?
Besides the sporadic fan, system is great. -

I ordered on Dec 14th with an EDD of an unbelievable 6/2/13 (for Germany)... -
Another question to those who already got theirs: what version of windows 8 is the xps 12 shipping with (win 8 or win 8 pro)? In different reviews i see different stickers on the bottom. In case it's dependent of the specs, i ordered the full spec one (i7/8gb/256gb ssd).
Thanks.
p.s.: since this is my first post, this thread is awesome. Thanks to all contributors before me! -

I'm running a clean install of Win8 Pro + latest drivers. I tried resetting the calibration, but no dice. Has it happened again to you or anyone else? -

On the Dutch website:
Business = Windows 8 Pro
Consumer = Windows 8 -
Anyway, luckily my university supplies me with a win 8 pro license through a MS student program. Shouldn't be much of a problem upgrading from win8 to win8 pro by just entering the license key. Or am I wrong at that point? -

UK here, also had no option. Just normal win 8.
Is it worth upgrading? -

Got mine today! (Netherlands).
Ordered on November 15th -
Well phoned and got a exchange ordered. My faulty XPS 12 is being picked up on the 7th, New one has no ETA at this point in time.
The buzzing noise is just too noticeable and distracting. But I returned it for the Home button under the screen not working, I restored it back to factory settings last night and nada, just a hollow click with no response to switch back to the start screen or between apps. -
Also, has anyone noticed in the Cypress touchpad driver if you disable Palm Rejection (ie. uncheck the box) that the setting only remains disabled until you reboot? I tested this by disabling Palm Rejection and opening a Word document where I could move the cursor and type at the same time (exactly what I would expect with the option turned off). If I reboot my computer the option is still disabled in the Cypress Touchpad settings, but if I again do the same test in Word the touchpad pauses while I am typing. In order to turn this off I need to re-enable and disable the Palm Rejection option. -
I noticed for the 1st few times when I turned the touch sensitivity and speed up when I rebooted it went back to defualt but has since settled down
-
Yes, so I did find some problems, and I can verify such. Though its not urgent or a deal breaker for me.
Software?
-Touchscreen stops working and have to reboot. It doesn't seem to have problems if I'm playing a game, but when I have to browse(I played first 2 missions of Starcraft II, and tested LoL just for fun. The former is playable in slow missions using touch for unit commands and arrow keys for moving the map, the latter is not).
-Fan can be quiet one moment and not running, but be loud for no reason. Reboot fixes it too
Touchpad seems acceptable after the latest update.
Hardware?
-High pitch noise happens once in a while. But its not always there
Getting it replaced and called Dell to replace both
-The down arrow key made a squeaking sound, I took that key apart and reassembled it.
-On the display aluminum hinge, you'll notice on the inside there are plastic bars that are in place with Torx screws. That seems to be warped a bit, enough to notice that its extruding few mm in Tablet mode. I wonder why they couldn't have just used a metal one rather than plastic? That "bar" is also what the mechanism uses to lock into place.
I assume the touchscreen that stops working is due to MS's fault. -
I'm back on a 2009 15" MacBook Pro and I can't understand why 3 years later Dell are shipping a convertible ultrabook with so many issues.
The high pitched noise is really a dealbreaker for me, It's distracting, seems to produce a headache and totally unusable for my studies in class.
Trackpad was fine, had to turn off gestures as it would try and do gestures instead of following my mouse movements, but I can live with that and use shortcut on the keyboard anyway.
High Pitched Noise and the Windows button under the screen, shame as I loved the keyboard and just playing with the flippy hinge feature, everything else I loved (though the trackpad could be made out of better materials).
Well lets see how long I have to wait for a new replacement. -
The trackpad is really annoying me and wondered if there was a work around. I always work in desktop mode but almost every time I drag the mouse around it changes to Metro and I have to keep switching back. I have the latest drivers and bios so wondered what people might suggest, It's frankly unworkable at the moment as I cannot surf around without the desktop switching metro and back again.

Found out that when you open your laptop out of standby, the brightness is very high, but when you change it with the fn+f4 key it is all whole lot of less bright.. And I can't get it as bright as it was when opening the laptop ?

What games have you guys managed to play on the system?
I've tried some Empire total war, seemed playable, but was busy with work, so didn't have time to check properly.
