lol, how you can expect to get the same you paid for it?
I'll give you $1000. -
Mine changed to in production today, too. I am so happy. Chances are it arrives before Christmas! Yeey! -
-
Yep, but still. Going to take a sucker for that bet, Same price, 2nd hand system (lets ignore the fact it's easy to scam on both ends).
Expect to eat at least $250.
Hell, I bet you can get it cheaper with the discount codes. -

FYI..if people were hesitant to get the XPS 12 because of touchpad issues, I will say that the latest driver has fixed all issues (which were minimum) with my touchpad. It never quits responding anymore and works as it should. Been using the new driver for a week now.
-
The new touchpad drivers have fixed all of my previous problems (ie. not repsonding). Also, I was having a problem with the touchscreen where I could see the "shadow" (ie. the touch cursor) jump all over the screen when I was trying to use it. I finally figured out it was a bad calibration in Windows 8, I reset my calibration and haven't had any problems since.
Overall, the XPS 12 has been a pretty solid laptop for work and entertainment. -
I found this place after I started wondering were my XPS 12 was, I orderd the 8GB/256GB version on the 24/11/12 it had an EDD 20/12/12 but after reading on here and it still being listed as pre-production I am getting doubtful it will arrive in the next 5 days buy the EDD 20/12/12
I am in the UK BTW.
From what I have gathed from reading on here there is a shortage of screens? -
This is what Dell said on Twitter:
I have checked on the Order. It seems that there's a part shortage for the LCD that causes the delay. Again, apologies for the delay ^AF

Just had a tweet from Dell
"Hi, thanks for reaching out. The order is under production. The ETA for delivery is 20th of December. ^RS
03:36 PM - 15 Dec 12 "
Not going to get my hopes up though............ -
I've had the xps 12 for about a week, will share my experience tomorrow, overall it works like a dream. However, I am having frustrating problems not being able to make either Java or Flash to work properly. Java-based Freeplane mind mapping software doesn't function, it started once, but not any more. Websites needing Flash just don't work. It's probably a Windows 8 problem, not an xps 12 problem, but has anybody had the same issue or know what to fix and how?
-
You may have to install flash for the desktop IE, make sure to unclick the additional software that Adobe is trying to sneakily install (generally Chrome or other crap) if you don't want it.
If the desktop IE isn't on your start screen you can add it as follow:
right click on the start screen, on the lower menu click "all applications"
You should see ieplore with a blue 'e' , right click on it and click "add to start screen".
Do not confuse it with Internet Explorer, which is a white 'e' on a blue background, and is the "modern UI" IE.
For Java you really have to check with which version of the JVM your application is compatible.
I've had serious trouble with the latest JVM from Oracle breaking apps, and that was with Windows 7 already. I had to downgrade the VM and ended up completely deinstally Java but this may not be an option for you.
You may also need to start your application as administrator the first time, or reinstall it as administrator.
If the link is on the modern UI's start screen, just right click then select "Start as administrator" from the lower menu bar.
If the link is on the desktop task bar, right click it then right click the app name on the popup menu then "start as administrator".
Hope this helps. -
Dell really are beginning to annoy me. Ordered on 9th Nov with EDD of 5th Dec. went into production 2 days ago and they tweet an ETA for shipping, not delivery, of 31st Dec. So, I place my order 15 days before you and it ships 11 days after you receive yours! What kind of order system do they run? Good luck by the way, I hope it arrives on schedule. -
Greetings! Just joined. I was really glad to find this BB. The BB at Dell is just venomous with no real discussions, suggestions, help, etc. I'm in the states. Ordered my XPS 12 on November 26th with a EDD of 12/14. Got a delay notice of 12/24. Got an email today saying it has shipped with a 3-5 day delivery. Very excited and anxious. This is going to be a long weekend ...
-
I ordered on the 26th (UK) for EDD on the 20th.
I got a response and was told all ok and the EDD is still the 20th.
I'm going to be mighty annoyed if it comes to the 20th and the dell rep suddenly holds his hands up and goes "ohhhh look, there is a parts shortage, it'll be well into the new year before it's ready".
I'm not sure it's worthwhile waiting 2 months for it. -
Sure enough, overnight on 14 December I got an email saying my build was now complete and the EDD was 20 December.
I dont know if the same factory supplies all locations - I am in Australia. -
A Lenovo rep recently said "industry underestimated demand for touchscreens".
Up until now, Touchscreens in the greater than 10 inch hasn't been widely used. But that's changed. I assume that most of the PC manufacturers are being very conservative with Touchscreen systems, hence the supply issue. The another contribution is of course people willing to buy Touchscreen systems are lot greater than before too. Unlike Tablet PCs 5-10 years ago, battery life is much better, its thinner and lighter, and performance is fantastic while Windows 8 brings gestures and accurate touch required for a good user experience(Modern UI still sucks though).
Probably around January-February supply issues should become much better. -
Well, after another twitter DM conversation with @Dellcares last night, my order status has today magically changed to Shipped. I'm sure it must be coincidence, but the day after each of my two moans to @dellcares my order has changed status for the better! Yesterday it was in production with an estimated shipping date of 31st December, moan last night and today it has shipped. Coincidence or not, I'm not arguing.
Anybody in the UK that can tell me how long theirs has taken to arrive once shipped? -

I bought mine at JBHifi in NZ. They only had the display model. They bumped $200 off the price since it was the display model. It was brand new. -
Sounds like you got a great deal on yours. -

It is not in production yet with estimated delivery 21/12... -
My replacement notebook took almost a month for me to get Dell put the order in on Nov. 19th for the replacement and I just got it.
The battery and the screen are way better then the original one the screen is more responsive now to just get the trackpad working properly. -
According to the owner's manual it seems possible to change the battery as well as the SSD which seems to be in fact an mSATA.
Anybody tried to open the XPS12 or change the mSATA?
Also no mention about RAM, is it soldered on the motherboard? -
I Tweeted @DellCare today and had a phone call from Dell a few hours later saying that I would not get it until the 1st week of January (the EDD was 20/12/12), they said I would get £50 credit to use at Dell for inconvenience, I told them it was someones Xmas present and I was not happy. The funny thing is @DellCare tweeted me back a few hours after they phone me and said
"HI, I am sorry for the delay. As of now the laptop is under production. We will track the order and keep you updated with the status. ^RH"
So I guess it is still a waiting game.................... -
Mine too has an EDD of 12/20, I contacted Dell today to see if it would ship today, as it would have to in order to arrive on 12/20. They are now saying that is only an estimate based on component availability. I called and asked specifically for a more realistic date in order to set my expectations, and they are still sticking to the 12/20 date, so we shall see. They didn't offer me anything for my inconvenience though.

Jeez guys, I am glad I ordered when I did. Seems you are getting messed about way too much.
Get on the phone and demand maximum compensation for the inconvenience. They would much rather give some freebies than lose your sale. -
I am so happy right now, mine is supposed to arrive tomorrow (says UPS). It just left Kazakhstan  -
Well it happened, I got the phonecall today.
Not going to recieve it before the new year. Got offered a £50 voucher, which was fine, I sort of expected it to be delayed and it's not a huge problem for me going to buy The Dell XPS 12 Case
I stacked discount codes to get £300 off a £1200 XPS12 model so nothing else comes close.
Just got to wait and see when the new EDD appears.
Also yes the mSata drive can be replaced, the RAM not so much. -
I had a missed call from Dell today... I guess I know what they have to tell me...
-
FWIW: I just got updated to "In Production" for an order placed on 11/25 in US. Still is telling me a delivery date of 1/4/12 though.
-
Dell called again. I will receive my order after January 5 and I get a voucher of 60 €... :-(
-
Now says In Production, thought they're probably going to miss the 20th for delivery.

Hi Guys,
due to only one model available for my market (Ukraine) want to make some upgrade
1. Is there a way to attach a WWAN module instead of mSata? Like that WWAN KM266 UMTS GSM GPRS Modul Dell XPS M1730 Vostro 1400 1500 1700 Mini 9 12 OK | eBay
2. Can i upgrade i5 for i7-3667U on that chipset?
Thank you -

Moved to shipped this morning, EDD 12/21.
-
Arrived today, 3 days after the status moving to Shipped.
Exactly 2 weeks later than the original EDD.
Now to set up and install everything. -
Called Dell 2 days ago:
Waiting for parts. Supply problem will probably be resolved by end of januari. Only thing they offered was to cancel order for a full refund. So i was all likeBut decided to wait a little longer to see what happened.
And today:
It went into productionLets just hope i get it before christmas.
Model: i7 256Gb SSD 8Gb RAM
Orderdate: 25-11
EDD: 24-12
Country: The Netherlands -
How much did you pay? Ill be in Holland late Jan... Considering ordering there instead of Canada.
-
-
They move these babies pretty quickly when all the parts are available. After patiently sitting in the "waiting for parts" queue for a couple of weeks, the screens came in on Friday, and my XPS12 was delivered at 8am Wednesday morning. I am in Australia.
I havent had time to play too much with it so far, but initial impression is very good (thankfully no issues with trackpad!!). -
That's like a bajillion canadian dollars
-
So anyone tell me is there a spare sata or msata slot for connecting SSD, because i want to plug a wwan module into the primary msata. Thank you
-
You can upgrade the SDD. Processor and RAM should be soldred, though.
Mine is due to arrive any hour now! Can't wait! -
