The power adaptor is small IMO its 3.5"x 1" my Galaxy S2 is bigger.

I bought the Dell leather XPS 12 Sleeve and its really nice and well made, but has no storage,. The one you linked looks good too.. I almost got the Timbuk2 Escape which is similar to what you linked,

I got the email wednesday that mine had shipped, but with no tracking info. I emailed my rep and he said it was a premature email as is still technically in production. The system shipped from the manufacturer plant in china and on its way to dell in us. Then it will ship to me, so it will still probably be a week or so. GRRRR

It's bothering my too. People who've ordered it on the same day I did have already gotten theirs. I'm sorry but this is way too slow. By the time we get our laptops there's probably a price drop.

I just received mine today. I am pretty impressed by the computer...so far no trackpad issues. I do find that the screen on the Sony Vaio Duo was slightly better in terms of color gamut and reproduction but it is still a nice screen. The computer is quiet and I think there is a slight coil whine but I'm not really bothered by it. The clicking of the trackpad feels pretty cheap but there's a touch screen so whatever. The build quality in general however is very good, though I would still give the Sony the edge in this category. While the keyboard feels good, it is still not as nice as my Sony Z's keyboard which is probably the nicest one that has been made--still haven't found a better keyboard! The charger is TINY--smallest charger I've seen on a computer. It's barely larger than my Thinkpad Tablet 2 charger! I think this would make a very good computer first, tablet second and I intend to keep it until the Helix comes out, which will probably be my next laptop. Or I may feel the pressure and get the Surface Pro! Regardless, I would say this is the best of the Windows 8 ultrabooks so far and I'm excited about what will come in the next year!

I doubt a price drop anytime soon. but I am sure they will start throwing sales at these.. maybe for certain configurations or accessories.

Had my first Win8 hiccup last night, for some reason I couldn't launch anything. all the tiles would move when I double click or tapped them. After a restart it went away... was odd, anyone else ever have an issue like that?

I've been using it for a few days now. So far no hardware issues (no coil whine or anything like that). The trackpad has some issues (freezes up randomly occasionally), but it's not big enough of a problem for me to want to get fixed immediately (I'm also lazy).

    The keyboard is great
    Screen is great

My only issues with the computer is because of windows 8. Coming from W7, it's a huge change, and I didn't like the changes they made. I had to disable some of the trackpad gestures and turn off the useless Microsoft account crap. After that it became a lot more enjoyable to use for me.

Another issue (or user preference) in windows 8 is when you're in desktop mode and you load up the virtual keyboard, the screen doesn't shift to adjust for the keyboard. Instead the keyboard just blocks the bottom half of your screen. Not too big of a deal though. You'd probably only use the virtual keyboard when using the desktop mode in a tablet, and even then it's not too big of an issue.

Had my first hiccup when I started my laptop when it had 5% battery left or something. Once I logged in, it was just a blank screen and nothing loaded (not even in task manager). I had to restart my computer. This has only happened once.

Everything else is great though. I'm really loving it and can't wait to show it off to people.

Just my 2 cents after owning the laptop for 3 days.

Middle config in the UK (i5, 8GB, 256GB)

Has gone down to 2-3 day delivery!

So backlog may be clearing and times might improve now?

So it just hit me how AMAZING this display is. The color is so rich and true, the picture is sharp and crisp its unbelievable. (while watching 720p and 1080p video of course) It's almost like you're watching the video it in person.

Has anyone played League of Legends on this before?

I'm running with all settings off/low and no V-sync. My FPS hovers around 27 and lags a lot in teamfights, even if I use 1280x800 resolution. I even run on high performance in the power settings.

I was also playing without the power chord connected

    Touch-pad Update
There was a cypress driver update that i missed in my rss feed a few days a go for the l321x that i updated on my 12 and the touch-pad is better than i have ever seen it (So far no hesitation) i have been using now for approx 1hr and haven't seen 1 hesitation yet where normally by that time i have seen 5-10+ hesitations. I hope this fixes it for you all too.

2.5.3.35, A04 it says it is for 7 32/64 only I can confirm it works fine on MY 8 64bit.

Has anyone else noticed a slow load time for Window Store apps, including the pre-loaded apps (Mail, News, etc.)? In particular, after launching an app and seeing the splash screen there is a delay of several seconds before I see the spinning wait cursor. This happens when using a wireless connection as well as when using a wired connection (through a USB LAN adapter). All of my drivers are up to date and I have not experienced any other issues with my XPS 12.

I have several other Windows 8 machines and on all of them the Windows Store app load times are nearly instant.

So far 10 hours no glitches that I have seen

also I have upgraded my msata to a 480GB SSD

Amazon.com: Mushkin MKNSSDAT480GB Atlas Series mSATA SATA III 480GB Internal SSD: Computers & Accessories
currently $469 and I get a rating of 8.1 still and appears to be Toshiba based chips per speccy the card is slightly thicker too as it has an extra layer of chips and a 1.1 amp but battery life seems to have not changed much at all maybe 15 minutes shorter

    @Seifert -
I had this issue and tried several things to resolve. The slow loading times ended up being the result of the drivers for a Targus USB 3.0 docking station I am using. After I uninstalled, the Windows Store apps loaded much faster.

One way to test if it's a driver issue is to enable software rendering in Internet Explorer. If you enable software rendering and the Store apps load faster, you know there's something wrong with your video drivers.

WHAT?...NO! I just ordered the i7 on 14th Jan and my estimated delivery date is 23rd Feb! Outrageously long time to wait!

so I ordered the i7 and chose office home and student edition but I've just realised it doesn't have outlook which I need for my business :s
My question is, I know I can't change my order now but would I be able to upgrade to office pro without paying the full price again?
    Any advice would be appreciated!

I would just purchase Outlook separately from an online vendor or eBay. It should be a cheaper route as well.

It's easy but then again I have opened it a few times you need a T5 torex and Philips 0 you remove all the torex on the border and the Philips under the badge them it comes off but make sure you start by taking off the USB side first the slide the case over to allow it to remove with out breaking the power button the it's right. There starring at you peal back the black plastic cover and 1 more Philips and comes out like a wireless card

Wow, of all of the things that I thought to try (and there were many things, including enabling software rendering in IE), the Targus driver never crossed my mind. Since I am, in fact, using the docking station that you mentioned, it sounds like that is probably the culprit.

    Thanks for the tip!

    Hello everyone!

I'm coming from ASUS netbooks and am now looking into buying my first convertible laptop.
The reason I used relatively under powered netbooks is because I'm highly allergic to high system fan noise and to a lesser degree high operating temperatures.
What is the general experience with the XPS 12 when it comes to noise and heat? Are there any videos out there that accurately show the level of fan noise one can expect? Is it in line with the XPS 13 which is pretty much the same CPU and cooling system?

I've had my XPS 12 now for 3 weeks.. played games, surf and movie watch and i can say its a very quiet laptop and it really doesnt seem to push out too much heat at all (base XPS12) compared to my gaming laptop it barely audible. Its a really solid build.

Hi Kastulu! Is there any chance you can post a log file from HWiNFO with temperatures and loads?
It would be nice to see some data from a machine that's actually being used in a normal environment.

HWiNFO, HWiNFO32 & HWiNFO64 - Hardware Information and Analysis Tools

I have used DIY electrical resistors to slow down laptop fans in the past and by the looks of it I may have to do this with the XPS 12.

there's a great review of the XPS 12 here for anyone interested. It has lots of techy stats and tests that I haven't seen elsewhere and has the all the info you are asking about plus LOTS more. (although they are reviewing the i7 not i5.)

I've seen that review. Unfortunately, the model they are reviewing was a test model with an i7-3667U. A configuration which is not for actual sale.
In their review they also discovered the machine was throttling down to 800MHz. Their temperature data is thus not actually what you would expect in normal day to day use.

Another question to owners: Isn't 1080p on an 12.5' incredibly small? How does that work when using non-metro apps such as Office or just browsing the web? You would think text would be way too small.

I had the same concern (about the screen size) because I've been using an 18 inch laptop before this and on top of that my eyesight is very poor. But I have to say the screen is so incredibly clear and vivid that it's just not an issue. It's comparable to using the retina displays on Apple products, the text looks very crisp, I have no problem reading this forum for example. Hope that helps ease your concerns!

The same thing happens to me as well - the speed settings are OK when you set them initially, but then they are "forgotten" by the application eventually. I was running the official Dell Cypress driver for the XPS 12 and had the same issue, and I'm currently running the XPS 13 driver (mentioned a few posts up) and it still has the same problem.

How weird, the Dell UK website has removed all reference to anything other than the base spec.

With a ETA of the 22nd Feb.

Looks like my replacement will be delayed until the 13th of February. I HOPE this one will actually work.

Thanks. Hopefully you guys with the issues will get them sorted out. I actually can't technically say flawless due to coil whine, but it is no longer defective. I also am running the XPS L321X Cypress touch pad driver and so far that driver is better than the A04 XPS 12 touch pad driver.

Yes. I have a 1080p screen on a 13.3" screen (Zenbook Prime), but as this user said, has not been an issue because of clarity. I have scaling for Windows and my chrome set to 125%.

Would you guys say that £1000 is a good price for this config? Im from the UK and that seems to be the best price i can get with vouchers.....

I suppose it depends what you will be using the laptop for whether its worth the money for you, but for most tasks and if you want a decent fast laptop running windows 8 which you would occasionally like to use as a tablet then I'd say yes. If you are looking for a high end gaming laptop or will be using this mostly in tablet mode then i'd say no.

I can't comment on how good it is in person as mine hasn't arrived yet but I have high expectations and would Expect it to rival if not better a MacBook in terms of quality and usability. Perhaps someone here who has one already can comment on the workmanship etc. btw the mid range option you are going for is currently instock according to the UK website and EDT is 21 jan which is great as I have to wait until 23 feb for mine!

    Thanks for the reply!

I wouldnt really want it for gaming, got my desktop for that. I think it fits my needs and from what people have been saying it seems to be very well built (apart from the touchpad?). My choice was between this and the Yoga 13....

If you dont mind me asking, how much have you (and others) paid for their xps 12's? Did you get a lot of discount through vouchers etc? Ive heard topcashback sometimes has trouble registering dell purchases?

Has anyone else had an issue with screen dimming? I just opened mine today and the screen is set to max brightness and does not dim, eventhough the Fn + (F4 / F5) work and move the dim bar up and down.
Here are the things I've tried:
    *On latest BIOS (A05)
    *Latest "Quickset" software
    *Latest graphics driver
    *Latest chipset driver
    *Reformatted to factory settings.
*Disabled / enabled "Adaptive Display" settings.

It is driving me insane, and it seems no one else has an issue... :(

To confirm, are you saying that your screen is auto-dimming, even when you have all auto-dimming and adaptive brightness turned off? I am currently having this issue on my Zenbook Prime and am looking for a fix. Most noticeable when switching back and forth between light and dark backgrounds.

Ok, I may be better waiting for the surface for a likely price drop as the poster below has mentioned.

Do you mind stating what vouchers you use to get it so cheap?

Hi I opted for the i7 8gb 256 spec, I paid an eye watering £1400 odd for it, but I also opted for the 1 year damage warranty, MS office and face recognition software. I had no vouchers or discount codes. I haven't bought a brand new laptop in a long time and I need this for my business - well that's my excuse anyway!!!!! I really think it's best to get the highest spec you can afford as it will serve you longer in the long run. I would have been fine with the i5 but I'm very impatient and crave blistering speed and don't want my needs to outgrow this machine too quickly.
