That sucks that your things were stolen. Did you not have prey or hidden installed? That software that pin points the location of your stolen laptop and emails you pictures of the theif trying to use it.

The thing that put me off about the surface pro was the fact that I wouldn't be able to use it on my lap or adjust the viewing angle.
I know someone who uses it for uni though and he loves it, it records the lecture on one side of the screen and he takes notes on the other side.

I just ordered my Xps 12 on monday (3-4). I am so excited, i cant wait to get it. Its expected delivery date is 3-15. I am a little concerned about the wifi issues alot of people have been having but hopefully i will be lucky and wont have an issue. Also i have been searching everywhere online for a skin for my computer with no luck. I get that you cant have a hard case for it because of the swivel screen but you should be able to stick a skin on it. Has anyone had any luck finding a skin?

To be honest it was fully covered via insurance, so I don't really need it back, plus it happened in Spain probably a gang who broke into the place.

The Dell would have been good but the fan is whiny and keeps spinning.

Would be interested to know what temps other i7 users are getting using Core Temp:

    http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/php/download.php?id=3

Mine completely idle is 56c ish. But fan would come on even if CPU usage was 5%

Why would you want to cover up such a beautiful machine with a skin? Just get a sleeve to put it in when transporting, I posted some photos of the one I bought which is a really good fit & offers good protection ...

I already bought a sleeve, the silver color is just boring. I would like to have something to fit my style more. I would never buy a Mac but I am jealous of the unlimited number of accesories they offer.

    FYI.

Brand new wireless, chipset and video drivers available yesterday.

Hopefully it resolves the occassional wireless connectivity issues.

I've had my XPS12 for 2 months now and I love it. Whoever is returning theirs must have a really terrible model. I ordered two XPS12's one for me, one for my girlfriend and both of ours have been lightning fast and dead silent.
Averaging probably around 6-7hrs battery life with the i5 with moderate use and movies.

I downloaded Coretemp and my min temps are 46c and 43c and max 63c and 66c, it usually runs around 50-56c whilst idling the highs were from playing video. The fan came on but I can't say when because I couldn't hear it, I had to hold the bottom of the laptop to my ear to hear it.

I finally got mine - it's great! Windows 8 takes some getting used to...

Build quality seems fine. I haven't noticed any issues with the fan, coil whine, wifi, or touchscreen not working. The touchpad seems to work fine - the only issue is that sometimes my taps (not the full click - just taps) work and sometimes they don't. Overall it's a great system!

I had that with taps not always working, I updated to the new touchpad driver on the dell website and I disabled palm rejection on the touchpad settings and now it works fine.

It sometimes comes on while asleep and not charging. I've fallen asleep to movies and been woken up hours later by the fan blasting away for no reason.

Guys, have any of you noticed this problem:

In power plan settings, there's an option to set how long it takes before the laptop goes into hibernation (under "sleep" settings). After setting it to certain amount of minutes (I tried 60, 120, etc.), and click save. When I enter the settings to check, it does not save this setting properly, and it still shows as "never". I am really just scratching my head at this point because I could not find any results on google...

If you have this issue, please let me know. I just want to make sure that it is not just me, because the computer does go into hibernation after certain amount of time, which I haven't counted yet. It looks like it just shows as "never" for some reason.

I have the choice of choosing between two different configurations of CPU (the rest will be the same, 8 GB and 256 GB SSD) that our company has on order, one with the i7 3667 and the other with the i7 3537. I know the 3667 is slightly faster but is the slightly older model (Q2 of '12) while the 3537 is Q1 '13. So the quick question is, would you pass on the slightly faster processor and pick the newer one for the sake of maybe less battery consumption or heat emission?

    thanks in advance

The newer one probably uses less power which is why they were able to clock it slightly faster...So the power consumption is probably the same but you get a little more horse power...Not much though...

I have the Timbuk2 sleeve and I like it. I also have a Built NY sleeve. Both do the job okay, but I think the Timbuk2 sleeve is the better of the two. Sorry, I have no experience with the hard case.

I have an Adonit Jot Pro, and it seems to work okay. I am not a big user of a stylus - just basic drawing use at this point in time - so I don't know how these would perform for a "true artist". I suspect that the end result probably has as much (possibly more) to do with the drawing app you are using than the stylus itself. But as I say, I am a bit of a novice with a stylus, so perhaps someone with more experience could give a more expert opinion.

My estimated delivery date is Friday (3-15), however I got an email yesterday morning (Monday 3-11) saying that my order had shipped. The site still says in production (I have next day delivery). Then I got a voicemail later in the day from dell support telling me that my computer is in production (like the exact same message that I got last Wednesday telling me the same thing). So I'm not sure if my computer is shipped or still in production.
Also I am also kind of worried because I've had the temporary charge for the computer on my credit card since last week but this morning I noticed it is not there anymore, the transaction hasn't posted and its not taken out of my available balance. So there is no record of the payment whatsoever on my credit card.

Here is a screenshot from my XPS12 running the SpeedFan app:

The chart shows core temperatures and as you can see they fluctuate between 50 and 60. The fan tends to come on until the temperature is down to 50-52, though the temperature will then rise again and the fan will soon come on again.

Is this normal behaviour? I am just browsing the web etc whilst this is happening. Resource monitor shows 12-16% CPU usage.

    Thanks

    @one_two

I had the same issue. As a work around you can disable the screen rotation. Long term this appears to be a hardware issue. I have an XPS 12 as my work machine with Dell Pro Support. They tried everything software-wise before eventually replacing my screen and the motherboard in one go. This was only done yesterday, I'll post back in a day or two to let you know if it's been completely resolved.

I also had issue with the wifi but again, being a pro support customer I got an Email to say new drivers had be released this month ( Driver Details | Dell Ireland ) . This resolved any issues I had with limited connection or simply not being able to connect to a wireless network.

    yes,
Make sure to remove all Intel wireless drivers then remove the bigfoot driver using their removal tool and reinstall it. I had that issue with the Bluetooth as the card has Bluetooth built into it and I noticed the Intel driver was messing up my Bluetooth on the 1202 also make sure that the primary antenna and secondary are properly seated.

    Hi guys,

So, I bought an XPS 12 in December, got it in January, had damn near the entire guts of the system replaced in Dell's efforts to fix the twitchy trackpad, and then received a replacement machine (after waiting a month for it) with the same problem, so I sent both back for a refund and swore I'd just wait until Haswell machines came out.

But, there were a lot of things about this machine that I really, really liked. As my current laptop nears its deathbed and I wonder whether I'll make it to Haswell, I'm considering trying again. I thought I'd check in and see how the issues I had with the machine are progressing.

I basically had four problems, only one of which was a dealbreaker:
    1) Sluggish trackpad, and in particular doubletaps not registering (according to previous posts turning off palm rejection fixes the doubletap issue?)
    2) The well-documented WiFi periodic problems connecting
    3) Screen occasionally going non-responsive (according to previous posts, disabling auto-rotation fixes this?)
    And the dealbreaker,
    4) Often, and without any pattern I could see (when coming out of sleep, perhaps), the trackpad would go crazy. Just putting my finger down and not moving it would result in a cursor that twitched frantically back and forth over as much as an inch of screen, occasionally resizing or doubletapping in the process. This was well beyond the usual less-responsive trackpad, and made the trackpad essentially unusable. Interestingly, this happened only when the machine was plugged in, and stopped immediately upon removing the plug. I assumed it had to be a hardware issue (something not grounded, perhaps, and I was completing a circuit by touching the pad), but a near-full internal hardware replacement did nothing, and then my replacement machine did it too. I've seen occasional mention of something that sounds like this problem in previous posts, but it doesn't seem to be commonplace. Is anyone else seeing this, and (more importantly) is there a solution yet? (The late-January drivers did not fix the problem, *edit* and neither did disabling palm rejection, which is the first thing tech support had me do.)

But, the hardware... oh, how I loved the hardware. It was sturdy, and attractive, and the screen was bright and sharp and a joy to look at. And the flipping gimmick, although really just a gimmick, nonetheless really appeals to me (and no other convertible implements it nearly as well).

So, forgive the long post, but what I'm asking is, has anyone found confirmed solutions to these problems, especially my dealbreaking seizure-y touchpad issues? I want this machine, but in particular it needs to have a useable trackpad, I have trouble believing that I got two duds and a third won't do exactly the same thing.

Got mine today. First impressions is that it's a well built rig. I updated windows and all the dell drivers and happy days. I got a liteon SSD unfortunately... Shame it wasnt a Samsung!

I noticed to use the screen vertical facing backwards from laptop mode I first have to flip, then close the screen, hold the laptop up and then reopen it. Must be just the way it has to work ?

I should be getting mine tomorrow, I have updated the fedex tracking thing like 50 times from work today. I am so excited, I know there have been some bugs. Are there certain settings I should change right away or things I should download or does it just vary from machine to machine? Also I want to download a software that I can turn on to track my computer if it is ever stolen, does anybody have any recommendations? I'm so excited!!!!

Does speed fan detect your fan? It doesn't detect mine.

On a totally different topic a few days ago I received an email from dell saying my order had been delayed until 5th April, I've had my laptop for around three weeks now so I don't know what all that is about?

I still have the issue of the fans not turning off when shutting down. I left for work today and when I came back the fans were blasting away, no cables were connected and it wasn't charging. I've seen others with similar problems with Dell, some could fix it by removing their BIOS battery but can this be done with the XPS 12?
Also when running Zune I get an error saying that my video drivers are outdated but according to the dell software and windows update I've got the newest drivers. Has anyone else experienced this?

Just ordered I5-3337, 256 SSD, 8GB RAM for 1400 with 3 year accidental warranty from dell outlet with Windows 8 Pro. Should be here next week. Currently says in Production. Was wondering if I should have went for the I7 with 128GB instead, any thoughts?

It really depends on what you are using it for which will determine whether you need the extra processing speed, the i5 is still very quick. I went for the i7 because I want this system to last a while and I didn't want my needs to outgrow the CPU. Personally I would have gone for the i7 because from what I understand you can upgrade the hard drive but not the CPU or ram. Having said that it seems that people have had more problems with the i7 than the i5 with issues like noisy, constant fans, the system running quite hot etc which is never a good thing - but myself I've had no problems with it at all it's extremely quiet and well behaved apart from a few touchpad driver bugs which now seem to have been resolved. Hope this helps you somewhat.

the choice of the cpu is really related on the type of use you intend to do. Mine is the beefier i7 3687 (although i had ordered the slightly slower 3667), it is lightning fast, it certainly covers all my needs for now but the choice of the i7 was made because i also want to keep the system for a while (min 3 yrs) and windows historically slows down as time goes on so i figured i may not need the extra speed now but may do so in the future. As far as the SSD, i went for the 256 because you dont have the choice of a micro sd that could you extra storage (for media etc.) and i figured it would be wise to have the capacity

Sounds like a windows process is consuming 100% CPU usage. Answers the max fan and minimal battery!

I am having some problems with my unit connecting the Bluetooth at high speed to my iPhone 5. I removed all the intel wifi and bluetooth driver sets, downloaded the latest BT and installed it first and then the latest wifi drivers. (Intel say to do it this way). I cannot for the life of me get BT to run more than 3mbps... Which is BT 2.0+EDR rate. This means LTE hotspot on my iPhone runs at a terrible 2mbps... A darn sight slower than the 95mbps+ I have seen on speedtest on my phone.

Windows reports the BT PAN connection speed of 3mbps.

I have also tested this with both laptop and phone not connected to any active wifi networks, as its to my understanding that BT High speed runs over the 802.11 chipset to obtain the 24mbps max speed... So I thought having an active link on that might cause the issue but this is not so, same result

Any help would be greatly appreciated ! Thank you!

I have a XPS 12 on order and have a question regarding the display-port dongle. Can I use any 3rd party display-port to HDMI or do I have to buy Dell's? Same with the display-port to Ethernet. Thanks for any information.

I have had my machine since late January and I remain a very satisfied customer. I have the I5, 8gb, 256 version. I use the machine for 3+ hours most days. On weekends it has been on for 8+ hours playing Civ 5.

    Regarding your 4 questions:
    (1) My trackpad can get sluggish, but it never reaches the point of being frustrating. It does occasionally (every few days) stop working (as does the screen touch), but rebooting is so quick, this doesn't bother me. (knocking on wood) The 2 have never gone out at the same time.
    (2) My WiFi is rock solid
    (3) See (1) above
    (4) That has never happened to me.

Regarding use as a tablet. I use it this way at least half the time. Civ 5 is a great tablet game and this computer runs it very well. Yes it is a bit heavy as a tablet, but propped up on a my lap while reclined, it is a non-issue.

If you take the plunge again, I hope it works out for you.

For display, I have had good luck with the Kanex iAdapt MDPHDMIV2

Amazon.com: Kanex iAdapt MDPHDMIV2 HDMI V2 - Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter with Audio Support: Electronics

For Ethernet I use Anker® Uspeed USB 3.0 to 10/100/1000
