I've tried to install this card last weekend on L421x, and Bluetooth is working perfectly but I cannot make WiFi work - adapter seems to be installed correctly but Windows (7 64bit ultimate) reports that 'there is a problem with driver' and failes to initialize the wireless interface :/

Just today I ordered one of these ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833106190) from Egghead for $32 - I will report back once I get it and have it installed.
Try going to Intel's site for the drivers you need - ( Intel Driver Update Utility) This utility seems to work very well for finding the correct drivers for Intel products.
Keep us advised...
Thanks
-
can you update about the wifi card?
-
I fired the XPS up and my Windows 7 OS found it and loaded the drivers. I then went out to Intel and loaded the latest drivers for the Bluetooth 4.0 and the Wireless AC...... it could not have been easier.
My in home wireless router only has 802.11n and I will be purchasing a new AC wap this week to take advantage of the new AC speed in my XPS.
For $32 it was a good investment for me.... Just let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Gordy -
what the effect on the wifi connection in the aspect of signal quality, range and Stability compare to the old one?
do you still have the famous dell xps 14/15 problems with the wifi connections? -
So far I am pleased with it and will not be putting the old one back in.Cursed. likes this. -
Hi guys, I apologise if this has been mentioned before but my search function isn't showing much
Does anyone have their XPS run extremely hot? CPU around 60% and Memory around 60%, the laptop runs incredibly loud and it is physically almost too hot to touch around the top of the keyboard
Any ideas what I should do? I understand that 60% CPU isn't ideal, but unfortunately that's what I'm getting when I play a game with Chrome open -
I am a newbie on this site,so please forgive me if this has already been covered! I replaced the 500gb spinner with a 256 SSD.
I have read over 90 of these pages ,but still havent gotten a comprehensive tutorial.
Could someone PLEASE give me a walk through on how to install win7 on the SSD and still use and see the mSATA for extra storage!
Thank you in advance, i am just not getting it on my own

Has anyone figured out a way to get newer graphics drivers on this device. WiDi isn't working correctly because 8.1 requires new Widi drivers and those drivers require a newer Intel video driver. If I install any drivers other than the dell ones I lose the ability to adjust brightness.
-
I tried this once or twice but it didn't work out, sadly. There's a whole bunch of files that need modification.

I have the XPS 14 except for the weight of the notebook I love it but I am having problems with the screen flickering I updated the drivers etc. still having the issue, anyone else having the same problem?
I had to get the ac adapter replaced it took a week to get one as it was on backorder my concern is will there be parts available to repair the system now that the notebook is discontinued? -
so I haven't posted or even visited here in awhile, largely b/c my XPS 14 has been super stable and even w/ the wireless issues, newer drivers got me acceptable performance w/ the stock 6235. I recently started thinking about an XPS 13 but all the 'coil whine' complaints made me decide to do some minor upgrades to the XPS 14 and keep it awhile longer to see how the XPS 13 issues play out.
Anyway...
I decided to try the Intel 7260 wireless due to a few comments in the XPS 15 (Ivy Bridge) thread and a couple here on the XPS 14. Has anyone actually gotten the Bluetooth part of the 7260 to work on an Ivy Bridge XPS (14 or 15). Wireless is/was much improved w/ the 7260, but had to swap back out to the 6235 as I really want/need Bluetooth.
Tried Intel drivers (intel.com), the Lenovo drivers suggested by a user in the XPS 15 thread, nothing seems to jump start them.
Any ideas? -
Yes, I'm using the AC 7260 with the xps14. I'm not sure if I can help though as the standard Intel drivers work for me (currently have the 17.0.5.8 version released in June). I have it paired with a Logitech bluetooth keyboard (and a Lumia phone intermittently) and it works perfectly. I also use the ac wireless band and get connection speeds of 866Mbps (I'm very close to the router though!)
Since you've tried using these drivers I don't really know what else to suggest that might help... -
Thanks for the response. I'll have to give it another try. Maybe something went amiss w/ my installation.
The network side of it just _worked_ upon booting up the first time (I actually installed new SSD drives and the 7260 and brought it up w/ a bootable Win 8.1 thumb drive). Upon first boot and filling in that initial Win 8 wireless connection screen, it connected to the internet...but once up, I don't think it had Bluetooth working. I subsequently installed (I thought) the Intel drivers as the first attempt.
I'll reinstall the card and see if I can grab the June (17.0.5.8) drivers and see what happens.
Thanks! -
BTW, are you running Win 7, 8, or 8.1? I'm running 8.1, maybe that's my ish.
Thanks! -
OK - that's really odd! Firstly, I should say that I'm running Windows 8.1 also, and that it was originally an in-place update to Windows 7 which kept software and settings etc. Not sure if that makes a difference.
I don't see anything at all in the systray customization panel relating to Bluetooth, which is a bit odd. However, I see lots of stuff in the device panel - image attached. TBH I don't really remember the complete set of steps that I went through to get everything working. After installing the card I mainly used it just for wi-fi for a while, but one day it occurred to me that I should use the BT function as well, and it just worked from the beginning.
I see that there's an updated version of the ProSet software for BT on Windows 8.1 released on the 15th August ( http://intel.ly/1wqJHuX) - maybe a clean install of that might help? But I'm clutching at straws really.
-
Ugh. This is a good one. Got me perplexed. But I shall not relent!!!
My system is a XPS 14 from Nov 2012. It now has dual Samsung EVO drivers (one standard, one mSATA), 8gb memory (upgraded), and this wireless card. Core i5. Integrated graphics (no NVidia or whatever the optional upgrade was as the time).
Thanks again for your help. If you think of anything else, please yell out. -
Is there any other machine that you could try out the 7260 BT with? That might help to narrow the problem down to a faulty card. -
Thanks for the idea. -
Good news Dell replaced my screen today and the flickering is gone thank goodness.
-
I just purchased an XPS 14 off of Craig'st List. There appear to be some smudges on the screen that I can't get rid off. They, in fact, may be behind the Gorilla Glass. Has anyone else encountered this issue? If so, is there a quick and easy fix?

hi guys i recently purchase this laptop and have noticed that the colors on the screen are a bit off.
anyone have any luck on making the screen look better? -
Yes. I used my Spyder to calibrate it. Still very dependent on viewing angles but the colors are much better. You should also make sure the "splendid" option is turned off.
-
Does anyone know if it is possible (and how) to pass higher than 1080p via HDMI? Thanks.
PS: it is a little dead here, but... -
Has anyone tried to update to Win10 already?
The drivers seem to be there already and I'd love to try some new graphics drivers after all

Thanks for letting me know!
So brightness control and the video driver were no issues? Great news!

Brightness control works as it should, and I use the NVidia drivers directly with no problem.
-
I have the same problem after 2 years haha.
-
No problem! I'll do that as soon as I get home.

Wow thanks.

the screen turns to red
-
Full red? My machine only has the Intel graphics but the screens should be the same, so the profile should "normally" work.
-
P/s: sorry for my bad English. I just wanna say that the screen had a red tone.Last edited: Sep 2, 2015 -
A red tone or full red? You should also make sure that the "vivid" option, or however Dell called it, is disabled.
The screen should be more red than before as the default-tone had too much blue. The calibration is far from perfect because of two things:
a) the screen is *very* dependant on viewing angles
b) I usually calibrate my screens to 120cdm, which is between two steps of brightness here. -
I couldn't find the vivid mode in the settings. I've tried to change the color setting from splendid mode to generic one but the screen had more red than before.
-
Ok, "splendid" was how they called it.
Yes, more red would be correct. Depending on the viewing angle you're looking at it a lot more red.
The sensor can only look at it straight, so if you're looking at an angle the picture would be better/different, but only correct at the right angle.

Ok, I just installed Win 10 last night and so far, the old "brightness" bug is back and haunting me.
The drivers that came with Windows didn't support brightness control, installing the Dell driver on top didn't work just as cleaning with DDU and installing afterwards did.
I turned off the automated driver install in between but it still doesn't do anything.
Is there anything that I need to know? Apart from that, 10 seems to work well. It feels a little slow still but I think that's down to the SSD being rather full and the system being fresh.

Sorry, I don't know the Brightness Bug, can not help there.
In terms of speed, it is on par with Win 8, which was better than Win 7 if I remember well. I'm also on SSD. -
So you are able tho change your brightness correctly? It never worked with other than Dell drivers with Win 8 and now I can't seem to get it working with 10, at all.
Von meinem iPhone gesendet. -
Very rarely I notice the screen less bright than 100%, normally after unplugging and plugging again the energy, but it is just a matter of unplugging and plugging again and pressing the Brightness controls on the Keyboard and brightness goes up again. Again, very rarely. And in whatever OS.
-
Mine doesn't move at all, the hotkey moves a slider but the brightness doesn't change. The slider is also colorless, while it was tinted blue for the "active" half when it worked in Win 8.

I'm gonna calibrate my built-in screen with a spyder 5. Should I disable the splendid color mode @Radical_53
-
Yes definitely. And try to set it to a brightness you're comfortable with, 120 or 150cdm usually.
It also helped me to do this when the room was as dark as possible.
