I believe Microsoft has stopped or severely cut back on 1809 deployments now that 1903 is around the corner, simply to avoid having users go through two major release updates essentially back to back. It's just needless additional inconvenience and risk. I'd just sit tight until 1903 becomes broadly available. You're not missing much by skipping out on 1809, but if you really want it, you can always manually download the Media Creation Tool direct from Microsoft, which despite the name you can use to perform an in-place upgrade rather than just creating install media.

I just performed a 1903 clean install on my system since I have access to MSDN where it's already available. I figured my system had been through several Windows 10 releases since my last clean install, so it was time. I also wanted to try out Windows Sandbox, which is pretty slick and handy even though I also use Hyper-V for full VMs.

Yep. No problems here (except for the !$%*! undeleteable file under Windows.old).

Ok, I just got a Dell popup to say a few things need to be updated.
One of them, was the BIOS - which it said to update to version A11.

Anyone out there update to A11 yet, and if so - any feedback on how it went ?
I'm afraid to try it - as it may just brick my 9530 (it is about due for a major issue one of these days, I just know it !).

Not sure how @jokkee could have installed A11 a year ago since it was released in Jan 2019 but anyway, I just installed it and no problems. Since it appears to only address yet more Intel security issues it probably does nothing but make your system slower. Yay ;-)

Probably right that A11 is a year old. Bios A12 is now out!

Just upgraded from a10 to a12.
My heart was pounding throughout the whole process.
It updated, then automatically did a shutdown.
My PC froze in the blue Microsoft shutdown screen.
I had to hard stop it by holding down the power button a few seconds.
Upon powering up, windows gave me the option to troubleshoot or restart.
    I chose to restart.
    Everything (seems) to be ok.

Dell's bios upgrades are the absolute worst nightmares out there.
I think I am pushing my luck every time I do a bios update.

I have replaced my battery twice now. They sure swell up fast, even with light use. Such crap parts. At least it still works fine, except for a vertical shadow down the right part of the 4K screen. I may look at the new 2020 xps15 soon, but am disappointed that it has an even smaller battery.

Mine is still going strong (knock on wood) have only had a issue with the battery once, got that changed a couple of years ago. Bought it in march 2014 and im still happy with this laptop. I do have a Samsung 850 EVO ssd.

They keys are a little bit sticky tho, spilled some soda on the laptop awhile ago, but it works.

I think im gonna wait for Tiger Lake before my next upgrade. I dont feel I need more speed then I have right now so im good, I bought this one so I could have a laptop that would last for some time. 6 years is kinda good.

My daughter uses our xps 15 9530 for online school. Runs latest Windows 10 x64 pro 20H2. Sometimes ear-piercing screeches occur during online meetings. Not sure if it is because of the old realtek sound driver. Both the latest driver from dell support and the one provided in windows are from 2015. Versions 7610 and 7628. Has anyone found a newer Realtek driver supporting Realtek ALC3661? For now I forced it back to Microsoft HD audio driver via Group Policy.

Obviously this laptop does (not) meet the lofty Microsoft hardware standards for Windows 11.
I know there are many ways to upgrade to Windows 11 anyway - even if the hardware is not supported.
Has anyone done this yet and if so - any issues - (other than the future risk of MS blocking you from receiving updates at some point) ?
