If there's a part shortage, until that's alleviated. If there's no part shortage, not long. Also it wouldn't be unusual to actually receive it before being notified that it had shipped.

Any idea when it'll go from Pre-production to in production? Mine's been stuck there for a week

I don't know if it was solved in this thread, but for the issue with Chrome's fuzziness (and other apps), has anyone tried going to Control Panel > Display > Adjust Resolution > Make Text and Other Items Larger or Smaller > and toggling "Let me choose one scaling level for all of my displays." (so that the box is checked)?
That may solve the issue? -

And now my bluetooth has completely disappeared. I used to work with my bluetooth mouse. Now I cannot find any bluetooth setting anywhere. It just disappeared from the control panel. My bluetooth device is working properly it says in device manager.
Anyone's got an idea on how to fix this?
Please do not say use the search function because that's completely useless in a thread this long (I tried) -

Strangily I solved it by unintstalling my bluetooth device in device manager. Then I ran this driver 9530_Network_Application_8MNTH_WN_3.1.1309.0390_A01 and chose remove. Suddenly my bluetooth started working again

Anyone got a pic of the UK keyboard please?

In response to jphughan's reply about the Close Lid option, which I appreciate, I'd like to ask clarifying questions... I have a new XPS 15 on it's way to me and I've also ordered the Dell 3.0 USB docking station. My desired setup, which I have now with an old Latitude and port replicator, is to when I come home, hook up my new XPS to my new USB docking station; power on; and use my external monitor, keyboard, and mouse with the XPS lid closed. My questions are: 1) To connect to the USB docking station, I have to connect via the USB cable and then power on the laptop with the lid open in order to hit the power button, correct? 2) Assuming that is the case, to then close the lid of the laptop such that it looks cleaner on my desk and make use of the external monitor, I need to set the Close Lid option to Do Nothing don't I to keep it from going to sleep/hibernating? 3) And I need to set the output device to the external monitor as instructed, but then the laptop will actually notice when it's docked to this external monitor again and therefore intelligently switch to this setting? And when not connected to the docking station it will make use of the XPS screen?
I appreciate any steps as I'm looking for instructions on how to set up the XPS with the USB docking station such that I can work at home with the XPS lid closed and obviously do the docking and undocking with as much ease as possible. Thanks... -
The only additional note is that while the laptop will switch the display configuration when you dock and undock, it can't entirely switch SCALING on the fly, so you may have to log off and back on when docking/undocking as well.

As for the issue you're describing, a picture would be helpful. -
jphughan, thanks... I got it... As far as the scaling, this makes sense... Normally, i actually turn off the laptop to undock and then power on after i dock. As such, this should address scaling. The intelligently switching between docked and undocked is what I wasn't expecting. Pretty darn smart...
The only other question is about my setting the Close Lid option to Do Nothing. I'd like to have the ability, when running on battery, to still sleep/hibernate when i close the lid. But in your previous reply, and i've seen this in other replies, it is mentioned to set the Close Lid option to Do Nothing on BOTH battery and plugged in. However, this isn't necessary in my application, correct? If I'm going to be only closing the lid and running the external monitor while docked, then I wouldn't have to set the Close Lid option to Do Nothing when on battery too, correct? Thanks again. -

Regarding scaling in Linux: since the native resolution of this display is so high, I find that there is no noticeable blurriness at other resolutions. It's like the old days of CRT monitors! I've tried running the screen at 1920x1080, and it looks great. I wanted a little more screen real estate so I am now running at 2048x1152, which I find excellent. By selecting the resolution that best corresponds to the font size I can handle, I don't have to worry about any scaling issues.
The 2048x1152 resolution wasn't a default option. I followed the instructions here: Add new screen resolution in Linux Mint - Linux Mint Community to add it. The only difference is that the screen is called eDP1.tuntu likes this. -

Here is a picture of the gap I was talking about. Its annoying because you can easily see it while using the laptop. If I am going to receive a used panel I would be pissed because of the $2400 spent on it. Again the issue appears to be a lack of adhesive where the display meets the aluminum frame. Its within the 21 or 30 day return policy but I want to keep the computer.
-What would the recommendations be of this forum regarding this issue?
-If the panel is replaced would this contribute towards any degradation of the hinge in the future as they seem to be one unit?
Thanks,
Jesse -
Or if you've JUST recently gotten the machine, you can try asking for a replacement system, which would be entirely new, though that could take quite a bit longer and obviously be more effort since you'd have to set up your system from scratch again. Dell allows no questions asked system exchanges for issues like this that are reported within a certain time of receiving the system, but I'm not sure what the cutoff time period is for that. -
Can someone tell me if they'll be any new sales anytime soon from Dell?
Also, is it worth buying from Costco? -
Other than aerojex, has anyone else seen this? I seem to recall the suggestion given to him was to not call Dell, that they could do more harm than good, and maybe try to fix it yourself could be better.
PS. The coil whine is always there. Whenever I scroll a page, or when the CPU is working (compressing files, etc). It's like a very very noisy hard drive.
PS2. All in all, I really love the laptop. It's amazing. -
Hey everyone. Little update on my new XPS 15 (Haswell). I opened up my new laptop and removed the old thermal paste and cleaned the heatsinks very well and then applied some new paste (Gelid Extreme) and put it back together. This shaved off on average 7-10 Celsius on the CPU and GPU. Also, the fans seem to not work as hard and create that loud noise and they don't run as much. I experienced some coil whine recently when doing various tasks on it and doing this made a difference. Wont eliminate it, but definitely a big improvement! Figured I would share this with everyone.

Hello all,
I recently spilled a drink on my lapop keyboard and touchpad... I saw that it was spill resistant.. is this true? am I in danger? it was basically half a cup -
It's spill resistant? No idea, and I hope not to test, but if its still working lucky you! -
-
What does recently mean? If it's still working it sounds like you're safe.

So, can anyone tell me what disadvantages I have from purchasing it from the Costco Online Wholesale store?
Also, does anyone have any EPP coupons or anything I can add to help reduce the price? -
So you should panic.
Liquids can also cause damage months after the spill as anything other than water will cause corrosion. -

I have a month old ASUS UX51VZ that I upgraded from a 2012 HP Envy. I haven't been impressed thus far with the system in comparison with the Envy. I am very drawn to the new XPS 15, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with both this system and the Asus that I already own. I got a great deal on the Asus ($1600) for an open box so I jumped on the deal when I would normally do a 2 week search. Go ahead and sell me on the system more than notebookcheck did.

Will this void my warranty? I assume it will, but could Dell every find out? -

Hi, new poster.
Ordered mine (middle spec, can't afford the full SSD, despite wanting the big battery), on 2nd Feb, was told it'd be 7-10 working days during order, and then got a message saying 24th March!
Looking online at the sales page it's saying 17th March as the estimated ship date.
Can I realistically expect to receive it before either of those dates? I've nearly cancelled and ordered an MSI GS70 several times (I've told dell this and they don't seem bothered), but I've decided to stick with my guns. I think I'm making the right choice but the wait is going to kill me.king1153 likes this. -
Right now, my order says March 18, but I feel your pain...the wait is also going to kill me!!! -
I thought I was doing well with the 15% VIP discount. Any chance it's a multi-use one? -
Also, I found it on the Microsoft Store - http://www.microsoftstore.com/store...947sLV-Touchscreen-Laptop/productID.288730000 - Worth ordering from there? -
-
Also, how long did it take to reach you? -
