You may be right, I was comparing desktop cards. There is zero confirmed information on the Quadro P1000 Notebook version.
The P1000 desktop beats the GTX 1050 desktop because it has Double the VRAM @ 4 GB and ~90 mhz higher boost clock. Only the base clock is lower by 24 mhz

Techpowerup does list the boost clock is slightly higher on the p1000 (1480mhz vs 1455mhz) but the memory clocks are way down (1253mhz vs 1752mhz). The 1050 in the xps has 4gb. My guess is the notebook variant of the p1000 will be just like the desktop, but if anything I bet it's slower in gaming than the 1050. -
This Reddit guy got terrible thermals on the 2-in-1 but claimed excellent results with a -0.135 undervolt, both reduced temps and reduced throttling. It seems his results are from his gaming (vs. popular benchmarks).

So wait the Vega M chip is only as good as a 1050?
-
custom90gt Doc Mod Super Moderator
The low power Vega GL is 10% or so faster than the 1050. That's with a 65W package power for the CPU and GPU. I don't think that's too shabby.
The GH is more like a 1060 Max-Q or so. -
ThatOldGuy Notebook Virtuoso
I wonder if the Vega G series will be overclockable? -
mrkingdomheartsboy Notebook Enthusiast
Ah okay thought the one in the XPS was a GH chip.
Wonder if any laptops will use it? -

Nothing in a light and thin platform due to the 100w. -

Well, Notebook check published their review. The CPU clocks seem firmware limited, but thermals a very good compared to the HP
Unfortunately they did not test the 4K model, and the 1080P panel they use has junk color reproduction and heavy ghosting

Just noticed that dell has a black color option with 2tb SSD. I am going to forgo the waiting for 32gb and purchase this option.

The starting price of the XPS 2 in 1 is now dropped to $1300. Must be struggling to sell it vs. the competition?

Nah, I think it's marketing. I think they released a lower priced version after the initial release.

I think Dell is crazy to think they can charge so much for it. The fact that there aren't any user reviews on it also shows that...

Guess I am going to guniea pig it. and not the 1300 dollar version either!

I welcome you to, at it's current pricing I'll probably switch to HP. I worry Dell is going the way of the apple. -
Still Hundreds and Hundreds less than a macbook that has inferior hardware, software, no touchscreen, no pen support, no 2 in 1 form factor etc. They (Dell), have a LONG LONG way to go before they get to the rip off that is apple computers.
-
custom90gt Doc Mod Super Moderator
Not much of a difference anymore considering you can get a 15" i7 macbook pro for $1600 from bestbuy. Dell is already there asking customers to bend over and grab their ankles...
Just thought I would check the price on the model with 16GB of ram and 4k and this is what I get for the 9575 - $2,199.99. That is out of control. It's $700 more than the HP. Don't get me wrong, I like dell but there is no way I could justify the price for this right now. I'll keep my eye on the Outlet to see if I can get a deal, but we will see...Last edited: Apr 28, 2018improwise, ThePerfectStorm and Atma like this. -
I compared the two computers using dell Canada and apple Canada. The dell is cheaper. I can get a xps 15 2 in 1 for 1999 cdn as well. But it's not comparing apples to apples. Pardon the pun...Intended.
Apple macbook pro 15 inch with silly rinky touchbar 1 tb of drive space, 16 gb of ram, i7 processor and so on. Price? 4179.00 Cdn.
Dell XPS non 2 in 1 (the actual competitor to the MBP 15) same specs, but has pen, touch and so on. Price? 2999.00 Cdn.
Dell XPS 2 in 1 (mops up the macbook with features etc. Spec'ed the "same" but has way way more functionality, performance with new processor and video combination. Price? 3999.00 cdn -
custom90gt Doc Mod Super Moderator
You know it's fanatics like you that allow Apple and now Dell the ability to charge whatever they want right?
While I do appreciate the features of the 2-in-1, that doesn't mean it mops the floor with the MBP since most people don't need the 2-in-1. Also the new processor and video combination has plenty of problems right now... But hey at least both the MBP and the XPS thermal throttle, that's one spec they both have down. The XPS 9550 and 9560 were a great value, but now with Dell charging $1799 US for a base model with 16GB of ram, they have lost their appeal to me. The HP with the same specs is $400 cheaper with a better screen. I won't continue to argue because you've proven time and time again that you can't see anything but visions of Dell dancing in your head. The only way Dell will get my cash is if they offer a hell of a deal on the 9575 in the outlet. I sold my 9560 yesterday and am ready to purchase something new but right now HP is the better value.
*on edit*
Trust me, I'd love to be the first to do another undervolt/repaste observation post for the 9575, but not at the expense of $400...Last edited: Apr 29, 2018improwise, Starlight5 and ThePerfectStorm like this. -
I didn't say YOU don't go buy an HP.....I said, the dell is a better deal than the macbook. simple. Im not arguing...I am stating facts. simple. Enjoy the HP as i am sure it's awesome. Me, I will buy the dell. The main reason is I get financing through my business, so thats a major plus why I will choose the dell. If I were buying and paying right up front for it, I would buy the surface book 2 hands down. No fanatic here my friend. Also, Im not sure if it's like it on HP US site, but I can only get 1 configuration of the x360 in Canada. A 16 gb 512gb version. I am buying the 2 tb version of the xps 15 2 in 1 as I do alot of design work, and want to save Alot of things on my device so I have them for clients.
Again, I am not a "fanatic". Although I do call out bull crap on here alot when I see it.Last edited: Apr 29, 2018 -
Yes. They are all awesome. I still like my choice.
-
quick question, do All of these do VR/AR ?
-
ThatOldGuy Notebook Virtuoso
No. Only the GTX 1060 and higher is rated for VR. And the GTX 1060 in the Surface Book is underpowed + combined with ULV CPU. In reality a GTX 1060 + Desktop CPU can barely do VR.
That being said, it of course depend son the APP as well. I'm sure all of them could run the basic VR Koi fish pond kind of stuff. -
Can you hook up an external GPU to any or all of them? To run it?
ThatOldGuy likes this. -
ThatOldGuy Notebook Virtuoso
No for sure on the Surface Book. It has no Thunderbolt, and it's USB C will not have enough bandwidth to run eGPU + VR eqiptment
For the HP and Dell, I do not know. Intel G has not been tested with eGPU yet as far as I am aware.kojack likes this. -

Well I broke down and purchased the 9575 with an i5 and only 8gb of ram. I figure I'll give it a shot and see how I like it. If something comes up in the outlet before my return period is over then I'll return and re-order. The HP is a great value, but I need more than 6 hours of battery life...
-
You never got the 4k screen then?
-
I know the windowscentral crew successfully ran a GPU off a book 1. There was a hack, and I don't know how good it ran, but it ran. I am thinking with the dell, seeing as it has tb3, I should be able to regardless....with some "help" maybe, but it should do it.ThatOldGuy likes this.

custom90gt Doc Mod Super Moderator
No, I see no point in a 4k screen with a 15" laptop aside from the better color accuracy. I couldn't deal with 6 hours of battery life either. I got the cheapest model dell offers, they are out of their minds if they think I would spend $200 to go from a 128gb ssd to a 256gb, lol. This laptop will likely be returned however, I don't think I can deal with 8gb of ram... -
There is the odd dynamic where computer firms are selling systems with less ram (due to huge inflation on RAM prices) and software firms offer increasingly bloated products.
I have a system with 4GB and that is a dog even for internet surfing due principally to RAM shortage.
8GB is barely enough right now for a lot of users but it is right on the limit. Won't be enough soon enough. -
custom90gt Doc Mod Super Moderator
I just think Dell sees an opportunity to pull an Apple and charge an arm and a leg to go up to 16GB of ram. Even in the new 9570 the price to go to 16GB is more reasonable, but that unit is likely user upgradeable unlike the 9575.
-
Dell is trying to pull an Apple for sure. Don't know what competitive advantages Dell offer on a commodity-open PC platform lol.
That said, RAM price inflation is killing hardware firms. As an example, 32GB HyperX 2400 RAM cost me about $140 winter 2016. That is $367 on newegg today.Atma likes this. -
Exactly, Ram prices have increased ALOT, therefore...we, as customers have to pay. Either way I am willing to for the top spec 15 2/1. I see it as a business purchase.
-
custom90gt Doc Mod Super Moderator
Ram prices have been fairly stable for the past 12 months (high but stable) and computer manufactures have always charged 2x what it costs to go from 8gb to 16gb...
Dell is sticking it to customers with the 9575 for sure. More than the RAM market accounts for. -

That is a comprehensive review.
You can see the i7 power limit throttling (which may just be a heat throttle). So a repaste-undervolt might help the i7 perform. . .Atma likes this. -

The 4K Screen is certainly much better than the 1080p in color spaces. The brightness and contrast is great too. To bad you have to get the i7 to get 4KAtma likes this. -
uhhh I can't think of any way this is possible. Please link.

I will have to dig deep. But I know they did it. I think it was using the dock and a reg. hack.

Give me a day or so, I am very busy with work. I know they used a 1st Gen Surface book connected to a Razer GPU. I just have to hunt down the article. Daniel did it.
