Try calling... you might have better luck... there was 10% off XPS...not sure its still going on...and some higher models were even more $$$ off... I got on chat and they gave me $100 off instantly...Join the member purchase program or have a student EDU account and you'll get 2% off which was $24 for me...then my company gives 5% off so all in all I got $175 off... not too bad.

Yeah I may call, don't want to waste an hour on the phone though. I've purchased a ton of XPS systems so I know the discount game, however the HP Omen was $1246 bucks for 512GB NVME, 16GB ram, 2 year warranty, etc. The XPS is no where near that price, even with all the discounts out there... -

Do you guys have all the Dell power command stuff installed or no?
Dell Command | Power Manager
Dell Command | PowerShell Provider
Dell Command | Configure
Dell Command | Deploy XPS MLK 9560 Windows 10 Driver Pack
What about other Dell applications? Dell Premier Color? Dell Foundation Services?
Wondering what I need since I have to load it on my m.2 drive once I swap out the original drives for my m.2... -
I only use Dell Command | Power Manager. It gives you some BIOS access to fan & power that is useful.Philaphlous likes this.
-
Does Dell have a restocking fee? My understanding was they did not.
-
I used power command once, settings remain after you uninstall it FYI
Premier colour is good, I use that.
Don't bother with the rest.
May or may not be country specific but no not in the UK. -
OK, it seems like XPS has a fair number of QC issues, but as long as they will let me endlessly return them without penalty that's ok with me. I can't tolerate any screen issues out of the box.
-
What sort of fan control do you get? Temp limits on the fan? etc????
-
Do anyone experience that the fans start up whenever a USB plug is in or charger cord are in (even if it is fully charged), or Dell Adapter | USB Type-C to HDMI / VGA / Ethernet / USB 3.0 and TB 16 of the XPS 15 9560?
Will the computer still work if you disconnect the battery connector to the motherboard? (If used more as a desktop PC)? -
Dell Command | Power Manager has a thermal management pane with 4 settings that adjust fans and processor heat management:
- Optimized
- Cool
- Quiet
- Ultimate Performance
I think this is done in BIOS via settings you can only access via " Dell Command | Power Manager". Lots of places to adjust power management in Windows (Power Options, BIOS, XTU, Power Manger...)
As GoNz0 notes, you can make settings then delete the program and the settings stick (well not sure after a BIOS update so I just keep it installed). -
It stays after a bios update. Only a bios default will clear it.

Would you have gone for the 4K if both had touch? As soon as you start using stuff like Remote Desktop etc it can be a pain in the ass with scaling.
-
I had the impression that the 4K had higher brightness than the FHD but from reviews I've seen, they seem to have the same brightness (or about the same), true?
I get the feeling that many who opt for the 4K panel hasn't really compared it to the FHD in the XPS15 (which seem to be really good compared to other laptops) but more to other poorer screens. Anyone that has actually compared it themselves IRL? -
DPC is intended for manual switching of color profiles with non-color-managed programs or untagged content. With a wide-gamut display such as the UHD you'd typically see oversaturated colors with the "normal" (wide gamut native) profile.
If you use color-managed programs for everything, you don't need it.
You can install the color profiles supplied in the DPC program folder to the Windows CM folder, install them, and switch among them from Windows CM. Riddance of one startup program. -
Does the XPS15 still have this crazy "automatic brightness" nonsense that XPS had a few years ago that could not be disabled?
Does the XPS 15 charger fit the XPS 13 also? I guess the XPS13 has lower power requirements but if the XPS15 PSU fits I guess it automatically provides the correct power? -
Thankfully the projects I've been working with lately haven't used RDC.. but I do need to try that now that you mention it... I'm also curious to see what happens when I present something through skype for business or google hangouts.. (if it's crazy huge or crazy tiny...) I suspect it'll be crazy huge..... first time to try that out should come up this week...
But otherwise, if the FHD had touch, I would've gotten that... (that's what I would've gotten with a 7520 if I had waited and decided to not travel quite so lightly)
-
And this is true for both FHD and 4K? If I remeber correctly, a fix was released for 4K only but I havr been out the loop for a while...
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
The initial flicker fix was for the FHD but that totally fekked up the 4k until the last BIOS.
the 9550/9560 never had automatic brightness, the 9530 did but you could turn that off or customise it, I miss that!
You must be thinking about the thing the xps13 had iirc? -
I think I've seen adaptive brightness somewhere, maybe Advanced power options or BIOS?
I never dared try it because xps 13 folks were complaining about not being able to turn off.
I recall Dell PremierColor also messed with brightness, much better since uninstalled
-
It's in advanced power options but doesn't do anything on this laptop due to the lack of ambient sensor. God knows why they removed it for the 9550/9560 as it worked really well with a reg tweak

AFAIK, it only worked on the QHD version of the XPS13. At least that was the message I got when trying to disable it via the patch on my XPS13 2015.

Dells gtx 1050 driver is finally available again.

Thanks. Have you tried them?
And... after i have had the 9560 the first thing i have did was a fresh installation so,
what kind of Dell applications is useful to install? -
Latest from the nvidia site dated Jan works ok for me.
-
Will the 4K Screen version fit the smaller 56Whr battery since it is not a Customizable option on 9650/5520? but is available on the 9550 with 4K screen.
-
Yes the screen has nothing to do with the mainboard/chassis or battery compartment so any of them will fit
-
And so i received my new xps 9560 with fingerprint sensor (i still have the older one but i've to send it back...bright pixel problem) ... Where should i start? Well, the buttons on the right side of the keyboard are a little bit lower than the other, i can't see the backlit from my normal potion, i do not know if it's a keyboard problem or if the new palmrest is less accurate than the older one ... also the left side of the trackpad is a little lower than that on the other side ... the calibration of the display is very different but this one does not have black or bright pixels, the backlight bleeding is not so much... the battery model reported on hwinfo is different from the old one, this one has 96900 whr capacity with 1.2% of wear (the old one has 9.9% wear) ... there is also the slower toshiba ssd XG4 (1.6GB / s - 1.2GB / s) .. .the screen opening angle is greater on the new one, i do not know how this could be possible....i'm very disappointed from dell, i gave them another chance, but i think that i will send back both devices and will buy something else.

Sorry to hear that your replacement 9560 has the slower SSD and some keyboard/trackpad alignment issues.
Was the ony problem with the original laptop a dead pixel? If so, you could swap the good panel into the old laptop (or tell Dell to send a tech to do that). That way you keep the fast SSD. There is a PDF service manual on the interwebs.
Refitting the keyboard and trackpad require a lot of disassembly. -
No fingerprint reader on the original though
I would be asking for another replacement
-
yes, the only problem was the stuck pixel and an annoying red tint on the right side of the panel. I don't know if it's normal the 10% wear of the battery... Another annoying problem on both xps is that on flat surfaces when the screen is open the front right side of the notebooks is raised by a few mm... is it easy to swap the panels?
you're right, but if the fingerprint reader brings this problem....it's better the non fp version lol
unfortunately Dell italy won't give you a replacement for these problems...i had to buy the new one with my own money and i'm a student so it's not easy for me to spend all this money :/Last edited: Feb 21, 2017pressing likes this. -
The one I have here seems fine build wise, no excuse for bad quality either way
-
That battery sensor is only a very rough estimate so may not mean anything
Check the two long rubber bottom feet are properly adhered. You might also check the bottom cover is properly tightened with the T5 and cross screws. Else, you seem to have two warped laptops. My XPS sits very well on the desk with "zero wobble". That would irritate me.
I am not a tech and think it is pretty easy. Look at the PDF and decide how you feel about it.
You need to complain louder to Dell service as this is not acceptable... -
So it means that i'm really unlucky
if they'll send me a replacement it's ok, but i can't give them another 1.6 k € :/
Ok for the battery, the strange thing is that the battery codes on Hwinfo are different, and also the designed capacity...
Yes, the feet are properly adhered and the screws are properly tightened....also some of my friends with the 9550 have got this problem....It drives me crazy :/
I'll check on the PDF , and i can also try to call the premium support asking for help...but i don't know if they would do the swap...
They told me that they will send a replacement only if after three repair attempts the technician cannot fix the problem ..lol...stupid rules.. -
I wonder if they are using new batteries due to the chip issue?
Mind posing the hardware readouts for both batteries?
FYI Aida64 has a new beta with the 9560 sensor fix.
Tell them the laptop looks beyond reasonable (highlight reasonable to them) repair and you refuse to spend this much money for a top of the line premium product to have a brand new laptop totally dismantled with the possibility of refurbished parts being used as they wont guarantee new!
I did this and got my way
-
What chip issue?
-
this is the problem with the base of the xps https://vid.me/ra7i
Give me few mins and i'll post all the readouts!
Perfect! Tomorrow morning i'll try to call them and see if they will give me a replacement!
Battery readouts added at the end of the page http://imgur.com/a/kWJHL (sorry for the quality but it should be enough XD)Last edited: Feb 21, 2017 -
Mine does that wobble thing ( I think only a mm or so).. but I only checked because you mentioned it... I think it might have something to do with the pattern of tightening the screws for the base.. I may try tomorrow to loosen all of the outer screws, turn it back over so it's flat on a table and see.. if it's level when I do that, then I know it's something with the alignment or just tightening everything too much on one side vs the other...
-
For those of you with the 4K 9560, have you compared the image quality between setting DPI scaling to 200% at 4K resolution and setting DPI scaling to 100% at reducing the resolution to 1080? Is there noticeable difference? Does it affect battery life?
Thanks for the input! -
I received my 2nd XPS 15 9560 today and I am blown away by how nice the 4k screen is vs the FHD. My first one which ended up having a bright pixel was the i7, 16gb, 512gb, FHD model and the new one I went with is the i5, 8gb, 256gb, 4k with the finger print reader. There is a part of me that wishes I went with the i7 4k, but I really only need it for office type work and the occasional game when I am away from home. I unfortunately lost the SSD lottery though as mine has the Toshiba instead of the Samsung.....All in all I am pretty happy so far and am very glad I chose the 4k for this one. Now I just need to convince myself that I do not need the i7 haha.

Also I received my replacement laptop (first one had coil whine) and I am 99% sure the coil whine is gone when I use the new power supply. Coil whine also appears on the replacement with the old power supply.
Old power supply was model HA130PM130 (coil whine) and the new model DA130PM130 (no coil whine).Last edited: Feb 22, 2017pascaladjaero and pressing like this. -
My original had coil whine too when plugged in, but I did not check the model number on the power supply. The new one does not have this issue and it is the same DA130PM130 that you have now.
-
Hello, please how does 4k down to 1080p looks like for you in games? Is it just my model that 1080p on my 4k in games looks awfully blurry? I thought since 4k is 2x of 1920x1080 it wouldn't make such a difference, but its like day and night when comparing it to my 1080p on my FHD.

Do you guys think they will offer a 1TB SSD FHD configuration any time soon?

@GoNz0 I called the customer care and the only options are to send back both the xps or to send back one and repair the other...damn Dell...
Have you got new info on the new battery? -
f**k em then, send them back and make sure you are jumping all over CS for the refund the minute it is collected and trackable!pressing and Undervolt92 like this.

Yeah, i'll try to get the refund as soon as possible... Now i don't know if i should buy again a new 9560 or choose another brand :/
