Dell chat rep claimed to me that Dell has now fixed all the various driver related issues people are reporting in this thread. Is that 100% a lie and a total joke or are they frequently making efforts to rectify the issues related to the new release?
Any tips when ordering to try to get the preferred Samsung SSD? It sounds like almost everyone is getting the Toshiba now?
Finally, why on earth can you not get a 1TB SSD with a FHD configuration? What could there reason be to not allow that combination? It's not like 1TB of space is that much.
On a totally unrelated note, I have one strange question. If I have to have the laptop delivered to someone else that isn't that used to computers, what is the best way to have them check that everything is okay? Is there a way for me to remote control the laptop from an early stage or is there a lot of stuff that needs to be done before you can remote access it? Are coil whine and screen issues the main things I should be stressing to have them inspect with the hardware or is there more?
Sorry for so many questions. I'm hoping to order soon.

In regard to the 1TB SSD m.2 NVMe, here is a link to the NBR Marketplace where I have my new 1TB up for grabs from my AW 17R4. -

Just ran NAIS Benchmark... it tests the memory speeds... and capacity...interesting...
It only finds 3.3GB of VRAM memory on the machine...
Looks like 3.328GB is the max VRAM capacity. This is a whole fiasco with the GTX970 all over again...what the... -

Guys I am unable to find 2560x1440 option in display options of my 4k panel. Am I missing something? What drivers you all are using for Monitor (Generic PnP Monitor version 10.0.14393.0), Intel drivers are 4590.

Since my clean install even with the Dell audio drivers I have nothing related to maxxaudio, anyone found a way around this?

Thanks for the replies guys. Is there any kind of step by step walk through on what a new 9560 owner should do to check that the laptop has arrived in good condition or is it just to try to use it and see that things are running smoothly? How are the drivers out of the box? I mean do you need to do anything manually or is it possible the laptop works well from the start?
Also, any comment on any of these questions:

the recent realtek drivers included by Dell are decent (much better than the horrific earlier ones) -
Pressing, the latest drivers are the ones I used to make my ISO, did you install those and find no trace of maxx?
(just uninstalled audio and drivers via device manager and updated via WU, maxx is back)Last edited: Mar 14, 2017pressing likes this. -

Well I just received my 1080p laptop today and it has what I would call really bad screen issues.
Its not backlight bleed, its where the screen seems to be pinched by the chassis as I can move it. This is with screen on 50% brightness.
Also while typing this, my keyboard is extreme laggy and missing keypresses. Very disappointed

Video of the screen
My 2013 MacBook pro, same test but 100% backlight brightness.

But what about if you actually use the SED built into the device (even though eDrive isn't), would that mean that you have to enter the key every time you boot? Maybe that isn't to bad if you like me only do actual boot maybe once a week or something like that.
On a side not, is it possible to use BitLocker with the fingerprint reader instead of a password? Unless you encrypt the entire system disc that is (in case which I assume it works even though I have never tried). -

The screen is another story... -

In general with my experience with both the 9550 and 9560 I have noticed that the quality of the 9560 has decreased and hardware quality has decreased too. -

I also noticed, while going to import a photo to show dell, that the SDcard reader doesn't seem to be properly aligned and I couldn't insert the SDcard unless I poked a corner of it into one side, slid across to make the gap wider and then finally insert. Not goodpressing likes this. -

Is this good advice for going through a new XPS or would you change/add anything? I think some here don't quite realize how overwhelming much of the discussion here can feel to people not used to troubleshooting driver issues and stuff like that. It's obviously totally fine that you do it, but for those of us not entirely sure what is going on, it's good to get a basic walk through of how to go analyze a new XPS and take it from there.
He also recommends formatting to a fresh install of Windows. Are there any downsides to doing this for the average user? Will drivers and updates still happen automatically after a fresh install or do you lose Dell's side of automatic updates?Last edited: Mar 14, 2017 -

No, seriously, with computers I find that ignorance is bliss. Me and other OCD people in here might have a good hang of drivers, hardware etc but I doubt that we are actually happier than "average Joe" who's PC might work half as good as ours but still Joe is happier than we are.Last edited: Mar 14, 2017 -

Here you guys go! Now that you know where the monsters are....CCHHAARRGGEEE!!!
After running through varies tests, I'm getting really close to finding the right combo.
Note: It's not about lining the bottom randomly with thermal pads, as that will only block air flow and make things actually warmer.
Special shout out to @pressing, for being just a cool guy and fun to bounce ideas around with... all them late night discord brainstorming sessions haha... Great stuff mate.Last edited: Mar 18, 2017improwise, DazedNConfused, Alias and 3 others like this. -
Great photo iUnlock!
Provides some good data to think about solving thermals once and for all.
You can see heat being transferred from underneath components at the motherboard, effectively making some components heatsinks (like the chokes).
Look at the temp difference between the vram at the bottom vs top right (54-66*C)! Part of that is due to the vrm. Part is due to lousy random 3-screw heatsink.iunlock likes this. -

Here is his walk through on a fresh install of Windows on his XPS 15. What do you guys think? So he basically loads it on a USB, and once the clean Windows is installed, he adds Dell Update and Premiere Color. Is that it? Is there anything more to do? Any problems you run into with this method? Do you recommend it as well? -
Update:
Note: Do not upload that graphics driver from Dell. It's rubbish.
Here is the one that you want:
I use the July 2016 edition for the Windows 10 recovery ....
Once that is all set and one, I've cherry picked the drivers to install.
Also use O&O to block (er at least let's hope so) all the M$ telemetry crap...
Then use CCleaner to delete all M$ Virus...yes including photo, mail etc... yea even solitaire. lol..
Hold on let me find my recent post on this and I'll copy/paste it here for you.
Update:
Here is the link to my post on the Windows 10 forum.Last edited: Mar 15, 2017 -

Well reading that thread was extremely disturbing. I had no idea Microsoft was uploading all private info on your personal computer? I don't see any discussion on here about using Win 7 on the XPS 9560.
Anyone else here have any comments on the video I linked? -
hmm...so something strange on my machine...
I've tried to enable the AHCI and it appears its not working properly...
I follow this guide --> https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/22631-ahci-enable-windows-8-windows-10-after-installation.html
and after I reboot its back in the IDE mode or whatever the iastoV is... anyone know of specific BIOS boot options I should be aware of? I think I have it in the "legacy" mode with AHCI enabled....
