My ISo is basically the signiture edition without having to add anything except the latest nvid
Why do it the hard way?

Boot to safe mode, reboot to safe mode again but go into the BIOS and swap raid to AHCI, let it boot into safe then reboot back to windows.
Being in safe mode gets around the BSOD you would normally get.

Unless your install is a little messed up then it won't work.

GonZ0, what do you think about the signature edition walk through or the idea of going about it in that way in general for a more average user? (I've had to reformat before so it wouldnt be a total first but still somewhat intimidating). I don't know what ISo stands for but I'm guessing you are a great person to ask for what you think an average user should do when receiving a new 9560.

I'd also like to know what you think about the other poster basically saying Win10 is an enormous privacy intrusion where Microsoft collects all your data.

I tried the registry hack...apparently 0 means active and 3 means disable...didn't know that...but anyway. Tried to reboot and got the wonderful BSOD "Inaccessible boot device"... thankfully I had a restore point from yesterday...saved me...whew. Strange thing is bios has AHCI enabled.... I don't see the AHCI controller in device manager though...

Whops...think I messed up. It appears it's been running AHCI all this time... I guess it falls under Intel 100/200 series AHCI driver in device manager...not the Microsoft generic AHCI driver...ok now I think I got it...my SSD scores are darn good too so why bother...

Didn't watch the video as I don't need to waste a few minutes of my life watching what I don't need to know :)
My ISO is a bare build probably identical to the signature edition with all the drivers needed apart from one that is pulled from windows update once online (Didn't take much notice tbh as it flashed off and installed as soon as I opened device manager) NTlite said I had all the drivers needed but I guess one didn't fancy installing. I also look the decision to include the Samsung NVMe 2.1 driver and it did pick that over the Microsoft one, needless to say it ignored the Toshiba driver as that has to be forced for the XG4 SSD
Intel AHCI/Raid are the latest version 15 as Dell still use 14 (it was 13 last year, way older than needed)
It's up to the user what they install after that.

And to the tin foil hat brigade I also wave a huge "don't care" banner :)
Every electronic smart device tracks what you do, it is part of life. If you wish to go down the path of disabling everything you can find lots of guides and tools.

Sorry but I have better things to do than worry about windows knowing I like Morrisons tin foil over Tesco although it did let me know my favorite rum was on offer so thumbs up... :p

I guess when you hit your 40's you don't let the little things worry you.

    Haha, a doh moment :)

Not sure - you might try to speak directly to sell-guy to order Samsung SSD.
Concerning Toshibas: I heard it was used mainly for 1TB drives .. but recently I got mine 9560 with 0.5TB Toshiba inside :E

Good work. I wanted to do this but got impatient and don't really have a ton of free time to do so. I figured after using small pads to cover the VRM that I was still getting really high VRM temps...those tiny VRM at the top of the board that are in the 80's also deliver power. I'm not sure why they get so hot but on my old GTX670 they had the same components that were under the heatsink... once I added a larger thermal pads to the entire area is when I saw massive temp drops...

I just picked up my new 9560 at microcenter a few days ago and thought I would share my experience. After reading about all the issues I wanted to pick one up locally for easy return if there were any deal breakers. Luckily Microcenter had them on sale for $1599. This is a MS Signature edition with i7-7700HQ, 16GB, 512GB SSD, 4k display, Win 10 Home. We had some of the usual issues with flakey wifi and laggy trackpad but after all driver and BIOS updates this laptop is looking good so far.

Screen is perfect, temps are good while gaming, and it came with the Samsung SSD. This deal was hot on Slickdeals last week and many people reported getting the Sammy SSD so I'm guessing that MC got a batch that were manufactured while the samsung ssd was still available. MC still has the 1TB version for $1899 online but if you want the 512GB you'll have to look for it locally. At my Denver MC they are still in stock. Sale is supposed to run though 3/20.

Wow, that's $200 cheaper than a nearly identical one I ordered a couple of days ago on the Dell website (I think the only difference is the fingerprint reader). The MicroCenter near me has them for the same price. I wonder if it is possible to either cancel the order or get Dell to price match... it's really weird to have a brick-and-mortar store charge less than it costs straight from the manufacturer.

Can someone plz tell me what the point of the white light on the charger is? At first I thought Dell had copied Apples chargers, but if so, they forgot about the part where it changes color to indicate stuff :)

SORRY! I forgot to mention, the 9560 at MC does have the fingerprint scanner as well. With taxes and all it was $300 cheaper than a identical system quoted for me from Dell direct even with their 10% off deal. I pretty sure you'll get the Samsung SSD also if you get it at MC.

Still getting power throttling down to 1Ghz core on the GPU after a few minutes... it seems to happen after a bit of thermal throttling. I wonder if hitting the 77C limit frequently causes the card to power throttle? It goes thermal throttle for a couple minutes, then backs down power throttling for a couple minutes then back to full speed etc... I am using grizzly kryonaut

Best guy to ask is @iunlock

BTW @Eason - have you tried the Gigabyte Aero 14? I'm considering it as a potential purchase (but am still waiting for some long-overdue money to come in, so God knows when that will happen).

I've never used an Aero so I don't know about its temperatures. I didn't take stock temps on my XPS 15 before repasting either lol. I have gelid GC and grizzly kryonaut, no CLU.

Hmm. IMHO I'm willing to accept the Aero if it stays in the 70s/80s (both CPU and GPU) with CLU. I need the portability. @iunlock - this is a challenge to you - can you tame an Aero 14? If anyone can, you can.

Yeah, I read that is tough to open up and repaste. So IF I buy one, I will get it through GenTechPC or HIDevolution and ask them to repaste it with CLU for me

Is anyone experiencing a lag on opening This PC. I tried the latest drivers from Intel website , beta too and Killer Beta along with Dell Killer Drivers updated 13th March .

I bought the HDD version of the 9560 with the intention of upgrading to SATA M2 after installing a copy of Windows 10 on the HDD . I also replaced my 1 TB hdd with Seagate 2TB SSHD Firecuda. Here are some of the problems i have been experiencing :-

    1. Lag on opening my PC . The lag is present on default dell installation (1tb wd hdd) and fresh installation of windows with updated Intel and Killer drivers (on the SSHD). The lag is still there when disabling Killer wifi.

    2. Problems with Seagate SSHD . I haven't been able to figure out the problem of slow read write speeds on the Seagate drive. Behaviour
2.1 It look 6 hours to decrypt a partially encrypted drive (used space 30gb)
    Checked with windows task manager
2.2 While copying data a from a WD USB 3 hard disk to internal Seagate SSHD , the write speeds are within USB2 limits
2.3 While copying data from SSHD to USB3 the read write speeds are again within USB2 limits . Only sometimes it moves to 50MB/S
2.4 Abnormal average response time often 500ms and above 1000ms . Average response time improves to within 100ms when i exit killer suite but problem of slow read write speed remains
2.5 Their is 100% disk utilization even after 10mins of booting windows10 with no background apps. The task manager shows a read write of only few mb/s
2.6 Significant improvement in read write speeds when copying from SHDD to USB3 and vice versa when booted from external Win82Go USB3 .Read write speeds are above 50MB/s often touching 70MB/s . Access times are still high. Often the write speeds will deteriorate to 1-5mb/s while copying large files from external USB3 to SHDD on windows8 2go boot.

I am confused if i have faulty SSHD or if the SMR drives are this slow. The read write speeds are so slow that sometimes the app using the HDD hangs . I have seen only very few comments regarding the slow performance of SMR drive . Its a high rated device on amazon. The SMART status is normal and the SSHD benchmarkes fine . On AS SSD their is a huge difference in results of windows10 and windows8 2go.

    Almost similar experience
    https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/676609-seagate-firecuda-sshd-slow/

The windows 10 vs Windows 8 confusion and laggy dell
-Assuming that i have faulty SSHD why is there a considerable performance improvement in windows 8 . This PC opens instantly and app launches are fast .
-Earlier to buying 9560 i was using windows 8 installed on 850 evo sata2 envy14 . I upgraded my laptop to windows 10 on the envy14 and replaced the 850 evo with a old 7200rpm 2.5" drive . After setting the old laptop which is downclocked to 1.2ghz the old laptop feels snappier when launching "This PC" and UAC prompts when compared to Dell 9560.

Has anyone tried windows 8.1 on dell 9560 ? I am considering replacing the killer wifi with intel . I am not so sure about windows 10 yet . May be try windows 10 +intel wifi

Mine was also very laggy with nothing obvious causing it and it was at times unusable.

Mainly with edge and chrome becoming unresponsive , keyboard lag , apps launching slow.

It was Mcaffe, disabled it and it's now full speed without the hangs .

    Anything in the event viewer?
Also a SSHD via USB caddy will probably not know what to cache unless it is connected direct to the laptop via sata so that may be the issue. The whole point is it caches the most used stuff ready and also has a huge buffer half the size (for a guess) to cache incoming write data.

It is a minor repair job as they only have to remove the battery to get to it. May as well phone it in and get onsite service, or a new one if they try and pull the "ship it back2 as that is wrong on a new laptop.

Is there any way to get Dell's next day premium warranty if you buy a laptop from a 3rd party like MC or do you have to shop from the Dell site to have a Dell premium warranty?

Also, has there been reports that the 1TB also comes with the better SSD (Samsung) from MC or only the 512gb?

The 9550/9560 will always have some kind of problem.

Well I bought a xiaomi mi air 13 and setup and testing went perfect so I'll be using the mi from now on.
The 9560 will go back as quality is better on the £600 mi than the £1300 9560.
The mi isn't a powerhouse and smaller screen but works flawlessly.
The mi also boots up under 10 seconds!

I did the usual fixes like disabling hardware acceleration and updating the intel drivers. Chrome works fine now but opera still lags. Also uninstalled macfee and disabled windows defender

I wrote my experiences with a SSHD installed over sata and an external wd usb3 drive. I haven't yet checked event viewer but the task manager shows that the SSHD is on 100% utilization even with read and write of 1-2 mb/s. The average response time often exceeds 1000ms . Even with all the performance deterioration i guess there is some problem with win10 drivers. I have also updated the SATA drivers and it doesn't make a difference.

Are the rates provided by dell after laptop purchase similar to the warranty rates provided at the time of purchase.

I think there's like a short grace period where the price is the same, and then after that it gets significantly more expensive.

Hey everyone-finally decided to get an XPS 15 9560 and I got the 1TB Toshiba SSD :( But, I am swapping that out for a Samsung 2TB Pro here shortly and selling the Toshiba to help pay for the better Samsung drive. Upgraded the RAM to 32GB 2400MHz Kingston HyperX Impact and also swapped out the Killer card for an Intel ac8265. I haven't messed with it too much, but I don't see any issues/problems that are sticking out right now. :) It's too bad all the problems that so many are experiencing! I hope they get resolved! Once I get the Samsung and do a clean install of Windows 10, and get to interact more with it, I will report back.

Very nice. Despite the issues you are seeing, there are those who also do have no issues lol. :) The main culprit for a lot of the software side of things is the Intel graphics driver, but as long as you go with the proper driver ( v4590), you should be fine. Also, just do a clean install and avoid any of the Dell bloat drivers as they are not needed. The 2TB 960 Pro is a monster of a drive...best in class... I had that, but switched it out to two 1TB sticks. You're set up is a beast and welcome to the dark side haha. Cheers.

    WOw....steal.

What are your Cinebench R15 scores with the new Hyperx memory? Mind running the Single core and Multicore benchmark and posting the results? I'm very interested to see if there's any performance gains. Could you also CPUz the memory timings also? I'm hoping they run at CL14 on the JEDEC 2400 speed..

Among Userbenchmark 9560 scores, at the top there are a few different 2400 C16 scoring 80-83%.
    No G.SKILL 2667 C18 breaking 90% so far (as with the 9550, http://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/933641 )

Yeah that's the server before I moved the 1060 over to it and put a 1080 in the desktop...

Bring it on... The CPU temps I'm very optimistic about.... GPU wise It'll be a challenge, but one I'm not afraid to tackle.
It'd be my pleasure... I still think some of the tablets I've worked on still hold the throne for difficulty, but with the right tools and 'stuff'...Which I have. Np.

Go for it - tag/PM me whenever you start on it. It even has a 1440p screen, just as you like. BTW, what kind of battery life are you getting from the 1080p version with light web browsing?

Thanks. Is there any tutorials on how to fix this myself? (Haven't had much luck yet)
