It did, but I rolled it back immediately, then updated the one from March you had on the ISO to the latest (15.46).

I think the problem is exacerbated by sleep/hibernate, but I'm not sure. FYI, the video below is similar to what I'm referencing, although also have the 10+ second task manager startup and slowed alt-tab. Comments in the video say to uninstall GeForce experience, but I don't even have to begin with on this new installation.

    )

I'm dreading spending hours on the phone with Dell just to get them to give me a new replacement that may have other problems (and that I'll have to repaste).

I nearly put that on then thought, f**k it and stuck back the one I knew worked, will give it a try later now you said it's ok :)

It's an odd one for sure, is this a clean install or have you started to put things on, if so what have you installed so far?
The current Dell video driver 4664 is fine and if you have an older one I would use DDU and stick the current official on to test.
I could do with the list of installed programs though. This should help https://www.howtogeek.com/165293/ho...e-installed-on-your-pc-with-a-single-command/

I'm running 4729 right now, so I suppose I could use DDU to go back to 4664.

You can see my installed programs below. Thanks again for your continued help! Any tips on getting a new replacement from Dell, should it come to that, by the way? I shelled out for ProSupport Plus and this thing is barely a month old, so I hope they'll cooperate.

It can all be done in the EFI shell (nothing in the BIOS) or, more easily, through combination of EFI shell and XTU in Windows via the XTU interface setting. I do suggest the latter option after testing with XTU only to find the maximum undervolts supported. If you do go via the XTU interface option, disable the XTU interface once its done as not doing so seems to cause the settings to reset after a few weeks.

Battery life in Linux is pretty good, but make sure you use a power saving script or TLP, as well as the kernel options. Also disable the nvidia gpu correctly if you arent using it!

So basically nothing apart from RStudio. Can you check if it runs in the background and if so use the startup section of the task manager to disable it as a test?

Can you disable defender as well? I don't use defender and disable by group policy.

    Hi,

Yesterday I plugged a genuine DELL power adapter (130W) into my 9560 and after a short buzzing a thin smoke flag appeared and the XPS was dead. Bummer, since I need it for my USA travel next week.
Unfortunately I didn't upgrade my warranty, yet - so it is still 2yr pick-up. Now I am trying to get an upgrade to 4yr On-Site ProSupport to get it fixed this week at my house...

    Cheers,
    Alex

This dell warranty extension - it isn't mentioned in the computer stores here or when I bought my 9560 but I'm interested in it, but I'm from the UK. I assume dell offer it over here too?

    Hi to all.
I am thinking to upgrade my dell and I hope in your suggestions about the best ssd (520 gb or more)
and how I can upgrade my ram without loose the existing ram.
There are 8 gb inside but I don't know if one piece of 8gb or two pieces of 4gb

So how is the xps 15 models doing now a day? Read things about coil whine and heating problems when it first released. Currently looking for a light on the go top with a minimum 1050 and this honestly looks like the best there is atm unless you guys got other suggestions.

Yeah, it doesn't run in the background at all. I disabled Defender as well, still no luck.

I guess I'll try my luck replacing it, although I am just outside the return window for an exchange. I'm going to assume you recommend avoiding a motherboard replacement at all costs? The idea that I'd get a refurbished motherboard on a brand new machine makes my blood boil.

The motherboard is a new one but marked as Refurb. They say its company policy. You can check it, either the board has older/newer BIOS w/ different Service Tag or something or even new Windows License key.

    Do you work for Dell?
    Basically they lied.

New marked as refurb, that has to be the daftest thing I read here this week.
We are lucky if they supply a working one.

Hmmm, no one would defend the BS about refurb stuff being new o_O
Seriously you are lucky to get a working part never mind new!

Unless it is part of a new design to fix a serious flaw where you can call it in and be sent an engineer with the redesigned part.

That does not pass the sniff test.

If Dell is marking new, high-value current product inventory as "Refurb," they would be writing down a lot of inventory. That would be a direct hit to the Income Statement and Balance Sheet, which would irritate investors and the top executives holding billions in Dell equity. The banks, insurance companies and auditors would be all over this and force write-downs.

Dell's policy with the XPS is well documented in these threads; warranty replacement parts are generally refurb, not new. Apple did that with the 3 motherboards they replaced on my MacBook Pro.

So what would the advice be for negotiating with Dell? Is it possible to get an exchange outside of the 30 days or are they going to keep replacing motherboards again and again?

    1. Be persistent
    2. Threaten credit card chargeback (only the people who do refunds know how you paid and Dell have little to no internal communication)
    3. Demand to speak to the resolutions team
    4. goto 1
I have had several exchanges as far into the warranty as 18 months, I have had a full refund 2 years and 11 months into my 3 year warranty.

Anything is possible with persistence and the correct threats. I find phone support best.

Get it, at the end of the day if you buy it online (especially from Dell direct using discount codes they put up on a regular basis and cashback sites like quidco) you have a certain amount of time to return it for a full refund if you are not happy. If it arrives with a defect you can demand a replacement as no one wants a new laptop repairing due to some sloppy assembler.

Thank you! Thing is that in my country I can't buy straight from Dell, so I'm looking to buy a lower spec from ebay. What you think, is this legit ? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dell-XPS-...128125&hash=item2837095afa:g:QZ8AAOSwpIdW7u87

This model on ebay would be great for me, I like that it has two slots for storage and I don't mind smaller battery. i5 vs i7 not much of a deal as well.

Buying blind from another country is a risk, are you sure Dell do not ship to your country as most are shipped direct from the plant in China.

FYI that address is just a terraced house on one of the housing estates in Peterborough. I wouldn't buy from that seller. Obvious fake phone number and a standard gmail addy.

    Thanks for your help!

I think I'll skip this ebay deal, even if it looks like he sold few. As of Dell, they're not shipping to Lithuania (EU), we do have Dell partners/resellers here only, I found at local store XPS 15 for 1700 EUR, which is Full HD, i7, 256 SSD, Win10 Pro

and I saw that Microsoft Store has a i5 model for 1249 GBP/1400 EUR and ships to Lithuania, but I think its better to spend a bit more and have a local warranty service as well as better specs.

    what you people think ?

Hi everyone, proud owner of a 9560 and long time lurker here. I only finally made an account because I need help with something.

I was wondering if anyone has encounter "xtendapservice.exe" before. I'm trying to update my wireless card drivers, (I'm using the Killer 1535 card) but they won't let me do it because I have "Killer Performance Suite" installed. However, when I try to uninstall the suite, I get this error:

Error 2753. The File "xtendapservice.exe" is not marked for installation.

I've tried uninstalling it through Add/Remove Programs, through the installer it came with, and even with Revo Uninstaller. The same error always pops up.

I was hoping one of you wonderful people might be able to help me. Thanks in advance!

You are limiting your chances of an answer picking a specific laptop thread for a card used in multiple computers. If you can't get around this by installing over the top and/or using safe mode I suggest contacting killer support or searching one of the many killer threads around the internet. No one in this threads reported this so I doubt we can help?

So my laptop arrived, The 4K screen is quite impressive.

Already removed the 97 Watt battery and installed my 1TB 2.5 inch SSD hard drive and a new 1 TB M.2 drive,

The hard drive kit from EBay had everything included, and was easy to install.

just waiting for the 56 Watt battery to arrive, and we are all set.

Looking at the 97 watt battery makes me wonder if I should just convert it to a 4 Cell. and use it its not a sealed unit in a plastic case.

Also going to extend the complete care coverage for an additional 2 years ( 3 total ) dell quoted me $ 250.00 more to extended the coverage.

Hello Gonzo, do you believe it would be possible for me to get a refund (considering I have extended warranty for my xps 15) after 6 months? I just have no idea, and I'm not very good with threats considering they just tell me wouldn't be able to do anything past the 30 day window. Thanks for your help.

Oops yeah you're right, my bad. The reason I asked here actually was because I'm using the drivers I got from the Dell website. So I thought they would be slightly different.

I'll go ahead and give your advice a try. Thanks for the suggestions!

I'm not sure what part of my post you didn't understand, I got a refund by chipping away at them, I really can't help you with any aspect of it though, if you can't dish out threats to a company selling you a turd then I guess you will be stuck with it.

Well I had issues with it not uninstalling the software and put the latest killer suite on from the killer site, then uninstalled and finally installed the driver only. Problem solved.

Well I finally uninstalled it. I used Microsoft Fixit for anyone who encounters the problem in the future. I didn't have high hopes for it initially, but I decided to give it a try anyway since I was running out of options.

Ironically, the driver itself didn't get updated. Only the Killer Performance Suite was updated. Lesson learnt, I'll install just the driver only from now on.

Edit: Contacted Killer support and they mentioned it was a known issue. The file isn't actually in your computer, but the registry thinks it needs it to uninstall the program. They also suggested using Microsoft's Fix It to remove the program.

The killer suites a waste of time, my router handles QOS instead.

So I went into my 9560 bios and found out that Dell used RAID for my NVMe 500 gb drive. AFAIK, there is only 1 drive so why not used AHCI? I guess there is something about the NVMe and win10 incompatibility. I am sure this was raised several times before but I could not find the answer, so please forgive my ignorance. Do I need to change from raid to AHCI? What happens when I do?

Because one BIOS image suits all for Dell, less work for them. Most of us switched to AHCI but you need to set windows to safe mode before during and after the change or it will BSOD until you set it back.

Thanks. So before changing the bios from raid to AHCI, what are the exact steps? I know I need to set windows to safe mode before, during and after. I can get into safe mode with Shift+Restart but do I get into the bios during restart? Is there a tutorial somewhere?

OK, did it. For those new to this, use windows powershell admin and issue the command bcdedit /set safeboot minimal then exit.
Reboot and press f2 at the first dell sign, get into bios, change raid to AHCI APPLY AND REBOOT. Once back into windows, powershell and bcdedit /deletevalue safeboot. Reboot system and you are done. Verify using device manager. Hope this helps somebody.

Or you could just hold shift as you hit reboot ;)

Odd error on the US dell site where many XPS 9560s are listed with Nvidia 1050ti (!) cards. Put the laptop into your cart and click "detail view" and see

"NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050Ti 4GB JFCMR"

I called Dell as that is not a specified card and the current rev is clearly unable to power the 1050ti. Obvious typo.

And... if I don't have all the budget, from your opinion, what could be the best choice to improve the performance of the laptop.
I use it for work. video/3d/2d

So, if I upgrade the ram is the same thing that if I change the ssd?
