Seems like Dell XPS Horror Story got a new 2017 season after all. Madness that they never learn.

I would certainly return the laptop to Dell for them to look into placing the Wi-Fi card on your 9560 but with regards to coil whine from the charger, this would be questionable and again - backlight bleed in general and certainly on laptop monitors is a very common thing and is part of the monitor lottery, it's just how technology is at the moment. They could replace the screen for you but again, the replacement could still have backlight bleed or hardly any at all. It's very much a gamble. It may be worth comparing your screen to others online to see how severe it is, I believe that if it is then Dell should replace it - by severe I mean that it's still noticeable on brighter backgrounds rather than just on dark backgrounds.

Just about every laptop that I've owned the last couple of years has had some form of blacklight bleed present.

    Liam.

Says it'll be ready to ship in 2 weeks then 2 day shipping. Thermal pads should be here in about 3 weeks... Oh yes!

Never seen evident bleeding on a luminous room on every semi-decent laptop in the past 20 years. I've lost my luck? Or a Premium laptop should have better QC?

Aren't higher speed rams supposed to run at slower speeds and CL according to system support determined by SPD.

    DDR4-2400-CL15 15-15-35
    DDR4-2666-CL18 18-18-43
    DDR4-2800-CL18 18-18-43

I am looking for CL15 ram at that's not Kingston which is hugely overpriced.Currently the Viper 2666mhz is cheaper than 2400mhz however i am now confused .

Defects may happen but the fact that dell replied that replacing the screen wouldn't solve the problem is strange; one of the good things of the xps 15 is that it's mostly modular, you can change pretty much anything including the whole screen easily (when i had the 9550 i did some hardware work on it and replacing the screen would take 20 mins at most).

Regarding the coil whine from the charger - is it at all possible to get a USB-C charger which plugs into the mains? If that were the only issue (and I know it's not in the case of htrex) then I'd be tempted to find an alternative charger.

could you swap the SSDs or screens?

I'm getting a replacement too...hoping I don't get any other parts. I'm quite happy with my laptop (except for the coil whine).

Had hoped that the new XPS15 could finally be the one PC to match my MacBook Pros. I am a .net developer running Windows, I dont want to buy yet another MBP and run Windows on it. Especially this year when Apple seems to have gone completely mad with the redesign. But when it comes to build quality, I have yet to see anything match it. And believe me, I've REALLY TRIED.

Well mines here, screen seems ok but the battery is coming out the box with 9% wear level so a discharge/charge will be done to see if it corrects, if not they can come fit a new battery.

Also it did get the ****ty LG SSD that is slower than my Toshiba so I will talk to tech about that, I may say it is BSOD like the 9550 did until it had the storage controller updated and the LG drive has no driver to fix this afaik.

If tech wont budge I think I will sell my other 9550 to fund upgrading this and buying my daughter a 2 in 1 instead of a 9550.

No, I am not aware of one for the LG drive, so far so good but I am pissy about getting a slow SSD so I may have to invent issues with it!
Just waiting to discharge the battery to see what the real wear level is. 9% out the box is ****!

I would find it hard to believe that you have an actual 9% wear on a new battery, the wear level is often wrong because it will show an incorrect total capacity. I know mine said I had a 9% wear level but it would charge up to 108%. I don't put a ton of faith in that.

Don't you think that inventing issues with a drive that functions fine is a little lame? I mean it's lame that dell puts multiple different drives in it, but you knew that and you rolled the dice.

I will probably do another full discharge to see if it resets, happened on my 9530 anyway.

Also noticed on Aida64 FPU only stress test I am sat at 3200 fan speed, 75c max temp bouncing between 3 - 3.1 ghz
If I swap to CPU test it sits at 3.4ghz
I will be activating SpeedShift later

GonZ0 - looking forward to your views on the new heatsink performance.

Sorry about the dead screen pixel, lousy SSD and potential battery issue why not return this for credit and order another to try your luck again in the Dell SSD lottery?

How slow is a slow ssd? Read and write? This is my main complaint of the alienware I got (but will put in a 960 evo at some point)

SSD lottery lol! Mine should be arriving today, I really dislike FedEx smh... Taking the whole day again. I just hope it has the pm961 512GB. That's an upgrade compared to the 128GB sm951 I currently have.
IF the need ever arises, I'll put in a 1TB sm961

Dunno if I will, one dead pixel, SSD is a bit faster on writes and slow on reads. LG = 2500/1200 MB/s Toshiba = 2400/1500. The PM951 is 3000MB/s, Write 1150MB/s

I am thinking either ask for a new build to see if I get a perfect panel & faster SSD or see if the sale of my 9550 gets me enough to upgrade.

    Posted above :)

Laptop came in. I see that weird thing with the keyboard being slightly raised at the left shift, ctrl and FN key area, can live with this TBH. Coil whine exactly as it was on my 9550, you have to bring the device close to your ear to hear it. Not bothered by this. Nothing wrong with the FHD screen, hallelujah

Yes, but it only seems I would get the same for more money and the customer service is still really good even on xps level. And usually workstations means paying multum for old tech quadros which has no value for me.
