Seems like Dell XPS Horror Story got a new 2017 season after all. Madness that they never learn.

I would certainly return the laptop to Dell for them to look into placing the Wi-Fi card on your 9560 but with regards to coil whine from the charger, this would be questionable and again - backlight bleed in general and certainly on laptop monitors is a very common thing and is part of the monitor lottery, it's just how technology is at the moment. They could replace the screen for you but again, the replacement could still have backlight bleed or hardly any at all. It's very much a gamble. It may be worth comparing your screen to others online to see how severe it is, I believe that if it is then Dell should replace it - by severe I mean that it's still noticeable on brighter backgrounds rather than just on dark backgrounds.
Just about every laptop that I've owned the last couple of years has had some form of blacklight bleed present.

JUSTTTT ordered the XPS 15 9560!!! i5 model.
Says it'll be ready to ship in 2 weeks then 2 day shipping. Thermal pads should be here in about 3 weeks... Oh yes! -
Never seen evident bleeding on a luminous room on every semi-decent laptop in the past 20 years. I've lost my luck? Or a Premium laptop should have better QC?
See yourself -
Aren't higher speed rams supposed to run at slower speeds and CL according to system support determined by SPD.
DDR4-2400-CL15 15-15-35
DDR4-2666-CL18 18-18-43
DDR4-2800-CL18 18-18-43
I am looking for CL15 ram at that's not Kingston which is hugely overpriced.Currently the Viper 2666mhz is cheaper than 2400mhz however i am now confused . -
Is that FHD or 4K screen?
-
FHD you can see the fugly bezel.
-
Defects may happen but the fact that dell replied that replacing the screen wouldn't solve the problem is strange; one of the good things of the xps 15 is that it's mostly modular, you can change pretty much anything including the whole screen easily (when i had the 9550 i did some hardware work on it and replacing the screen would take 20 mins at most).
-
Regarding the coil whine from the charger - is it at all possible to get a USB-C charger which plugs into the mains? If that were the only issue (and I know it's not in the case of htrex) then I'd be tempted to find an alternative charger.
-
Seems like my new xps 15 (the latest one had a stuck pixel so i asked for refund) has been shipped with the slower toshiba xg4 (i checked on support page), any chance i can get an ssd replacement from dell?
-
could you swap the SSDs or screens?
I'm getting a replacement too...hoping I don't get any other parts. I'm quite happy with my laptop (except for the coil whine). -

Swap the SSD out. If they ask say you needed to keep your files... It's not a big deal -
In theory I have to send mine back this week (14 days from delivery), but Dell support told me that I can keep this until the new will be delivered...now i don't know if i can trust them or not, i don't want to loose money, i gave them 3400€ in less than a month
-
quite normal.
-
do you mean that it's normal that i can keep mine until the new one will be delivered? Even if i'm not doing a replace but a refund?
-
First Dell need to employ somone who actualy know what QC is...

He probably meant that its ok to keep the one you have until the new one arrives.Ironically, Dells customer service is phenomenal, at least has always been to me. If only they were im charge of the manufacturing...

Had hoped that the new XPS15 could finally be the one PC to match my MacBook Pros. I am a .net developer running Windows, I dont want to buy yet another MBP and run Windows on it. Especially this year when Apple seems to have gone completely mad with the redesign. But when it comes to build quality, I have yet to see anything match it. And believe me, I've REALLY TRIED.

Yeah hang on to it till your new one arrives, I've done it before. They shouldn't give you any trouble at all. -
Yes cross shipping is normal with pro support.
Thought about speccing a precision instead? -
Well mines here, screen seems ok but the battery is coming out the box with 9% wear level so a discharge/charge will be done to see if it corrects, if not they can come fit a new battery.
Also it did get the ****ty LG SSD that is slower than my Toshiba so I will talk to tech about that, I may say it is BSOD like the 9550 did until it had the storage controller updated and the LG drive has no driver to fix this afaik.
If tech wont budge I think I will sell my other 9550 to fund upgrading this and buying my daughter a 2 in 1 instead of a 9550.pressing likes this. -
Are you using a storage controller driver?
2 in 1 are getting great reviews!!

No, I am not aware of one for the LG drive, so far so good but I am pissy about getting a slow SSD so I may have to invent issues with it!
Just waiting to discharge the battery to see what the real wear level is. 9% out the box is ****!pressing likes this. -

I would find it hard to believe that you have an actual 9% wear on a new battery, the wear level is often wrong because it will show an incorrect total capacity. I know mine said I had a 9% wear level but it would charge up to 108%. I don't put a ton of faith in that.
Don't you think that inventing issues with a drive that functions fine is a little lame? I mean it's lame that dell puts multiple different drives in it, but you knew that and you rolled the dice. -
Lame or not it is still a piss poor speed compared to the review samples.

Whatever you gotta tell yourself to sleep at night dude. -
9560 with the 84w battery is a no go.
Oddly enough the 9550 happily took the 97w battery

Good news for 9550 owners, not as great for 9560 owners... I know a few were wanting to buy the cheaper 84w battery...
-
Yep, that's pissed on that bonfire. I wonder why though?
This should be the other way round.

Well that stinks... the 84wh battery is pretty darn cheap... really stinks...
-
in my 9560 i7, when I stess cpu all core reach x34 multipler, is it normal? in the 7700hq the turboboost is 34, 35, 36, 38.
-
Yes it is normal and well documented that turbo max is for a single core not all of them.giovanni taddei likes this.
-
Still shows a 9% wear level but has charged to it's designated 97003 mWh even though it says the fully charged capacity is 87438 mWh
-
custom90gt Doc Mod Super Moderator
Yeah, that's what mine did, not sure why it shows the wear but then the correct final charge value. -
I will probably do another full discharge to see if it resets, happened on my 9530 anyway.
Also noticed on Aida64 FPU only stress test I am sat at 3200 fan speed, 75c max temp bouncing between 3 - 3.1 ghz
If I swap to CPU test it sits at 3.4ghz
I will be activating SpeedShift laterLast edited: Feb 15, 2017pressing likes this. -
GonZ0 - looking forward to your views on the new heatsink performance.
Sorry about the dead screen pixel, lousy SSD and potential battery issue why not return this for credit and order another to try your luck again in the Dell SSD lottery?Last edited: Feb 15, 2017 -
How slow is a slow ssd? Read and write? This is my main complaint of the alienware I got (but will put in a 960 evo at some point)
-
SSD lottery lol! Mine should be arriving today, I really dislike FedEx smh... Taking the whole day again. I just hope it has the pm961 512GB. That's an upgrade compared to the 128GB sm951 I currently have.
IF the need ever arises, I'll put in a 1TB sm961

Hey guys! On the shipping for your XPS 15...did you have signature on delivery? oh boy... I've got the 2 day premier shipping...wondering if it'll be signature required...
-
Dunno if I will, one dead pixel, SSD is a bit faster on writes and slow on reads. LG = 2500/1200 MB/s Toshiba = 2400/1500. The PM951 is 3000MB/s, Write 1150MB/s
I am thinking either ask for a new build to see if I get a perfect panel & faster SSD or see if the sale of my 9550 gets me enough to upgrade.

Laptop came in. I see that weird thing with the keyboard being slightly raised at the left shift, ctrl and FN key area, can live with this TBH. Coil whine exactly as it was on my 9550, you have to bring the device close to your ear to hear it. Not bothered by this. Nothing wrong with the FHD screen, hallelujah

Has anyone used a matte cover for the 4K screen? Did it decrease the quality of the screen?
-
Yes, but it only seems I would get the same for more money and the customer service is still really good even on xps level. And usually workstations means paying multum for old tech quadros which has no value for me.

Thats one advantage of buying Dell, you usually do not have to come up with imaginary problems to return it, the resl ones are usually enough

That really sucks, thanks for testing that out for me.GoNz0 likes this.
