I am happy to announce that I repurchased (yes, after going through three of these already) for the 4th time. Reburbished i5 model 1080P for $929. (free shipping and reasonable return policy) I'll keep ya'll posted. Brought from Ebay, MaxMart <----
-
Decided against the 4k for extra battery life and really didn't feel like dealing with scaling issues for my work's software. -
I was debating between i5/i7 and ultimately decide to opt for i5 and use the $$ difference to upgrade to 16GB Ram and 500 GB m.2 Evo. Are you buying the parts to install the 2.5" drive btw? I'll keep y'all posted. Supposed to get here next week. Cheers -
BTW the reason I also bought from MaxMart was their 30 day return policy. The usual 14 days was just not a confidence boost.Pkorgt likes this. -

Well I think I got the bargain of the year.
i7, 1TB PM951 SSD, 4K Screen, 16GB.
£1025 which equates to about $1480 at todays exchange rate.
It was a refurb through a Dell secondary seller in the UK. Got the deal because I went and collected and paid cash.
Just finished doing the setup....
Win7 Ultimate, Win10 Pro, Fedora23 triple boot. -
I want to make sure I got a 6cell like promised, so will have to open but they have those weird screws on the back. Will have to wait for that.
Any more info on how to transfer warranty? -
You need some basic info from the Seller. You said you picked yours up from Ebay/Maxmart right? As long as you don't have screen flickering. Dell XPS 9550 is known for having nice brightness so make sure to update all your drivers and BIOS. You need Torx screws to open it up. You can honestly walk to a nearby hardware store and pick up a small starter kit for like $15. I have two sets and they have served me well. If you are not willing to put the time and small effor than you probably shouldn't be buying refurbished from ebay. Go with Dell Outlet or just buy new. There is no guarantee that we will end up with a spotless system.
At the end of the day, Dell really juiced this model with a ton of lemons. I know some folks are happy with theirs but who knows. Best of luck to you cyber brother. Mine is supposed to arrive Wednesday. I'll keep you posted. I am ready to return asap at the first sight of any noticeable issue.vladmoney likes this. -
As a former ebay seller that was robbed by a slimey buyer, it can cost a couple hundred dollars to take back a return for non-legitimate reasons. Now, if the seller sends you an HP laptop instead a Dell, that's a different story, but that's not the case here. -
We live in a world of buyers and sellers. Yes, I am ready to return. I am also ready to assume the risk of this purchase if any. A buyer similarly is ready to engage in business and has provided free returns willingly. I am not twisting anyone's arm here dear cyber brother. If you feel personal about this matter as a previous seller then I offer my most sincere unapologetic apologies to you sir.
On a lighter note, I feel confident with purchasing refurbished because I hope that Del has examined the unit upon original return. Like many of you here my responses are based on my experience and well my experience with both a previous Dell purchase and Ebay refurbished was lacking in satisfaction. If it provides you any form of closure cyber bother let me tell you that I am not here to "work" anyone. On the contrary, I would like to also gain something from this purchase just as much as any seller looks forward to making a profit. I want to gain happiness knowing that my hard earned cash hasn't gone to waste on a semi functional unit. Capeesh? -
In any case, you seem rather uncaring, exactly the reason I stopped selling on ebay, so I'm not going to try to change your mind. Just thought you might care.
Hopefully, you receive a perfect unit so everyone is happy. Good luck. -
Just picket up my refurbished earlier this morning from UPS. As promised, I would keep my dear cyber bros updated. I noticed the following:
1. Screen flickering on lowest brightness setting.
2. Fan noise when AC plugged in.
3. Keyboard no registering strokes at times.
4. Crackling noise when playing audio and raising/lowering brightness.
I have contacted seller and they have provided return label. I don't think I will try to buy refurbished again. This is my second refurbished attempt. If I ever do decided to give this laptop a 5th chance I will most likely wait for the Skylake refresh that is coming up or just wait to see what else comes out later on in 2016. (Black Friday deals anyone?) -
1) Updated to the latest 1511 version of Windows 10 through Windows updates?
2) Updated to the latest BIOS from Dell's support site?
3) Updated all the drivers to the latest from Dell's support site?
4) Updated the Intel Graphics's and nVidia drivers from the respective manufacturer's sites?
A lot of the updates fixes many (if not all) of the issues people have with the early drivers and BIOS that you probably have on that 9550. -
Let me go ahead and edit my post:
"After updating EVERYTHING, I MEAN EVERYTHING I still notice the following . . ."
Dell keeps trying to make improvements and with recent updates I am sure some folks are happy, but the units I've received have problems. End of story. I just came back from dropping it off at the post office.
I know screen flickering is hardware because at one point I had three of these. And I switched the screens around. There was only one screen that was perfect, but also suffered from other issues. Thanks for the tips. I really appreciate the input but you either received a flawless system or you have to deal with a few hiccups. I ain't got time for nothing that is not perfect.Attached Files:

I haven't had a chance to play around with mine yet due to work things, but I just checked to make sure I don't have those issues, and so far so good. Will probably go for the clean install and see if I can find anything.Pkorgt likes this. -

I was reading through this whole thread and noticed back in March, you had purchased a brand new one, and if I understood what you said, you messed up the BIOS settings enough where you couldn't get it to boot and sent it back for a replacement. What happened with the 2nd new XPS 9550? Then you switched to refurbs from ebay. One after another, problems. Send back, get another. Rinse, repeat. So you've been through new and refurbs and still not a single working unit?
Maybe you should try your luck with HP.z31fanatic likes this. -
I also tried HP already twice and Lenovo Y700. LOL. Yes all these items were sent back. So now I am writing this on my HP Pavilion from 2010/2011. -
What's your ebay ID so I can block you from ever bidding on my items?

Guess who just priced match a brand new Dell XPS 9550 i7 256GB model with a Lenovo Y700 for $1202.66!!!!
Buahahahahah.
A note on price matching for those who are interested in taken this resourceful route. Make sure to use the following information when finding a product to Price Match with Dell: ( I have marked in bold below the most important things you need to use when chatting or talking to dell)
Tips to remember: Regular sales representatives will not be able to approve a price match especially when, at the time of writing this Dell XPS is going for $1499.99 and strangely on business Dell Site for $1549.99 before taxes. They have to take it up with a manager or supervisor for approval.
I've heard some folks who have successfully priced match on here saying that you have to call Dell. I am a boss and I was able to price match through chat. Make sure you get this so called "quote number" sent to you (email) for your reference. You can then use this to easily purchase on your own online.
The lenovo I priced match is currently going for $1143.99. This may of course change. You have to stick to the facts and tell Dell that you are abiding by guidelines set by Dell in their Price Match policy. This is the key to success. If you find something with "Key shared" similarities then use that as your basis for asking for a price match. Don't let Dell tell you otherwise. When configuring Lenovo or any other brand make sure to match up key specs. at first I was told that I couldn't get these model price matched because of the difference in hard drives. Dell XPS has PCIE and Lenovo doesn't. Dell will try everything and even make up stuff. (i.e I was told the name, color, weight don't match)
Ah-ha! But according to Dell Price Match they share the "capacity" of the drive. They are both 256GB! This is your trump card. You have to be very keen to detail here because Dell will try their best to railroad you off the price match road. Don't give up fellow cyber brothers!
I did of course have a $51 dell promo card and another $3 one that I was able to use. (maximum number of gift cards you can use is 2 by the way) plus your payment method. I really hope this helps some folks who are looking to buy new from Dell but not pay the "premium" price.
For anyone looking into price matching the current lenovo I priced match go here: http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/ideapad/y700-series/y700-15-inch/
You have to manually configure models at times so make sure to do your homework thoroughly. Keep an eye on sales throughout other sites that Dell will price match and so on. Good luck cyber brothers. I am providing proof of final price I paid for those of you nihilist who don't believe. Don't loose hope and keep on bargaining.
How Dell’s Price Match works
Dell.com wants you to love your new technology without worrying about price. If you find a lower price advertised on the internet for a similarly configured Dell, HP, Lenovo or Apple computer, or any identical electronics product, we will match that price.
Products Dell will match:
A new personal computer from HP or Lenovo sold on their respective U.S. websites that shares these same key specs with a Dell PC:
o Operating system
o Memory
o Hard disk drive capacity
o Graphics solution (i.e. GPU)
o Screen Size and Resolution
o Touch capability
o Processor
TLR: Be extremely vigilant when Pricing Matching Dell and don't take no for an answer. Be prepared to waste a couple of hours.

I suppose I wish you luck on this, your 4th 9550, but I have to say I'm not confident you'll find it perfect enough to keep. I think you just like to buy things!Pkorgt likes this. -
I tried to price match with dell but they refused to meet the lenovo price unless I sent them a specific webpage with the spec'ed out lenovo. They stated "we are unable to configure other competitors computers" and that I must send them an exact link with the lenovo I want....and I am unable to figure out how to do it. I sent them a picture of the computer and with price and they just said no.
-
You have to be firm. If you are chatting with Dell make sure to tell them that for this particular model Lenovo does not provide a direct link. The truth is Lenovo does not have a direct link. Even if you save it on your cart and share the link when Dell tried to open that link it will just take them back to Lenovo page.
Do the following: Instruct Dell rep to scroll down and click on "customize" option. Tell Dell that from there they can manually configure to match the spec with Dell XPS model. They will give you hard time but hold your ground. Say something like, "I do apologize for the inconvenience but Lenovo does not have a direct link" (because they really don't. Save some screen shots and email them to Dell. when you open a chat you will automatically get their email. If they don'st provide it then just ask them for it.
Tell them to please click on the base model (this is the only model right now that can be customized) Then from there Dell can see that it can be cofigured to match the Dell XPS. you should do it to on our end so you can walk Dell through it. Try another sales rep if you can't get them to do it. I believe in you cyber brother. Like I said right now you can price match the i7 256 Dell XPS for $1143.99 Plus taxes comes out to $1256. for a brand new dell I would say that isn't bad at all.
Cheers! -
A bit of an impulse buy, but with the 1TB SSD, I couldn't resist. I originally was looking at buying new without the 4K screen, but after seeing this I couldn't resist.

...and these prices don't include an extra 30% off open box, so $999 and $1,099 for a $2300 machine. This is the 1tb/16gig/4k model. Outrageous deal. At Best Buy Colorado Springs. Someone will get a stupid deal on these two machines. And they both worked fine...

So my fancy Dell XPS arrived today. For those of you who have been following my journey will know that I am a sucker at this point. It flickers a lowest dim settings. Updated everything. I am goanna throw in the towel. I honestly don't even like model. I've wasted so much time lol. I was thinking of asking for a replacement but I am not going to. Does someone want to buy? I can probably get another discount if I brag to dell and cry. I ultimately don't like the key travel. My 6-7 year old pavilion has a better typing experience. I'll make sure to prioritize in the search for my pavilion replacement laptop. Thank ya'll for following! I seriously took it out the box and put right back in. LMK if anyone is interested!

I was hunting for the 1TB SSD for awhile now on eBay. Somehow they don't have it anymore, so I went with the 512GB for now. Price came out to be $1319.99 for mine--same specs, different/smaller SSD.
EDIT: Wait, yours is a 4K version. Mine is the FHD/1080p version. You got yourself a good deal there!Meetloaf13 likes this. -
Haha, yeah, when I saw that price I deliberated for a few minutes and pulled the trigger!
It still has it's quirks, but I LOVE the form factor and hardware.

Guess who is back! So I finally hit the jack pot!. Picked up, yet again, another Dell XPS 9550. This time, however, I went for the i7 256GB 1080P model for the low, low price of only $871.66. Yes, brand freaking new people. I know some of you be hating on me for buying so much and returning even more but believe me when I tell you, if you have time to spare then many discounts will be yours! Every time you purchase from dell using either Dell Advantage or a Dell Preferred Account (a.k.a Dell credit line) you can get up 10% cash back in the form of a gift card. At first I was like boo, the hell I want a gift card for? But after my first purchase with Dell I got back $55 and then another $52 in a second gift card. I used one of these to buy the $50 Dell XPS sleeve. I then repurchased and returned again. Only this time I paid using my DPA and got back $115. I also requested the $55 girt card be refunded because I used it and I ended up getting it back. So at this point, I have a free sleeve and two gift cards ($115, $50) that I used earlier this month to purchase a brand new Dell XPS. lol. You are going to trip over this one. I had manage to figure out how to price match Dell so well that all I had to do with this purchase was give them the ticket number I had used about a month ago to price match a lenovo for $1040 and about $1250 after taxes (remember I used a $50 gift card though so only paid $1202 or something like that) This was a sweet deal too but THEN! As I was completing my recent purchase I pulled out my two gift cards! and my total only came out to $1080<--- after taxes. At this point, I know how to hustle Dell so, so well I tell them what's up with one of my gift cards I had used and they slap me with another $50 credit bringing my total down to about $1030. I am such a pro that I don't stop here and request a return. EVERY TIME YOU TELL DELL YOU WANT TO RETURN (even though you aren't a.k.a scare tactics) their sales team will offer a discount if you keep and sometimes get it checked out by tech support to fix it or whatever. Well guess what? I got a $100 discount. AND it doesn't end there. Nope sir, I take out McAfee because Dell charges you $50 (you need to talk to support for this one) for this and guess what? $1030-$100 is like $930 and then you take away another $50 for the McAfee and boom, you get a brand new Dell XPS i7 256GB for only $871 with .66 cents! A laptop that is $1600 plus after taxes on Dell.com This is not refurbished, or used. I am talking about a smacking brand new one baby! It feels good. I feel good. Hope ya'll enjoyed my life story. Here is some pics from my invoice etc. In retro spec I could have gotten a 512GB SSd, or a 4k with larger battery model for dirt cheap but I am okay. It is only natural that battery life will shorten and I am not hyped about 4k and I would rather use the money I saved to upgrade as much as I want. I also bought the sata cable and rubber things tha I am using to slap on my 850 EVO in the 2.5" slot. Did I mention I just got another $115 gift card from this last purchase? I'll be using that to buy the extra battery pack. Oh, and also all the discounts you get also come with taxes so in case you are wondering where the cents come from or what not. ISN'T THAT GREAT OR WHAT! Gotta stick it to the man I tell ya!
