Just switched back to vista today, xp had gone kaput on my lappie. However I am planning to install 64 bit xp ( i have 4 gig ram ) on my laptop. This will be just for gaming . I also believe there are certain scaled down versions available for 64 bit xp which are meant only for gaming. But now the question is will crysis run at a higher fps in 64 bit vista due to increased ram (Other hardware remaining constant? )

    Udi,
Thx for an excellent Driver pack.

However The AHCI controller(lazy version) gives the "minimum requirements"
    problem.

I would like to slipstream instead. So,can you please provide me with the drivers required for slipstreaming?

P.S-nLite doesnot recognise the Floppy Method drivers.

Udi, kudos on all the great work you've been doing on this driver pack.

Did you get this new updated driver packed released? I'd love to have it with the new chipset and HD drivers. If so, where can we download it to be sure we get this one and not the previous one?

I used the thread below and the slipstreaming process worked for me. Not sure if you have read this step by step process or not. I slipstreamed the Floppy Method drivers in via this process with nlite, created the bootable XP cd and installed as normal after reformatting my hard drive. I then went back through the other UDI drivers and all functions are working fine as far as I can tell. I have been stable for over two weeks.

Looking forward to the updated driver pack but I don't think I need it.

Hi Suber as far as my knowledge goes, UDI got the idea of compiling a driver pack after going thru the same thread referred to by you :) .

    Hi,

I dual booted my XPS 1530 sucessfully.

But there are certain problems with my Bluetooth module. In the bluetooth icon which is there in my system tray, if i click on this it pops up a message

"Enable bluetooth using Fn/F2 or Radio on/off switch"

I downloaded the utility R159805.EXE from dell utility. But when I run it says:

    "No capable device found".

I am not able to use any bluetootooth devices. Please suggest some solution for this.

Ya, I know, but I was not sure if hotball had seen the progression to the UDI dirve pack. UDI did not suggest slipstreaming using nlite in his driver pack read me file and I think that was question at hand. Regardless since we have not heard from him I guess he figured it out somehow. My sytem is still running goos but I need to get some DVD software on and I have speed issuess with outlook 07 communicating with a remote exchange 07 server. But these items belong on other threads.

    Hi all,

I'm having some problems with the Intel A/B/G wi-fi adapter. I can power on the laptop and have a working connection but if I put the laptop in Standby and bring it back up, the wireless will never reconnect.

I have tried various drivers from the Dell site and the Intel site - including the Intel connection utility that supersedes wireless zero config - but to no avail.

    Any advice?

    Thanks in advance!

Hi guys. I slipstreamed the SATA and it seems to have worked great. Now I have to do the drivers some of which are confusing. My first concern, being an audio guy, is the audio driver. The audio folder in Udi's package also includes two subfolders, HDAQFE and WDM. I am wondering what these are for. Do I install drivers from each of these folders as well as from the main folder?

Use the device manager method to update the audio (and all other dirvers) and direct it to the folder containing Udi's audio driver. If I recall correctly it is the WDM file. You can't really go wrong as it will only update or install a driver from the correct folder using this method.

You need to update them through the device manager, devmgmt.msc. The device manager is the easier way. The exact instructions are on this site or even this thread somewhere, unfortunately NOT in the driver pack readme.txt . If I remember correctly you need to select the second from top IDE controller and Update Driver for it.

Making the slipstream is the more difficult option plus it means you have to re-install XP. The drivers for it are the exact same drivers which reside under the lazy method directory.

    Udi,

This forum and the collected works of everyone here have saved my bacon reimaging two new XPS M1530's to XP. It was a big help, thanks to everyone involved. I'm currently experiencing the Standby/Hibernate lockup issue, which appears to be related to the video drivers. I just recently discovered this final version of the driver pack and will try the drivers there.

    Again much obliged!!

Excuse my noobness, but do I still select/install/slipstream the same SATA/AHCI driver - Intel 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH8M-E/M) - if I upgrade to a larger harddrive (Hitachi 5K320)?

The LaptopVideo2Go drivers all seem to work fine with Sleep/Hibernate functionality - at least they have been on the 1530's in our office.

I've been using the latest release without any problems whatsoever.

This is how I did it after installing XP (taken from page 10 of this thread):

"As far as AHCI/RAID drivers I went to device manager, IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers then found the correct storage controller and updated the driver using the 'have disk' method (be sure to select F6 floppy folder and use the file "iaahci.ifn" and reboot, go in to BIOS (or you'll blue screen) and set the controller to AHCI. Boot again and it will say found new hardware, it will configure it, then require a reboot again. Then I was able to install Matrix Storage Manager."

Hey guys I have gone through 4 cd's so far and no luck. I've downloaded so many different drivers and tried making a bootable windows xp cd and it worked a few times but then I would have the wrong driver for the harddrive and it wouldnt be dertected or i would get a BSOD and it'd say that it is most probably a driver error. I was just wondering, which drivers should I include in the nlite iso I make. I am only really worried about the hard drive being detected. Do I include the drivers in the udi/AHCI/Floppy_method? the other one is a windows self extractor so I used the floppy_method ones but no luck : /

i just follow the tut and with nlite i only installed the HD driver for SATA (and another name..cause i found it in BIOS..) i only installed just that one file so that when i insert the nlite modded window xp, it would detect the darn SATA HD that my m1530 has.. also note i only had issue with wireless + bluetooth, but that got solved with a driver from m1730 since same dam wirelss card but only m1730 had a window xp version...working great so far, i didnt bother to fix the bluetooth issue

Which wireless card do you have? The Intel 3945 is flaky as hell for me. Sometimes just turns the antenna off after resuming from sleep/hibernate.

I may buy the standard 1390 card to see if that helps.

If you have not yet installed the drivers for the memory card reader you should have 3 yellow 'bang' icons under device manager. Right click them each one and tell it to update driver. Use the have disk method and direct it to the file folder containing the Card Reader drivers from Udi's download. It took me a couple of tries to figure out which was which but don't worry as it can't install the wrong driver. It will just tell you it can't find the driver if you choose the wrong one.

I have the same problem. I never actually installed the card reader drivers either, and using the "Have Disk" method to forcefully update the Ricoh drivers results in a blue screen and a reboot. My current theory is that this will start working once my hard drive works in AHCI mode because they use the same controller.

Udi, I tried the wireless drivers from http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=3426423&postcount=92 and they work for the Dell 1505 wireless card. It would be very good to have them as part of your download. Thanks for doing that!

I've been unable to get my hard drive back to using AHCI post-XP install. I've followed the advice of many users who have kindly posted to this forum, but no luck. My next step might be to slipstream the drivers ...

    Greetings all.

I actually joined this forum so that I could post my heart-felt thanks to UDI - and to others as well for their contributions - including Mike Keefer. Been lurking here till now.

About 3 weeks ago my old laptop finally died and one of the main criteria I had in getting a new laptop was finding one with the ability to efficiently run XP. (I'm an XP guy all the way ... and like many others I loathe Vista and have had 1st hand experience in working with it and in setting it up on a couple of HP laptops for my kids.) To be honest, I find it to be a more modern version of Windows ME :) (another wonderful cash grab from our friends in Redmond) in terms of tedium, terrible lack luster performance, incredibly cumbersome boot times (4-5 minutes till everything settles), a horrible resource hog and, seemingly designed to cater to mostly novice and inexperienced users with its annoying and repetitive safeguards.

I was contemplating getting a DELL and the model I was leaning towards was the XPS M1530. After a series of net searches about XP compatibility on the M1530 I came across this forum and read every single post - some 2 or 3 times. I also did a little of my own research on XP driver availability.

But the deal maker for me in deciding on the Dell, was UDI's posting of the comprehensive driver package. We should be buying this guy beers for a year for his dedication!!!

About a week and a half ago I picked up my M1530. This particular one came with a T5550 Intel Core Duo 1.83 GHz/667 MHz processor, 3 gigs of ram, 250 gig 5400 SATA drive, 128meg NVidia 8400 GS, Dell 1505 Wireless card, 85 hour 9 cell Lithium Battey and in tuxedo black.

I had a very smooth experience in installing UDI's driver package. I followed his instructions to the letter (and did not use the "lazy" method) as I already had a USB floppy. I also had a copy of XP Pro (corporate edition) kicking around and used that.

The only 2 drivers I ended up changing from UDI's package were the ones for the wireless card preferring instead the Intel driver for the 4965AGN Wireless WiFi - as it seemed to do a better job of detecting and connecting to the D-LINK DIR-625 wireless router in my home, and I also replaced the packaged NVidia driver with the upgraded one Mike Keefer previously directed us to (version 177.35) Thanks for that Mike as well as for the updated Intel chipset drivers. :)

Took me a few days to tweak it and get all my software on it, but now it just screams. It is easily 5-7 times faster at everything than it was when Vista was preloaded on it. An no issues after adding and installing XP Service Pack 3.

Udi's instructions (non Lazy method) provided a flawless setup. No issues. No blue screens. Boots (talking looking at the desktop - with no major hard drive activity remaining) in under a minute. Networks beautifully. And runs my favourite golf game Links 2003, flawlessly.

I also downloaded and used the upgraded Intel Chipset to update a few of the drivers. The only driver that just wouldn't update (in spite of the instructions being posted) was the one listed in my Device Mgr. under IDE/ATAPI controllers : Intel(R) ICH8M Ultra ATA Storage Controller - 2850. If anyone knows where I can get this specific driver that'd be great. But disk caching is enabled thanks to the other updates..so I'm not sweating this.

Kudos to you UDI and everyone else who contributed to this thread.
    I'm a happy guy.

I managed to get my hard drive back to AHCI mode using this post. Slipstreaming and other methods didn't work for me. :)

I still have a problem with the card reader. Every driver I've found for the Ricoh card reader gives me the blue screen when installed. I've gone to Dell's web site and downloaded their latest driver, but it also blue-screens. Still looking ....

Otherwise the installation went very well and the M1530 is awesome!

The move to Windows XP Pro from Vista Home Professional was really quite effortless thanks to Udi's driver compilation and instructions. My device manager kept saying there was still a USB device that was without a driver, and the only thing I could figure out was that it was talking about my logitech laptop mouse with the USB receiver plugged in... that was the only USB device I had plugged in!

The real question though is whether anyone has found drivers for the Soundblaster Audigy MB Advanced hardware. Obviously the disk that came with the laptop is for Vista. Thanks for any information on where these drivers might be found.

I paid Creative $20. to get a download and license to use Audigy Advanced MB with my XP install. Failed miserably. Multiple emails and phone calls, got my $20. refunded.
Bottem line: Don't bother with it IMO.

Well, as I said in an earlier post, the XP install went quite well. I am still faced with the pesky "Welcome to the Found New Harware Wizard" and it wants to install software for a USB Device. I have only two USB ports; the USB receiver for my Logitech notebook mouse (which has been "installed") is occupying one, and there is no other USB device plugged into the other USB port.

Looking in Device Manager, the only yellow ? is next to "Other Devices" USB Device. I ran a properties" on the USB Device and it showed "Device type: Other devices", "Manufacturer: Unknown", and "Location: Location 0 (USB Device)". As a clue I went over to the "Details" tab; under "Device Instances Id" was "USB\VID_413C&PID_8145\5&161A1BCB&0&4". Under "Hardware IDs" were "USB\VID_413C&PID_8145&REV_100" and "USB\VID_413c&Pid_8145".

I don't know if those are enough clues to suggest what might NOT have installed properly, but I sure would appreciate some feedback if anyone else has encountered this.

I tried to stay as bare bones as possible. My invoice shows: Dell Wireless 400 Ultra-wideband Mini card;Intel4965AGN Wireless-N mini card, and that appears to be about it. Think one of these could be the culprit? I did install the wireless drivers that UDI had compiled. Even so, the "Other Device"/USB Device is still there looking for drivers.

yeah, that sounds a lot like the dell wireless 400 (wireless usb), if you really think you're going to use it, heres the vista driver:
    http://support.dell.com/support/dow...-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=5&fileid=227315
but i have no idea where to look for an XP driver, so i doubt the above link will work.
if you dont foresee using it in the near future, you can just disable it in the device manager and the window asking for drivers wont pop up anymore

Doesn't the driver from Dell work? Try uninstalling and reinstalling the driver. But is there any error you are getting or the card simply refuses to function?

I've downloaded Udi's driverset at Megaupload.

The AHCI-files (floppy method) are dated september 2007 and october 2007.

I doubt if these files are the june 2008 version (write caching support).

Can someone help me out and -if necessary- lead me tot the correct files?

    @fiveo

    Thank you for the link.
    I'm expecting my M1530 today and will configure a dual-boot system (XP/Vista).

Too bad the published driverset (at Megaupload) doesn't contain Udi's latest additions as he intended (see Udi's quote in my post).

    Thanks again.

Claude21, I used Udi's driver pack and the installation was flawless. Don't worry about the dates, it will work fine.

    hii there udi..!!
Thank you so much for the driver pack..
I tried out the non-floppy method (so called Lazy method) of installation and it worked perfectly fine. XP is up and running all fine.

But there are two problems i encountered with after XP installation.
    1) I am not able to switch back from ATA to ACHI..
Installing the setup provided in the "..\ACHI\Lazy_Method" is giving an error message stating, "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing this software, Setup will Exit"

    2) The Device Manager is still showing 3 unknown devices, all 3 named "Base System Device"

Someone please help me with these problems..!!

zipzap, this should do it for you. From my post dated 7/5/08:

As far as AHCI/RAID drivers I went to device manager, IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers then found the correct storage controller and updated the driver using the 'have disk' method (be sure to select F6 floppy folder and use the file "iaahci.ifn" and reboot, go in to BIOS (or you'll blue screen) and set the controller to AHCI. Boot again and it will say found new hardware, it will configure it, then require a reboot again. Then I was able to install Matrix Storage Manager and I'm up and running!

PROBLEM RESOLVED..!! XP installation now completely successful... :)

thanks for the post fiveo.. but then there was another problem that arose on performing what you had mentioned. The model to be selected after choosing "iaahci.inf" was a big problem.
But then this final problem was resolved by the post below:

    Nice work overall

I've found some things you might want to address in the next version:

    1. In order to get "Hibernate" to always show on the shutdown menu, similar to dell inspiron 6400 series, you need to install the hotfix from microsoft mentioned in KB Article Number(s): 893056. This hot fix was NOT updated or included win sp3 came out, so you HAVE to install this PRIOR to an install of sp3. Have not tried it slipstreamed yet.

    2. Audigy HD Audio does not work, seems it can't find drivers. It would be really nice if this could be made to function

    3. it would be killer if the Intel pro wireless app was included with the drivers. Same with the fingerprint reader software.

I did not follow your guide, but thanks to your pack, i was able to finish getting xp installed. I used a black xp install base with driverpacks from the driverpack project. If you haven't already, I'd highly suggest submitting this pack over there to be included in that project.

i'll be coming back to this to figure out the lazy method for the hard drive performance improvement.

Thanks for putting all this together. I have a question, though...

Does anyone know how to enable the microphone for playback? I have tried a couple of methods I found online, to no avail. There is supposed to be a registry key called "DisableMicFromPlayback" that you alter to get the mic input to play through the headphones, but I can't find it. Is there a way to do this with this driver package? I need to be able to monitor myself on mic. Thanks.
