i have the xps m1530 and also i was installed all the drivers except the Bluetooth driver?
i was tried everything that was post on the last 15 pages and still no bluetooth.
i have an windows xp service pack 3.
someone have an idea? -
-
Has anyone managed to get Dell Bluetooth Mouse working with all this?
-
Thank you UDI, you rock!
-
Saw someone else had brought this up but there were no responses... I'm having trouble hibernating. Sometimes it will hibernate successfully, but other times (maybe 25% of the time), the screen will just blank out. I tried waiting but nothing happens. I just installed all the drivers from Udi's pack without any mods.
I've done all I can to make this computer feel like "my own" (including taking out the keyboard by myself to get rid of the hump in the middle), and this is the last and only thing that's bothering me. Any help appreciated, thanks!
EDIT: Thanks Udi and everyone else involved for your contributions! -
Can anyone help me with two very quick questions:
1. are you successfully getting sound over HDMI under windows XP using these drivers?
2. what audio drivers are you using? -
I haven't used the HDMI but I'm using the Sigmatel Audio driver from Udi's pack version A-11 according to the notepad note in the pack. Seems to work well with no issues so far.
-
I am unable to get my wireless working, despite using Udi's Wireless Drivers.
Does anyone have a fix for this?
I have my bluetooth working fine though. -
Which wireless card do you have?
-
I'm having the same issue as UBTCHA posted above. The only way I've eliminated the issue is to disable the Bluetooth adapter in the BIOS. I've poured over these notes and tried using the complete driver package provided here and it includes the piece from the Europe site. That driver package has two sub-folders in the Bluetooth folder, a "1" and "2.' Number one appears to be the same as the one from the European site and when you click on the apparent executable you get a quick flash of a DOS window and then it closes. Nothing appears to change. Can someone that has the Bluetooth and/or wireless USB tell us step-by-step how to get them enabled?
Thanks much,
Phil -
Dell Wireless 1395 WLAN Mini-Card.
And, i also found out, my touchpad doesnt work either :O -
http://ftp.us.dell.com/comm/R159896.EXE
As far as the touchpad, have you installed the Alps drivers from the Touchpad folder in Udi's pack? -
Will these drivers work for XP 64-bit?
-
-
. It truely sucks that I can't get this working now.
Ubi, I followed your instructions... I don't have a floppy drive (and didn't need one the first time I 'upgraded' to xp)
edit: this is the original post I followed for a spotless xp install. Took me a while to find it, but I'll follow the instructions and let you guys know. -
You might try opening the cover and looking up the specific model name. -

The Vista driver for the wireless USB adapter works for XP also. The problem is in the installation routine which is artificially hobbled to only work on Vista. You can launch the install routine, but it will bark at you that you are not running Vista. It is at this point that you can snag the .msi install file from your user temp directory. Once you have the .msi file you can do whatever you want. using the msiexec /a option for an administrative install, you can extract all of the files and then perform a manual driver installation. Alternatively, I've placed the driver files into the 3rd Party DriverPack Misc over at driverpacks.net. This will only install the driver during PnP enumeration during the T-39 stage of XP setup. You then only need to copy the utility over post install.
To make things a little easier, I've extracted everything and put it in a 7-zip file. From there you can get it going...

Hi
I've been using these XP drivers for couple of weeks and everything was fine until someday bluetooth stopped working. Tray icon disappeared and all I could see was error "cannot load btrez.dll". I've tried reinstalling drivers but after a few days the problem comes back. Any ideas ? -
if anyone has managed to get sound via the HDMI port, could you explain if you've done something special or just installed the audio driver. I installed the driver but i can't get any sound via the HDMI port...
-
I have loaded this driver pack from UDI...OUTSTANDING and works great....However I cannnnot for the life of me get this 8600m GT video driver to work...I've tried all sorts of drivers...I keep getting a error "The currently selected graphics display driver can not be used. It was written for a previous version of Windows, and is no longer compatible with the version of Windows. The system has started using the default VGA driver. "
Can anybody PLEASEEEEEE help?
Not sure what happened, I deleted all drivers and restarted, it seems to be working ok...
Anybody know what this is :
Also SM Bus Controller? -

udi does this nvidia driver give reasonable fps?? and is there any stuttering issue??
-
I just went through this install process, and it's worked pretty well except a couple problems.
1. When I try to do the AHCI thing via the "lazy method", I get an error of:
"This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing this software. Setup will exit."
2. I cannot for the life of me get the wifi drivers to work. In have disk, I navigate to the wireless folder, and no matter which of the three INF files I pick I get:
"The specified location does not contain information about your hardware"
Can anyone help? -
Nevermind on #2, I was able to install the XP drivers from the m1730 fine.
Still stuck on #1 though. -
Hello all,
It has been quite some time since my last postings in regards to the XPS M1530 system and things have not been good so I figured I would alert everyone here to the problems I have had with the unit(s) themselves.
I received my first 1530 in March of 2008 and at first it seemed fine, yes it ran a little warm (XP or Vista) but within weeks the hardware problems began. First the HD developed bad sectors which just kept getting worse over time (indicating some form of debris or breakaway in the unit). Dell sent a replacement and so I continued on. Then lets just say all hell broke loose, fingerprint reader failed 100% (Stock Vista Image and XP), then the IR receiver for the remote went dead (tested the actual remote by pointing it at a video camera, it was outputting light)... the list goes on.
I spent hours on the phone with Dell getting the usual BS, did you try to reboot, what bios are you running ? (Nothing in this world is more insulting than having some moron with 12 hours training walking me through what in essense are three finger salute solutions). When I say hours, I mean more than 15 (and that was just the first 1530) between tech support and customre service.
Finally I made enough noise they offered to replace the unit. Knowing how Dell operates, I informed them that I would not accept a "Rebuilt" unit and I wanted a brand new one (hoping quality control was at fault durring the assembly line process). It took a few more hours but they gave in and sent out at new one.
When received the new 1530 (which they had generously upgraded to 6GB but not to a 64 bit version of Vista) had Bios Revision A09 (previous I was using A08). A new feature problem popped up, the unit prior had always gotten hot but now with this new bios it just shut down. No blue screen, no event logging, no bios boot warnings about thermal condition causing shutdown, just reboot itself. So back to the tech support people I turned. Days went by and more issues reared their head some the same IR receiver port went dead, ir remote actually became stuck in the express slot (the spring latch just stopped working), the lights which where supposed to come up when pressing pause or volume up / down were so dim I couldn't even see them anymore and the benchmark tests (3dmark06 under XP and windows Vista Performance index all dropped considerably). So after about 4-5 hours worth of time on the phone with my near insistance they simply refund my purchase price and take the darn thing back, I agreed to have a technician come out and replace the motherboard.
While he was doing the replacement I was taking macro photographs of both the initial motherboard and the new one. Though I won't get into the whole gist of the technical issues I saw in the design... there are numerous flaws with the core design of the XPS M1530 motherboard layout (I have held a Tech Class Ham License since I was 12 which roughly = Long Experience at electronics engineering at PCB level). Also I noted the new cooling fans they are using with replacement motherboards and they are far inferior to the original (different vendor I guess). So as I was documenting the hardware design flaws I was picking the technicians brains about what I clearly saw as flaws, he told me that the quality control has gone far down hill over the past year and that he had very similar problems (some of the same) with his own XPS M1330 and 1730. He gladly volunteered to tell me that I was missing 4 internal screws which were critical in nature and believe me when I say I kept this second unit bone stock, replaced nothing except the AV (to Nod32) and had never opened it. He said that this is becomming more and more common.
I hoped that my problems would be over but alas they were no better, one or two of the same hw issues but also now I was experiencing artifcacts in my display which had never been there before, the touch pad went all haywire (reboots did not help) and then the camera went.
Finally I had it!
I spent about another 5-6 hours arguing (durring prime time billable minutes) with customer service and finally a technical support manager whom I strongly suspect was the HEAD MANAGER agreed to accept my XPS and refund my money but get this the joker wanted me to pay for the shipping costs.
Please understand, I was patient and calm the entire time with these people, slowly building my case (better put giving them enough rope to hang themselves) but I was without a stable, working system from the middle of March until the beginning week of October (hardware not software), that's 7 months, thousands of minutes on the phone and this guy wanted me to pay for my own return.
The following day I called customer care, explained the situation and stressed that though I love the 1530 if it were stable it just isn't (two machines, three if you count the replacement motherboard is no coincidence). She sent me printable UPS labels to return the unit.
I finally was given credit on my Amex on 10/17/2008.
I contacted the EPP (Employee Purchase Program) sales person whom I purchased the initial system from not wanting him to loose his commission, explained the whole ordeal and asked him to just be straight with me and let me know if there was somthing comparable in performance, resolution but which would be stable. I explained that I would be happy to stay with Dell (the desktops have never been a problem and I move between 250K - 400K USD worth a year of optiplex for point of sale systems in my side business for them).
The sales rep spent some time looking and suggested a Studio 1537 which runs the new Centrino 2 (1100 mhz FSB, 800 mhz DDR2) and I went with the T`9400 (2.53GHZ) which was a slight bump from what I had (the 1530s were 800mhz FSB, 667 DDR2 and I had a 2.4 GHZ). I ordered this using my EPP discount (considerable), details: Studio 1537, Intel Core 2 Duo T9400, 2.53GHz, 1066Mhz, 6M L2Cache, 4GB 800MHZ DDR2, Backlit Keyboard, Hi Resolution, glossy widescreen 15.4 inch display (1920x1200), 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450 (which was the only dedicated graphics card option), 320 GB HD, 2M Webcam, 8X Slot Load CD / DVD Burner (Dual Layer DVD+/-R Drive), Integrated bluetooth, Express Card bluetooth remote control, both an 85 whr and a 54 whr battery, 3 year full onsite next day warranty + accidental damage coverage and lojack, and some other items which don't matter.
The order was placed on 10/22/2008. The customer service person was supposed to expedite it through production and overnight it to me. It finaly shipped on 11/14/2008 and I received it 11/17/2008. I was thrilled for all of an hour (basically until after I had opened the box and done a full ghost backup image).
The first thing I realized was the backlighted keyboard wouldn't work unless I really forced one of the landing buttons (F or J) down though it was supposed to be on at all times when enabled... I thought, big deal... that can be resolved and the screen was beautiful plus the cooling was changed and seemed much more effective (these units and the XPS are based on nearly identical designs). I began checking for the remote... no remote!, I noticed the bluetooth light was not on so I checked the underside for the FCC sticker and there was none. That led me to examine each of the pieces of hardware which were there and the driver versions. 7 drivers just weren't installed, 5 were out of date (but were released by dell long before the unit shipped). I fixed these issues and thought that I would just deal with the missing parts and such since they were (or would be) minor issues to resolve.
Finally (and here folks is where it gets scarey) I went to the Windows performance index and did the update my index. My score: 4.0! ***, even my old XPS M1530 gave me a 4.8 with the limiting factor being the RAM speed. So I broke out 3DMark06 and ran the basic test... result: below 1400, the XPS with all dell drivers was giving me 34XX and when tweaked I got it to over 4800!
I called tech support and explained the low graphics scores for Aero and graphics and asked if this was perhaps defective. Response they gave me was that the video card, Radeon 3450 HD Mobility was only capable of a 4.0 rating. Mind you all my other indicators were 5.6 or better with my RAM now 5.9. I asked if they had any other video card for this model, the support person informed me it is to be expected with integrated video!!!!!!!!
I supressed my rage and explained that this is a dedicated, discrete video card and surely there must be another alternative. Short answer, none!
I contacted the customer support woman again, every day this week and finally got an email back tonight (just before she left for the weekend) saying that she had no idea how to resolve this and asked for my suggestions since I am obviously more technically inclined than her, their tech support and apparently their engineers! Whoah.
They say flattery will get you everywhere but not in this case. I can't get in touch with the engineers to determine if whatever was plaguing the XPS M1530's I received has been corrected, they have not upgraded the M1530 to use the new Centrino 2 yet so it's still stuck at 800 mhz bus and the precision laptops they offer are great for CAD but not for all of what I do (Programming, Graphics Design, Web Design, SQL Server Performance Engineering and yes the occassional game) not to mention they are nearly 1500 USD more even with my excellent discount.
I thought to turn to alienware until I realized they were purchased by Dell and their 15.4" model is basically the same as the 1530 just much more expensive and sans the fingerprint scanner and DL able DVD drive.
So I have no real alternative than to throw in the towel and return the unit (I could upgrade the graphics processor myself I assume it uses ATI's standard Axiom but it could also be nvidia MXM, or the propriatary "Dell Slot") but who knows what vbios issues that could introduce and there isn't alot of info out there on it.
Just thought I would share my knowledge in the hopes that it helps someone before they end up in my position.
Regards,
Mike Keefer
PS: UTI, sorry for the lengthy post but I figured people should know this! -
sorry for bringing up the old topic but i installed win XP using this driver pack so i decided to post a reply
ok I just wanted to say that the Inspirion 1525 touchpad / pointer drivers for win XP are compatible with the XPS 1530 drivers
I needed some of the touchpad settings that i had when i used vista and i managed to find them in these drivers
blah i jouned the forum just to post the link for the touchpad drivers but i'm not allowed to post URLs until i get like 15 posts
so go grab the Inspirion 1525 drivers for Windows XP from the dell website on your own
also the new 180.44.1 custom forceware by Dox from laptopvideo2go works nice -
Anyone been able to get the fingerprint reader working with XP? I downloaded the drivers in this driver pack, but I don't see any way to actually configure it, do I need to download some 3rd party software for it?
Also the lighting around the touch-sensitive media buttons seems to be MUCH dimmer now, and there's no on screen display when you press the buttons for volume, etc. Is there a way to get this working on XP? -
well just take a look at my post above yours
I used the UDI pack with two exceptions
my video drivers are the Dox custom forceware from the forum 180.44.1 for XP from laptopvideo2go dot com
aaand i put the dell inspirion 1525 drivers for Dell touchpad / pointing device for XP from the dell support site (it says drivers by Alps or something)
now i can easily access the old mouse options i had under Vista when i go to control panel and open the Mouse settings - it's on the first page of settings
I don't know anything about your issues with the lighting below the touch sensitive buttons - i got no issues with them
also i get on screen display when i touch the volume buttons (didnt get it on Vista Hope Premium the Dell way)
i'm not sure if this helps but first of all i set Dell Media Direct, then isntalled Win XP SP2 (i had put the sata drivers inside with nlite beforehand), afterwards i updated drivers --> AV program + spybot -->installed media direct --> downloaded SP3 and installed it --> installed additional updates --> installed the inspirion drivers on top of the drivers from this thread
this is pretty much most of the steps I did when installing win Xp -
Hey Guys, I installed XP on my XPS 1530 without any issues but there is no audio and screen is not working fine when I scroll its very slow.
I tried all the links for downloading drivers but none work.
When try to install drivers from dell website, it says OS not compatible.
can I use -s on cmd to install, may be it will override the OS
any help -
if u wanna use drivers from dell site try drivers for Inspirion 1525 for the parts that are sold for both the inspirion and xps series (like webcam, fingerprint reader, sigmatel audio , etc.)
there should be OEM drivers for the NVIDIA cards but i'm not sure - u can get alternative (and in many cases better except for the iss
ues with the sleep/hibernate modes ) drivers from laptopvideo2go
so go and grab some drivers from the dell website (audio) from the Inspirion 1525 series
or you can also try searching for a SigmaTel website - i couldn't find one -
Just so you know there is a new version of nVidia forceware driver out on the nVidia website. it is WHQL 178.24. Not sure if it will work or has an equiv. on laptop video 2 go but it's worth looking into.
Personally I am looking into getting an HP dv5t with the 1066 FSB, P9400 (2.53 GHZ), 4 GB 800 mhz ram and the nvidia 512MB 9600M GT.
Using a very similiar setup (desktop) with nVidia driver 180.48 I was able to hit 3DMark06 benchmark above 11000 = )
I have just had it with Dell. The XPS is supposed to be the flagship, top of the line but still runs 800 mhz FSB with 667 mhz ddr2 ram.
Hope it helps
-Mike -
When I try to install NVIDIA drivers, the system not detecting the NVIDIA card. It says no hardware found for installation.

Thanks a lot for your Driver Pack Udi !!!
FYI... the latest M1530 available (and compatible) drivers for Udi's pack are:
"Intel Matrix Storage Manager" its file version 12.0.49974 from 2 October 2008, filename: iata86enu.exe.
"Intel Chipset Device Software" its file version 1.1.15.0 from 2 May 2008, filename: infinst_autol.exe.
and
nVidia 178.13 for XP from laptopvideo2go
**
Also, for issues ralated about "enable AHCI" under WinXP, you may want to check post #84 at " M1330: Got AHCI working under WinXP... no slipstream CD, no floppy drive." thread here: forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=4249596#post4249596
**
One more thing...
At this point, I'm not really sure what to do with the "ICH8M UltraATA Storage Controllers - 2850" as it continue undisturbed under the Device Manager's IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers list.
Looks like there is no need at all to mess with it in order to enable the AHCI (once you already have used the "Intel ICH8M 3-port SATA Controller - 2828" just for that)... although Mike Keefer kind of "updated the drivers for every ICH8x controler" that he could find (including the ICH8M UltraATA using the same manual process with the extracted "Intel Matrix Storage Manager" iata86enu.exe files) and everythig works out just fine (for him).
Ideas ?
See you all... round n' around -
Looks like everything is at it should be
"ICH8M UltraATA Storage Controllers - 2850" its listed as such under Vista Device Manager too and also use the same Intel drivers 8.2.0.1011 (from 2006) as our current WinXp does (or should do).
Be well -
So if my DVD drive is reading CDs/DVDs but won't write CDs/DVDs, which driver should I install?
-
anyone has the bluetooth drivers for xps 1530 vith xp sp3? Those from the first page doesn't seem to work.
In device manager at other devices I have usb device with excl. point, and it must be the bluetooth because it appears only when I activate it. -
can any body help me to solve this..
i am using XP in my XPS m1530. but after installing XP my cd sriting showing failed each time. but DVD burns fine.. pls help me to fix this -
Anyone here by chance Play wow on a m1530 under XP or notice any speedstep issues?
even under games often intel speedstep will go from 12.5X muliplier to 6.0 over and over during games and a load.... its quite annoyingHELP!!!
-
Hi, I hope some1 can help me here.... I am close to throwing my laptop through my living room window in frustration....
I have been reading and rereading these threads for 2 days looking for a solution to my problems...
I decided to install the xp operating system after vista kept crashing repeatedly...... I followed the instructions on this sight but I am having a few problems....
1. i cannot install "Intel Matrix Storage Manager"
2.When I try to do the AHCI thing via the "lazy method", I get an error of:
"This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing this software. Setup will exit."
3. I can not find a wireless driver that works, I have tried so many drivers......installed and uninstalled so much that I accedentily removed the thing comletely..........
I am at my wits end........ any suggestions??
I have successfully installed xp over vista in other laptops before without problems but this 1 is making me feel like a complete moron!!!
Thanx in advance!! -
is it the XP 32 Bit version of the AHCI driver, and are you not using the raid driver...
-
Ok, when I do this I get the following error: The specified location does not contain imformation about your hardware.
I have checked and double checked, the file is there but not reconized.
I tried installing the wireless and the only thing that changed is that I now have a big yellow question mark where the wireless should be! Any ideas?? -
I have a bit of a tangential question;
Has anyone compared performance figures from XP to Win7? Last time I checked, XP still held about a 10% performance gain over Vista and I'm assuming this will hold (somewhat) true when compared to Win7...
I just got an M1530 and have already thrown Win7 on it to check it out but I am debating whether to stick with it or downgrade to XP.
Thanks for any thoughts. -
Also are you using 32bit or 64bit? -
I am using 32bit. -
You can install a program like Screenshot Captor, and take screenshot by pressing the "print screen" button. Post the thumbnail here.
Did you read the #84 post in the 2nd link i gave you? I think it may be because you didnt select your AHCI driver properly. -
Sounds either like it may lie with memory or the HDD, do a memtest and a scandisk.

XPS M1530 Windows XP Driver Pack (Final) by Udi
