Which dell number do you need to call to get you order number once your exchange is in "parts ordered" state?
-
hit the "my account" page on dell.com and it should show you there in eithe r"my orders" or "service calls status"....
-
if it's not in your account, you may need to 'add' it in by using the service call number to search for it in order status search page.
-
After 6 weeks with 4 weeks in the build stage I have moved to boxing. Hopefully everyone will start moving along now.
-
Congrats.
My replacement just got revised and upgraded so I will have to wait it out from the beginning again... -
what was upgraded? How did you manage to get upgrades?
-
Just small things. My system would have shipped with Win 7 Pro, but I asked them to upgrade that to Ultimate, which they did and restarted the building process. It saves me from having to upgrade to Ultimate in the future
-
It's tough getting them to throw in upgrades, but I guess I have no right to complain. Doesn't hurt to try though.
-
ok.. don't know why but it seems the order for my replacement system has been cancelled. When I tried to contact them they said their systems were down and they couldn't tell me anything.
-
pwned by dell system failures
-
Well, according to the person in charge of my replacement, he told me that Dell can cancel replacements because of several reasons.
1. Your replacement is over the replacement budget, meaning your new system is much higher in costs than your previous, in which they will offer you a refund or credit.
2. Your replacement has been canceled because there is another replacement shipping to you. I have experienced this so many times now as everything I get something upgraded in the replacement, they cancel and create a new order.
3. This ties in closely with the first reason. The Dell cancellation team deemed your replacement unreasonable and canceled your order. They will instead offer you refund or credit.
I hope your order was canceled because something was upgraded, but these are the reasons I know Dell will cancel your order for. I'm pretty sure there are more reasons than these, but I hope this can put your mind at ease for the moment. -
are you sure about canceling because of being over budget? My replacement is definitely over budget and it hasn't been canceled...
Also how did you manage to get a i7 920?? i had the t9300 and they gave me the i7 720... hows that fair... -
Yup, that's what my guy told me. I too am way over budget, right now I am about $2k over or so, and he told me just to wait it out, stay low, and not ask for expedited or any more upgrades, because there is a chance that the cancellation team might step in and cancel altogether.
I got the specs of my replacement because of my history with Dell, think of it as reimbursement for months of errors and problems on their end. I would have gotten the i7 720 as well if it wasn't for my history, so I wouldn't worry so much. I don't think you can argue so much to upgrading more than the i7 720 because the t9300 was a dual core, vs i7 720 with a quad core, but if you want to give it a try, argue away.
Personally, I think they are just trying to scare us from asking for upgrades because they will be at a loss. But in either case, I would be better of safe than sorry.
-
Ugh, I hope it's not overbudget considering its a pretty base laptop with just a processor upgrade and intel. I just dont want this to delay this process any longer.
A quick update: Apparently they've made some changes to my replacement and I will be getting a new order # soon. -
Congrats, its always good to see people getting upgrades.
I still am not sure how long the whole process will take to build and ship with all these backlogs in parts, but hopefully it will be delivered soon! Now if only Dell would give me an estimated delivery date... -
not sure if it'll be upgrades. My rep said the team denied my requests last time, but we will see.
-
hi all, Im back with bad news.
Having 3 years warranty ,a Dell's Terms&Conditions Statement and EU laws behind my back I was sure, getting my replacement wouldnt be a problem.
After few calls to Customer Relations Office nothing has moved !
Three managers told me the same- no replacement !
What should I do next ? I got a postal adress to Dell's Esacalation Office. Does anybody has a phone number ?
Last manager miss Sukanya told me, only money refund is avaible for me , because XPS m1730 are not in production, when i mentioned Alienwares, she said they are "different line of service" ? ? ?
Is there any other action I could make ? before last resort of legal action ?
All help will be very appriciated, my email is avaible on private messege. -
can't see how you can take legal action on Dell when they are offering you a refund. from what i've read, Dell takes a hard line on individuals who 'directly' ask for a replacement. why not just take the refund and get your alienware that way?
-
If I take a refund im missing 636Euro to buy an alienware x17 with 3 year warranty , 1920:800 screen and 320Gb hard disk....
Getting a replacement is my only option for having a gaming laptop now.
I dont know why customers in Eorupe are aproached in a different way than those from States... -
I'm from the UK and I'm in the same boat as you mate, I took as the refund as I don't have any intention of buying another laptop and they offered me alot more for mine than I paid for mine and it's basically the same as the equivelent m17x would be anyway, I can see yours is a higher spec than mine so I'm guessing they should offer you a bit more than me as you have 8800m gtx's.
I know Dell sometime's get funny about replacements especially if you didn't buy the laptop form Dell directly I had to pretend that I'd bought from them and that I'd changed my card details since they couldn't find a record of me on their system, apart from that I can't offer alot more advice really I would keep pushing for an upgrade though as I know a few people on here who have been upgraded from an m1730 to an m17x who are from the UK so it has been done. -
order shipped, be here tomorrow morning
-
Finally hit the boxing stage.
-
Sigh this is ridiculous, I've been told that I won't get the new system specs until this Saturday. From others who have had this happen It doesn't seem like they've just restarted the whole process, but it's like I'm back to square one again.
-
Nice.
I have a tracking number. I'll have it by 3 pm tomorrow.
-
Well... somewhat good news today
I have a missed call from dell earlier and check my v-mail and I hear a recording with some info about putting my exchange unit in the mail...
I'm wondering what is up as I knew I hadnt heard from anyone with any specs or anything concerning a replacement.
Well about an hour ago..I get a knock on the door..delivery...it's a brown dell box.
They sent me a refurb'd m1730...which isn't a bad thing It was just kinda a let down. No m17x new toys for me I guess.. I had the one system spec that dell can still give a refurb to instead of a costly replacement.
I still love my beast but had been blinded by the thoughts of the new toys everyone else was getting.
I'm hoping this new one doesn't have any more problems like my current beast.
I did get some upgrades, went from a T8300 (2.4) to T9300 (.2.5) processor, 2gb to 4gb ram, 200gb hd to 320 gb, and from Vista Home to Ultimate.
Just wanted to update everyone. Guess I'll be sticking around the beast forums for a while longer!!! -
awsuum! when excatly did you learn that its on that stage? and how? through the automated phone order status? i was actually waiting to hear from you coz you wer just 2-3 days ahead of me during the order creation stage. That's great news.
-
I've just been calling the automated phone line and today the automated voice finally blurted out "boxing" instead of "build."
Yours should go to boxing soon too because I'm sure it was just the parts causing the delays for both of us. -
got mine!! its so sexy... woot woot
-
Received mine today, it only came with the one video card and the tech I had been dealing with wouldn't do anything about it so I called the alienware tech support line explained that I had received my replacement notebook today but it only came with the one video card. I gave him my old service tag to show him that I had dual video cards, he put me on hold to talk with his supervisor, they have now put in a request for a tech to come and install a second video card as well as replacing the ac adapter (it came with the 150 watt adapter) as I will need the 240 watt adapter for the dual video cards.
After I get the video card installed I will call back and see if they will extend my warranty for the 5 months I lost on not having a working notebook. -
Congrats to all those who have received their replacement.
I finally got the new order, and I'm really happy to say that they seem to have given me everything I've asked for. I can't wait to get it. -
Oh, don't worry. You will......
-
hit the "Boxing" stage now..
any idea on how long will it take till it gets shipped? -
It took mine 4 days before it shipped.
I just got it an hour ago. It It only took 44 days since I was offered the replacement. So far I'm very happy with it. Hopefully they start rolling them out now for everyone. -
it stays in boxing for a few days. "boxing" is the process of shipping the box from china to nashville, where it gets trucked over to lebanon, TN where Dell tranfers it to FedEX domestic service, i.e. the "shipping" stage.

mine is in the boxing stage!!

I really need some serious help asap.
I got a replacement for my M1730 last year i.e April 09. Last month, my 88m SLI failed and I tried calling technical support. And they said that my laptop was on hold and I need to talk with customer service. So I did the same and I came to know that reason that DELL didnot received the old damaged laptop that I sent on April 09. Its almost a year and now they are asking me for a tracking no that I sent. Basically,I used the prepaid tracking info that comes with the laptop so I have no idea of the tracking no and I dont know if the shipping company made a mistake or the DELL. So, can anyone help me on my issue?
I really need to get my GPU fixed.
Thanks and please do reply asap.
Thanks -
I make it a habit to take pics/scan all documents before shipping it out just in case it gets lost. I'm not sure what your options are, but if you nor Dell has the tracking number, then I'm not sure what you can do. Normally Dell would charge you if you didn't return the damaged laptop...which comes to question if they actually received it at all.
Best option I can think of is to purchase a 8800m GPU from ebay or something and install it yourself. -
try going into your dell account, click on the order number of your replacement (it should include a return label doc), then click on tracking once you got into the detail of the replacement order number. i notice that dell include both tracking #s for their replacement system shipping out to you and the return tracking printout that they sent to you. well, i don't know if they did it last year tho...

Umm. maybe I will search Dell account. Also, they have not charged me anything and its been a year but just my account is on hold. Also, I complained that if Dell didnot received the laptop then why they didn't contacted me and I came to know about it after I needed technical support after 1 year. Any other suggestion?

haven't been here for a while but need a little advice, the last 2 days I have had my system crashing, the cause of the crash reported as video card hardware problem, once rebooted everything is fine, it seems to be temp related when my cards rise to above 94c, this seems to be abnormally hot I have noticed recently, at idle they are about 75c going to 95c when playing game, is this the start of the 8800's breaking down, should I contact Dell now to get the ball rolling before it gets worse
Also considering that it is indeed the beginning of a video card failure what options are open to me in the UK, also what should I be looking at as a minimum replacement system if applicable........thanks in advance -

@Geoffxx
Yup, Im preety sure thats GPU going to die coz I just had recent experience. My 88m SLI died while playing AC2 with SLI on. The day I was playing this game, it was fine but the next day, it totalled. It showed RGBW color. So better get some cooling pads,or open the laptop and clean each and every vent of your GPU as well as if possible change the thermal paste and I believe you won't have to face the situation that I faced. Also as you said, my GPU were 96 degrees while gaming on single GPU with clean vents but on SLI On.. you can imagine the heat, it totalled
-
Just on to Dell, they are replacing the cards on Monday, so hopefully this should resolve my issue.
I cleaned all my vents, and don't feel it is up to me to start dismantleing my cards to service them, I have NBD onsite warranty with 2 years remaining, I just hope the cards they fit will be ok, I don't have a lot of faith in repaired/refurbished replacement parts. -
Order shipped today--should be here Monday.
-
Same here Leahy woot! woot!
-
Congrats to both of you. Hope you enjoy your replacements.
-
leahy we have the same system... cept mine is red
-
cards replaced today with refurbs, temps back to normal 50 at idle from 75 and under load max 75 compared to 97, so the cards where overheating and throttling back, vents where dust free so this seems to be an inherant problem with the cards over time. Not good news since the warranty will run out eventually, although I have 2 years left
-
General shoutout - surprised to see all the M1730 peeps still around. HI!
Sprad, this seems strange to me. The reason I say that is because Dell actually contacted me after 30 days when I hadn't returned my 1st replacement laptop (improperly configured M17x). I purposely waited to see what they'd do - plus it was pretty sweet having matching M17x's side-by-side. They called asking where their laptop was. It went out the next day. They also called to confirm receipt of the laptop. I have no idea why it'd take so long for it to clear.
Another idea - have Dell search by service tag. Perhaps your laptop was reconditioned and sold via outlet and is now in someone else's hands... -
Received my M17x yesterday and finally got it set up today.
This thing blows the M1730 out of the water in terms of quality and design. Anyone else waiting on a replacement is in for a treat. -
woot woot yeah leahy!! how much ram are you using? im using 44% with just win 7, digsby chat client and firefox... sounds ridiculous to me
