So getting the warranty after purchasing seems like a good idea, since even if there aren't any discounts on it you can use the 5% gift card towards it.

I can't really see any reason to get it with it, am I missing something?

So with the 61wh battery you get 5 hours and with the 91wh 8 hours .ok

Not sure why support reps say that
The site says 11 with the 91w battery and gives the test conditions
And one support guy told me 13
So given that support people are all saying different things, I'm going by the site.

Gotta work the sales people on the phone. 5% Dell Advantage + 50 coupon + some other discount the guy threw in. 2nd call to 'Sales Resolution' to ask for Member Purchase Program discount. Lady said I would have to reorder to get that, but knocked off another $120 instead. Phone reps have quite a bit of latitude to adjust price.

Best price I could get here in Australia is $2209AUD delivered on the highest specced system. Will likely be ordering at that price tomorrow.

Any idea if you can run Windows 7 on this system?

Regarding newer systems that ship with Windows 8 and now 8.1, does Dell still support Windows 7 driver wise? Perhaps the Windows 8.1 drivers are "backwards compatible". Can anyone shed any light on this?

What do you think would be the best way to get an XPS 15 with US keyboard layout in Europe (Italy or Germany)? Does Dell offer that?

Having a really hard time finding any laptops with English layouts here. Only Apple seems to offer a choice when it comes to keyboard layouts.

Order from the US, use a mail forwarder. Dell gives international warranty if the model is also offered in the country you wanna claim it.

I am going to be purchasing this system for sure (provided there is no major problems as last revision with the wifi and cooling, although that looks to be resolved by the hardware design I have seen thus far).

But which configuration to purchase is making this a tough choice for me...

    1. I would like to purchase the mid config with 1TB spinner and then add on a 256GB mSATA (less, money, more storage, less battery, more power consumption/heat/noise from spinner)
    2. But it is also tempting to get the high end config with the 512GB mSATA and larger battery (more money, less storage, more battery, less power consumption/heat/noise without spinner)

Generally, I was leaning to option 1. but because of the last point (more power consumption/heat/noise from spinner) I am now leaning towards option 2.

How valid does everyone think the last point is? How significant is it to get rid of that spinner....is there actually a lot less heat/noise/power consumption with its absence?

    Delivery

I think the speculation so far is that there may be about 3 hours battery life difference between the configs. For me the choice was easy - I want the bigger battery since I can access my fileserver from anywhere with an internet connection.

Fwiw. I went with the mid tier as I figured I could slap in a 2.5 ssd to replace the the drive it was too loud. I like the idea of having to drives (I'm putting in a 256gb ssd in the msata as well).

the hdd itself wont matter that much as the 30% smaller battery. at this point I'm quite annoyed with Dell, as they don't even offer the top model in my country. And I really don't see myself shelling out >2000 dollars for a laptop without an SSD (the 32 gig I don't count) and with a mediocre battery in 2013, even when the overall hardware is nice. If they put the larger battery as an option I wouldn't mind and upgrade the SSD myself, but 5 hour battery life, nah. Then I rather get a Haswell Ativ Book 8 with >10 hour battery and put in an SSD myself.

Nice. Did your est. delivery date move, at all?

Edit: Mine's in production, too. Still says Nov. 14th.

Also, heads up if you have an Amex card. I just checked my 'Offers for you' and there is a $50 rebate offer for Dell.com. Great timing. XPS 15 just got $50 cheaper.

How in the world does the 91WHr unit still weigh "Starting at 4.44 lb" as the 61WHr unit does? Same weight battery with different tech?

Two questions for anybody that may be able to answer them:

Have delivery dates have been ~Nov13/14 from the very start, or do some people have earlier dates? (Just wanna know if new orders are already pushing the dates back and whether I should order ASAP or if a have a couple of days)

Do Chat reps have the same discounting power as phone reps? I know that the phone reps get your commission as soon as they pull up your cart/order, so they have incentive to seal the deal, but are chat reps handled similarly or are they basically just hourly employees? It looks like one previous poster here got the best deal so far, but is that an isolated incident by a really dedicated rep?

Some people seem to be getting better delivery dates despite ordering late.

How credible is the 11 hour battery life? Will the 91Whr realistically give even 6 hours of web browsing, under low brightness?

What was the battery life like on the old XPS 15?

Noone has had the laptop in their hands yet, so noone knows. but theoretically, 11 hours of light usage is perfectly realistic. The Samsung Ativ 8 gets around 10 hours with light usage, also with a 91 Whr battery, but Ivy Bridge CPU.

Why would that matter, the only thing the old XPS shares with the new one is the company logo.

    Dell | Dell

Precision M3800 has a Nov 14 release date, as expected (that's when people will get their XPS 15s).

But those of you who couldn't order the XPS 15 in your country, don't get your hopes up, a lot of countries that sell the XPS 15 don't offer Precision directly anymore.

The Dell promises almost 40% longer battery life. I would have predicted at least 9 hours of promised battery life from Apple, so that's a bit disappointing. This is also likely the number they give with Mavericks installed. We'll have to see the prices and reviews, but the XPS is looking like it performs better in some key areas. Thunberbolt 2, Iris Pro, and faster SSD are neat, but not as important to me as battery life and price.

I can't wait to get a laptop that can get more than three hours on Windows. That's what I get on my rMBP because the emulated windows bios can only use the dgpu. Super lame.

Ordered, max spec with 3 year warranty plus accident protection
Estimated delivery date of the 18th, ship of the 11th. If it has problems/isn't great I'll return it and get a new retina, but hoping it is good as I find the rMBP to get very hot and very loud very quickly.
