Dang man, that's awesome. I was bowing out of getting this comp, but at that price I may have to give it another go. Granted u have a company discount. I was only able to get to $1893 and that's for the mid spec'd one. $2154 after taxes for the top model. At $1793 I'd def buy. Every dollar counts.

    No.

Most delivery ETAs are around ~11-14th of November. Mine is the 18th.

Wonder what the delivery dates are in Asia? Probably closer to the 11th I guess, so that's when we'll start seeing reviews

Though I wouldn't say there's no chance that they've given reviews to sites so that they can come out right before or around the retina reviews and outshine them(assuming the xps is good)

So it seems they've dropped the price on the top two models by $50 already?

XPS 15 Touch Screen Laptop Details | Dell

I wonder if I can talk to a rep and get $50 off my order, since it hasn't even shipped yet.

Edit: Hold on, Dell's U.S. website seems to flipping out at the moment. I was trying to see if they got rid of the $50 coupon they had and just rolled it into the prices.

Edit 2: Nope, coupon's still there. I guess they actually dropped the price? I have no idea if it's temporary or permanent.

Edit 3: Seems their chat support is down right now (11:11 p.m. EDT).

Does anybody think the $1849 version is worth it over the Yoga Pro 2 which is only like $1200? Also, what's the difference between the XPS 15 and XPS 13?

Australia is a lot closer to Malaysia than USA/Canada is, and our delivery estimates are about the same :p Dell shipping is pretty stupidly quick, at least here with Startrack.

Man, I'm undecided yet....what you guys recommend....get the new XPS? or get the L521X with a SSD and the 7260 Wifi card? There are $1000 521x's in Amazon...

    Yea probably.

2013 XPS15 is a no brainer (the QHD version, not the cheaper FHD version).

By the time you load up the L521x (even when it's being discounted like mad atm) with an SSD and the 7260, you're getting up to the price of the 2013 XPS anyways.....

Agree moda..the problem is the time frame...my current laptop is being sold tomorrow and I can purchase the new XPS only in Amazon...(I live in Costa Rica). I'm planning a quick trip to Orlando (in about a month) to pick up a new MBPr for my girlfriend and hopefully the new XPS is shipping by that time...Amazon says that they have stock now but due to an agreement with Dell...they will start shipping between November 21st and December 12th...

I just called a few times. He had to get confirmation from a manager but it was possible. I think I can do better though. In the past 15% wasn't a big problem and I believe that there must be a decent margin on this one.

I'm wondering the exact same thing. I originally was looking between the Yoga Pro 2 and the upcoming XPS 13 but I think the Yoga has more ports, etc. So for me that would beat the XPS 13 out. But, the specs of the XPS 15 are very nice. So really, I'm down to trying to figure out if the 15 inch is going to be too big vs the 13 inch for me. I currently have a Studio 14z which I find is the perfect size and best of both portability and size.

thanks the review does look quite good. the xps15 is my top pick currently but considering the P34G due to its better graphics card. dells build quality and screen though are better though. will need to wait for some reviews before deciding which one to get.

one more thing, anyone know if we can buy direct from the Malaysia factory?
I recall a couple of yrs ago (around 10) I met some people living in the region that said they would buy direct from the factory for cheaper than retail stores. not sure if you can still do that.

Dell VIP - Discounts for members | Dell UK

Register with this and you will receive an email with two 10% off coupons that expire in 1 year. It supposed to be for employees and students (I am a student) but all you have to do is input an institution name and course. They asked me for no proof or to log in through my Uni account so I think its safe for anyone to do it.

I used the VIP coupon, and got a call from dell asking for my university email. They sent an email to my university email to verify my billing and shipping address. So, they do verify, maybe not with all.

Ordering a computer without prior reviews... shudder. I just placed my order for the highest spec XPS 15... $2068.18 total. Maybe I could have done better, but I HATE haggling with people over prices (I was that guy on the other end for a while). Not sure what it took to get that price. I'm a student + I used the dell financing (I had a $3,000 limit and its interest free for 12mo).

I couldn't get the reps to subtract 5% from the price of the laptop in lieu of the 5% Dell gift card.
The best price (not including tax) I could get via online chat for the midrange unit was $1,702.99
The best price (not including tax) I could get via online chat for the toprange unit was $2,023.19

I guess $320 isn't bad for the 512gb SSD (what kind is it?), but I already have a Samsung EVO 250gb that I was going to use instead.

There's no pressure in buying later so I thought I'd mull it over a bit and see if I could get a lower price via phone chat. My buddy has a 15% off coupon he bought off Ebay he never used, I wonder if I can get that code to work on the prices above. That would be awesome.

Yeah, it seems like there is not much point in haggling for the mid-range one if you have educational account (like I do), or better. For the top end one, it is worthwhile to haggle for the extra 80$ or so, though haggling is pain for the both party involved. I imagine those without educational account can haggle to lower the price in line with those who do, at least.

Also, my first chat rep tried to sell me different models, even though I clearly told him I wanted XPSs (he also tried to "forget" applying discounts and pull other tricks, sleazy) -- which suggests that the commission for XPS15 may not be very high right now. I am in bit of hurry (my old laptop is not quite the same since it was hit by surge (I think)), and I am leaning toward the middle one now; IGZO is too enticing.....

    It's a Samsung PM841/851.

They're the only manufacturer who currently makes a 512gb mSATA SSD.

It's basically an 840 Pro slammed into the tiny MSATA form factor, so good chips and a good controller. Pretty much maxes out the SATA3 bus.

Thank you all! That's good news.

FYI, I think there is a 15% off coupon available on Ebay from a couple sellers but you have to use Dell Financing... no prepayment penalty if you choose to pay it off completely. This brings the 15" down to $1450 before taxes--if it works.

This is what I am leaning to as well, at least after I realized that the mid model has the enough battery life for my usage pattern (I worried if it is in 4-5 hours range). I have lot of files, so it is better (and less expensive) for me to use mSata boot drive + 1gig HDD.

On their web store, I can get the top model for $2110 after EPP and coupon, which is exactly the amount the chat rep (the sleazy one) quoted after 1 hour of haggling.

On the next sales rep (who was nice and professional, unlike the sleezy rep), I switched my target to the mid model. She told me her discount isn't any better, and I may want to take a shot at the store at my school instead (I tried, but they don't carry XPS15, and just instructed me to use Dell's web store) -- anyway, it comes out as $1726 after EPP and coupon.

For both prices, it exclude 5% e-gift card from Dell loyalty program.
If you don't have EPP, I think you can use these prices as the floor for haggling. :) I think I can get a better deal if I use Dell financing, but I don't think I want to do that to be honest. Although these prices are not as good as what some people are getting, they are pretty good deals compared with their competitions (laptops with QHD screen tend to be very expensive).

Now, I don't know if it is wise to order before seeing many user/"professional" reviews; but then, the new XPS 15 looks like they are the best XPS since the first XPSs, and they are shared with Precision.....

Dell's return policy is pretty good so aside from the time it will take to repack and go to UPS if I decide to return it for one reason or the other, it is worth it IMO.

Having said that....I have more high hopes for this model than years prior. I'm dying to have another workhorse like my fav XPS M1530.

Yeah, I hope I'm wrong too.

I've been using a "temporary" laptop for too long now and just want to get one that I can walk around with for hours on end again and actually watch HD TV, light Photoshopping, etc. Maybe even some light gaming, but not with the latest titles, obviously. Can't really be bothered to wait for an XPS 14 that may or may not happen.

If they announced it tomorrow, I wouldn't even bat an eyelid at waiting for it though.

Hi everyone, been following this thread for a while so I thought I may aswell make an account. A couple of things have been confusing me though, as in a video on youtube there was a guy who was demoing an xps 15 with a QHD display but not touch, is there any info on when this will be available?

I think when I get back to the UK in a couple of days I'll order the middle spec model but I'm not too fussed about the touch screen.

People seem to be very picky about the touchscreen... If you don't like it, don't use it. I doubt they will come out w/ a matte QHD+ screen, and i'm not convinced that it really adds that much more cost to the machine

I'm not too fussed really and the version that was showed in the video was glossy anyway. It usually adds about £50-£100 to the price but it doesn't really bother me if it isn't out for a while. I think an XPS 14 would be my ideal choice but I haven't even heard it mentioned so I think I'd end up waiting for ages :(

Okay I just ordered mine $2065 before taxes for the high end model. Im slightly disappointed now that i hear about that 15% off coupon floating around, unfortunately their are none on ebay currently. If one of the phone representatives give me a better deal should i tell them to lower my existing order or place an order with them and cancel the 1st one later? Also, if a coupon does appear on ebay, how will i know its the same one?

I got a quote from an online rep for the maxed out XPS 15 of $2067 before tax, other than the member who was able to use the MedAssist program, was anyone else able to get much better and if so how? I'm not super worried about a $20-30 difference but if we're talking about $100+ than it would be great to know. Thanks!

I find it a bit ridiculous that Dell have managed to release a fair bit before Apple and yet Apple now have reviews trickling out and Dell haven't even bothered to send some samples out for review, surely they're going to lose out in the week or two that reviews are out for the rMBP but there's nothing about the XPS.

Not only that, but the rMBP was available the day it was released, so most people reviewing the laptop is people who have gone out and bought it.

Don't dell and apple have different biz models? Dell is just in time - built to order. While apple has to push physical devices out to so many stores. Apple can probably do a fairly good estimate of how many laptop it needs in the first month because of its loyal customer base and the fact their selection is so limited. I'm guessing Dell has a harder time estimating the demand upfront. Not only are the customers less loyal, but the switching cost is very low (ie I could go to any windows based laptop easily). And coming on the tail of the apple release, I bet they thought a lot of people would want to wait to compare. Just my guess. However i wish they prebuilt a few thousand so they could get some out quick.

The other part of that is that apple has done a whole lot of nothing with the new models. They don't need to raise hype or anything, they just make the machines and people will buy them.

Dell and other companies are trying to out-innovate each other, and getword out about how much better their machines are than everyone else, so they announce early to get people excited for it. You see the same thing in the mobile phone world.

Just out of interest, would it be possible to take out the 2.5" drive and put a 91WHr battery in, or is there some kind of fixed bracket that would get in the way?
