I would assume that the bracket would be removable if there is one, but it would not be simply a quick swap.

Why not? It sounds like the whole bottom cover comes off revealing basically all of the replaceable parts. A this point, we can only speculate but overall it sounds like it's a fairly trivial swap.

I can't afford the top model right now, but I do hope to grab an SSD and the extended battery (from a parts distributor somewhere, hopefully) and swap them out eventually. We'll have to see.

Page 21 of the manual below shows that the bracket securing the HDD is removable. Don't know that that confirms the 91WH battery could then be swapped in but it's a step in that direction.

    ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_laptop/esuprt_xps_laptop/xps-15-9530_Owner's%20Manual_en-us.pdf

This link with this Coupon T36$J4?X6C3S1J gets the high end model down to $2,131.19 pre-tax before haggling. Not sure how you all are getting it lower!

Just try chatting with some of the online agent(or calling them). I was able to get it down to $2067 before tax for the top configuration.

Any idea when it will be possible to pick up the middle config in local stores? Also, what do you think will be the final price of middle config along with student discount? I am not from US but a relative of mine will be there for a couple of days till the 17th of November. Any chance he may grab one by then in the stores? Thanks...

In stores you'll probably be stuck paying sticker price. *maybe* if your friend finds a University campus that sells Dell, they might be able to get it there, but usually you have to be a student at that school to get any discount that they might have.

So far, if you use online chat or call the phone number on their site, the lowest you can get is somewhere from $1720 to $1760. (most people get about $1750ish, the 20 range is is you find a really nice rep that can give you a little more boost) If you sign up for the Dell Advantage program, you can then get a 5% additional credit that you can use towards another purchase within 60 days.

The shipping date for the vast majority of machines is November 18th, so your friend won't be able to get it, sadly. If you do happen to know someone that's going to be there later, I know that in Canada, UPS stores can receive and hold shipments for pickup, so it might be an option for you.

Been trying to find some benchmarks for the graphics card (750m 2GB GDDR5) but havent been able to find any. Have found plenty for the DDR3 but not the GDDR5...

Does anyone know how it compares to the AMD Radeon HD 8870M 2GB GDDR5 (found in the Samsung Ativbook 8)?

I am considering one of these 2 laptops and the gaming performance will decide which to get. thanks!

Test Dell Inspiron 15-7537 Notebook - Notebookcheck.com Tests
Here are some benchmarks from inspiron 7000's gt750m. Seems like 8870 performs marginally better but many owners have complained about driver problems with 8xxx series from amd.
Side note, estimated ship dates have een pushed back by few more days, means I'll have to wait till January to get one :(

Price for the middle option has gone up 50 pounds today so it's now 2400usd. I just can't bring myself to make an order until they sort out some bloody reviews

FYI, be wary of the EDD dates on orders. I had an separate accessory scheduled for 29/10 (spare AC Adaptor), it is obviously passed this date, and I actually got in touch with Dell directly and got 4/11 as a new date. The order status on the Dell website however, does not reflect any new date and still says 29/10. It does make me wonder if the EDD on my actual XPS 15 is going to be more than stated. I mean on average Dell usually over-estimates on the EDD, this time however, I'm not sure.

Where did you get that information? Plus I suspect only the high end GPUs will be based on Maxwell, while low and medium range will just be renamed Kepler cards...

Anyway, we don't have any info about Maxwell at the moment, this is the first time I hear about a GT8xx, I doubt nVidia will release their new architecture before Q3 or Q4 2014...

Oh, I really tried to play the early adaptor for the new XPS 15. But these folks at Dell Germany or should I say the Chat Reps somewhere in East Europe won`t give me a chance.

I`m a Dell Customer for years now, got my Inspiron 6400 in 2006, bought one for my girlfriend one in 2007, got a Latitude E6410 in 2010 and need a new laptop since Summer. Just waited and waited for the Haswell Refresh.

My only wish is to go with the middle version and 3yr of the good old next business day support - I do not need the ProSupport.

But there is no way to
    - get NBD instead of ProSupport or
    - get some discount

I mean, if I`d take the US price, add 4yr ProSupport and do not deal on the price (what seems to be a more or less easy thing in the US) I`m at 2230 $ what means 1600€.
Dell.de wants me to pay 1700€ for the middle option with 1yr ProSupport.

I for sure know that comparing prices in the US and the EU mostly gothis way (yeah, I`m talking to you, Adobe!).
But the time I purchased the Latitude it was possible to deal on a fair base, get the kind of support I want and get a fair discount.
And I ordered the Latitude one week after it was announced.

Just need to pronounce some of my frustration

Actually Dell.de wants you to pay €1400, and the government wants an additional €300 in taxes. You're comparing US ex. VAT prices to Europe's inc. VAT prices. No wonder Europe seems much more expensive...

Yes but tax in the US/Canada is much lower, Ontario is 13% which is very high, but there are some states in the US that are 0%

Oh, I`m not very much into US VAT and it`s differences in the different states. For me as consumer the end price counts. But even if you look at prices without VAT, it`s 1370 € (US price $ in € ;) vs 1430 €

+ Dell Germany can take advantage of "Vorsteuer" (pre-tax), so the company gets all the VAT prices of their costs in germany back.
+ as mentioned you seem to get discounts like 150$ which is utopian here..

I'd be willing to bet that the first US systems are currently in transit to the US. In my experience US customers' orders always showed In Production until the unit was actually in the carrier's hands with a tracking number stateside. Even if you were to call in and talk to the salespeople who sold you the computer, they likely wouldn't have enough access to tell you anything other than In Production as well. I used to work for the US consumer phone sales team, so unless there have been huge changes to their systems this is certainly the case.

I don't have first had experience with the Canada Europe side of the operation, so their tracking system may be different. Although from what I know Canada operations are almost the exact same as the US.

In the mid tier XPS 15 model, Does anyone know if the 32GB mSATA can be upgraded manually? If so will any mSATA card work or would I need a specific brand/type? Thanks in advance!

Looking at the manual, you can replace the mSATA card if you so desire. I'd guess that any brand of mSATA card will work.

Here's the link to the manual again.

Some information for UK orders. Mine was dispatched today, ordered on 18/10 top spec model. Its coming from the China manufacturing facility, which is where I expected, interestingly mine is being sent via Walsh Western aka Syncreon. If its like last time, UK Mail ultimately deliver to my address, but is faciliated by WW. Surprised its not UPS like my previous XPS laptop. Annoyingly, the tracking has no ETA currently.

Also in UK, and mine was middle spec, ordered on 25/10 and shipped 03/11 - also WW and status " CHINA DEPARTED MANU.FACILITY"

We order a lot from Dell and for reference, this is one that left china and arrived last week (it was an inspiron 7000) so if it follows a similar time frame, it could be 9/10 days before we see the XPS (hoping it's sooner!)

Thanks for that, very useful reference info. Did your tracking happen to say ETA: N/A initially? Mine currently doesn't give a date, I'm going to assume I'll know nearer the time, but as its going to my home address, I'll be needing to take a day off work, which I need to do in advance!

    Damn that sucks!

Something else I just noticed, I checked out my online package slip on my order and got the service tag of my build, added it to my account, it was added as a XPS 15 L501x, though the invoice and spec list is correct, just listed as the wrong model, I hope that's just Dell's website having a glitch-tastic time. I have seen a XPS 9530 support page, it does exist I'm sure.

    Hi Guys,

Any word on the release date for the XPS 13 Haswell?

Dell's press release said November but have not heard anything else.

Also anyone know if it will be available with a non touchscreen? I'm looking to get a 1080p screen but don't want touch, hopefully this will be an option, the press release was not that clear on it!

Any info would be much appreciated!

    Thanks

Ugh. Dell is calling me up to taunt me. Got a phone message today from a 'Customer Care' rep. Of course I got excited because I thought she was going to say that my XPS 15 had shipped, but, nope, she just called to cheerfully let me know that I've still got the same Nov 14 delivery date I've had since I ordered the thing last month. What a tease. Anyone see any movement on N. American orders, yet?
