Beautiful :) Could you make a short video of it? I guess it would be very popular on youtube. I would love it :) Anything you do not like so far?

How is the screen compared to L502x or L501x which had 1080p screen? Playing a 1080p video on both of the systems, which is more clear/crisp? Any major differences between the screens that you can notice?

    Thanks!!

Just got my xps 15 this morning (top spec).

Minor issue: they shipped me the power supply without the cord to connect to the outlet =P Luckily the cord I have for the SXPS 16 works, so I was able to use the laptop while dell overnights me a new one.

    Impressions so far:

Keyboard: Taking a little to get used to vs the SXPS 16's, travel seems to be smaller, occasionally I don't press keys hard enough to get them to fire - not a deal breaker though, just have to get used to it.
Touchpad: Not bad, although I still wish they had physical left/right buttons, two finger scrolling works for the most part
Screen: Very nice, everything is crisp - colors maybe not quite as vibrant as the RGBLED, but what can you do. Played a 1440p video on youtube, looked amazing.
Wifi: using the laptop about 20-30 ft & 2 walls away from the router, works fine
Heat: Been using the laptop on my lap for the past hour or two, installing things, web browsing, normal usage. Base gets warm, but not unpleasantly so, also very quiet. Haven't tried any games yet though.

Currently installing VS2012/VS2013, will let you guys know how that goes.

Overall satisfied with my purchase so far, wish the keyboard/mouse were a little better, but I guess most laptops have switched to clickpads/chicklet now.
    Hope that helps!

Still a but confused about screen resolution vs DPI. Whats the difference between setting the display to 1600x900 to setting scaling to 200%?

Also, thanks to everyone whose posting their feedback, it eases my mind at least while I wait :)

When using 1600x900 at 100% versus 3200x1800 at 200% text will have the same size on screen, but 4 times less pixels will be used for rendering, meaning the letters will have smoother edges at 3200x1800.

Would you mind testing out your touchscreen? I noticed last night it would lose my finger, or lose/find resulting in multiple taps etc.. I would recommend you try to do the windows8 swipes and you may notice something.

You can use the "Multi Touch test" app in the windows store to help with this.

I had issues last night but they seem to have disappeared...

Oh and this thing does support 10-Point Multitouch ( I saw some people say it was only 5)

So if you set it to 200% you can still watch a 1440p video, whereas if set to 1600x900 you can't?

Thanks for the helpful reply btw, these HiRes screens get confusing

I did some preliminary swipes and touch typing - seems to be ok for now, will do more in depth tonight.

Also, I have a theory about some of the lower battery life - I've noticed while using the touch pad, there is a process "Synaptics Touchpad 64 bit enhancements" that seems to go between 3-5% cpu. I bet this is probably the dell custom touchpad drivers (they have a separate settings ui that's different from regular synaptics). I wonder if installing the stock synaptics drivers would help battery life?

Ha! I've had this M1330 going on 6 years so I could've used one sooner, but 6 months ago was when I made the decision to wait for the XPS Haswells to come out before buying.

Interesting that the top config is not offered on dell.com any more. Just checked .ca and .co.uk and those still offer it.
Here is dell chat rep's response:
"As per checking, that configuration is only temporarily not available.. Dell being a mail order company would really need to consider availability. We might not have it on our assembly lines. Our Marketing Dept may have decided not to offer it in the mean time to prevent lead time or delays."
To the question, if he thinks it may be back in a few weeks:
"No new information is available yet when it will become available, but it's definitely a possibility"
    Vague at best.

Damn I wish mine was coming via UPS like my XPS 15z did, it would have more detailed tracking for sure, so far I've been tortured by this for 6 days:

Somewhere between China and the UK, though where exactly, I have no idea. Hopefully it lands in the UK soon so I can actually see where its at!

Yes. Another forum member posted their delivery path of the new Inspirion 7000 (Came from the same Manufacturing facility):

    keithop's WWI tracking

That took 8 days to get to the UK before the tracking updated with anything new, it is normal, just WWI aka Syncreon aren't the best at providing "Live" data. Having no ETA currently, is also normal, it gets given when its moving within the UK hubs.

So hopefully during the weekend some new tracking activity will happen and it hopefully ends up in the UK at some point. Otherwise my estimated 12/11 delivery date isn't happening!

I shipped two days later, so it'll be earlier than my 22/11 initial estimate and later next week looks like a better guess

    Date Time Location Activity
09/11/13 13:31 WWI - LUTTERWORTH MERGE ITEMS PICKED.
    03/11/13 13:15 CHINA DEPARTED MANU.FACILITY
    03/11/13 05:15 PENDING.

China, its on my tracking. I think a lot of orders would of been fulfilled from Dell's China facility, I have yet to have an XPS order not been built from there yet.

Hope so, give it a bit more time. Our orders likely went out together. The MERGE status could be unique to me, it could be another few hours or more before I get SCANNED INTO HUB, so the only other difference would be geographical location in the UK in this case. Lutterworth, seems to be one of their main hubs. Though there is also Hinckley and others.

It should also say its departed from the manufacturing facility as well, if it doesn't, then you might want to chase it up. Or hang in there for a few, just keep watching the tracking. Its horrible having tracking silence, but literally from China to the UK, there are no tracking points, until it gets to the UK, you won't see anything.

Yes I happened to order the XPS 15 sleeve, however this was done on the same order and it says Qty boxes 2 on the manifest, so its not a problem. I also go this message on a seperate accessory order, which also said MERGE, but that made no sense as that came on its own just one box. Though you are correct, the MERGE status appears before actually anything is scanned into the hub, but such status did appear after a couple of hours on my other order, but I'm pretty sure its in the UK or landing very soon. Either way, its inbound for Lutterworth, just nice to see something more than just DEPARTED FROM MANU FACILITY!

I'll know for sure when its moved, when its actually scanned out of the hub and passed onto UKMail.

brilliant, makes sense. I really want to know what that sleeve is like, temped myself! The merge makes sense now

yep, no point picking a merge until right before the rest arrives, so I think that suggest imminent arrival of the laptop to that centre.

Unfortunately we've had the most horrific problems with ukmail recently, I can only hope it's better where you are!

Sorry to hear that. So far they've been good to me. I got a SMS notification on my phone telling me the date when my other Dell order was being delivered and got a morning slot of 07:00 AM - 11:00 AM. They even let me authorise the request to deliver it to a neighbour the night before as I was going to be at work. However as that was an accessory order, I think you have more flexibility with less value items.

With my actual XPS 15, I doubt I'll be able to do that, however I am having the day off work when it does arrive. Things are a little different in this case however, as I have no ETA date, whereas on my other order tracking, one was given immediately from release from the fulfilment centre, which was the Netherlands, compared to China.

Still Monday or Tuesday is looking like a possibility at the moment.

    agreed! quite exciting!

Around here UK MAIL routinely fail. We've asked Dell to ship all our orders by UPS now but occasionally one slips through.

We've had UKMAIL text but the item left in warehouse. Drivers go home early. Packages damaged, lost and I'd say more than half the deliveries due have at lease one instance of "no access" "no one home" "premises not found". We're very used to it now.

Heres a summary of the undercover reporter inside ukmail earlier this year Dispatches | Secrets of Your Missing Mail | Channel 4 - YouTube

Watch for the dell laptop boxes :/

Wow, not the best experience! Didn't know UKMail got the Channel 4 dispatches treatment! I cringed when I saw that Dell package go off the conveyor belt on that video!

I must admit I much prefer UPS also, mainly because of their service and being International, so you can track your order through the various hubs from the start, and that fact that UPS will deliver it from start to finish, where as with WWI, it gets passed around to different networks, which I'm not too keen on, but sometimes we have to accept it!

If its a UK order and on Standard Delivery. Sit tight, I doubt none of the UK orders have been received yet. I reckon we should start seeing them being delivered from early next week onwards. Though you can always call either WWI or Dell for an update if you'd like.

Anyone who's been using it already (SSD/large battery version), any unusual battery activity?

Mine gave roughly 5 hours max first use, after that I charged it to full and it began showing me indicators like 2.5 hours, 3.5 hours, 4.5 hours of battery at virtually-idle/very light usage and full charge, as well as 2% wear.

Also would like to inform of and check about these issues more than one user including myself have gotten (not necessarily at the same time):

    1) screen stays dark, does not lit up on cold boot (key and power lights come on), force shut down required

    2) on power up (from hibernation, could also happen otherwise) left and right clicks do not work on the touchpad or on an external mouse, again restart required to get it working

Once again, yet another Dell for home use that has issues fresh from the factory (my new SXPS 16 when it was new had a keyboard that occasionally wouldn't work on boot and this is pretty close). Probably driver issues, almost certainly can be fixed with some reconfiguration or a fresh install.

As for the battery I'm not sure.

Anyone perform a fresh OS install yet? Potential driver issues I should know of when doing so?

I have had the issue where I put the laptop to sleep, and the screen is blank when I wake it up. At first I would just restart as well, but then once I noticed that music was still playing, and that I could reduce the volume - so the comuputer was actually running.

What I do now, which is still a little annoying, is if I wake up the computer from sleep and the screen is blank - close the lid and reopen. For me, the screen will not be blank after that. Also note, I have my settings such that closing the lid will not put the computer to sleep, so ymmv.
