Are prices in Australia higher than in the US/Canada?
Like any estimate on how much the high end' cost there based on these prices?
Plus couldn't find battery life anywhere, anyone see it?

laptop here in Australia is generally more expensive than US/UK depending on the brand. Not sure about dell but we pay double for Fujitsu and maybe 300 bucks more for sony

the 15 inch also comes with 1080p and gt 750m(atleast it does here in India)

Seriously, I just wanted the 1080p and gt 750m in the xps15 but too bad dell hasn't announced this version so far. Also, the base model in Australia is 1799 which is not US$1500 as dell sated earlier. So by that logic, expect the top model with ssd to cost around 2200 in US dollars which is pretty cool i think.

Going off topic a bit - apologies but in the UK (where I am) they do have a 1080 15" version for some reason

I just compared the price difference frum the Au site to the US site for the XPS14 and on AU the top model is $2099 and the same thing on US site is $1199 so at thos difference I'm hoping the new XPS 15 will be closer to $1999 on the US site for the top model or maybe even less.

Like fernandez.alexander says, prices are definitely higher in Australia. The i5 config of the L521X is still listed on Dell AU's website at $1400, while the same config is listed on the US site for $800. I doubt that the price difference will be that big for the new versions, but the top config might come it around $2300 in the U.S., which would be the same as the previous generation.

This is not too bad, IMO. I was bracing myself for worse. Now, to wait for the review embargo to lift.

didn't they say the base xps 15 will be 1499 USD? If so since the aus base unit is 1799, it stands to reason you could subtract about 300 USD off the australian prices to get close to the US prices... so:

    1499 USD - i5 4200h/8gb/GT4400 FHD/500gb
    1999 USD - i7 4702hq/16gb/gtx750m QHD+/1tb
    2299 USD - i7 4702hq/16gb/gtx750m QHD+/512gb SSD + Extended battery

Is the 512gb SSD a mSATA drive and then the 2.5" is filled with battery? or is the other way around? What I really would love is a 128gb mSATA, a 1tb 2.5", AND the extended battery.

I don't see how the extended battery could possibly fit alongside a 2.5" given the size of the laptop. If they could fit both they probably would not have bothered with an mSATA.

Im thinking to go for 1999 USD - i7 4702hq/16gb/gtx750m/QHD+/1tb+32mSATA and just buy a 128/256 mSATA to add myself. Still need to check the price differences though...

It seems Amazon has also (sort of) put up the $1900 model from earlier in this thread. There's no mention of the GPU (not to mention "3.6 GHz Apple A4" under technical details), but otherwise it looks like the mid-range model from Dell's Australian website.

I expect the device will be a bit more expensive where I live, too. I really hope it stays around €1500...

The Inspiron 7000 Series (well, the 15.6") really aren't that good of an option, until Dell gets its game together and outs the 1920x1080 display equipped models. As currently available, the Inspiron 7000 15 is only available with 15.6" 1366x768, which is something to avoid due both to that the resolution itself doesn't let much fit onscreen, and also due to the very poor quality of most 15.6" LCD panels made for laptops that have 1366x768 resolution.

Also from a review of a user outside the US that picked up an Inspiron 15 7000 with the 1080p display and 750M, it's not all that great anyway. That owner also mentioned that the keyboard is mediocre with poor travel. Thread on Dell Community Forum

If the Inspiron 15 7000 with the 750M and 1080p screen is reasonably priced, I'm thinking under $1199 before holiday sales or coupons it might be worth picking up. However with mediocre keyboard and screen, plus only 17W CPU options, it's not a total winner even at a good price. I'd like to check one out in person before making any final judgements though.

I also wouldn't have minded seeing an i7/750M 1080p version of the XPS 15, if it was significantly cheaper than the QHD+ version, say maybe $200-300 less, even if it had less RAM or storage capacity to get down to that price. Tomorrow will truly tell when Dell US posts up their prices.

Here in Thailand, we also have the 15" Inspiron 7000 with FHD and GT 750M. It's almost USD 2000 here, however. 'High end' stuff is typically priced like that here, which is why I always buy stuff in the US.

Anyway, I have a feeling they are keeping the higher end Inspiron out of certain markets to avoid cannibalising the new XPS line. If Dell can't give you what you want, send them a message by shopping elsewhere.

Actually, that's the 768p version. The 1080p panel is supposedly very good:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/del...-dell-inspiron-7000-series-7.html#post9409450

I've considered the Inspiron 15 7000, but I don't think I want to settle for an ULV CPU and possibly mediocre keyboard.

Looking at the specs of the laptop, it specifies the CPU as: 4th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-4702HQ processor (6M Cache, up to 3.6 GHz)

Looking up the CPU @ ark.intel.com, and it shows that it maxes out at 3.2 GHz...... Link

I wonder where they are getting their numbers from.....are they overclocking it, using a different CPU, or just have their information wrong.

I'd bet money they have the information wrong. They also have the screen wrong. It's listed as 3200x1880, when it's actually 3200x1800.

    +1

I've had a lot of 15" (Latitude, Precision), my last being the XPS 15z and I have never been as happy as when I changed to the XPS 14". It is a perfect balance between size, power etc.

I now grab my daughter's 15z (or even a MBP Retina) and find them a little cumbersome. 13" feels too small for work for, no dedicated graphics...

I guess many feel the same, so hopefully Dell will release it. I believe it took them a little longer to release the first 14z as noted in another post, so I hope it will happen the same this time again... I just wanted to know if anybody had some news. Thanks for the replies.

You normally get a minimum $300 premium for mid-high end models, and sometimes $400 to $500 for the high end models (like the Retina, or the past iterations of XPS 15).

When US people complain about price... ehh think of the folks in Europe and Australia, even if you don't care about us, you'll make yourself feel better

Any word on if the new XPS 15 will be available to order on the Dell UK website on the 18th like the US (and these other selected countries)? I noticed the Ivy Bridge XPS 15 models are on massive clearance now (£400 off the top spec model), so I thought that might be a good sign.

They mentioned in the UK press release pricing and release date coming in the next few weeks, that was on October 2nd. Really hope Dell UK is taking orders soon!

    Ok, finally have battery information

Dell Singapore's site says: Keep going: Power though a long day with up to 11 hours of battery life. Plus, use your XPS 15 to charge your other mobile devices even when it’s off.
And then the fine print says
    ---edit---
    So does Dell Australia
So 11 hours browsing at 150nits, which is usable.

Pretty great battery life, almost up to MBA levels, no?

Finally got a US sales rep to admit that the xps 15 haswell actually exists and will be available for order on Oct 18th. Said to 'keep checking with them' for when its available for order but should be anywhere from midnight to 9AM Texas 'Dell' time

I'm not sure, but probably? Historically, Dell has posted tear-down guides for their laptops, including the L521X. I think the general policy was that users could disassembles their laptops as much as they want, and replace whatever components they want, and Dell would honor the warranty on all original parts (as long as you didn't break anything, or had accidental damage coverage). This was something I REALLY liked about Dell, as I HATE being locked out of my own hardware. I hope they've kept that policy.

I did ask in an email to Dell if this new XPS is user-serviceable under the warranty, but they didn't know and said I'd have to contact tech support.

With the carbon fiber magnesium frame and the very thin profile wouldn't it be similar to a unibody Macbook Pro when it's a monolithic cast and therefore extremely hard to maintenance? Don't get me wrong I love how I've been able to tear apart my previous XPS 15 laptops but I'm expecting some compromises with the haswell model

    Put my order through :D

Ended up going with the 512GB MSATA SSD. It was just easier and slightly cheaper than getting the 1TB+32GB and swapping it out for a bigger SSD. You lose on storage, but you get the bigger battery, ah wells.

As the post at the top of Page 30, Delivery date is 18/11. Maybe different for other countries though.

My guess is that is fairly conservative. We'll see :)

I queried one of the online chat staff members about the CPU and the mismatch in the max CPU speed.

Their response was that maybe the website was wrong and that they would get back to me. Will post when I get a response.

    My delivery date is 14/11.

Can anyone tell me if those Ethernet to USB adapters actually require the installation CD for the driver? Just a random one off eBay. Because I won't be able to use it if it does.
