The 8400 GS is twice as good as the Go 7400?! I always heard that the 8400 is equivalent to the 7600.

For me good warranty is very important. I think I will go for ASUS, perhaps the W7S or S37S. I'm well satisfied with their global warranty.

Dell India also just put up the 1330 on the site
The base config includes the LED backlight, 8400M GS , T5250 and a 160 GB HDD for 63K INR
    thats around 1500 USD

slightly better than the US prices ($1634 for the same config) but considerably more than Malaysia :(

If warranties are important, the Dell Latitude D630 comes with a 3 year international warranty and upgrades to complete coverage for $149.

But if I buy a Dell laptop in U.S. and bring it back to Europe do you think that it has good warranty if I have to send it to U.S. to repair?
I bought an ASUS W7J in U.S. last year that has 1 year Global warranty, yesterday a called to ASUS suport in Portugal and today a transportation company came to pick it up in my house. They also said that in Europe it has 2 year warranty.

It is worth it for the extra year of free coverage and if sending it to the US is inconvenient, buy the next business day coverage. I also prefer the accidental coverage that Dell provides.

this might seem like a silly question so forgive me if it is as I'm not very knowledgeable on notebooks, but I was wondering, do I have to buy the tv tuner and remote control option in order to get the mini express card remote? Or is that standard with every m1330 and the remote control listed with the tv tuner is a separate control? Thanks!

No, you don't need to buy those things in order to get the Expresscard remote.

For those of you interested in an international warranty, Dell UK said that their M1330s come with a 1-year international warranty. They were not sure whether that was the same for models bought in the US.

Could someone please ask Dell US directly whether their models come with an international warranty? If they do, I'm their next customer...

If they don't, the only viable optios are the Asus W7S or HPDV2500t. Are these as good as the M1330?

Anyone know if there is a dock or port replicator with this thing? Shouldn't all ultraportables come with docking options - who wants to ALWAYS work on a 13.3" screen!

They offer a Kensington USB port replicator but there is no docking port on the M1330.

    200-pin DDR2 SO-DIMMs. Max supported speed is DDR2-667.

Ok good. I want to be able to add my 2gb 200-pin DDR2-667 module after getting an m1330. Do we know yet if Dell gives 1x1gb for 1gb of RAM, or if it is 2x512mb for 1gb of RAM?

it should be 2x512mb because its ddr2 which needs two sticks to get the feature

no hdmi for the x3100, only dedicated

are you sure? nvidia's website says the 8600gs outputs "resolutions up to 2560x1600" is there a limitation because of the hdmi?

My sister ordered a Dell Inspiron 700m some two years ago and when the battery recall program was initiated last year, the first thing that they did was to call our home in Malaysia. Because she was studying in the US at the time, she had to work through Dell US in order to get her new battery. I don't think it's necessary to bring the laptop back to the country of purchase in order to get it serviced.

Some people work on 11" or 12.1" screens exclusively... You can't always hook it up to a monitor or TV when you're on the go :)

    I'm on a 15.4" at all times...a 13.3" wouldn't be bad at all, especially on a m1330. I can't wait to get mine. I may just sell my 6400.

Does anyone know if you can downgrade to Windows XP Media Center 2005 and be able to find the proper drivers and such? I'm sure I want Vista just yet.

You should be able to find XP 32-bit drivers without a problem for MCE 2005 but I don't see why you would want to run that over Vista Home Premium. It runs fine on my M1210 I just got.

I was just wondering because I know that there are still a lot of compatibilty issues when it comes to software.

I hope that there will be drivers for the hardware on the m1330 for XP. I'm not ready to make the Vista jump just yet.

You shouldn't have a problem with most software unless you're using a specific application that isn't very popular and hasn't been updated for Vista. As popular as Vista is most issues are getting ironed out farely quickly I would imagine. I definitely like the look of Vista Home Premium over using XP MCE 2005.

Yeah, I agree with you. Vista is beautiful. My friend has it on his Gateway laptop.

The only questionable programs that I have are Pinnacle Studio 10 and Roxio Creator Plus(Dell Edition).

You have HDMI then, can output video and audio... Can replace the SPDIF in some way, but it's not exactly the same sadly...

Is it possible to get an HDMI-to-Digital Coaxial cable converter and output this to an external receiver (i.e. Logitech Z-5500) for sound?

All existing HDMI sockets that I know of can only drive 1920x1200, or the limites of single link. For 2560x1600, you'll need the newer HDMI standard (not the 1.3), which I believe is physically different (more pins and bigger) or you need a dual link DVI output, which to date the only confirmed one I know of is Apply 17" and optional on their 15" (they've had this capability for many many years already (for the 17").)

Lol, I have just read through the entire 14 pages of posts and nobody has noticed that the m1330 does NOT have an x3100 integrated graphics option, it has a 3100 integrated graphics option. Did it slip your eye initially too? What is a 3100 anyways? I checked intel's website and it's not listed. This looks a lot like the old days when dell sold 9800 pro graphics cards that were actually 9800 non pro dell knockdowns. For most people here it won't matter because FPS carry more value than minutes able to work, but for those who want a power conservative graphics solution, they may be getting a shorter stick than they had initially bargained for! I would laugh my patoosh off if it didn't meet the aero requirements, but almost definitely dell will make sure it at least scrapes in to meet the reqs. We'll see what happens, and I'm sure it will make some coverage in future reviews.

just looked at 4 different builds of the xps m1330 - all have the x3100, don't see the typo anywhere, which if thats what you see, thats all it is

the xps m1330 either has the x3100 or the 8400m gs 128mb

What's odd is that I'm not only seeing 3100 written on the main graphics options page, I'm also seeing it outside of that page such as in the tech specs section and on the side overview when customizing it. I'm using the Dell Canada website though, so possibly whoever wrote it for Canada didn't have their facts straight before it went online as a published page. I'm assuming you're not in Canada?

On another note, I am really interested to see what kind of solid state drive they are using in this notebook. I've been doing a little research, and it looks like the drive may be held back by the laptop standard 44 pin cable. The testing done by tom's hardware speculates the drive is being held back by this connection, and I wonder if dell would connect it via a new laptop SATA connection? I wonder if the new intel 965GM even supports that?
