I've purchased several from the outlet. I never could tell any difference between those and a new one. The warranty is the same. As far as was it a good deal, just compare it to what buying the exact same model new would be with all coupons and discounts available. I recently bought a 1520, and I was checking the outlet, but with a $300 off coupon I found it was cheaper to buy new.

    BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL !!!!!
    I got the LG screen !!! :) (LPLDF00)
I got 2 remotes for some reason...
where to start... Its just a dream !
The quality is just oozing out of this laptop...I read enless complaints about th screen and all of that I guess I got lucky, I have no complaints whatsoever about the screen.
The keys are so smooth and easy to type on... I got a mouse with it so I havent used the touchpad much but that seems nice. I guess there seems to be quite some bloatware but not that bad... I will be installing Crysis and COD 4 and Gears of War and see how it performs...
The CD/DVD is not as noisy as its made out to be... not by a long shot...
The left palm rest is warm while running normally... not hot at all, cooler than other laptops ive used (HP, Lenovo, Averatec) There is no strange sounds from cpu or fan. just a pleasant hum of a powerful laptop !
    Its very responive and fast...
I was trying to connect to the internet and could not figure out what was wrong... then it hit me... had to turn on the wifi catcher on the right side...LOL
fingerprint reader is workin well, jjust had to learn how to work with it (i have to make sure that the fingers are flush agaist the reader)
At $1400 this laptop is an awesome deal !!!
It took exaclty one week to get here and DHL made me wait until 4:59 pm to deliver it to me so I was dying all day... the wait is over....
Havent found any problems yet... I will post more later... :)

Do you mind me asking waht you paid, I got an almost identical one but without the Intel Next-Gen wireless, just the Dell a/g wireless. Don't know how that option came up because at first the Intel N wireless was the only one selectable, then it popped up that I could select the Dell wireless card as a $50 deduction! I also got the 9-cell and 6-cell battery. Everything else is the same in mine as yours. I paid $1541 after tax.

Actually you got a better deal than me, changing the wi-fi wasn't an option when i ordered. I tried to haggle two different reps but neither one would budge.
Ended up being $1612 after tax.

I picked this model over the $599.00 smart value bundle because this one had XP Pro vs XP Home, it also has the Nvidia 8400 and the Intel Pro Wireless card, these would have cost extra and increased the price if configured with the other system. The gift certificates are also a nice bonus.

$200 AT&T® Wi-Fi and mobile broadband TV coupon
    $200 Marriott® coupon
    $15 Starbucks® gift card
$50 good towards UbisoftTM Splinter Cell or Ghost Recon

I got mine online. I think every computer I've ordered I've done through their website. I just try to take a combination of the coupons, EPP deals, and combo deals they have and this one worked out. I tried to price it out the day after I bought it using the same stuff and it was $100 more. But thats the way it always seems to work with dell. This is probable my 6th or 7th order from them. I had about 4 or 5 different carts open trying to rearrange the best combination. The last thing I was going to do was pay that huge amount for a ram upgrade and I was just going to get some from newegg, but it ended up working out to get 3GB and a good deal on everything else.

I ordered a brand new Precision M6300 on the 9th.
It came out 3141€ after tax

    Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme procesor X7900 2.8GHz / 4MB L2 Cache / 800MHz FSB
    17" WUXGA (1920 x 1200) UltraSharp display (anti-glare)
    4GB (2x2) 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
    160GB Serial-ATA (7200RPM)
    nVIDIA Quadro FX 1600M

I`m not exactly satisfied with GFX option, but I hope to replace 1600m with 2600m/3600m when available (if possible)

I got a Precision as well, albeit a Precision M4300.

    Core 2 Duo T7800 2.6ghz
    15.4" SXGA+ Truelife
    4gb 2gb x 2 DDR2-667 RAM
    200gb 7200rpm 16mb cache
    Quadro FX 360m 256mb dedicated (512mb turbocache)
    1gb Intel Turbo Memory

I am dissatisfied with the graphics card, it is WEAK. However the computer was given to me by work so I cannot complain. But I'd think a 15.4" Precision line notebook would come with a better graphics option.

If the company would have allowed, I would rather have an XPS 1530 as long as it has an 8600m GT. I'm having "buyer's" remorse although I didn't even buy this laptop.

My XPS should arrive tomorrow (actually today) 1/15/2008. Ordered it on the 9th at about 11PM. Although the quick delivery time is probably because I'm having it shipped to Nashville, and that's where they made it :)

I find it very funny that on the American site, 3GB of ram (2GBx1GB) is listed as dual channel, whereas the Canadian site only says dual channel for those configurations with two identically sized SO-DIMMs.

So, either the US XPS models have some new chipsets that support dual channel DDR2 for different sized SO-DIMMs, or they are misleading customers who order 3GB of RAM on their laptops into thinking they are getting dual channel RAM.

Well my Dell isn't coming any more. I rang up because I wanted to change the colour of my lid to Midnight Blue, and the guy on the phone said "the systems aren't up and running yet, ring back in half an hour", in a tired, grumpy voice. I rang back in a bit over half an hour. Same guy on the phone, he must have recognised my voice because as soon as I said "hello" he hung up.

So, I thought "up yours, Dell", rang up again and pushed a few different buttons, and got a different rep on the phone. I said I wanted to cancel my order, and they transferred me. Unfortunately, the system then hung up on me again because the department they transferred me to wasn't "open" yet (they have different "opening hours" to the first line I rang, can you believe it).

So I rang back in half an hour, got transferred successfully, and cancelled my order. The rep had the cheek to ask why I cancelled my order, so I told him I got hung up on before when I wanted to make some changes to my order, and if this is indicative of the kind of after-sales service I can expect, then I want to cancel it. He then asked me what kind of changes I would like to make, so I told him that I don't want to make any changes, I just want to cancel the order.

Now, I think I'll wait for a Macbook with Montevina and Penryn, which I suspect might come in May (they'll be due for an update about then).

I forgot to post here when I got my Vostro (end of December)
    I bought a 1400 with:
    1.4ghz C2D
    8400m gs
    2 gigs RAM
    Intel Pro Wireless
WXGA glossy screen (windows reports it as SEC, but nvidia-settings in linux reports it as being a Seiko)

The only negatives it has are:
    1. Very bad viewing angles. I suppose that is to be expected with a laptop screen, however.
    2. Headphone jack noise. I could probably fix it though with a simple external volume control dongle adapter thing.

Other than that, it works great. TF2 runs really smooth at reduced settings, I was able to install a fresh copy of XP just fine, Gentoo linux runs pretty fast on it (and compile times are surprisingly good for a 1.4ghz), no dead/stuck pixels, and it stays pretty quiet most of the time. Not bad at all for a $640 laptop.

You wont be when the SLI issues start! lol
Oh and check your HDD's - if you have Hitachi's get them out and replace em with quieter Seagate's ;)

Received my M1730 a few weeks back. Very happy with it, apart from the odd issues with SLI....

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2MmiAbs7ls

Will be very happy (over the moon happy) when/if the 8800mGTX's come along for it. At the moment Im getting impatient waiting!

Got my XPS 1530 this weekend, very nice machine. LG screen, no stuck pixels, good viewing angles, very little graininess. More than fast enough for my needs, especially with clean OS install. No Shock the s_it out of me syndrome.
A few small issues though. I find the DVD drive is a bit loud for my liking, at least it drowns out the hard drive. And the little XPS caps on the end of the barrel hinge are scratched all to hell.
Small things though in the grand scheme of things.
I am more than happy. :)

ah I guess its was another 40ish to move to the T7500... but I was trying to stay as close to £700 as humanly possible.

I really wanted a lappie for £600ish (GX610 was on my list), but the money off deals on the m1530 were too much to ignore!

Just ordered a new Inspiron 1520

    T7500/1GB RAM/8600GT/80GB 5400RPM Drive/15.4" 1280x800/Blu Ray Player all for $970 after taxes.

I'm going to upgrade the RAM and HD Drive by myself. Should I have picked up the 1440x900 monitor instead? It was a $50 upgrade but I would have to take a Glossy screen as well.

Not sure aboyt the screen. All I know is that 1600 by 1020 is too sharp for a 15.4 or so people say , so I took the middle road .
I like to play the odd game so so I adopted for a slighlty higer resolution of 1440 - 900

I got the 1440 because I use Ableton Live and I'll need it once I start getting right into a mix etc.
Otherwise I would have got the lower res with the philosophy of lower native res for games = better FPS.
Dunno how knocking the res down to non-native affects the way games display actually.

Boo, emailed Dell and they won't upgrade my hard drive post-ordering. I may call them to say "do it or I'll cry" or something.

I always get in a flap when I buy something major like this, hoping I've got the right thing!

Happy with the 2mb cache processor now though. Even though I do media stuff, rendering Ableton mixes will now seem like a breeze when compared to my old AMD 3000+ desktop. Just a concern as to what my 120gb choice of hdd will turn out like in reality (I forget that you don't get all of the quoted size).

I was going to buy a new laptop a year ago, and my car died, so...there went the laptop. Then I lost my job. So, still no laptop. But now, I've got a car, I've got a job, and, I've just ordered not one but TWO laptops (one for the wife, too, as hers is ancient). Here's what I ordered. Can't wait to get these babies:

    Mine:
    XPS M1530
    T7500 2.2GHz
    Tuxedo Black
    3GB RAM
    1440x900
    8600M GT
    250GB 5400RPM
    DVD+/-RW
    HD Audio
    Intel Wireless N
    Bluetooth
    6 cell
    3 year warranty

    Hers:
    Inspiron 1520
    T2750 2.0GHz
    Jet Black
    2GB RAM
    1280x900
    8600M GT
    160GB 5400RPM
    DVD+/-RW
    HD Audio 2.0
    Dell Wireless G
    6 cell
    3 year warranty

Total for both was 2385 after tax. I got 12% off with the EPP from my company, since I bought both on the same order. Plust 4% for Dell financing. Overall I'm pretty happy. I'm thinking though that I should've bumped her down to the 8400, and got a 7200RPM drive on mine, since I'll be gaming and she won't. Oh well, I'm sure we'll both be more than happy. :)

My 1520 bought through the EPP purchase program arrived Tuesday. Haven't had time to test all the gadgets yet, but so far it looks and acts terrific!

No cosmetic issues. No CPU whine yet. No static or other noise when listening through headphones. The Samsung screen looks very nice (didn't get high-res). Colors are quite vibrant. I did have to back off the Gamma a bit through NVIDIA. No grainyness. The brown case color is not as dark (near black) as some have said it is. Very cool looking. The keybord is level. No looseness in the power jack. XP rocks. No need for Vista. They didn't send any ear buds, but who needs 'em. Watched Pirates I on DVD. Had to set the DVD format to US. Not sure why it wasn't already. The movie looked and sounded great. Now if I can figure out how to save movies to my HD. DHL said they came by Monday morning and tried to deliver, but they didn't! I would have seen them since I was camped out at the front door... lol Going to get a USB mouse tomorrow.

    Any questions?

Not a bad machine so far! :)

will buy gig extra ram of ebay maybe , kingston stick selling for 30 quid

    Dell XPS m1530
    ordered 23 Jan UK.
    T-75 2.2Ghz
    2 gig ram
    160 gig 7200rpm HDD
    8600M GT DDR3

Not to worried about the screen. If it's not what I think is quality they will be replacing it. Dell has exceptional CS.
