I'm on the verge of ordering the Dell Inspiron 1525 but can't decide on whether to go with the Dell Wireless 1395 mini card included in the price or shell out extra $$$ for the Intel 3945 mini card.

Anyone know if the Intel is better and worth the extra money ??

I'm very excited about getting it ... it'll be my first laptop :)

I think I saw a similar thread about this. Anyway, for 25 dollars (the extra I paid) go with the Intel. I've seen several people recommend the Intel over the Dell.

My XPS 1330 arrived today. I haven't even opened the box yet. Reading this forum has scared me of this laptop. Is there anything I should check for? Cracked hinge, lcd screen (I didn't get the LED, wanted the 2.0mp Webcam) or anything else?

Give it a once over by looking around for any defects, but remember as long as your happy with it then keep it and enjoy it. Don't let people telling you that your screen is grainy or whatever influence your decision over whether you like it. It's your laptop all that matters is your happy! :D

Just got my 1530, and I have to say unequivocally, the screen is the most crap-tacular screen I've ever seen. I don't even care about the graininess, its just really dim. Turning up the brightness just washes everything out. I've already call support, they've already promised an LG but have shipped out the samsung again. I'm going to let the tech replace it and if its still dull, I'm going to return the laptop. My dad's hp cost half as much and his screen is so much brighter.

Waiting for my Vostro 1500 too...only in this case, this will be my 2nd laptop unless you consider the fact that I got my first one in late December...which I'll be giving away.

Just ordered my m1330 a few hours ago, expected ship date set to Feb. 7th...

Pretty excited to use it after lugging around an Inspiron 9100 for the last 3.5 years or so!

I have had to cancel my order. Thanks to Dell giving me a torrent of verbal abuse down the phone.

Nah, only joking. My fiancee is now out of work and looking for a new job, even though there is a great saving on the m1530, I don't think I can justify forking out 700 notes on a spangly new laptop. Well at least I've inherited a Compaq n1015v. Gaming is fantastic. I can display static images from Crysis on the screen. :/

Will wait until the next inevitable onslaught of Dell savings to begin again. They always happen.

Yep, and that they do. Especially with competition from HP, Lenovo, and Acer/Gateway heating up, we can expect a LOT of discounts to come up. Already I'm seeing discounts on laptops from all three manufacturers appearing at least on a weekly basis in retail stores online and B&M.

WHOA WHOA...basically it took 7-8 days for them to manufacture and ship your notebook? :eek2: That is FAST. I think around September to December I used to read about a lot of complaints from customers who kept having their orders delayed for months.

Here's what my order confirmation letter says:

    Order Date: 1/30/2008

    Est. Ship Date: 2/6/2008

    Date: 2/11/2008-2/13/2008

Basically I'll have to expect it to arrive in two weeks.

I know. This is my first custom laptop. But 7-8 days? I hope that the e-mail was just making conservative estimates! Otherwise, I would like mine to also arrive in 7-8 days too!

Indeed, I just keep an eye on the HotUKDeals website now. Let them do all the work for me. All I have to do is find something with a Dell Deals tag on it, click it, and then see whats on offer. There's usually someone out there who configures a bargain system, plus attaches relevant discount codes too.

Once the madam is in work again, out will come the plastic!

Even taking off the 5 day maximum shipping time, that's 12 days to assemble the parts which I would assume have already been stocked up ahead of time...or rather should be.

I dunno about the current supply/demand dynamics, but that notebook you're buying...wasn't it just recently released in the past couple of months? A few deal sites I occasionally check show discounts for it. If that's the case, then I wouldn't be surprised if Dell were to be facing a lot of demand for a notebook whose parts are just beginning to get manufactured in China/Vietnam/some other country with cheap labor.

Okay, had to get past a separate computing problem before I could post my own brag, but I've had my red XPS1530 now for about a week. The gory details:

    * T7500 2.2Ghz CPU (I wanted that 4MB cache!)
    * 3GB RAM
    * 160GB HD, already wishing I'd gone one bigger :)
    * 1680x1050 screen, Samsung, but not noticing severe grain issue as others have. Do wish it were a bit brighter, though.
    * GeForce 8600 w/256MB dedicated
    * Vista Home Premium upgraded to Vista Ultimate
    * Slot-load DVD

This lappy is a replacement for a 3.5 year old Inspiron 9100, and actually that box was more of a DTR than a true notebook. This thing, by comparison, is light as a feather. It arrived nearly two weeks ahead of its scheduled ship date - ordered 1/18, and it arrived on 1/23.

Overall, to be honest, my reactions are positive...here's a summary:

    * The keyboard has a bit of a crown in the middle - don't know if that's by design, or just a sloppy installlation.
    * The keyboard, as is becoming more prevalent among other lappy manufacturers, are moving the Home/PgUp/PgDn keys to the extreme right side of the board. That's a killer for a touch typist who has grown accustomed to their presence in the upper right-hand corner.
    * The screen is the Samsung variety, which is savaged by most owners here as having an untenable grain, either doesn't have the grain, or my eyes don't discern it. I do wish the backlight were a bit stronger. Maxed-out brightness still seems a shade below my old Insprion 9100
    * Fingerprint reader is VERY touchy; I have to moisten my finger slightly for it to capture a scan or it simply won't recognize anything.
    * The slot-load DVD is one of my FAVORITE features. Put in media about halfway, and the capture mechanism grabs it gently and pulls it in for you. My only misgiving here is how would one retrieve a CD or DVD if the "Eject" command within Windows failed
    * I realize everyone (or at least most new lappy owners) shares this pain: my 160GB HD is pre-polluted with a 10GB recovery partition, and another partition for Dell Media Direct Uselessware.
    * The buttons on the touchpad have *entirely* too much travel to engage a "click," necessarily making double-clicking seem really strange.

I'm already in the early stages of assembling a WinXP setup disc with nLite as others have described here, and repartitioning the drive to create a dual-boot configuration. I can't help but think this machine will ROCK with XP. After playing with Vista for a week, and trying to give it a chance, I find it to be a lethargic, gasping whale, and I"m going to see how this box performs with XP...

    More later.

    -David

So I just received my new M1530 today and I got to say that I'm pretty impressed especially when compared to the Inspiron 1520 I just returned. The midnight blue is much darker than the Dell site makes it appear, which is excellent (actually identical to the 1520's midnight blue). The fingerprint reader is very easy to use, and the hard drive noise is nothing compared to what people have made it out to be. I ran an initial 3dmark06 before I gave it a clean install, scores before are attached for now, I will attach more post clean install later. I also ended up receiving the lg monitor which is very sharp and bright, just beautiful.

    Hi guys,
I just got my M6300 with x7900 2,8 Ghz and 4 Gb of ram,Quadro fx1600m...and I want to share my results with you....

    few thoughts first:
I love the screen,... (WUXGA 1920x1200 non glare)very bright, suitable also for outside work, almost zero reflection, highly recommended

Keyboard, only one word - great, it would be nice if the people in Dell integrated keypad, but I wont cry about it...

Noise level: what noise,.. it`s so quiet, even with all fans working full

heat: no problem also,.. even after one hour of hard benchmarking it was cold as ice, a few degrees above room temperature

I read on some forums about whine noise coming from inside notebook ( various Dell models), I locked myself in toilet with M6300 and heard nothing (I was listening for 20 minutes)

the looks: some says it`s ugly, but I love it,...

CONS: nothing really , ok,.. they could put the microphone in the unit

    the results:

Cinebench 10 (render time with both cores was 2:44)

Haha, poteen. Sorry to hear that. You should call 1-800-433-9014 to check your order status by phone. I've heard that it's often a bit more updated than online.

For me...all I can say is...WOW. Ordered on the 30th of January, 2:30am in the the morning (which would be January 30th 6:30pm in Malaysia). Order status was in production until just now. Called using the number above, automated voice said order was BOXED. I go back to the website 10 minutes later, order got SHIPPED. Dell must really be working on customer satisfaction!

EDIT: It was shipped to the carrier according to the automated phone service. Dammit! It looks like I'll be anticipating it arriving ON TIME instead of ahead of schedule!

Yeah I was called up yesterday by the guy who help me configure the laptop and said they had a problem confirming my VISA (it was a problem with their system, not my card) so he had to cancel the current order and make a new one which means I basically lost 3 days.. The new order is in Phase 2 (no surprise).

He DID say however, that he was sorry for the inconvenience and that he would mark the order as a "priority" order so it should be delivered even faster than before.. At least thats what he said.

    Lets see what happens.

EDIT: Congratulations on your coming laptop btw ;) (Also, disregard the PHASE 3 in my sig.. :( )

    Thanks!

But dude...it's great they're prioritizing your shipping. I'm sorry to hear you had to get it re-ordered. But I STILL say I'm jealous of you people, haha. Your CPU is one generation newer than mine, even as mine is one of the last of the Santa Rosa line. Yours is one of Penryn's first...it comes with that integrated memory controller that taps into the RAM's clock speed up to 800mhz if the RAM supports it. Your graphics card is going to be a killer, SLI!!. 400gb hard drive is crazy. To top that off, you got the limited edition bone white color. I think that might explain any potential delays you might encounter. Judging from the size of your screen, the power of the processor, and the new graphics card, I'd say you're getting a gamer's machine.

So...how much did your laptop come out to?! I paid just over $800 for mine, but the 4gb upgrades for me should come out to $30-70 depending on whether I decide to salvage my 2gb RAM stick or just get an entirely new 4gb and use the 2gb as a carrot bonus when I sell my laptop.

Well, while it's true that my coming laptop will be extremely fast - especially with the xtreme processor, the SLI 8800 GTX and the Raid-0 solution then I'm pretty sure that the extreme processor is the Santa Rosa and not the Penryn (unfortunately).

But I think the laptop came out around 5000$ (I bought it in Denmark and converted to euro it was ~3.300€ ;).

It's alot.. ALOT... But when I set mind on getting something I can't rest until I get it :D

I have been playing around on my new M1530 since 31st jan 08 :D

Imp specs are as follows -
    256MB 8600GT
    2GB Ram
    2.2GHz Proc
    160GB HDD
    9cell Li Ion batt
    15.4" WXGA true life .
Creative sound blaster audigy ? HD ...

Didn't change much on the ordering site except for the graphics card , the batt , adapter and the processor and the sound card :)

I have to say its been extremely pleasing to work on it though the only gripe is that I had to do a full re-install after just 4 days ... :( its back to normal now though :D

    Hello all!

I ordered my new Dell a couple of days ago:

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7500 (4MB cache/2.2GHz/800Mhz FSB)
Midnight Blue Color with Microsatin Finish
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz, 2 Dimm
High Resolution, glossy widescreen 14.1 inch display (1440 x 900)
    128MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 8400M GS
    Windows Vista™ Premium
    250G 5400RPM SATA HDD
Integrated NIC and Modem Integrated 10/100 Network Card and Modem
    8X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
    Integrated High Definition Audio
    Dell Wireless 1505 Wireless-N Mini-card
    Integrated 2.0 Megapixel Webcam
85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
Dell Wireless 355 Bluetooth Internal (2.0 + Enhanced Data Rate)

I have to admit, I work for Future Shop (Bestbuy Canada); I've been getting razzed a lot at work about this one :D
I didn't know about Dell coupons, but I still managed to get this for $1294 before tax. I just hate waiting for the computer to come. :(
The biggest focuses for me were having a more portable notebook (14.1, 9 cell battery, Wireless-N, Bluetooth) and a lot of storage (250gb). The powerful processor and discreet graphics are a great bonus, and I couldn't believe I could get a T7500 for this price (The cheapest T7250 laptop at Future Shop is $1600!)

    ARGGG.

    Delivery date is a bit...misplaced.

Dell's order status page finally provided shipping info, but the way the info is placed on the website is a bit confusing:

    Shipping Method: 3-5 Business Days
    Shipped Date: 2/4/2008
    Est. Delivery Date: 2/6/2008
    Carrier: DHL EXPRESS
    Tracking Number: XXXXXXXX

DHL's website: 2/5/2008 12:00 am Shipment Acknowledged Sparks, NV

I'm assuming from this alone that Dell's website's info was simply showing a delivery date for the notebook's arrival at the DHL facility.

My residence is back here down in Southern California and because "DHL Express" is just a general name for their shipping services overall, I'll have to assume that they're actually using their 1-6 days ground service! I just had to send my Compaq notebook in to get the screen repaired...so I'm without a notebook for a few days. I'm now reduced to using my bro's clunky desktop until the notebook arrives! :(

EDIT: Ok that's up in the air. ASSUMING that the DHL dudes ship it out by today as they SHOULD, it should arrive tomorrow. But the only info that's showing up on DHL's site is "Shipment Acknowledged."

    My new Vostro 1500 arrived today :) :) :) :)

    specs:
    Intel Core 2 Duo T5270, 1.4GHz, 800Mhz, 2M L2 Cache
    15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA
    2GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 DIMM
    128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
    120G 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
with XP Home!(although I have the Pro Disc)

Not many of the bells and whistles of some of the previous systems, but for 629 USD delivered I thought it was a good deal.

Thanks to many who gave free advice. ( It is my first laptop :) )

Wow, that seems a little high. You should wait until another 30% off coupon surfaces.

I ordered mine on 1/30 with much higher specs for not much more to my door. It was around $800. I got a 2.0ghz Core 2 Duo, 256 8600M GT video card, Intel Pro Wireless Card, WXSGA+ screen, etc.

Other than that, you will love this laptop. I just got mine yesterday and I am thoroughly impressed.

    oh well that figures! haha

thats ok i guess.. its not for me anyways its for my wife.. I was going to get the Inspiron 1525 in pink but i used my friend business account and you can't get an Inspiron using a biz account.

I have thought about getting the LCD lid cover and palm rest for the pink 1525 and swap it all out for her.

Mine still hasn't arrived! It's with the carrier in Riverside.

What's taking them so long?! You live closer to the border with Mexico for crying out loud. How'd you get yours earlier?!

    Ok so it did arrive.

    Some notes

    Cons (compared to my Compaq)

-Speakers aren't as nice quality...though they are louder. Good for rap music, I guess

-Bigger and clunkier...based on an old-fashioned design that's dying out quickly as notebooks are getting slimmer and slimmer

-USB ports aren't located very nicely. Not a huge con. 2 on back, 2 on right side

-Sound quality (on headphone jack) - After comparing mp3 players and headphones....I think i can say that the Compaq's sound quality was much better. This is coming out of my Jabra C820s.

    Pros

    -A LOT faster CPU-wise
-Graphics card hasn't been tested...but boy am I excited to test it
-Wireless card - I know this like all others is an apples and oranges comparison. But this wireless N card is fast. Registered 5/5 bars on signal strength as opposed to other card's 4/5 wireless g connection. I'm finding that web page loading speed is even faster.

    Not sure yet

Screen - seems alright, didn't order higher def...kinda regret not getting glossy. But nontheless not sure if I'm imagining it, but the contrast seems slightly better than my compaq screen's

Just a heads up to anyone else "stuck" in "Pre-production"-phase. It seems that its very much true what everyone else is saying, that calling DELL and asking for the order can give you a more precise status since they're telling me that my laptop is actually in production :)

Wow. All this bad news about shipping time is starting to worry me. I really hope it's better in Australia :/

Anyways, wanted to get an Alpine white 1530, and while normally I don't care about things like that, it really got to me that they just took the option away all of a sudden. Then I discovered that Product Red was available in Australia! Soooo...

Product Red XPS M1530 (Crimson Red. Duh)

    Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 (2.4GHz)
    4GB 667MHz DDR2
    256MB NVIDIA GFORCE 8600M GT
    200GB Hard Drive 7200 RPM
Windows Vista 32 bit (so yeah, about 500MB of RAM is mostly useless)
    1680 x 1050 WSXGA+ Display

$2,448 (AUD). Which is about $2179.07 (US)

Ordered it today. Hope it gets here before 24th at least... What do you think my chances are of that?
