I just bought a MSI PX60 for $900 it came and had a TN screen so instead of paying a 15% restocking fee + shipping I decided I would rather just swap the screen for a realyl good IPS screen (since I like the laptop except for the screen), the screen is a 1920x1080, Matte, LED,Slim, 30pin, etc,
so far I can get a pulled (refurb) Dell Branded LTN156HL02-201 for $55, or a new LTN156H02-301 ($80 to $90), or a HL01-B01 $68, etc, I was thinking of getting a HL06-C1 (but that one has a glossy screen so I'm not sure how food that one is and it's hard to find a seller of these anyone know?), mostly I want a bright screen (right now I'm, using a 400nit Samsung 13.3" screen laptop which I like I'd like 15.6" screen that is also bright (not 400nit but maybe 330, etc). any suggestions?
-
I can't wait for dell to update this laptop... maybe a 1060 seeing as the cooling was already really good.
-
I'm interested in buying this laptop, but i'd like to know if there will be an updated version in the near future? Is there a specific period when Dell announces new laptops?
-
How easy is to replace the thermal paste on this laptop? Should I unscrew only the two fans?
-
you have to completely disassemble the base unit, fighting with very stiff, brittle plastic clips around the palmrest seal -
I'm looking for a laptop and the 7559 is 10% off on dell website so now it's 900€ with i7 + 8GB of ram. It's a great deal but I'd like to know more about the maintenance so that my next laptop can last as long as possible.Last edited by a moderator: Sep 12, 2016 -

i have dissasembled my 7559, replace thermal paste (MX2), wifi(7260), ssd(2x sams 850evo), lcd (LG ..WF6) ... and now i want to push graphics card little higher, but i dont know how to find vBios in bios and i cant find anybody willing to help me with this
for succesfull bios mod i will donate $$
-
Howewer, without replacing thermal paste how much can a laptop like this last with a bit of gaming? -
but it can by done, patiance, follow the service manual. no prob bro
(i wont ever dissasemble this)
-
If you're gonna disassemble it, be careful with the side bezels of the palm rest cover/enclosure. They are held on by plastic that can be snapped off, and no they don't clip back on securely. Behind the speaker grille area is also a weak point. Try not to bend it. Basically follow the step in the service manual and you should be fine.
On a side note:
What screens do these usually come with? Specifically the 1080p panels. I know there's the BOE and the LG Phillips or whatever. But which one is considered better overall?
As for 10XX series graphics, I don't expect a 1060 update anytime soon. Especially when the cheapest 1060 laptop right now is 1250-1300 US dollars. So unless they up the price or wait for next series of mobile graphics.....Last edited: Sep 13, 2016 -

Anyone have the latest track pad drivers/software? There's a setting for Windows where the track pad automatically disables whenever a mouse is connected. I'm currently using a wireless mouse and the track pad disables just fine. However, even if I disconnect the mouse (it uses a wireless dongle, not Bluetooth) the track pad is still disabled. The Windows setting states that a mouse is still connected. My mouse is the Logitech G602. It may possibly be the Logitech software that's messing with the function.
Another issue I'm having is whenever I search anything from the start menu, some items cannot be clicked on. I searched the issue and it seems to be an indexing issue or something with Cortana.
Update: I just installed an Elan driver/software but none of the settings seems to do anything.Last edited: Sep 18, 2016 -
I have the same problem with my mouse. I right click on the mouse propertys and pin it to the start menu to create a shortcut to enable/disable it easy. Also have a shortcut for bluetooth and Paint so I dont have to look for them all the time.

Do you guys find your laptop to be kind of loud? I have a on TB harddrive and im not sure if its that or the fans making the constant whirring sound when I use my computer to browse. Foe the people who only have ssd"s are your laptops quiet under light use?
-
Hey guys - Just bought this laptop along with an extra 8GB of RAM (already installed - so very easy!)
Anything I should know about this laptop as I start putting it through it's paces? -
Just bought for 913€. At this price is a huge deal. Shipment was free and I saved 10% from the amount. I've received a confirmation mail and it should be delivered by 7 October.

Hey guys, anyone here with the 4k touch version? How is the battery life? And at 6lb, is it too heavy for everyday transit? Im thinking of getting one for university since there is an ongoing promo dell's site
-
Not sure about battery life, I use mine as a desktop. The touch screen is kinda useless. Mine is a Samsung and its very nice but I cant play any games unless its 900P. The graphics card just wont handle the high resolutions. Compared to a similar performance laptop from a few years back this is way thinner and lighter. I got my touch screen almost free as it was on sale, but I wouldnt pay extra for one unless you have a specific use for it. Better off with faster HDD and more ram.

I switched my screen from the original BOE LG's LP156WF6-SPB1 and the whole process went smoothly. Unfortunately, I'm now having weird problems between my screen and the laptop.
- The screen is beautiful and doesn't have an issue where it suddently stops working.
- The level that the laptop believe the screen is at is screwed up. The screen won't get detected when over half way open and will only turn on when below that (5 blue flashes followed by 2 orange).
- I'll sometimes lose mouse control when the laptop is fully open.
- As time pogrosses, I usually lose access to shortcuts (such as alt tab or windows button) and can't open the menu by clicking.
- Sometimes while asleep, the screen will readjust the resolution to something lower (last it went to 800/600)
- Sometimes I can reset those problem by putting the laptop the sleep.

Can anyone explain how in the heck you clean reinstall windows on this thing? I have the Dell image but I can't seem to get it to work no matter which way I go. Followed the instructions to put it onto a USB stick, plug it in, restart the computer hitting F12. I pick the five or sixth option in the menu (whichever the USB one is under UEFI). Machine reboots, seems like it's booting off the USB drive, then ignores it and goes to boot the SSD. Also tried burning it onto a DVD. Plug DVD drive in, F12, select DVD drive under UEFI, this time I get a nasty error ("boot configuration data for your PC is missing or contains errors"). Machine reboot a little while after back off the SSD. Finally just threw in the towel and decided to do a reset through W10 (hopefully it works), but there has to be some procedure that works to reinstall it the "normal" way (for future reference?
-
The "recovery image" download didn't work so they sent me one for free. Just ask the support.
If you don't want to wait, try Rufus.
Maybe something went wrong while creating a bootable usb image. -
Have you tried turning fast start-up off?

Hi,
I've read this thread with interest since getting delivery of my 7559 with the BOE screen.
I can't find anywhere that stocks the screens recommended on this thread, can anyone help?
Laptopscreen.com only have the LTN156HL01-B01 or the LTN156HL01-B03 in stock. Any idea how good these are?
talum-it ebay only have N156HCE-EAA
Thanks

New Inspiron ?? http://www.dell.com/ch/fr/p/inspiron-15-7566-laptop/pd?ref=PD_OC
"Upgrades" are pretty disappointing and it look ugly imho -
Regardless how is it new? It's still using the same CPU and GPU. It should have gotten a 1060. -
-
Plenty on Amazon and ebay.

To people who can boot this from power button press to win screen in under 10 seconds, how? For me the longest it takes for that bios screen to load.
-
I've bought this laptop and while it is on the way to me I was looking for a replacement screen, cuz anyway it will have either BOE or LG SMP1... So, I've narrowed my search to Samsung LTN156HL01-102 as many of you guys have advertised. Asking many resellers, all of them have only replacement models. I almost got sad, but suddenly realised that I am currently looking at this exact panel in my Asus N550JK lol
Now I am thinking if it is possibe to swap these panels...
Or if somebody of you know where I can get this HL01-102 please share the link. I am in Germany. -
A little bit unfortunate that we can't undervolt the 960m as that would take this laptop to another level.
Did manage to offset the CPU core & cache by -160mV in throttlestop (though now it's running 50C at desktop whereas before it was running 40C, odd..)
Anyways, does anyone know anything about this panel?
LG Philips [LGD04B9] 156WF6 [DELL P/N: 9HG62] LGD04B9
It's 1080p, IPS, looks quite nice (coming from awful TN screen). Are there better ones? -
Does anyone know how to disable the touchpad while typing for this laptop in ubuntu 16.04? I've tried everything I've found online and nothing seems to work
-
I'm having some issues with the speakers, a kind of popping crackling noise, I've just took two videos.
before:

after bios update:

After the bios update it seems working better and the noise is not as much as before, definitely improved but it still persists a bit.
Should I rma my laptop or it's a driver issue? This is the first day that I have been using it.Last edited by a moderator: Oct 7, 2016 -

Where do I find that setting to turn down the sub-woofer?
Cpu at idle is between 48 and 52C, is it normal? Fans don't spin until it reaches 70C. Should I manage something? I don't see any tool.Last edited by a moderator: Oct 8, 2016 -

Another issue, my mouse starts lagging in multitasking.Last edited by a moderator: Oct 12, 2016 -
Not really sure about the mouse, you said that it was a razer before your update so maybe update synapse drivers or something? I still have the audio issue so it is not really managed yet, maybe just disable speedfan and that will take care of the fans? Still i don't really know honestly.
-
For the audio, I've installed the bios 1.1.8 and it seems fixed.
As for the fan speeds I'm struggling a bit with that tool so for now I prefer to keep dell's default settings. Cpu temperature running normal tasks as web browsing and some programs in background doesn't increase above 60C, should be fine with fans turned off.
edit: Fixed teperatures as well, I turned off optimus and forced nvidia as primary gpu, now temperatures are 10C cooler.Last edited by a moderator: Oct 12, 2016 -
For anyone who's installed a new wifi card was it hard? My wifi in my home is sucking pretty bad on this laptop where it's a lot better on my older one. What wifi card did you get and was it expensive? I wish we could search for things in threads.
-
I ran Gta V yesterday and all is blurry and washed out, the sky looks more grey than light blue, it doesn't match the desktop accuracy. I know, is not the best display, but is something that I've never experienced in any display. Could it be a driver issue? I've already installed the latest.

Then I swapped in an SSD and installed windows 7, grabbed latest dell/realtek audio drivers from their driver page and still no problems whatsoever.
I would suggest maybe running a DPC latency checker tool - could be some other drivers or software causing this problem.
As an example I know MBAM version 1.something's internet protection feature caused audio pops, and running AIDA64's system stability monitor also triggers audio pops on my machine - so now I don't use either.
On my inspiron 7559 with the i7-6700HQ idle CPU temps are between 30-45C (32C as I'm typing this up), so I'd say yours is running a little hot but to be fair we don't know what your ambient temps are.
I wasn't aware speedfan was compatible with this laptop but you could try or also consider repasting (probably not worth the hassle) or undervolting.
FWIW I'm running -165mV on the CPU Core/Cache and that seems to be functionally stable.
EDIT: Beware though for anyone going to undervolt on this machine, at least on bios 1.0.4 & windows 7 undervolts seem to persist through reboots (this is something to do with how Dell configured the CPU - and not the undervolting software (throttlestop) ). I've been caught in countless boot loops now and only managed to escape by getting just enough desktop time to go into throttlestop and disable the undervolt, so be careful.
Dell doesn't seem to have a whitelist of wireless cards unlike lenovo or HP so you could use anything you wanted so long as its in the NGFF form factor.
I personally swapped the (3000 something forgot the name) preinstalled intel card with an ac 7265 which was ~20$.
There's a particular broadcom ac card that's also really good - better than anything intel makes (and to be honest intel's wireless ac cards are absolute **** and plagued with driver problems that only recently they are fixing) and are wayyyyyy faster. But I forgot the name. You could probably find out what it is via google, shouldn't be much more expensive than the newer intel cards. Maybe like 30$? 35$?Last edited: Oct 14, 2016Rowan likes this. -
How does your games look with the latest driver and how did you calibrate your display? I'm having serious problems, colors look washed out and blurry. That doesn't happen on youtube because I guess it was running with the integrated graphics card. Colors in the latter are totally fine.
I've tried a clean installation of windows 10 but it doesn't fix the problem.
edit: I've improved a bit increasing the saturation to 100% on intel graphics control panel but looks like there's something wrong with the calibration.Last edited by a moderator: Oct 14, 2016 -
I had never installed a new wifi card before and seem to have screwed things up. I've changed out other things in laptops and been fine so this surprised me and is making me pretty frustrated. The two wires won't snap onto the top of the new wifi card and won't snap onto the old one either when I tried it as a last resort. Not sure what to do now. I feel like an idiot.
-
Take pictures of the connectors on the wires and in the card.
-
Sorry this is blurry. It's the best pic I could get with my phone. I tried different angles and etc.
