Same problem, it's a loose screw from the bottom base cover. If you tightened it but it's still coming off, that means that the screw lock on the bottom base cover is broken.

    This part.

Perhaps someone here knows the answer to this question, did the 7559 ever come with a 1080P touch screen option?

I ask because I just purchased one from Dell Outlet purporting to have one. I did choose the system over another because of that fact and also because it was the cheapest ($431 shipped).

The exact description is "15.6 inch FHD (1920x1080) touch display 0NJ2D" Looking into it, it would seem this is an IPS panel used in systems such as the 7558.

Worst case scenario I will threaten a return for false advertisement and get at least a $50 refund (which would make this a stellar deal IMHO) . But I would have liked to have the touch screen.

I got them to fix mine in Feb. but in record time it's started to separate again. It seems to happen from something as simple as opening and closing the lid. I haven't dropped or hit it on anything.

It's so annoying and I think it's affecting the adapter and maybe the sound on my computer too. When I first started noticed the separation starting last year mine would make this weird bogged down slow motion noise if I removed the adapter when I had any type of audio playing. Now I'm getting the "not charging" messages at times when I plug my adapter back in. I've tried this with more then one of them so the adapters aren't the issue.

I extended my warranty in Feb. because I had a feeling issues were going to continue. I miss using my old 17in Inspiron 5720 but that one has an issue of shutting down completely if the adapter comes out. That one started having weird issues with the adapter staying plugged in near the end of full time usage which contributed to me purchasing this 7559.

I'm so tired of dealing with Dell laptops and their weird issues and fighting with them to get things fixed.

Did they replace ur chassis from bottom case to palmrest? If so, and if my intuition is correct, the hinge is probably very stiff that the chassis can't handle the stress.

Well, it is a shame the VBIOS is locked on these machines. The 960m just isnt enough for me. I have mine running +135 and +600mhz and its still struggling on BF1 no matter the resolution. Almost as if its bandwidth starved. As soon as you render a large scene such as from an airplane or looking over a field the FPS just drops to like 38-40. Its mainly the huge framerate variance that I hate, game get all choppy.

The 1060 on my desktop 2560x1440 @ ultra runs the game so, so much better with a nearly consistent 60+ FPS in every scenario. I dont think even +300 Mhz on the core would do much for the 960m. It simply isnt good enough.

Selling this and getting a 1050 Ti or above laptop. 960m is unfortunately just too old at this point but it is a trooper ill give it that! Someone at Nvidia needs to be smacked in the mouth for selling the 960m as a rebranded 860. the 965m is always what the 960m SHOULD have been.

There is no better option than this laptop unfortunately. The successor of this one with 1050ti is damn ugly and less good quality. The XPS 9560 with 1050 just a little faster and way more expensive. So better keep this one I guess.

Opps, i was wrong, I just found the real successor of this laptop, the Inspiron 5577 :). Finally, there is a laptop for to change.

Anyone know how to get permit Dolby Atmos(for headphone on the headphone jack)

    ?
I discovered if you download the Realtek HD package from thier website.

Then run it;. It will uninstall something, then reboot.

Upon reboot instead of having speakers/headphone in sound control panel you will haves

    *speakers
    *headphones.

You can then enable Dolby Atmos for Headphone jack.

Windows will then after about a minute or 2 pop up and say you need to restart. IF/WHEN you restart it will go back to speakers/headphones in the sound control panel and you will lose spatial sound opitions for speakers/headphones

Does anyone know a way to keep
    *Speakers
    *headphone

Separation permantely to keep Dolby Atmos (for headphones)? I’ve also noticed upon resuming from sleep Dolby Atmos needs to be turned back on which is a few clicks.

Is it a 8 bits panel or 6 bits? On panelook it shows 6 bits, but on laptopscreen it doesn't show anything. Is it a big difference from 8 bits BOE (with bad color accuracy) and 6 bits LP156WF6-SPB1 with better colors?

    Thank you

Hi man, I was really looking forward to flash a custom BIOS, so I can enable hotplug for one of the PCIe ports.
I need to do this to get an egpu working on this laptop.

Could you please provide the unlocked bios file that you flashed? I do have secure boot disabled in my current bios, so I think flashing that bios will not brick my device, right?

Would you help me to make this work?

Maybe you could help me as well?

I see you successfully did this, maybe you could also help me...

Oh, I'm sorry - I never "unlocked" the BIOS. You mean enabling all the crazy options that you usually have on desktops? Only my vBios was modified to enable voltage control and unlimited overclocking past +135 MHz. And I never got to try these experimental changes...

I think secure boot is not boot guard. Maybe the TPM option includes boot guard, but I don't know. Verified boot is another keyword to be aware of.

There's a nice blog that I just found.

Someone even uploaded a presentation and a video showing how to enable boot guard ( part 1 / part 2)

Keep in mind that you are playing with fire ...

I don't actually need an unlocked bios. What I really want is to enable hot plug for one of the PCIe ports, so I can use my egpu with this laptop. I tried EFI Shell (to change the bios variable that corresponds to this option) but didn't had much success. Do you know something about this?

No, I don't know much about eGPU's and can't afford more experiments. But I'm curious, how far did you make it? Do you have a working setup that got busted by recent Nvidia drivers?
Grub2 is mentioned as a fix.

I have a working setup with a corsair PSU, exp gdc Beast 8.4d and a geforce 1050ti. And yes, unfortunately nvidia is blocking eGPU setups on purpose, and a known fix for that is enabling the hot plug for the PCIe port.

I have searched quite a lot about this issue but there's not much info about bios modding for this laptop. Thanks for the suggested links, I already knew the second one (looks like the OP did tried to flash the unlocked bios but the advanced menus didn't showed up). I'll probably reply to that thread asking for help as well... I'm aware of that thread in egpu.io either, I've trying the workaround #2 without success.

About the Grub2 stuff, I did tested a few EFI shells based on grub (I'm not sure if they were version 2). But everytime I try to enter the command (setup_var 0x73F) I got an error (offset is out of range), so I never achieved to change the variable.

Thanks a lot for trying to help me, I'm so frustrated at this point, if you can help me with anything I appreciate.

    @DasPez
I've also tried this "RU" EFI tool (link below) and searched for the variable. But I'm not sure how to use the software.
I can even list the PCIe devices, but I'm still figuring out how the tool works and how to modify stuff with it.

Do you think its possible to do what I want? Maybe doing the EFI variable change in the BIOS rom file and save a modified one that I could flash? Do you know how to do this? The variable is 0x73F, the current value is 0x0 and it need to be 0x1.

I wonder if we can properly use EFI shell to change the variable if we disable Protect BIOS Environment (using the method of that video) or other options like Verified Boot and Boot Guard...

I can't help you. My Laptop has exactly the same security settings and got bricked after flashing a modified BIOS... I haven't heard of a single successful bios modification for our Inspiron 7559 yet.
Bootguard, Verified boot etc need to be taken care of ... I guess the tools shown in the video are the way to go, but he is in "Manufacturing Mode" and "closes" it after he is done, locking the flash region. That could be a problem too...

EDIT: The ME region is probably locked. I can't even dump it.

So, in order to do anything, we need to unlock the ME Region.
I read something about this somewhere, I'll investigate... It has to be a way...
It's probably because of this lock that is not possible to use EFI shell to change variables, but I'm just guessing...

The EFI shell can be used to unlock the ME region in some cases.
    Found here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/guide-dell-precision-m6800-m4800-sbios-mod.788481/
Our BIOS is based on AMI Aptio V, maybe that's why the EFI Shell doesn't work.

Hmm, I saw this guide a couple of days ago. Btw I've searched on a bios backup that I have and found most of those options under "List of variables" and their corresponding variable codes.
Then I booted on EFI shell but no matter what I type I got the error "offset is out of range". I wonder if there is any EFI shell that supports aptio V... Or maybe something more needs to be unlocked, like using that method of the video...
I was so hopeful to find a solution to this, but it's becoming more and more chalenging...

How did you search for those offsets ( 0x73F etc. )? What EFI shell are you using? I'll try to reproduce your errors

@DasPez I'm trying another approach here. I managed to backup my current bios with AFUWIN and changed the Hot plug variable to "enabled" with AMIBCP, saving the modified rom with another name.

I'm really considering flashing it with FPTW64 but I'm afraid to happen the same as happened to you. A bricked device...

Although the modification you did to you your rom was a little bit more complex, so maybe you bricked yours because of the unlocked vBIOS.

Either way, do you know if I can recover BIOS using the builtin "BIOS Recovery Tool" from Dell? (I already checked and our notebook is supported, you just need to press ctrl+esc while plugging the AC adapter and wait a few seconds).

More info about the Bios Recovery Tool here: http://www.dell.com/support/article...e-recuperação-de-bios-em-um-pc-ou-tablet-dell

What size is your AFUWIN backup? 8192KB? That would mean it only includes the bios region without ME. A bios only backup is possible with FPTW64 too.
    Code:
    > .\FPTW64.exe -d bios.rom -bios

Writing flash contents to file "bios.rom"...

    Memory Dump Complete
    FPT Operation Successful.
Just because I don't like AFUWIN, it crashes my wlan on bios dumps...

It could be possible that replacing option roms in MMTOOL breaks the factory signature and flipping a Boolean in AMIBCP dosen't... But I don't know.
I just noticed the "BIOS recovery from hard drive" option - must be a feature of the later versions. When my laptop was bricked, the dell support said it doesn't support bios recovery...

This feature could accelerate the bios modding progress! Maybe we can try it out with a clean unmodified bios dump.

Yes, it's an 8mb bios. I will probably try this later today when I get home.

About the Bios Recovery Tool, I was just wondering if I could use it to recover the stock bios in case something goes wrong with the FPT flashing.

I renamed the Inspiron_7559_1.2.3.EXE to BIOS_IMG.rcv and copied it to a FAT32 usb drive. The video said this will only work with OptiPlex, Latitude, XPS and Precision devices.
When I press ctrl+esc while plugging in the AC my laptop simply boots windows. Maybe the recovery tool checks the current bios before flashing and decides to keep the working version.
Or we need to contact the support for the right bios_img for our Inspiron. With no recovery medium plugged in the recovery tool stops the boot process and makes the LED beneath the touchpad blink in a 3:3 pattern, just as expected.

In my experience I sucessfully ran the recovery tool (no usb attached). But I had to keep the keys pressed a long time (around 30 seconds) after plugging the AC. Nevertheless, the pc remained turned off until a released the keys but then I saw the recovery screen with 3 options to choose. I'm gonna repeat this when I get home, just to make sure how to enter in recovery. But you should try again, it's definitely there and doesn't need an external usb to load.

Which FPT should I use? Just tried one that gave me error 201

    Code:
Error 201: [FPTw64.exe] cannot be run on the current platform.
    Please contact your vendor.

Yep. I used that one earlier today and it flashed just fine with no errors. Then I saved the bios with AFUWIN, just to make sure the change was made, and it did worked.

But when I rebooted the system, it refused to boot leading me to the "BIOS Recovery Tool" forcing me to recover the bios, otherwise it wouldn't boot.

Then I recovered the bios using the tool and the system booted normally, reverting the change that I made.

This is probably "Verified Boot" fault, right?

Nice! The recovery tool is working! Unfortunately not on my laptop. I replaced the HDD with an SSD and dualbooted linux, probably breaking this feature. There should be a bios backup in my EFI partition (created on every bios update), but there isn't. I re-flashed bios 1.2.3 two times, still no backup. There is the strange "simply boot" behavior when I release ctrl+esc after 30s. Releasing it after 4s results in the 3:3 "no backup found" LED pattern... I can't start flashing before this is fixed.

Yes, that would be my guess. It is enabled, seen in MEInfo.exe. So we need access to all flash regions to modify the security settings using Intels Flash Image Tool...

    Things on my mind:
    • if the bios backup on the efi partition is 12mb : copy it and mod it with the Flash Image Tool - the efi partition can be mounted using diskpart, the explorer wont be able to open it - powershell is the way to go! flash it using the flash utility in the boot manager (press F12 when booting)
    or
    • extract the 12mb bios from the Inspiron_7559_1.2.3.EXE using
      Code:
      .\Inspiron_7559_1.2.3.EXE /writeromfile
then mod it with Flash Image Tool and flash it using the flash utility in the boot manager (press F12 when booting) - the file can't be opened by the tool yet, maybe its encapsulated or something...
    or
    • a pin mod!
    This is getting tough ...

That's looking promissing. I have the full 12mb bios file that I extracted from the EXE, but it's a ROM file and FIT asks for BIN or XML. Do you know what to do?

When I get to that point, what exactly I'll have to modify in the file?

    BIOS Config Lock ?
Host Read Access to ME ?
Host Write Access to ME ?

    Protect BIOS Environment ?
    Measured Boot ?
    Verified Boot ?

And what is this flash utility of the boot manager? It comes with the bios? Never noticed... Gonna reboot now to see...

EDIT: Is it "BIOS Flash Update" under Other options?

And how we gonna get access the all flash regions? Flashing the modified 12mb full bios over flash utility will do the trick?

.rom and .bin can be renamed to each other. There will still be an error when you try to open it in FIT. These flash images from the website are diffrent from the flash dumps created by FPT or AFUWIN, I think.

If we ever get to that point? Trial and error.

I noticed when ever a official bios update is started, my wlan gets disabled - maybe they use AFUWIN in the background - after that, it reboots to a flash utility in the bios and "writes the main block".
Maybe that utility has elevated permissions.

But that sounds dangerous - the bios recovery tool may be damaged at last...

What was the usb bios programmer that you used to unbrick your laptop?
I need to buy one so I can backup my bios, unlock flash regions, etc.

Can you tell me which one of these is compatible? Maybe both?

There are two separate chips on the motherboard:
    Code:
    --- Flash Devices Found ---
            W25Q32BV ID:0xEF4016 Size: 4096KB (32768Kb)

            W25Q64BV ID:0xEF4017 Size: 8192KB (65536Kb)

I bricked my laptop by modifying the bios region which corresponds to the W25Q64BV.
This chip is located in the area beneath the m.2 slot. To get there, I had to disassemble the whole thing.

Your first link looks identical to my device. My CH341a was too weak for in circuit usage. You need to plug the battery in the motherboard to even read the full 8192KB. A "soic-8 sop-8 clip" is needed, soldering will be necessary otherwise.

But you have full access to the W25Q64BV anyway...
You want the W25Q32BV. I don't remember where it's located and can't guarantee that the CH341a can even read it.

Here is the official service manual. Makes taking things apart easier.

    You mean this adapter?

Let me see if I get this right... I'll have to unsolder the chip from the motherboard and attach it to the spi programmer?
With the adapter I'll be able to attach the chip to the spi programmer without soldering? Or the adapter let me do everthing without even removing the chip from the board? (EDIT: forget about this last question, I saw some photos, it's not possible to do this without unsoldering the chip from the motherboard...)
Sorry about the questions, I never mess with this kind of thing.

The Soic-8 Sop-8 test clip can be used for "in circuit programming". No solderinig required. The problem is that you need a powerful SPI programmer. Electrical loads that are connected to a pin consume power from the programmer - sometimes not enough power is left for the pin to be high.
    high == 1 == Vdd (+3.3V or +5V)
    low == 0 == Vss (~0V)
That's why I had to plug the battery into the bare motherboard. Unsoldering the chip would solve those problems but requires a lot of skill.

That's exactly what I need.... I don't wanna have to unsolder the chip from the motherboard, not enough skills either lol...
    I already found it...
    http://produto.mercadolivre.com.br/...lip-soic8-sop8-soic8-cabinhosoicreforcado-_JM

Btw, I'm pretty sure I need access to chip W25Q32BV.
That's where those security settings are... Boot Guard, Verified Boot, Bios Lock etc...
I think I only need to disable Verified Boot and I'm good to go, because as far as I know, this is the mechanism that prevents to boot with a modified bios.

Maybe you drained all the battery and your ac adapter is deffective...
Does the led in your ac adapter turns on?

EDIT: Or you may have a faulty power button. In this case, you can try to power on pressing ctrl+esc, releasing the keys a few seconds after plugging the ac adapter.

Yes it turns on. Actually i repasted this laptop and i made sure i was grounded. After repasting it turned on for 2 secs and died after. I think laptop is not trying to turn on maybe because of static electricity. But i already removed battery and cmos but still not working. Please help!

You likely forgot to plug something back in. Happened to me last time. It booted directly into some kind of emergency mode and performed a system check, telling me that I forgot to plug in the status LED (the one beneath the touch pad).

You might want to repeat the whole disassembly looking for the problem.
    The official service manual helps.

Not a single motherboard died on me because of static electricity yet - and I only touch a radiator to be grounded.

I always forget the adapter version numbers. Which ones would I be looking for that would work with the 7559?

    Hi folks!

I am wondering is there a way for connecting an external graphic card to this model since it doesn't have a Thunderbolt 3 port? Anybody has done it maybe?

I would like to start playing some new video games on this machine but original graphic card is not sufficient I'm afraid.

Hello, I'd like to ask if it's possible to disable the discrete graphics card using the BIOS?

No bios option to turn off the Intel or Nvida graphics. You can select just to use the Nvidia under the Nvidia control panel.

    Hi everyone!

I would like to ask for your help because I bought a 7559 a few days ago and I used a basically installed program Power Manager Lite in which you can set the maximum charge level in order to save the life of the battery. The driver version number was v11.5.2 as I remember. Since then I made a clean install and lost the System Recovery function so I installed manually the drivers. But now I can not find this driver anywhere on the internet.. Has anyone ever had this problem? From where can I download a usable Power Manager driver for my 7559? Thanks for your help in advance!

Power Manager Lite is listed as Dell Quickset Application on their US Support website. Your can find the download for Windows 10 64 bit here:

    http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/drivers/driversdetails?driverId=Y8DK9

This is my first post since joining so hope I got this right. Good Luck.
