for those of you who have the 1080p screen and a camera, could you take a picture of of the screen with differente applications? like surfing the web, the Windows Start button opened, Word, etc...
i would like to know if the 1080 on a 15,6" would be too small for me. Im hesitating between the 900p and 1080p!
thank you very much!!
-
Why not just buy 1080p! If text is too small, you can just set a lower resolution on your display!
-
Lower resolution than native makes your screen look blurry. Instead increase the DPI.
But that's not perfect either because not all applications scale well. -
Do you know a good Tv tuner that will fit in the 34 mm ExpressCard slot?
-
What about operating time on T6400 CPU? Or will be P8600 more longer?
I no need more power, I only using my notebook for internet/office work. -
I just tried running running Crysis 1280 x 720 everything on medium the games runs fine on this setting. Bumped up the lighting and also the texture to high and it still ran fine. Didnt run fraps as it always cuts down the frame rate, while playing it never noticed any slow down and it was very playable.
This was just the demo, but ive heard the full game is better optimized so that should run better. -
What do you mean by operating time?
FOr those uses you wouldn't notice any speed difference between those CPUs. Heck, even a P43 would do those without lag lol
.
-
Battery life.
-
Are you running it on Windows Vista 64bit with the non-Steam version? I have had alot of difficulty with the steam version.
-
It won't be noticeable either >.> A few minutes at best, but there isn't any significant difference between those 2 CPUs to warrant a significant increase/decrease in battery life
-
Actually the P8600 has a 25W TDP at load, compared to the T6400's 35W. It might mean a difference of half an hour. At lower multipliers/idle speed, though, it won't make much of a difference at all.
-
But T-series consume 35 Watt by Intel specs and P-series only 25 Watt.
Or it regard only to max load use? And by ordinary use both processor use Battery similar? -
There's more difference than a few minutes between a P8600 and T6400. One has 35 watt TDP, the other 25 watt.
Under heavy load the difference will be significant. Under low load it will be smaller.
I won't be surprised if it's more than 10% under load.
Edit: Oops did not see people had already answered.
Correct.
More similar but not the same. -
Owners, how long do 1555 with 6-cell Battery? (By office use)
-
NONE?? Who's no-so-bright idea was that? it's not like there isn't plenty of blank space for them....
-
Well normally if we're looking to stretch battery life we're not loading the CPU so I was assuming it was at low load >.>
He said "internet, word processing etc." that's not exactly "full load" now is it? -
Depends, watching Youtube HD with a spellcheck of a large document in the background will be 100% load
But even on lower loads, the P8600 will do better than T6400. Give or take 20 minutes. -
Downloaded this version from the crysis site, http://www.crysisdemo.com/ havnt tried the steam version though. Ill post up some screens from the game.
-
I'm not sure that's 100% either. I had a single core which could do that and I was still able to play WC3 in the background
(ok I admit, I shouldn't play games while doing homework >.>)
But ok I concede that there'll be a noticeable difference lol
-
And then there's also differences between individual CPUs. I mean one T6400 can stay 10 C cooler than the other and consume less power.
-
my dell has just arrived. will post images asap
-
man i envy you. Mine has just left China, still I cant complain I only ordered it Friday. Just hope it doesnt take too long, would love it for the weekend
-
mine is on it's 8th production day
-
Steam version sometimes permanently crashes on 64bit. I recommend not to buy that version as I believe retail contains a 64bit version.
-
Tried running the Crysis demo again and it wil only run in a window format it wont go fulscreen anymore which is wierd my try re installing it.
One thing i noticed the demo only appears to be in DX10 which is odd, guessing DX9 is only supported in the full version. -
Does studio 1555 have Stereo Mix? I am worried about it. I need it for recording my compositions in Guitar Pro. Any one enlighten me?
-
I ordered from kerala (via phone)... What about you?? I did'nt get any freebie other than that... but that guy taken away all the taxes from the price and i got the lappy in almost the same price listed in the site...
I asked for the backpack and said its really important for me.... -
They might not have found any point in making few LEDs lit all the way, each of which consuming about .25 to .5W just to know wheather wifi is on or wheather harddisc is running properly.....[just kidding]... But they would have surely included the 'Caps Lock' indicator....
-
is this blu-ray player compatible with the new studio? http://cgi.ebay.com/Dell-studio-xps...temQQimsxq20090531?IMSfp=TL090531123002r27304
Do you know other place to buy one?
Thanks -
Got a Dell 1555 here with following
CPU: T6400
RAM: DDR2 @ 800Mhz 4GB total
Video: Radeon HD 4570 w/ 256Mb
Monitor: 1080p
OS: Vista 64bit
Monitor panel model: AUO10ED (from device manager)
Video card is reported to have GDDR3 with bus width being 128Bit from GPU-Z v0.3.4
Monitor looks good to me but all I have to compare is an older inspiron 1720 (with 1440x900). Studio 1555 is much much brighter at maximum settings. I did not see any purple/blue hues as described by others. Again I wish I had an example shot of what that might look like.
Ordered end of April (when it first came out in Canada), received in late May. Almost a month between order and delivery. -
Another thing...what about removing the dvd and adding another HDD? Is it possible also for the Studio?
-
Questions:
I have Studio 1555 with Radeo HD 4570 w/ 256Mb.
Is this video card upgradable in the future? Like is it soldered to the board in Studio 1555? or is it in some kind of a slot/socket and can be swapped out when something better (and/or cheaper) comes out a year down the road? -
on the motherboard
-
It is soldered to the motherboard. The only way to replace it is to replace the motherboard itself. Even then, the only possible upgrade is the 512MB version of the same card.
-
Tested out the Grid demo it will run really well at 1280 x 720 that is on high just lowering the res to the one mentioned. Tried it at 1080p but it isnt playable well it is but the fps is to low to have any control over the car.
Overall im impressed by this card gives out great performance if your chossing between the two cards pick the 512mb one will be well worth it.
Someone mentioned if there was any distortion when loweing the res in games, well from what ive seen and played there isnt any i can see image looks crisp and clear. -
Max, Can you test some benchmark on your studio?, 3dmarks and test some games like crysis, cod4, UT3, thanks in advance.
greetings -
I hope they've got something for caps lock and num lock status...OSD or something. HDD activity...I REALLY prefer seeing it. There used to be a tray app for that, have to see if I can find it (and if it still works).
-
The best 3Dmark06 I can get is 3306 using the free version. I not into gaming so this doesn't matter to me. Just thought I would let everyone now.
System
P8600
4570 512MB
4GB Ram
1080P screen
5400rpm hard drive -
Strange, that's the lowest I've seen it. What settings are you using?
-
What setting are you talking about? I don't play games on PC so these setting mean nothing to me. If you could help get the setting right I could run the test again.
-
Thanks again. Yes, I was keen to know whether there were any blurring issues when downscaling games, so good to know the answer is no!
Probably worth swapping my 1366 res for a 1920 then - though how small is small in terms of normal text etc. Downscaling with normal office work is normally blurry and with DPI increases, not all applications scale well. So last question, is 1920 just too small for normal office work/browsing? -
Here my impression of the 1555 for people that are interested.
I am loving my new Studio 1555. The 1080p screen is amazing Crisp, Sharp, Ultra Bright. Images on the Internets look lifelike. Some color adjustment is needed for perfection. Text is not to small using the 120 DPI setting. And when surfing the Internets you can use the touch pad to zoom in and out instantly using two fingers. Text still is ultra sharp zoomed in and using the 120 DPI setting. It is quick at startup and at everything else. The backlit keyboard is very cool. The keys are kind of a soft touch, something I am not use to. They seem to feel sticky to the touch at times. I would prefer hard keys. It is way lighter than my old M170. Also the 9 cell battery gives the keyboard a prefect working angle. Also there is some heat concentrated at the touch pad. It doesn’t get hot just warm. Doesn’t get uncomfortable to me. But it is the warmest part of the keyboard. I am not a PC gamer I use PS3 and Wii for that. So I don’t have any PC based games to try out sorry. Also I have been running on the battery with full brightness for about three hours now. Have a 28 percent charge left. The top of the laptop is some kind of soft touch plastic like the keyboard keys. Doesn’t show finger prints easily. I have the Blue ray drive which works perfectly. Another cool thing about it is the fact it has a 16:9 display which makes connecting to HD televisions flawless using an HDMI cable. -

Thats sad... =( -
when your pickup order is picked up already.. they should delivery it fast.. we have paid Express Premium Shipping charges.. Be in contact with Dell and BlueDart and ask them to deliver it fast.. or ask for some compensation
-
I called dell now.. They said i will be getting it only by 17th.
May be since i am not near to any city like yours...
you are so lucky... -
From Chennai it is taken to Cochin by air. The hub for Kerala is in Cochin. From Cochin it is transported by road to different parts of the state.
Blue Dart messed up my delivery by safely stacking away my Dell S1555 in the Cochin hub. For 3 days it is left there. I had to pull some strings within blue dart and Dell to get it delivered at my place (Trivandrum).
Express Delivery surcharge which they are taking from us is a joke in India. When i asked for refund of the express delivery charges, i was told that it is not being shipped through that niche. When the laptop came, i could see a large red sticker on the cardboard surface stating EXPRESS.
So i would suggest you guys to start calling blue dart and dell. Dell officials (retail accounts head) helped me with the entire procedure. It took exactly 10 days (although i should have received it by 7 days). -
If you ran the default, then nvm, that is the score you are getting.
