Pickup date 10th and delivery is on 17th? It takes one day for the product to reach Cochin and another day to transport it to your place Kottayam. Man, start calling Dell and demand an explanation!! If they can deliver my product within one day from Cochin, they should be able to deliver yours within half a day. Kottayam and Cochin are like 150 kms apart, right?

Yes...! Thats what they said [ that it'll take till 17th], i called dell again now, they said they hav'ne recieved any tracking number for my product, they will recieve it only by tommorow & they could tell something about it only after they recieve it...
Also they said it is the maximum time and i can be getting before it...
Should i wait till tommorow, or is there any point in calling them and fight...??

I've seen two people getting around 4200. You might want to check out why your laptop seems to be under performing.

    Notebookjournal got 4.181,00

    Other results (with P8600):
    Aquamark 03 Punkte 89.749,00
    Futuremark 3DMark 2006 Punkte 4.181,00
World in Conflict (1024x768, niedrig) FPS 76,00
World in Conflict (1024x768, mittel) FPS 40,00
World in Conflict (1024x768, hoch) FPS 15,00
World in Conflict (1024x768, sehr hoch) FPS 8,00

What is this tracking number? Is that the waybill number? Just two numbers are required for you and Dell to track your product. Those are waybill number and reference number.

Dell relies on these two numbers too to track the product. I am wondering what is up with the delay. It just takes a maximum of one day for the product to be delivered anywhere in India. This has been told to me by Dell and Blue Dart themselves. The product will be delivered within one day to the nearest available airport (that is Nedumbasherry Airport, right?). Then it will be taken to the Blue Dart office in Kottyyam.

How did u purchase the laptop? Do u have the contact info of that sales representative? Frankly, I am unsure about the normal purchase procedures because for me, Dell Retail Account Head had taken care of everything. I just had to transfer the appropriate amount to her bank account..

I would suggest getting in touch with Blue Dart Chennai and demanding an explanation for the delay in delivery. Do not shout at them, please. Be courteous and sound anxious about the product ;).They have a CC number somewhere listed in the website (Edit: Found it for u, its 044 - 28241234 / 28271160 ). This is the main hub to which Dell transfers the laptop from the factory. It is from this hub, it is airlifted to Cochin hub. Ask about the present status of the product. Specifically where it is located right now. If it has reached Cochin, contact Cochin hub. All the required telephone numbers are listed in that website www.bluedart.com

    Early impressions of Studio 1555...
    - The laptop feels heavy for a 15" laptop
    - 9 cell battery is large but puts the keyboard at a nice angle
    - The charger is bigger than I was expecting
    - The 1080P LG screen is gorgeous and bright but it's not for everyone. If you have problems with small text then you might be better off with the 900P screen. Although you can increase the DPI of fonts in Windows not all applications scale very well.
    - Battery life is ok. You might be able to get 3 and half or even 4 hours with light usage and 9 cell battery. I have only had the laptop for a day though.
    - The F keys are by default configured as multimedia keys but you can change that behavior from the BIOS.
    - The keyboard backlight has two levels and you can turn it off as well
    - Speakers are alright for a laptop
    - For some reason the function key to enable/disable wireless also disables bluetooth. You can either have both on or both off.
    - The slot loading drive is noisy when loading a disk
    - The webcam is reasonable quality for built-in webcams
    - USB port on the right side is hard to use as it is very close to the optical drive slot and the power connector
    - The laptop only has one status LED, which is the white charging indicator LED. The charger connector has a nice glowing translucent blue ring.
    - Trackpad could be better. I would have liked it, if it was a lot more sensitive. I also hate the trackpad buttons. I just can't get used to them. My trackpad does get very slightly warm.
    - The exhaust fan is noticeable when it's running but thankfully it only comes on occasionally and when there isn't enough ventilation at the back
    - Windows startup is slow with all the crap software that is loaded by default in fact there is this black screen for a few seconds just before the login, where you feel as if the laptop isn't turned on
    - Face recognition works but you might have to move your head towards or further from the laptop for it to detect the face properly. The software is easy to setup. I will keep it enabled for a while.

The Intel WiFi drivers are pretty bad. My wireless router Linksys WRT54GL has a an option called Afterburner mode. I own 4 different wireless adapters and never had any problems with that option being on at the router but the Intel 5300 just kept failing at the authentication stage with no apparent errors. Today I say that Windows Vista event log had an entry with message "Security attempt status: Fail 0x0003800b". After trying all sorts of different settings I finally tried turning off the Afterburner option in the WRT54GL router (I use Tomato firmware) and now the laptop is finally connecting to the wireless router. I wasted many hours on this issue.

Sorry, I have only had the laptop for one day, so my estimate is probably incorrect. I will try to repost the correct time after I give it a couple of full charge/discharge cycles.

Thanks for your detailed reply, it helped... & thanks for the effort for finding me those numbers..
    Yes it is nedumbasherii (cochin)...
I got the waybill number from the bludart site.. But the person was saying Tracking number itself.. honestly i don't know what it is...
I'm planning to call my sales rep... He might find a way out..

For the 3dmark06 confusion, what resolution is everyone running at?
I expect the 4200 marks are running at 1280x720 if it was using the 1366x768 screen hence the higher mark.

Also for the person who had 3200 marks did they check they had the power settings set to high performance?

I thought 3dmark06 has a default resolution. Not sure what it is though.

It does have a default but only if your monitor can display it.
The default is 1280x1024. Any monitor that can display that resolution will use it.

Unfortunately monitors with 1280x800 or 1366x768 will use a lower resolution which can skew peoples results.

Therefore if someones score is a lot lower it could be using the default res as opposed to someone using a 1280x720 res.

That said I wouldnt expect the difference to be 1000 3dmark points, more like 400-600.
This is why I was wondering if maybe they had the laptop set to power saver

    Hi all,

Am seriously thinking of getting one of these, perhaps after potential 1 July for the Windows 7 upgrade option.

I understand the studio 1555 has an eSATA port. Is it possible to boot the laptop using an external hard drive via the eSATA port? i.e. Does the laptop BIOS allow external booting?

(I usually do this kind of thing, i.e. boot an separate OS off an external drive on desktops to test a piece of software before installing it permanently on my main installation, or to isolate seldomly-used bloatware --- but I'm not sure if I can do this on the 1555 laptop).

ALSO --- does any one have any personal preferences, or recommendations on the colours? :)

I'm thinking of the horizonte del infinito in red or blue, but I have a suspicion the website pictures don't faithfully reproduce the colours (my girlfriend's midnight blue inspiron looks much darker in real life) . Does anyone have any pictures?

(I actually bought a 1555 [720p] recently, then the 1080p screen became avaialble the night before arrival!!    --- I sent it back the next day without opening. That was a very sad day)

I tried out Dawn of War Soulstorm to see how it would run, it looks stunning in 1080p and that is with everything to high never noticed aany slow dowwn either. Though i reckon in large battles there will be going to install fraps though to get some results.
Im gonna say it again this 1080p is gorgeous.

See i told you, right? It is blue dart who is delaying the entire delivery process. Hope that you will be getting it within a day or two as mentioned. I would also recommend contacting the Cochin and Kotayyam offices too. Frequent calling will jog them from the slumber and speed up the process..

That is something worth pondering into. Last month mine was listed as flight delayed/canceled. Imagine my frustration when i came to know they transported by product all the way from Chennai to Cochin through road, because the flight got delayed/canceled. Adding to the owe was the fact that it was safely stacked away in the Cochin hub for three days.

Hope u get the laptop at the earliest ..

The same query was posted by me last month. Many flights ply in between the Indian cities yet BD resorts to send the product by road. Imagine the laptop being shoved up in a mini lorry and being hauled over kilometers..

Hopefully mine was in good condition when it arrived. I had made it very clear to Dell and BD that i will not sign the delivery receipt without checking the exteriors of the package for damage from road transportation.

Anyone here have like a scratching noise coming from the bottom left corner of the laptop, i installed the update for the hard drive which helped but it still makes a similar sound every so often. Also it gets fairly warm in that area to about the same or a little less than on the bottom were the touchpad is.

has anybody tried putting a 4GB SD )not Sdhc) card into the card reader? Mine is ok with small capacity cards, but when i put in the 4gb one in it, it does recognize it (although very slow), but wants to format it , and if you try to format it, windows refuses to do it. Put the latest drivers on, i have vista 64 bit and sp2.

Regarding the unavailability of 900p and 1080p in India, i talked to the sales guy who said that here only samsung produces the 720p screens and nobody produces high res screens. that's why we are left with only 720p option.

Here is a GPUZ screenshot from my Dell Studio 1555 with Radeon HD 4570, 256MB RAM. I am not really sure what to say about the memory type and size...
