The Dell provided driver can at least do a couple of gestures:
1) Pinch for zoom in/zoom out
2) Circular action for scroll

How can u use all of the above gestures ?? -
Laptop is arriving tomorrow which I am really pleased about after a week of hearing nothing. Trouble is no one is around to sign for it...damn it.
I am really curious as to what a 1555 1080p calibrated screen looks like compared to a Studio XPS 16 1080p. I was tempted by a XPS as I am a photographer but couldn't justify the price.
I am sure with tweaking I can get a decent colour balance etc for photos. -
You scroll down like normal then start swirling your finger
anyway
816 3DMarks
CPU Score 1760
what's wrong with this picture
hmm -
(don't merge this with the last post)
heh this is funny
Just restarted, shutdown any other programs, optimized the computer and got these scores
4182 3DMarks
CPU Score 2136
So I assume that's a good score?

Those do seem much more realistic for your particular hardware combination.

i have a friend who has a toshiba that has a synaptics touchpad and its really good. i even prefer using it to a mouse
-
depends, It is good for pictures nd stuff.. but most of the time it is annoying. like when browsing, touching the pad wit 2 fingers by mistake will zoom into the page. i have disabled mine after a weeks use.
-
So the new touchpad you can do two finger scrolling?
-
-
Damn, this makes me wish they had gone with the Synaptics touchpad for the 1535-1537 series. We got stuck with the cheap Alps pad, so we don't have any gestures except circular scrolling.
-
Has anyone seen or have any information on the new 'Edge to Edge' displays being offered on the 1555's? Its a $50 dollar upgrade, just curious if anyone has any comments on it.
-
How do you install the Synaptic driver? Uninstall dell driver??
-
Has anyone managed to get Catalyst 9.6 modded for vista 64 yet? I am still getting randon fps drops in DOW2 and hope this may help
-
I would try older drivers first. "Newer" drivers aren't always the solution, and quite often break stuff that worked in previous versions.
-
I have been using older drivers and have spent hours trying to resolve the problem. Looking at the patch notes for 9.6 they have improvements for COH which is basically the same engine.
My problem is that my fps drop from 30 to 15 fps for approx 2-5secs every couple of minutes.
I thought it might be heat related at first but surely if it was heat it would downclock for a while not just 2 secs
I have been running a gpu stress testing program (rtdribble I think its called) and this doesnt drop fps at all.
Also does anyone know what temp the GPU would downclock? Sorry but I am used to nvidia GPUs so dont know much about these mobilities -
sorry, double post
-
ninja2000, have you tried this?

Ahh thanks zeekr, will give that a go when I get home from work

Anyone having Blue Screen of Death with Dell 1555? Right after boot up and before and sometimes after login I get BSOD. Happened several times now.
Information to know. I had Dell replace the DVD Drive since the DVD drive did not work from the very beginning. And then the same Windows Vista downloaded SP2 and installed itself. Now I get frequent BSODs. Not good. Any inputs/ suggestions? P.S. I haven't had a change to capture the error message as of yet. Probably should do that. -

G'day folks, have just unboxed my new Studio 1555, very nice so far.
I've just reinstalled Vista to get rid of all the bloatware, and I have now reinstalled some basic drivers again (wireless card, display adapter, card reader etc), but seeing as I am going to put the windows7 RC on it, was there anypoint in reinstalling these drivers again? Have I, in fact, just waisted my time?
Will post some pics as soon as I can take them. -
looking forward to the pictures -
-
a clean install is usually more reliable than an in-place upgrade but you will have to install the drivers again if you do a clean install -
Cheers Gamez, I got ya.
Just burning the ISO file to a DVD now.
Now to trawl back through the thread and find the links to all the Win7 Drivers....Unless I can use the Dell Drivers CD? -

Someone received an LG monitor with product code LGD7001:
Have you got any information about it?
Is it a 720p or a 900p display?
I didn't find any news in google... -
Go build a Studio 15 on Dell's website... it has the 'Edge to Edge' option being offered. -
Boooo! My computer is here.... But I wasn't home for the delivery..... So now I need to wait until tomorrow afternoon to pick it up from the depot. Not too bad... 10 days... Can't wait to load it up and compare it with my Inspiron 6400 that it's replacing (under warranty)
-
i got into the same situation like u too, i wasnt home for delivery and that nite, i could not sleep lol

Hi
Just recently got my Studio 1555. Hooked it up to my tv with HDMI. I connected the sound via the mic and 2 headphone connections (changing devices to rear, centre/LFE and front speakers in ATI Catalyst) to my AMP's corresponding front, rear, centre/LFE inputs. (AMP has no HDMI inputs).
Now if I play a blu-ray which has explicit separate normal Dolby Digital or DTS sound, this works perfectly with 5.1 sound coming out of correct speakers as appropriate. However when I switch to Dolby TrueHD or DTS Master sound, there is an issue - it seems that sound is just being played through all speakers ie. not split. Eg. vocals that would normally come from just the centre speaker are now played from all front speakers creating an almost echo effect.
I was hoping PowerDVD would decode the HD sound and send lossless audio direct to AMP which doesn't have ability to decode this itself. Is this incorrect or am I just doing something wrong in the setup? (I must admit to being a little confused between what settings to use in Catalyst and in PowerDVD settings. I have PowerDVD 8.2.5408 ie. PowerDVD that came with the Studio + some updates from web).
Any advice appreciated! -

hi
I've got Windows Vista x86 installed on my dell 1555 and I want to change it into x64bit.
How should I do this?
anything to report dell? (I don't want to loose my warranty)
Can I use my Vista's dvd and cd-key from sticker on my laptop?
or any other way? -
Oh, and reinstalling an OS does not void your warranty. -
If it is supported, it's maybe a driver issue in your player.
Keep us posted -
Enuj is right; Dell should send you a 64-bit disk if you ask for one. It won't affect your warranty at all. And yes, your license key will work. Actually, you probably won't even have to use the key, since the Dell disk will read your license info right from your BIOS.

erm.... I just got my replacement... they sent me the wrong computer...... I have an Inspiron 1545..... what should I do?..... eff....

DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE (9f)
So I ran WINDBG to find out which driver was causing this..and I found this
A driver is causing an inconsistent power state.
Arguments:
Arg1: 00000004, The power transition timed out waiting to synchronize with the Pnp
subsystem.
Arg2: 00000258, Timeout in seconds.
Arg3: 00000000, The thread currently holding on to the Pnp lock.
Arg4: 00000000
and the probable driver being ntkrpamp.exe
Secondly, from time to time "Windows Task Manager", "Utorrent", "Bitcomet", system tray icons just do not respond.
Task Manager just sits on the system tray but window does not open?? ? system just decides to take a nap and I have to manually shut it down.
Latest casualty , speakers decide to give up on me but earphones are working. Either this system is crappy or I am obsolete.
A couple of questions here any fixes??? Please help.
PS: Running Vista 32 bit sp1.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Guys,
what about the 720p?
Still a crappy Samsung? -
Could someone who has the 1555 w/ the 4570 and Team Fortress 2 or CSS please test those games to see if they run on max?
I'm just curious to see if the HD4570 is indeed better than my HD3200.... -
Rickyit - yep, I managed to get my hands on a bog standard 1555 (I am having problems with my 1555's gfx card) The 1080p on mine looks stunning but the samsung screen has really poor unsaturated colours. Its the worse screen I have seen in a long time.
I could try and take side by side pics but my camera skills are poor!
DSPR02 - TF2 runs on highest settings @ 1080p resolution and gives about 25-30fps. I also ran it at 720p and got 50-70fps -
Oh epic! If I get stuck w/ a 1555 (and not an m1530 wishful thinking, I know Fragilexx) as a replacement for my 1536, at least I will be able to play TF2 a lot better than I can already!
Ninja, were you running it w/ AA & AF?
Anyone tried CoD 4 yet with this lappy? -
No, I didnt even try. at 1080p it looked so good there was no need.
I havent got COD4 to test but it does play crysis and DOW2 so I really doubt it would be any problem.
I had an xps m1530 and this performs on par for gaming and scores a little less in 3dmark06 -
I'm guessing COD4 at 720p on med settings would get decent FPS.

guyz, I hate my monitor.... otherwise computer performs excellent, what could be the issue? any help? I purchased it in italy... so it didn't come to dell , I have to fix it or live with it
