Alright... Here's a question for all of you....
So my order number got changed... My computer was delayed and whatnot, but the new order number was generated on the 30th of June, not the 16th of June. Would this make me eligible for the Windows 7 upgrade?
Basically my original order was delayed, so they created a new tracking number. It's strange really.
It's supposed to come on the 15th now.

Another Question on Dell's Win7 upgrade... I received my Invoice and The order date mentioned is 29th June. Does this make me eligible? (Order was placed on 24th June)
At the Win7 Upgrade registration site, I enter my Service Tag and validate but nothing happens, no response from the server. Any other options? -
Which resolution wallpaper among mentioned below do you think fits best for 720p screen (1366X768)..
* 1920 x 1200
* 1600 x 1200
* 1280 x 1024
* 1280 x 800
* 1024 x 768 -
Just take the 1600x1200 and crop and scale a section in Photoshop/Gimp, to make it 1366x768.
edit: or download 16:9 wallpapers at interfacelift.com -
Hi everyone, i'm a Studio 15 owner, and i've read i'm not the only one with a quite hot mousepad surface...
To me that's not a great problem, but i have a question:
Do you guys think that this heat can damage the monitor (considering it in a long period) if i always close it when the surface is hot??
Sorry for the BAD english -
As for the Windows 7 Upgrade. I'm not sure but if the order date is after the 26th of June, you should be able to get the upgrade. I looked at the Windows 7 registration, and you need the service tag. The service tag would be generated at the time the order was placed, so whatever date that is, if it's after the 26th, you should be good.... thoughts? I'm not positive... but that's what i'm thinking/hoping. -
Dell Dock is rubbish..this is much better and more easy to custumize. It has tons of features, skins, setttings..etc and its free.
-
-
for $25 more you get 1080p from 900p,
do you really need it ? or is it worth it? get 900p? or just leave it at 720p
anyone got any screen shots?
thanks -
check for screens in previous posts (not long ago)
-
I was just wondering how long it took from ordering a studio1555 to receiving it at the front door. I know alot of people said that dell's ESD is being really conservative.
-
erm..... once i get it..... a month.... haha... so.... expect delays
-
Btw, did you order anything special that might of added the required time? (ie, 1080p screen, etc.)
What are your specs? Yeah, i'm that bored waiting for a laptop...haha. -
Erm lets see.....
T6400 Processor
900P screen
9 Cell Battery
256 mb Vid Card
3gb Ram
250gb HD
Intel 5100 Wireless Card
DVD Burner
If it's one thing that is delaying my order.... take your pick... it could be anything really. My case is a bit messed up too, since it's a replacement under warantee for my old Inspiron 6400. Either way, it's going through the same process. My original order was for the 16th of June, with Delivery on the 1st of July. But since then, they told me something got screwed up or that there are parts they are waiting for so I got a new order number dated for the 30th of June with an expected arrival of the 15th of July.
I'm hoping that with the new order number, which was ordered the 30th of June, it will qualify me for the Windows 7 update..... -
Oh, I guess that's why it's taking longer for you.
Everything I ordered except for the 9 cell battery is different; so I guess that increases my luck? haha.
July 15th is like in a week, which is really good. Mine's supposed to come on teh 22nd. And since i'm not from US, i can't do the stupid status phone check; so all I get is "in production" from the website. -
I'm not from the states either.... I've heard that there are quite a few delays. So who knows what the delay was on my system... I just know it's been 3 weeks already...
-
Wait, are you from Canada? Hopefully, both our studio1555s will come soon without any defects!
But yeah, Dell has to seriously up their customer service/status website! -
Yea! Vancouver BC!
I really hope this computer comes without defects. My 6400 has been having BSODs for 2 years now. It's only now that Dell has decided to replace it. I can't really complain. But it's annoying to have to wait so long.
EDIT: GAH! I just got another delay. Arrival date is now the 22nd. Bah. -
Hi
Another question
What differences are between ATI Mobility RADEON HD 4570 with 256 vs 512 Mb version?
It will be differences with 512 mb in Counter Strike Source or it doesn't mater?
Regards -
Both will handle CS Source easily.
-
I found that configurations in Romania are pathetic ,
I mean either I can chose Core T4200 2.0GHz, 4GB, 320GB, video card with 512 Mb or T6400 2.0GHz, 4GB, 250GB , video card with 256 Mb
In my opinion is better to chose processor T6400 , lower HDD space , and 256 Mb video card
What do you suggest? -
I called the order status line and it said my order was "being processed" but online it says it's "in production"? Is this a bad sign, could it be a sign that my order is delayed? It's supposed to come on July 14th (I ordered another computer on the same day and it came July 2nd).
-
Its most likely a sign that the IVR status setup and online status setup aren't in sync.
Nobody here can offer anything but guesses and conjecture. If you want to know the status of your system call Dell and talk to a person. -

Hi guys,
The wait is finally over for me... Free upgrade to Windows 7 is now available which means I can ACTUALLY buy MY OWN 1555 after months of reading forum threads....
I've decided that the 1600x900 version is the ONE but apart from them being temporarily available from Dell(US), and a few refurbished ones in AUS, I haven't seen one available yet here in the UK?
I did seriously consider going for the 1080p version but decided that it's going to be too much on a 15.6". Dpi scaling seems to be a bit of a hit/miss based on my research depending on the programs/softwares you use. I'll using my lappie for 3 years for a Uni course and would rather not ruin my eyesights by the end of it! (Unless I sit right upclose which means I'd miss pretty girls walking pass me
On the other hand, everything on the 1366x768 looks so big!
Any idea when the 1600x900 will be available or where I could get hold of one pls? -
I know people with the 1080p screen said that you can downsize the resolution; but it doesn't work the other one around (720p cannot change to a reso for like 1080p).
I'm assuming that the 1600x900 is the 900p one? I read the majority of the numerous pages on this thread, and I don't think the 900p has ever been offered in Europe (if i'm not mistaken).
So if you have the cash, then get the 1080p one and change the reso down, or you can just save some money and use the 720p one. If you're using it for university, just telling you that there has been delays in North America and the wait is like 3-4 weeks, so don't play the waiting game TOO long. =) -
Hmmm. People say that if you use anything other than the native resolution, everything would look kind of blurry, can't you verify this on yours pls?
Money is not an issue, fortunately, the price difference between a 720p and a 1080p isn't too big. -
-
Which should have been the 15th of July..... On my initial order it was the 1st of July..... So something is messed up.
I remember i got my 6400 for university. I ordered in August and it came within 2 weeks. Which Uni are you at? U of T?
It's just frustrating having to wait. But like I said before, because my order number got changed and generated on the 30th of June, instead of the 16th of June, I think it could make my computer eligible for the Windows7 Upgrade. -
What does it say on your order date? Because I think that date is what bases your eligibility for Windows 7. -
I can't get my head round this
Can somebody explain to me...
The old 1537 has a 15.4" screen size and 1920x1200 res
The new 1555 has a 15.6" screen size and 1920x1080 res
So horizontally the new one is longer but with the same number of pixels? and how much shorter in height is the new one? 1/10th? Otherwise, are the actual size of pixels on the 1555 BIGGER?
Where's my maths teacher when I need him?
p.s. One more thing, I know 16:9 is the trend but technically speaking, isn't the 'lost' of 120 vertical pixels a disadvantage rather than an advantage? -
The screen size... well in my opinion... it sucks with the new 16:9.... but what can you do. The market is changing so we will just have to adapt. I'm sure you will get used to it after a while. I mean we got used to widescreens??? haha
Junctioned: Rez is awesome. I live in rez out at UBC. Anyways. My order date is the 30th of June. So I should qualify.
My original order (which my dell rep said was now cancelled) was on the 16th of June with an expected arrival of July 1st.
I'm hoping to qualify for the Windows 7 Upgrade. It will make it worth the wait I hope..... -
Yeah, then I think you definitely are eligible for the windows 7 upgrade.
I'm not too keen on the widescreen format of the new studio15, hopefully, it won't be too bad. Will everything be stretched (like on non-HDTV with a widescreen tv?) -
If you purchased or planning on purchasing the Dell Studio 15, please help me decide what is best for my needs here http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=397170
Thanks in advance and ANY suggestions are appreciated. -
Hey all,
I just built a Studio 15 using a discount code and the following specs:
Processor: P8600 2.4ghz
OS & Software: Vista Home Premium with Upgrade & Office Student version
Warranty: 1-year mail in service
Screen: 15.6” 900p LED
RAM: 4gig DDR2
HDD: 250gig 7200 RPM
Video Card: ATI HD4570 512mb
Disc: 8x DVD burner
Wireless: Intel 5300
Battery: 9-cell
A couple of core questions: Is the GPU sufficient for medium settings on demanding games?
Is the sound on this system good? My wife hates our old dell laptop with speakers on the front edge and we need good sound. NBR's review of the 1555 sounded like their unit had defective speakers....
Are the studio 15's holding up to being dragged around alot?
Any feedback helpful. Looks like alot of laptop for the price, but I'm afraid of the build quality being low and the sound being sub-par.
Joe -
Ugh.... Anyone who wants good sound from a laptop... is dreaming.... I dont think these speakers will be bad... but you can't expect good sound from any laptop. You need external speakers for that or some good cans. Also... don't watch the stupid reviews on youtube, saying the speakers are great. a) they don't have a good enough camera to even distinguish the sound quality and b) they only rate them on how loud they get which is just stupid.
I think the GPU is fine even at the 256mb card. Don't quote me on that, but I hear that the difference between the two is minimal.
Isn't it cheaper to buy Office from somewhere else instead of getting it from Dell?
Overall I think your system looks fine. The biggest upgrade is the Screen. the 900 or 1080p screens are the way to go. -
The 4570, especially the 512MB version, should handle most games on Medium. What specifically are you looking to play?
The sound system is significantly better than the old Studio 15's; this model has a subwoofer built in. Not too powerful, but still pretty good for integrated laptop speakers.
Build quality is decent. Not the tank-like toughness of a Thinkpad, but it's a laptop; it's made to be carried around. I've been carrying my previous generation Studio 15 around to class almost every day and it's been fine. Just get a nice cushiony laptop backpack and you'll be just fine. -
Hey gents,
Sorry I wasn't clear on a few things.
Speakers - I'm not an audiophile, all i care about is a decent volume (in a quiet room) and clarity. Maybe a bit of seperation. The NBR review of the 1555 said the speakers were absolutely abyssmal....iirc, they said an editor down the hall thought they were running an electric sander because it just sounded like buzziness. I just wanted to make sure that was an aberration
On the GPU, I saw one test showing a pretty substantial difference (PCMark 06) between the two GPUs (not in the same system though). I'll stick with the more powerful one, though I'm not sure it's worth 11% more system price.
Yes, I'm going to get office elsewhere. I included it in my build for some reason, oops. Office Ultimate is being sold for like $70 to those with an .edu e-mail...
I'll be going with the 900 screen.
I don't know exactly which games I'm going to play....WoW, Neverwinter Nights 2, maybe Diablo 3 when that comes out....I just want a laptop that will play todays demanding games at a medium setting, so I know it'll be able to handle a good amount of games in a few years as well (albeit on lower settings).
Good to hear the build quality is decent. I'm typing this on a 14" latitude d620 and I also own a inspiron 8600 (4 1/2 years old). The latitude is from work and a few years old and feels moderately solid. The inspiron feels alot less solid, but has been dead reliable for the entire time. If the studio feels like the latitude, I'll be happy.
Joe -
it wont feel like the latitude. Latitudes have the magnesium casing and all... very nice bodies. The studios will be about the same, if not a bit better than the inspirons.
As for speakers.... if it's in a room, I highly recommend even a cheap set (30 or $40) speakers. You won't be dissapointed with that. -
Hey guys, I was looking around youtube unboxing videos, and I happened to catch one of the guys who have a 720p screen. He said it's pretty decent unless one decides to watch blueray movies and stuff. Just thought I would let everyone know as there was some intense 720 vs 1080p debates!
-
You really can't judge a display's quality from a YouTube video.
-
I know his opinion might be subjective; but at least that's another positive feedback about the 720p screens compared to the ones left here a few weeks back (saying it was grainy and stuff) -
In all honesty... the 720p screen can't be worse (or much worse) that the average screen you see at your local electronics store. Most screens are just average.
Youtube reviews serve more as comedy than information. Half of the people don't know what the specs of their own computer are. It's silly. -
yeah, i know. But it's pretty jokes seeing them all try to open their boxes/pulling laptops out with one hand...haha.
btw, does dell ship the accessories i ordered at the same time as my laptop? Cause i ordered a mouse too, but the ESD is 07/14 for the mouse. -
this 1080p screen is right up there with sony x-black on FW series. not quite but very near. glad I chose it
-
How big of a difference is the T6600 (2.2) VS. P8600 (2.4)? Will it just be a little bit faster or will battery life be better too?
I'm debating if I should upgrade the processor to the P8600 or upgrade the HDD to 500 GB. This will be go w/ a the 4500HD, 900p screen, 4GB of RAM. I could also upgrade the video card to ATI 256 but i dont play games and want great battery life.
I'm going for speed and great battery performance -
Stupid and purely aesthetic question, but what exactly does the Black Chainlink look like? Is flat black or is the pattern really noticeable.
-
P series is a bit more energy efficient and thus uses up less power. Its also slightly faster with a bit more cache.
P8600 2.40 GHz 1066 MHz 3 MB cache
T6600 2.20 GHz 800 MHz 2 MB cache -
