Ah, did not know about the glossy finish. Not a big fan of those. Looks like it will be either midnight Blue or ruby Red for me.
Thanks for the help. -
-
I will have the Chainlink Black as well. Didn't think the cost was worth it. Also didn't know it was glossy.
From day one on my Inspiron 6400, i've had an awesome Black leatherette cover so I never saw the ugly silver. It was a sweet add-on I got for free from Dell. I'm going to miss the sweet look and feel of it. Oh well. -
Does Dell not offer Black Jet matte finish? In the uk we have Jet Black with mate finish and no Chainlink. This matte is really nice, fingerprint friendly -

Not too much different.... 5300 is a faster card if you have the proper hardware -
well i think im still sticking w/ the blackchain not that big of a deal to me.
What is everyone's thoughts on getting an extended warranty on this dell model. Kind of dumb that their warranty doesnt include the battery (thats extra). In my configurations I went w/ a 2 yr standard warranty which worked since I need to get to 1149 before the 25 percent off discount.
For those folks who have purchased the laptop what did u get? -
-
I got a 3y warranty...just in case.
update: the reason I got a 3y warranty is simple. I can easily put in another 4gb of memory, a better cpu and a ssd and with a 1080p screen it will be good for another couple of years. -
P.S. Dell's customer service/warranty is renounced to be horrible; just to keep that in mind. -
I love my old lid. Too bad it wont fit on the new computer. Had a great texture to it and made the computer look SO much better than the ugly silver.
As for the warranty.... It's hard to say. I had a 3 year complete care warranty on my 6400, which suffered from the BSOD for 2 years now. Now with a few months left, Dell decided to replace my system. So at the end of 3 years, I end up with a brand new computer.... I can't really complain much other than the fact i'm waiting a long time for it to come... -

i have a Dell 9200 laptop and it ran well for 3 good yrs then i had some sort of hardware malfunction that im still dealing w/.
-
My recommendation... Don't get next business day. I never got them to come to my house once. They always just told me to send my computer back to the depot. Save a bit of money doing that.
Complete care is a nice thing to have, but in reality, I'm not sure you need it. As long as you are careful with your stuff, which most people are, your laptop should be fine. -
I got two Studio 1555 in yesterday. I opened one of them and it had an AUO20EC display. It looked quite good to me.
I found out Notebookjournal has reviewed one, it's better than the Samsung.
AUO20EC
durchschnittl. Luminanz cd/m² 228,10
Schwarzwert bei 100 cd/m2 cd/m² 0,48
Schwarzwert bei maximaler Helligkeit cd/m² 1,16

Kontrast bei maximaler Helligkeit :1 196,63
Samsung SEC5441

I took some pictures of the AUO screen but they did not come out very well. Here they are.
I don't have the link at hand but let me know if someone wants it. -
Yeah, so I just checked my status on dell, and it looks like the don't bunch all the things together for delivery. The mouse I ordered just changed status to shipped; wouldn't dell be wasting alot of shipping fees?
Realized that comment was sort of off topic; so back to studio1555. I noticed that all the function keys are now on the keyboard. When accessing the F1-12 keys, do users have to hold onto the Fn key? Is there a way to change it if not? -
You can change the F1-F12 key functions in BIOS. Either hold Fn to use them as F-keys, or hold Fn to use them as media controls.

Can someone that has the Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi MB software tell me what is that for??
What this software REALLY do??
Is it useful?? -

Yea, I just received my studio1555 today, and the matte finish black version is excellent. Delighted that it's not glossy.
And that 1080p screen!!
Very happy with the purchase till now, no apparent defects as well. But couldn't test everything I wanted. (I'm at work right now)
I'm thinking of formatting and installing Windows 7 RC today. -

If i kwen that one week ago... -
If I buy a laptop it will be 13" and less than 2kg -
-
-
You can go for a Studio XPS 13, but it's 2.2 kg -
Just a quick question; upon getting the laptop, how many hours do we have to charge it, and is it advised to have the laptop on while charging?
-
I dont think it really matters... I think you can just use it, but keep it plugged in for a few hours. The best way to safe your battery (at least what i've found) is to charge it up, then take the battery out while the computer is plugged in. For some reason that seems to make batteries last longer.
I told my sister to do that with her D810 and the battery still lasts about 2 hours on a 4 year old laptop. you can't complain with that.
I did it for the first year I had my laptop, but then got too lazy. Now after 3 years it only last about 45 min. (Both 9 cell batteries) -
The manual I saw said charge it the first time at least for 12 hours.
-
Alright I'm looking at this setup right now:
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T9550 (2.66GHz/1066Mhz FSB/6MB cache)
15.6” Full High Definition (1080p) High Brightness LED Display
6GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 800MHz
250GB SATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) with Free Fall Sensor
256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570
8X Slot Load Super Multi (DL DVD+/-R Drive + RAM support)
Intel 5300 Ultimate-N Half Mini Card (3x3) with MyWiFi
Will the 6 cell be sufficient enough to haul this around campus for 4-5 hours, or should I opt for the 9 cell? -
you will need the 9 cell to get 4-5 hours.
A P-series processor (P8600) will get pretty much the same performance, but get you less heat and longer battery life.
6GB RAM = OVERKILL! -
But thanks, I've been going going back and forth on the proc. -
I agree with TexasEx7, P8600 with 4GB is more than enough for most people.
You'll notice more from an SSD than a faster CPU. -
do they have option for SSD or would you have to buy it separately yourself?
-
Looks like the 25% off the studio 15 has expired as someone else mentioned. It still works in their new configuration but forces to have the ATI 256 video which i have no interest in. Plus its a little bit more expensive. I bet I could still e-mail my sales rep and place the order -
By the way for those of you worryed about the blackchain design I went to Bestbuy today to check out the studio 1555 and the blackchain design looks nice. You really have to look closely to see the chain design. From afar it looks shiny black.
-
I just got my 1555 this afternoon as a replacement for my 1535...I gotta say, I'm happy so far. The 16:9 ratio will take some getting used to (so much craning my neck side to side!
), but it's a solid machine.

Go with the CPU upgrade. It's a heck of a lot simpler to swap out the hard drive on your own than the CPU. Plus you can put the old hard drive in an external enclosure and use it for backups. If you swap out the CPU I suppose you could make a cool key fob? -

Hi,
I just got my 1555 yesterday and I have to say that so far everything is pretty sweet. I got the 720p monitor and so far it's pretty decent. The only issue I have with the laptop is that there are no LED's for Capslock, HDD, Power, ect. Has anyone else found this really annoying? Anyone know of any programs that can simulate these? Like a program that goes into the taskbar something?
Thanks -
Cave Man- What are the other specs of your computer?
When did you order and receive? -
Hi
What operationg system do you recomand between Windows Xp 32 bit

I ordered the laptop on June 29th and got it yesterday on the 9th. The original received date that they listed was on the 20th of july.
