What I do is basically put a cloth on the keyboard before I close it. Downside to that is you have to carry a cloth around heh. But it helps when you open the screen with the cloth so that you don't leave smudges on the screen while opening it lol.

wow!! this is my second day owning my dell 1555 and I absolutely love it. The 900p screen is delicious and makes apps like tweetdeck look amazing... this blows away my last laptop. I havent found a single thing i dont like about this laptop yet. I hated my acer because everytime i would type on it, i would acciddentally barely touch the touch pad and it would move my cursor and id be typing in random places. this hasnt done that yet...

I was sleptical about this because i have heard good and bad things about dell but i am a dell fanboy now, this laptop is blowing my mind.
the touch pad does get a little warm however its not enough to bother me and for those who didnt like the sound, id like to hear the laptop they heard that sounded better becasuse this thing sounds amazing, and its loud enough to hear no problem, and i always prefer quality sound over higher volume and this great sounding, I also have the x-fi sound blaster notebook sound card my dad gave me from when he bought his studuo..

my windows experience index is as follows:
    processor-5.0
    ram-5.2
    graphics- 5.0
    gaming graphics-5.3
    hard disk-5.5

which beats my old laptop in every catagory to make it a true upgrade. Im so glad my work chose the studio 1555 as a base model for us to customize and get a rediculous deal.. for my setup(at the bottom of the screen) i paid 540$ and there just take like 15 bucks out of my check til its paid off, no interest.. awesome

This has been a great thread to read and really helped me make my purchase.

Now I am in the hardest part of the whole process... waiting! Mine got to New Zealand so quick but now is stuck in the courier depot.

Hello everyone. I'm new to this forum, and I just wanted to say that I can't wait to get my hands on my new laptop. The setup I'm going with is 1080p LCD, 4GB of RAM, 500GB SATA HDD, Blu-ray drive and 512MB ATI 4570.

I've read through some post saying that the backlit keyboard is not a standard feature, but has to be specified. When customized the PC in my order, I did not see any option to acutally include the backlit keyboard. The case may be, that Dell Norway does not provide the backlit keyboard.

If that is so, how can I get a backlit keyboard with Norwegian layout? (there are some minor differences)

Glad you're enjoying the new machine :D I was just curious as to why your Ram rating is 5.2 with 6GB, I'm at 4GB and I have 5.9

I would suggest eBay first. A Norwegian layout may not exist though..

I have checked with ebay, and found the keyboard, but without Norwegian layout. That said, the difference isn't that big, just a few keys are positioned different from the US/UK-layout.

Never did see the backlit keyboard option either, I don't think it exists with Norwegian layout.

Is anyone else having problems registering for the windows 7 upgrade? Sent a mail to support just now and I guess they'll put me in the database manually.

    Hello,

I'd like to know which other resolutions besides the 1920x1080 are available on the studio with the 1080p screen :)

Because we here in Europe don't have a 900p option  ! And the 720p resolution is too low for me and the 1080p probably too high...

Increase your DPI in Windows from 96 to 120. That will make everything larger without lowering your resolution.

Install Dell Quickset. There is a 64bit version on Dell's site for Windows 7 or the Vista one works for 32bit.

You may need to reboot your PC. When you press an F key for the likes of volume or brightness an on screen indiator should show up.

So I just got my new Studio 15! Exciting stuff. I am looking at the dell support page for drivers, and am I little flustered. Can I assume everything is up-to-date (it was ordered August 17, received September 1)? Is it harmful to download and install the drivers if I am not sure?

    Thanks in advance.

The majority of drivers will most likely be up to date but you won't do any harm by downloading and installing the latest of the site to be sure. Its safe enough to do this.

The Studio 1555 uses DDR2 memory, PC2-6400 800MHz to be precise.

I wouldn't trust the Windows Experience score to do anything right. I've run that test on two identical machines with the same hardware and drivers, and it spat out two different numbers.
It may have something to do with your connection. YouTube loads just fine on mine.

    Hi All,

I am new. I have been reading through this thread and have learned a great deal about this laptop that I ordered. I am very excited for it to arrive (should be here tomorrow :D ). I just have one question that I cannot seem to see the answer to: Does the dell 313-7353 6x blu ray combo drive, burn dvds and cd's? I would think it would, but I cannot seem to find anything that states that it does to that affect. Any info/comfirmation someone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for all of your help!

Edit: Nevermind, I just looked at the side by side comparison on the Help-Me-Choose subsection for the studio 1555 customize and noticed it states that the combo drive does everything except burn blu-rays, which is fine. Sorry for the dumb question and thanks for this awesome thread!

Hi guys! I received my new Studio 1555 early this morning and I have two questions for you folks.

First, how does one find out what sort of hard drive is in their system? I remember reading somewhere on this board that Dell uses various brands and models of hard drives. Or... I guess I could be mistaken. I'm just curious, is all. Thanks a bunch!

Second - Am I the only one who keeps the plastic stickers like around the keyboard and monitor on as long as possible? ;)

You can see what model number the Device Manager spits out, or you can pop off the bottom panel of the notebook and look at the label. Odds are it's either a Western Digital Scorpio Blue (5,400 RPM) or Scorpio Black (7,200 RPM), or a Seagate Momentus 5400 or 7200.

As for the stickers...it's not common, but you're not the only one. My mom's boyfriend leaves those on his stuff for years...his HDTV, stereo equipment, laptop...everything! :p

I just got my Studio 1555 now and it is amazing! The keyboard, touchpad, everything is much better than what I imagined. The 1080p screen is so wonderful and makes my desktop's 1280x1024 monitor look crap. :D

I might be overreacting a bit because this is my first laptop but it really is better than some other laptops I've used. I will post some more specs soon.

There's only one thing wrong: Vista! I'm still waiting for ImgBurn to finish...

Congrats on your new laptop. I highly recommend putting on Windows 7 and running with that instead of Vista. Makes it a much batter experience imho. Not sure what this has to do with ImgBurn performance though.

After having a look at some of the Windows Index scores on here I decided to run mine and post the results for comparison. I don't think you can put too much reliance on Windows Index though as the results do seem to change a fair bit between people's PCs.

    My spec is:

    Dell Studio 1555 | Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.4GHz) | 4 GB DDR2 SDRAM 800MHz | 320 GB HDD (7200 RPM) | 512 MB ATI Radeon 4570 | Intel WiFi Link 5100 | 1080p LED Screen | 9 Cell Primary Battery | Windows 7 RTM 64Bit

I haven"t installed windows 7 yet.. I was running it in a dual boot partition on my Acer but just RC. Im probably just gonna wait til the official windows 7 comes out in a few months. Im running windows vista sp2 64bit.

and maybe im crazy but I coulda swore the Windows index only went to 5.9 in vista 64bit... does it go higher in windows 7? I literally havent picked up my old laptop since getting this dell.

Im gonna run the windows index when I get to windows 7 and that might change my numbers.

I've got it running now but how can I get the Catalyst Control Center to adjust the graphics card settings? I can't seem to find the download?

so maybe thats why my score is a 5.2 and there score is 5.9 and ive got 6gb ram and they four.
I just gonna assume they were running windows 7 because vista only goes to 5.9 and win7 goes to 7.9.
so there getting 5.9/7.9 and im getting 5.2/5.9
and with some simple math I can estimate my future score for ram in windows 7.

which is...... 6.96/7.9 (or 7.0 if they round up which is more like it) and had they been using vista there 5.9 score would be 4.4/5.9...

anyway enough showing off my wonderful 2nd grade math skills..

Im happy with the performance and it runs great so whatever the index is im cool with it.

PS whats everyones avergae boot up times? mine does take a bit longer to boot up with the dell than my acer aspire (32 bit vista tho)
