there must have been some reason why they let out word that the update would be on the 15th and then change it. Maybe a technical hitch or too much stock?

If it is a stock issue, I have to wonder how Dell managed to have enough parts for several months? I can't believe they would put in new orders for parts instead of launching a new model?

hm, they just removed the xps m1530 from the "incredible XPS savings" page on the dell uk website. Now there are only 3 instead of the usual 4 XPS savings systems. Maybe they're finally running out of stock?

Jayson do you know why would DELL choose to delay for another two months?

If this is true it is close to ridiculous!!!

Unless I am mistaken, this would mean that, during the Christmas holiday season, DELL will be the only major company offering a "high-endish" machine based on the 8xxx GPU. Now that is not looking AT ALL good for DELL...
If the delay is true I do not know if I should take the Precision or look at another manufacturer alltogether...

Right. They're shooting themselves in the foot.

However, like we've said before, Dell's still "surviving" by selling previous gen crap for a premium price. I would say at least 50-60% of consumers really don't know the difference, and some could even care less.

Whether or not it's a good decision for Dell, who knows/cares. If they have chosen to dig their own graves and lie in em, that's their choice. As a consumer, its your responsibility to get what you're looking for. If a company doesn't offer it, go elsewhere, and don't get hung up on corporate loyalty. That was one of my mistakes when I started buying Dell. I kept wanting them to be good, but they always let me down, and the best way to tell them something needs to be fixed is to shop elsewhere.

I was going to wait for the studio xps to be released, and peer reviewed by those who first purchased it before making my decision, but now that it's been delayed further, all I'll probably get to do is look at the tech spec sheet, but I'm sure I'll have already purchased another brand of laptop by then.

With an estimated release date of December now, and probably waiting a month for them to get an order to me, it won't fit in my time schedule anymore.

If they don't come out until January then they are going to be in a world of hurt. Missing the holiday buying period would be devastating.

Again, thanks for sharing your information Jayson. :)

Bad news though. :( I was set on ordering a new 13 inch XPS if price wasn't too high. Now I'll just order another notebook by Monday then it seems if Dell really won't update their 13 inch XPS by then. And by update, I don't mean the new design, but just a motherboard / CPU / GPU update.

By the way: any chance you could share the other slides from the roadmap as well, Jayson? Any other tidbits on there that you didn't mention yet?

Any bigger images of the Studio XPS'? Quite often I've seen people resize big images to make them fit the page in PowerPoint. Easy to check this by accessing the properties of the image.

Slide to me just looks like a photoshopped slide to convince people to buy the current XPS that way stock can be cleared quicker. Doubt it will work. Any remotely smart person would simply buy a different laptop rather than the current XPS until the new one comes out.

lol dudes, don't believe in this fake-roademap, i could manipulate this roadmap as well and write "till MAY 2013" on it! Jason is just playing a joke on those guy who always get hysteric :D

watch the sings of DELL's price policy, all those discounts on the xps-laptops, especially the 48-hour super-low discount two days ago! all the xps-notebooks are only available with blue-ray and 500gb harddisks (DELL Austria and DELL Germany)! they want to sell all of the crap out because something hot is coming!

just wait till end of the week, and enjoy the new XPS ;)

The only option that has been removed from the XPS 1530 options list for Dell Sweden is the graphics card. Everything else if full of options. Parts such as the hard drive isn't model specific. The drives put in the XPS series could just as easily be put in a Vostro, Latitude or Studio.

Chang, most companies are running Centrino 2, anything that says Centrino or Centrino 2 won't be using the new NVIDIA chipset.

Unless, God forbid, some crazy nut makes a laptop than uses two different MOBOs and has "switchable" mobos. >_>

If you just mean GPU, then I'd say a lot of vendors are using either NVIDIA or ATI GPUs.

    Chipset != GPU

yeah, like TemjinZero said, most are using Centrino or Centrino 2. New XPS#s should come with centrino 2. But if you meant you're hoping for a nVidia GPU, then I'm rather hoping for the new ATi 4850, or 4650, since the desktop counterparts are doing, very well against nVidia. And also, the 4850 (or was it 4870?) has popped up in a MSI 17" gaming notebook.

i can't believe Dell is doing this to us. i've been a customer of Dells ever since i bought their 1st gen xps monster of a laptop almost five years ago and i need an update! i've been waiting for these new xps machines ever since Jayson first posted. first it was "they'll probably come out in Nov", and now they won't be out until after the holidays. if you can here this Dell, i'm sorry but no matter how much i want a good xps, i don't think that i can wait that long. any recommendations on a new laptop that can do a lot of gaming, but not a behemoth 17 incher? been looking at a Sony Vaio FW, any thoughts?

Some peopel were attacking Jayson about Hybrid SLI not using both chips. This is correct but nvidia is planning to have that feature work soon according to the websites above.

"The hardware is capable of switching between integrated and discrete on the fly and it’s available today on the Window platform. It is not there today with Apple, but in some of our upcoming designs and in our hybrid SLI designs you can have both chips work together. One may not be the same power as the other but we can manage the SLI so it gives you a net boost, what we call a GeForce boost. That isn’t here now but that may be coming in the future."

Hehe, i had to chime in about this. If you've been waiting for the new XPSs to come out for 3 months, why not wait a little longer? The slides might change and they would come out soon. Or not.

+rep for you Jayson. I was a bit too harsh on you at the start but I've seen the error of my ways.
But that doesn't mean i completely trust you now. :p

@tential, there is no support for Hybrid SLI from Vista or Windows 7.

Me..I'm just going to be patient and wait.

The *ball* per se is not in any of our homefields...That Home Run were waiting on, belongs to Dell. :)

Dell is the one controlling things, and if you give into the hysteria and hype combined..your just feeding into a *Wag The Dog* type of theory. ;)

It's been great that Jayson has kept us all updated on the latest and greatest, though :D

Just to make sure I am reading this right (a thread gets blurred after a thousand posts), the Studio XPS will not be available by December?
I am hitting the States at the end of the month and I would like to take back a new Laptop with me. The latest it can be delivered would be the 10th of December. I would really like to stay with Dell and their new LED interests me a lot.

    Its not true.

Dell would not release a laptop in January when people are broke and sales will be full in effect especially during a time when savings are more valuable to people than a new laptop.

At the latest I say February however, I still think Dec at the latest because its business suicide for Dell.

So, January? Eh, looks like a very risky move by Dell to me.

Although the average end-user won't know the difference then say, a dv5t and a Dell m1530. Then wouldn't know the T9500 and T9400 were a generation apart. They wouldn't notice the difference between DDR2 800 and 667. They won't tell the difference between Centrino 2 and Intel Core 2 Duo.

Now, NBR are not the average end-user, but the majority of the market are. So, Dell aren't completely screwed if they launch the Studio XPS in Jan.

well, if everyone purchases current notebooks now, yes, Dell makes money, but then there wouldn't be people to buy their new range because they've spent all the $$$ elsewhere. That would be negative...

I was able to fit 14 VGA connectors side by side on that Studio XPS. That is the same amount as the M1330 so it's quite likely that the new one would also be a 13.3" model, unless they remove a lot of the bezel around the screen on a 14" model.
