Argh... those dell bastards.... mine's still in build stage while others who ordered on the same date already have theirs shipped. Did all of you who got theirs shipped already get the t7100 and below? I saw a thread here claiming the t7300 is backordered.

I've noticed that nobody here seems interested the the basic 1000 model. Personally, I only need basic operations like web surfing, etc. The 1000 is offered for $500 in a configuration with a AMD tk-53 processor, 1GB, integrated ATI 1150 graphics and DVD-RW. It is offered with either XP or Vista Basic (as is the 1500, by the way, on the web page I'm looking at.) My question is will this configuration run Vista satisfactorily including the Aero interface? I'm willing the try Vista, but not if it will be slower with this rather basic configuration, because I don't want to spend an extra 100 or more just to do Vista. Any other comments on this configuration? It seems to be a reasonable upgrade from the very sparce $450 version. 80 GB HDD is OK.

This forum as a whole is totally unorganized. Everybody is starting separate threads for reviews, pics, probs , etc.

So... I ordered my Vostro 1500 on the 20th of July. It went into build for a week or so, and now it's in the kitting stage. Can anyone tell me what the heck the 'kitting' stage is?

Anyone noticed that they've dropped the price on the 8600M GT video card from $169 to $100 just recently. I guess that after they realized it was wrong to advertise it as a DD3R card (actually a DDR2), that it was wrong to overcharge for it as well. I guess it's time to get on the phone and get my refund...and if not I'll return and reorder.

mine 1500 just arrived, and here are some thought:

    0) the packing box is so small not like all my past dells...
    1) the laptop is surely above average/good built for $847
    2) comes with the XP OS disc and driver disc (ordered the XP Vostro)
    3) and I just checked both discs, the driver disc does have all the necessary drivers for you to do a clean XP reinstallation (even the BT driver is there, which is still not posted on dell.com). And the XP OS disc comes with the SATA driver slipstreamed, should install okay no need to do the nlite fix or change the BIOS.
    4) dell really need to open a training session for their employees...to learn how to properly stick a sticker...those centrino and windows stickers are surprisingly perfectly aligned this time BUT one FCC ID sticker at the bottom of the laptop was misplaced and kept sticking out and a screw covering thing on the LCD lid was also ****ed up..... I ended up removing all the FCC ID stickers and re-seat the screw covering sticker...fortunately the removability for the FCC ID stickers are A++ just like the centrino sticker (windows sticker B-)

Vostro 1500 driver page has most if not all the XP drivers except the BT one. The driver is on Dell's ftp I am not sure why it is not linked to the 1500 driver page.

The bt driver (same as the one on the disc)

^ I actually just ordered this notebook for my wife, and didn't get the BT option. I haven't read much into the world of BT and compatibility, but is it safe to assume that if I install this driver on her Vostro, will she then have BT capability?

no, you'll need the actual physical 355 BT card for that to work.
