if you have the CORE 2 DUO T8300(2.4GHZ) there is a shortgage for that
i trying to get more inside information from my dell resouses on what exactly is happening... (and canadian sourses, not philliphans)
i guess we both will be waiting for a while...what i really want is an exact time when i will get it, because every day i call in the EDD gets further and further away....
I hope to post more accurate information from manufacting department at dell, word is that there swamped but lets see what next week what information i can pry from resourses

So i get to work today, rush to dell's order status page to just recive the statisfaction of seeing "Shipped" next to Order status

My order date is : Sept 24. 2008
I called in right now and ship date is Nov 19, 2008 (i know i call in tomorrow that will be 20th) orginally it was oct 8, 2008
I hope to have more info tomorrow, i got a dell guy that that i work closely with (for work purposes), hope to pry more info out of him...
I know first they where short on LCD, then Laptop Base, and now cpu is back ordered. -

Here is the update from a inside source from Dell Canada.
The Reason Renegage got his dell laptop order early is his his parts are in stock (how many people order extreme cpu, so not high demand).
The parts that is holding back my laptop the CPU (is back ordered to mid - november).
So we should not expect our laptops till the last week of november.
There is nothing Dell can do, and I know people personally in Dell if they where capable of sending it out today they would have send mine out today.
Issue is there is nothing to send out, since there is a part shortage.
I would not bother calling in to Dell customer service. You will just get a canned response, and nothing they can do.
I would check on Nov 17, 2009 what the status of your laptop is -
after 2 months of delay and no communication, the system automatically assumed i would want my order canceled...i personally talked to dell a few days ago and last months, my aunt (its also her account) has talked to them multiple times...
personally i think there was some type of dell screw up, but they said what was holding up the order was the somkey gray, and if i want blue or red its a at 26 day wait, and with whit the laptop will be at my house on the 10ths... so i went with white...
so i pretty much had to cancel and reorder a new color.
as my new collectors ed. of fallout 3 just sits here as a paper weight. -

My order status says the EDD for my m1730 (smoky grey) is Dec.8. It's been in production since I placed the order (Oct. 28). Anybody has an idea why it takes that long? Will it be delayed? Thanks for your help in advance.

Got an email friday evening it will be mailed in 3 business day... waited 8 weeks for my smoky gray to not be sent! then randomly canceled! so replaced the order for bone white... the order is taking less then 10 days....

Wanted to chime in since my two 1730 orders were processed so quickly. My wow 1730 took 7 days from the day I ordered to delivery (free shipping) my 1730 red took 8 days from order to delivery. All in all I'm quite pleased with time frame for these units. My orders were full up sytems, x9000's, 8800gtx etc... even a few 128SSD's on the last order and again no delay's so perhaps they have everything under control now.

Nice - baffles me that something as simple as a wing color change requires a cancel and re-order.... but oh well.

I remember reading your posts and thinking to myself what a bugger. I needed to make a change on a mini order (simply apply a percent off coupon) and had to refuse shipment on them and re-order. Only resulted in a net 2 days longer to get the mini's but seems so inflexible.

but mine is an exchange because my old laptop died so get a upgrade to to m1730
but had to go through hell....for that -
upgrade is nice but I see your "hell" point. What died 1710? or.... I have a 170 that is having issues still covered under warranty but have put off calling Dell due to the "hell".

By the way, the Bone white is WAAAYYY nicer then i expected i think i almost perfure it.... if you still waiting and considering reordering in white to get your system sooner, i would recomand it...

Looks like they may have another shortage of the gray - since they dropped it again from the web-site. IMO - order what wings they have... or pay the price by the wait of death.

My turn for a story:
XPS m1710, video memory failure. An exchange for a m1730 was processed on Sept. 17th, with estimated delivery of Sept 25th. This is with Dell Canada, by the way.
Mid-October, I'm told it will be delayed until at least Nov 3rd. Multiple calls to XPS Support were not helpful. I tried explaining once about the coloured LCD panel flaps, but the agent didn't seem to understand what I was saying.
Two weeks ago I filed an Unresolved Issue form on the Dell Canada website. No reply.
Last week, I emailed the Executive Support Team, via an email address listed on Dell Canada profile of the Better Business Bureau website. Despite an auto-reply saying my issue would be actioned in 24-48 hours, I received no reply.
Today, I emailed the emergency escalation contact in the same auto-reply. He replied back promptly, telling me that my ordered was delayed by part of the LCD panel, and that I had to wait until Nov 28th. I sent back a reply saying that yes, I could see on their website that the Sapphire Blue and Smoke Grey options for the LCD panel were back-ordered. I asked that my order be changed to a Crimson Red. Not my first choice, but how much time to I spent staring at the back of my screen?
Haven't heard back from him yet. -

The hard part with me seems to be getting somebody to actually change it! Tech support didn't know what I was talking about...we'll see if this other guy emails me back tomorrow.

Call XPS tech support, they are the ones that can help you out. It might be a hit and miss
Also make sure you get your Customer number, and order number to track the laptop -
The red casing looks so cool, better then the grey

I just checked my order status.
I should get it on Nov 24th today.
Will keep you updated - and apperently no backorder yet withthe red casing...hopefully will get more details tommorow
