    Dell Xps M1730 Order Status

    My order status still hasn't been updated...it still reads Sept 25th.

    The guy I'm in contact with said he'll get a 'refresh quote' for the red version of the system...whatever that means.

    Well, the guy I'm in touch with has said he will get a 'refresh quote' for the red casing. Hopefully that will help.

    I'm not %100 sure what he meant by that. He says he's going to request a refresh quote for a red system, and keep me posted on any -other- issues that may arise. It does sound a bit vague. I guess I'll see what happens. Either he does a new order and I get it sooner, or he doesn't and I have to wait.

    I dunno. I like the grey better, but the more I look at the red, the more it grows on me. Red is our college (and national) colour too, so it would match my PT gear...my tracksuit...my scarlets...my school jacket. <sigh>

    The guy is processing an order for the red system for me, as opposed to the grey. I should have my new order number by tomorrow. I sure hope that speeds things up.

    Yea my new order was put in on Nov 10, 2008 - RED back

    and today the laptop is built and its in testing stage
    Hopefully it will get shipped out tommorow

    Wow, why are you guys ordering m1730?
    I guess most of you have m1710 died on you because of the video card, mine died twice, but i have no extended warranty.

    It's obviously a defect, but they won't do anything because i didn't pay extra to correct their issue.

    Yup. My m1710 died on me, and they're sending an m1730 to replace it, as I have extended warranty

    I was looking at my m1710 today and thinking 'Man, that's still one sharp-looking laptop.' I'm going to miss the black and silver.

    Not crazy about the carbon/plasticY on the standard 1730 (wow version very nice in flat black IMO) - but overall I don't think you will miss your 1710 too much :)

    GET THAT FLAP CHANGED. It is the only thing holding up your order. 4 day turn around time here and I had to make sure from a superviser that it would not be using ANY OF THE FREAKING BACKORDERED FLAPS. so from my m1710 being dead to getting the new laptop took 4 days.

    Also dell is kind of retarded. I got 0 updates on my order, order number, tracking. The laptop just arrived out of the blue. A day later i recieved a call with my "order number and tracking". Piece of ****s... I missed my delivery but should be able to get it today.

    The guy handling my case is supposed to be emailing my new order number to me today. I'm hoping my laptop will be in early next week, for a total of 9 weeks turnaround time.

    Luckily, all my mail goes through the college orderly room. No worries about being in my room to receive it.

    Dont be surprised if your order status doesn't say much. Like i said by the time I even got my order status it was 1 day after I recieved the laptop.

    i miss my college days
    calling in sick to school so much easier then work
    i plan to to work from home the day i get my laptop
    i just waiting for the tracking number
    it takes 3 to 4 days to ship to canada, and get by custom (what free trade?)

    Calling in sick? What is this calling in sick you speak of?

    I go to the military college. Attendance is taken at all classes, and if I try claiming I'm sick I have to have a medical chit to prove it.

    It may depend on the color of the lighting. I know there is a delay on blue of more than 18 days.

    Weird. Mine is 'in production' with an estimated delivery of the 21st.

    On the other hand, Kingston is close to the distribution center in Mississauga. When I ordered my first XPS, the shipping was incredibly fast, even though I just payed for standard shipping.

    XPS Support can't tell me what this stupid web error means. Sounds like I have to email the guy who setup the order Monday.

    Dammit! Just when I thought they were actually FIXING things!

    I called them this weekend, and they had no idea what was going on.

    I got a call from a supervisor today telling me that my laptop is built and 'ready to ship' and will be shipping out 'today or this week'. He was also able to provide the service tag.

    Seems like a pretty big window there. And the website still gives the same error.

    The headache continues:

    One guy called me this morning with the new service tag and said the unit was built and ready to ship.

    Another guy calls and leaves me with a Purolator PIN number for an order that was shipped to Ottawa.

    I call back, and find out that wasn't my order. He then tells me that they just got the request for my system exchange and that it would be built and shipped this week.

    Conflicting stories. Nothing new for Dell, apparently.

    On hold with tech support...they can't find my order...

    Apparently, my order for the Crimson Red was canceled.

    On the other hand, the service tag that was given to me Monday is now associated with a Smoke Grey system. If I look it up on the Dell Product Support page, it shows a ship date of 20 Nov 2008.

    Fingers crossed...

    Seems like I'm finding this everywhere on forums for the m1730


    Mines a replacement for a fried m1710... took me ages to get them to replace it after sending it to get it fixed 4 times and them replacing EVERYTHING short of the actual problem... the video card. Why didn't they replace that you ask? Because they don't have it anymore and didn't want to give me a new laptop -_-

    And that was Sept 5th that they decided they would replace it and put in an order for an m1730 for me.... sigh....

    since then it has been phone calls with cust. service ranging from them knowing nothing to them being absolutely sure its shipping on xx Date. Both of which proved absolutely useless.

    I sure do hope it will come but now it seems like I'm just not getting answers anywhere... Oh and when I asked if there were color options on the screen when they ordered a replacement they said no... I knew otherwise but I though it would be smart not to argue with the man that just gave me what I was trying to get for a long time... not someone telling me to buy an aftermarket cooling pad but a fully functioning computer.


    And theres my rant.... yup.

    No, the canceled order does not show in production.

    And the other one does not show as 'shipped', even though the service tag system says it was shipped yesterday.

    I'm so pissed off. That's all I can say.

    EDIT: Spoke to the guy who worked with me last week...the order was canceled due to some kind of Microsoft upgrade. He's put it back through again. Back to square 1.

    I would just like to say after checking the website a billion times and it still saying that my order was estimated for Sep 28th delivery it has now FINALLY UPDATED. It says my order HAS BEEN SENT!!! :O

    Estimated arrival is Dec 2nd.... 2.5 months later..... sigh...

    My laptop has finally arrived. I wound up with the gray version, and I'm almost satisfied.

    I'm a bit annoyed that the laptop (and the adapter, holy crap!) are larger than the m1710. I can live with that.

    I'm also having trouble with SLI. Either they didn't install the second video card, or there's something I'm not understanding. Windows only shows a single GeForce 8700 in Device Manager.

    EDIT: After an hour on the phone with tech support, I have to ship my laptop in to have the video card replaced.

    Don't feel bad. I had got the wrong wireless card. They downgraded me the Wireless G card. Thank god i have onsite support, so tommroow they coming over to install the wireless N card
