Yo , mine is a Sony and its made in japan and also the code is RD857 which is the effected one but strange is after an PPID verification it said "no need for replacement" so does it mean mine is uneffected?
Has anyone experience things like this?

El-Prodigy, that is a bit too close, without needing the replacement. You may want to call Dell in a few days (after the rush) and double check that.

The way Dell is handling this, well .... it's the reason I just bought my 2nd Laptop from them, (E1405 not affected). Becomming a big fan of Dell.

Unless !! .......... that 4.1 million should really be 8.2 million?, hmmm we'll see.

My 6400's is fine and I checked the 1300's anyway, which is also fine.

It's not all batteries in the models listed:

It would be nice if I could get in to the website to verify! It seems my 1705 has the C5446 [9 cell] which is on the list. And I purchased mine 2 days after the cut off, but it came from the "OUTLET" so you better check 'em reguardless of date. Oh, and their toll free number is real "helpful"- "were to busy to talk to you, go to our impossible to get into website!" [summarized in my words] ggrrrrrrrrrr.

Thankfully my battery wasn't listed...although there still is a problem. Is it bad that the white sticker with the barcodes on it is NOT on my battery? They never put it on. Battery works great though.

Good lord they had better not do that the next time I order a laptop. I'd rather wait another day than have a box with DELL written all over it just sit on my doorstep in plain view for 3 or 4 hours.

My experience is that any order requires a signature or they will re-attempt delivery the next day.

I am going to be an Exchange student in Ecuador in a week and a half. I can't have all of this **** come up now. I just had my dvd drive replaced because it would skip non stop, and they made me reformat once already. I can't be doing this this close to going to South America. I need to get my Passport stuff finished... I am probably not going to get my battery replaced.

this is kind of off-topic, but i just saw the news on t.v. and it said it will probably cost Dell and Sony 400million dollars or something. Do you guys think this will affect dell's prices on future laptops (higher or lower)? especially how this will probably hurt dells image alot.

I just checked with Dell, and my battery is NOT being recalled. I have a battery made in Korea, and from what the website says batteries made in China and Japan are deffective, not Korea.

wow , I'm glad that many people who got RD857 doesn't effected either so that's mean I'm not the only one :D
but I won't be happy if the website turn out to be mistaken and my laptop explode ,if that happen I would take the burning laptop and smash it to Michael's head ;)

Even if its made by a Japanese company, it's most likely made in China, not Japan.

It actually says that it's made in Japan, China or Korea. Mine for example is a Sanyo made battery and it's made in Japan. (Not effected by Recall)

    Haha go Sony!

Sold on ebay of course as "brand new"

The low number of replacements is a bit surprising. Just shows you how many millions of laptops dell is selling. None of my offices 5 dells need replacing eiter.

Well, I called tech support to get my install cd's {they are sending 6} I mentioned that I have I have not been able to get through on the web site to check my battery status, so she looked it up for me. She says its ok. Even though it has the 0C5446 #. That is good. Its a 9 cell, wonder if that matters? She gave me a phone number so I can varify for my self, 1-866-342-0011 which I intend to do. I tried once and got into the "holding pattern" but had to answer a more important incoming call.

Is the battery on the XPS M1210 (as of Aug 16/06) fall under the recall? Or does the M1210 not fall under recall at all?

I'm little surprised that only 6 saying their batteries been recalled. I really expected it to be lot more (out of 5 million!!!!) than 6.
