I really hope it is soon, otherwise I have been looking at the latitudes, I like the 6320's but I don't like the screen resolution.

Dell Shipping Sandy Bridge PCs, Plans Ultra-Slim Laptop - Desktops and Notebooks - News & Reviews - eWeek.com -
Quote from the article Cin linked:
"The new ultra-slim Dell notebook will be part of an XPS consumer laptop line, PC World reported March 7, citing "a source familiar with Dell's plans," and said the line will "draw heavily" from the Adamo."
So it looks like this might not be a business machine after all. Price tag for a consumer based updated Adamo? My guess, between $900-1,200 if it includes a SB/Cougar setup.
The ThinkPad X1 will be as someone else noted in this price range. -
Well the press release said unvail date April and that pretty much means tomorrow. fingers crossed they stick to it and come up with something good something between £1300 - £2000 with preimum quality.
-
Here's the PC world article. They're not known for having great inside info though.

I wonder if it could be a refresh of the Latitude Z, that was really thin.
-
I've recently read that Apple is going to refresh their MBAs in June so Dell should hurry up with their reply.
-
Well tomorrow is the last day of april, I just think they should release some specs even if it won't be avaliable for a week or so.
I guess the sony SA and Z and MBA refresh is not until June so if that is the competition now a rush.
Hope that means it will have more impressive specs than the SB or Toshiba machines that are already avaliable. -
if its not too expensive it be tempting
-
So they didn't announce anything? May 1st here now.
-
I thought the Sony Z was replaced by the S.
-
Oh no, a new VAIO Z will be announced later this year.
-
Engadget just posted on a development in this line of laptops:
Dell's ultra-thin laptop will have a 15.6-inch screen, tread lightly on your wallet? -- Engadget
It's coming soon, starting at 15.6 inches and priced under $1000. More models to follow, hopefully in smaller form factors as well. -
Lionel from Dell said it will be announced this month.
-
-
The article does say 'more models to come' so perhaps they'll start out with a 15" and then bring out a 13/14".
-
Pretty disappointing they said in march that the amazing new thin sb d light model would be announced next month but now unlike all the other models they have updated all they have done in announce the screen size with more models to follow.
The 15" mbp is 2.54kg so can't see dell getting less than maybe 2.2kg without performance loss, and once you get to that weight and footprint it's a very small difference. The sub $1k price tag is very business fixed so unlikely to see high res screens on these models.
Sony SA should be available from start of next month who knows about the dells now. -
Ok, great news, I got confimation that it will have a high resolution screen.
-
Dell has some pretty nice thin laptops as it is. I tend to like the smaller Dell Vostro V13 and V130 laptops.
But it would be nice if they could release a super-thin 13.3" laptop, that had decent battery life. I'd be all over that -
Yeah, as I posted in the first post of this thread, a larger version of V130 called V150 with a good full HD screen or at least 1600x900 and replaceable battery, then I'm buying for sure, but I'm not sure this will be a Vostro, I think it will be a series we haven't seen before with a new name.
-
I'd like to see the new laptop emerge as part of the XPS series of laptops.
I'm not a huge fan of Vostro laptops, because the support on them is pretty bad. But then again, the whole point of the Vostro laptop line was to save money by cutting down on support. So I got what I paid for... -
You can always buy better support, even for Vostro, so I'm not worried about that.
-
All I buy are Vostro's, have never extended the warranty, they all still work. You do know you can buy extra coverage pretty cheap and Dell will even remind you of that when your warranty is about to expire. And yes the warranty is built into the price.

Rodster, you seem very narrow minded with your laptop preferences.
I can tell you from experience that being "open minded" when it comes to laptop tech has lead me to find pure bliss from things I would have never thought about beforehand.
Case in point: Before I owned the Alienware R2, I never thought once about screen quality (nor did I know much about it). Now, because I had that R2 with the RGB LED, I can't go back. All my devices have excellent displays, and the experience of using my laptop has increased tenfold since the days where I ignored screen quality.
I understand you mentioned price as a limiting factor, but by limiting yourself to $500 and lower, you're cutting out all the fun of owning a high tech piece of equipment. I think you'd really surprise yourself if you "splurged" on a $1000 XPS 15 with the B+RG LED screen, for example. You would be blown away both by the performance and the quality of the display the likes of which you've surely never seen before.
I'm not putting you down, just giving my 2 cents. To each their own, but I used to be like that and then I awoke to all the wonderful tech possibilities in modern laptops.
And don't put down this new Dell being 15 inches. If it really is that thin and light, the size of the display will mean nothing if it is lighter than most 13 inch laptops. Don't limit yourself with pre-conceived notions!
All the best. -
In contrast, the Adamo and Adamo XPS, while having it's quirks spec wise, are the most beautiful laptops out there. -
wishlist for the base model:
Adamo / M65000 design< -.8" thick
< 5 pounds
i5
no GPU
1440 * 900 matte screen
backlit keyboard
10 hr realworld battery life
< $900 -
He said higher than 1600x900, so I would expect 1920x1080, which sounds really nice, I'm quite excited about this laptop, I need to get a life I guess
-
Sort of with you there ghegde but I'd like a discrete GPU too but probably not that likely or will be a low power version.

Hurry up Dell!!!! -
With every laptop that I have owned from any manufacturer, I have bought 3-year warranties with some kind of accidental damage coverage on them.
But not on this Vostro V130 that I am using. It has a 1-year standard warranty on it. The problem is, I got it so cheap, that I can't bring myself to buy an extended warranty on it. My plan if the laptop breaks after the 1-year warranty is to either sell the laptop for spare parts, or throw it away and buy something else. Until then, I have a standard warranty, which provides support out of India, rather than the "premium" or "gold level" support that I am normally used to.
I realize that I can easily buy better levels and extended support - but it just doesn't make financial sense for me to do so. -
Seems like this and other laptops that will be released in this line will be matching with laptops like the S9 , Lenovo x1 (may 18th), and Macbook Air (possibly june refresh).
I'm thinking it'll be released around the same time as the lenovo. -
Yeah, but unlike the competition, this Dell we have a (probably) full HD resolution screen, no one else has this for an ultra slim 15", so that makes the Dell unique, and very interesting in my opinion...

Back in the day, there used to be 14.1" WUXGA 1920x1200 notebooks. I had a Dell one and it was great... then they discontinued that panel and went to 15.6" ones... had one of those too and while it was bigger than my 14" I still appreciated the pixel density.
There are many of us who prefer the higher resolution and screen real estate but also the portability of something less than a 17" behemoth. -
I've been following the news on this laptop pretty closely. I am in the market for a new laptop but based on a lot change overs happening to SB chips I've put my search on hold for a couple of months, plus I'm only interested in a 1600x900 or greater screen resolution.
My biggest dislike about the current 14" laptops is 95% don't have a screen with a resolution over 1366x768. Yuck, coming from a 1440x900 at that same size, no thanks. That being said if I might be willing to step up to a 15" that is the same weight or less than your average 14" but with better specs and a larger screen resolution. I'd also be curious to see how smaller sizes of this new laptop spec out, namely in the screen department.
Currently using my old D620 that I got from my old job when they were going to toss it out! and my other laptop was an A8JS but the screen is dead and I'm ready for something new. -
Could this be it ?

EDIT: Wait a sec, I just saw the new post, It looks promising, but I hope that "cappucino" is not the only option.. And I see the glossy finish around keyboard

-
wait a sec...the studio 15z might not be the same as the xps 15z. Image Gallery: LAPTOP Magazine - Product reviews, tech news, buying guides, and more
hmmmm.
EDIT: disregard my previous posts. im a moron. it appears that the STUDIO 15z was on sale for a while in the past. the XPS 15z, just revealed in the engadget post is the new model for which i have no more info. sorry guys. -
-
From the pictures, it seem the XPS 15z has giant bezel.
Nvidia N12P is a one of GT 550M/540M/525M/520M. One could hope for the GT 550M. -
Why don't you make it just black and simple, why traveling around colours and textures? To me the look of the XPS Studio is better. But the other stuff (specs, functionality, place of airvent
) should be better. Lets wait for the reviews.
-
The keyboard is horrible.
As a coder who uses the keyboard a lot, I prefer to have dedicated pg/home/end keys... boo.
