The outsides look good from these few photos. But the keyboard is horrible! I agree!!! What is this? Dell claims that they took the design from the Adamo, not from Dora the Explorer's laptop! What happened to the edgy design?

Oh and I love the 70's radiator heat vents. They should come in handy in the winter months. -
-
I really hope this is not it, I would prefer a new design based on Latitude or Vostro series...
-
PC makers just cant seem to design a decent laptop -
I can't see much difference to the current xps 15 which was just refreshed with sb chips.

It looks a little like the Studio 15z with a white dress and different keyboard:
Dell Studio 15z Laptop Details | Dell -
The keyboard looks like it was lifted directly from the Adamo XPS (except right most column of keys is absent). Having used that keyboard for about a year I have to say it's very high quality, great tactile feedback, but no way to do backlighting on it (because the keys have metal caps). I would have rather seen plastic with backlight.
For the picture of two laptops stacked on top of each other - does anyone know if thats the 15z stacked on top of anotehr 15z or on top of a regular xps 15? -
I have been waiting for this ultra-slim laptop for so long!! Must say that I am a bit dissapointed when i first saw the pictures of the so called xps 15z.
I thought it would be a completely new design but NO! There is just something wrong with the Dell designers. Did all the designers for XPS M1530 go to Apple?
Anyway, I hope that there will be a black version of this laptop and things will look a better I suppose. -
I may just have to settle for the Sony CB.
Not liking that keyboard at all.
@huai: You can still do keyboard backlighting, there are some notebooks where the lighting is around the keys, not through them. -
maybe its me, but i dont see the supposed image of the laptop being "ultra slim" at all...
-
Exactly, which is why I hope and think this is not it.
-
Here are the photos. Avert your eyes if you must:

Sort of reminds me of something like:
or
Between this new model, the m11x and the e6520, Dell must have the worst designers in the business. I'm in the market for a new laptop, and they certainly missed my demographic. -
and i just go my xpsl502x
l kinda like the way it looks.
looks retro, like an old tv and typewriter.
i wonder if the hardware will be as the good as thick xps. -
-
^^The last pic is of 2 together right? Right??
-

-
They should call it the "Uglamo".
-
never mind
-
damn, seriosuly does Dell have a design dept. ? if they didnt have design team they could atleast have put a dell logo on a slimmed down M14x and kept the camaroish angles.
excuse my 4 second paint job

According to amazon it's as thick as the xps 15 and weights 1 pound.
-
-
For what it's worth here are the original XPS 15 specs. I have a feeling Amazon just copied those:
Dimensions & Weight
Width: 15" (381mm)
Height: 1.3" (32.2mm) front /1.5" (38.2mm) back)
Depth: 10.4" (265.4mm)
Weight: Starting weight of 6.14lbs. (2.78kg)10 with 6-cell battery; 6.51lbs.(2.96kg)10 with 9-cell battery -

Well it looks like that site had to take down it's pictures so there is some validity to it.
-
BTW on the keyboard, could be totally wrong but it almost looks like it was taken on a lens that had major fish eye. Might be just a normal keyboard. I say that because the "wave" isn't really uniformally (not sure if that's a word) curved
-
The speakers and keyboard are ugly, although from the outside the laptop looks pretty good. And it looks about as thin as the 15.4" Macbook Pro. If this Dell weighs under 5 lbs and has 1920x1080 res, I may be tempted to buy one!
-
Why can't these companies hire better designers!
-
^^The actually do!
(NOT).
I was so hoping for something really nice....: ( -
Let's wait for the official announcement, no one said that those pictures are correct, I really hope for a more business like laptop.
-
-
-
I heard from Lionel at Dell, that it will be announced officially late May, so let's keep our hopes ud for a nice FHD thin and light Latitude or Vostro, no way I want another glossy XPS machine.
-
-
Still ugly. Those speaker grills ruin the design. Game changer? I think not.
Bronsky -
Hmm, can't see much, but I fear a glossy consumer type laptop, but it must be announced soon.
-
That better be an IPS(or the like) display with HD+ or better res, because that is the only thing that could really save the awkward design this has. We might get lucky and this may come with an anti-glare coated display?
From the video it looks like it comes with an optical drive, two usb 3.0 ports, and three speakers(or am seeing things in that video). Interesting. -
Seems to be confirmed now that its the XPS 15z, I was hoping for a business model instead, oh well.
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
They should have stayed with the desing concept of the adamo, it reminded me of the envy 133, and that was one sexy momma, huh! -
Dell will sometimes retool models across consumer and business lines so maybe there will be a version of this XPS as a Lat or a Vostro.
I do wish makers would stop combining the pg/home/end keys into the cursor keys... what's wrong with that dedicated vertical row on the right hand side? Or better yet, the old 4/6 key cluster at the top right corner of the keyboard like the older Lats or Thinkpads. -
