BTW, one of my buddys got yesterday his black M1330 in germany and the fingerprint reader was missed too on his notebook (no it's not the same guy). - So I doubt somehow that it has at all to do with accident that the FPs are missing.

Now for real, why the heck is it so bloody hard to paint that darn cover in white? It's not like they let some apprentices paint those parts in the next corner right to the assembly line.

They ought to employ professionals with the according equipment.

Well, my college ordered 3x XPS M1330 (one in black, red and white) all with the LED panels, BT, FP etc.

    • The black one was ordered 06.07., was estimated to be shipped until/on 10.09., but finally has been shipped 07.08. and arrived 10.08. but without the ordered FP.

    • The red one was ordered 28.06., was estimated to be shipped until/on 17.08., but finally has been shipped 08.08. and will arrive on monday.

    • The white one was ordered 28.06., is estimated to be shipped until/on 28.09., but alah knows when this one will go into production.

It will be interesting to see, if Dell for the other two awaited XPS models will also have missed to include the FP. If so, it will have method and is for sure not by accident.

Related to 13.3" alternatives with LED panels to the XPS, take a look at the Sony Vaio SZ (but no HDMI port here) and the new upcoming Asus U3. Do a search here on NBR after these.

    Hey all.

I had an idea to knock together a few webpage driven my a SQL database and PHP to keep track of Dell orders. The system was designed with the XPS M1330 in mind but will work with any system (Inspiron, etc)

It is designed for us folks to be able to see the system configurations of others, when they ordered their system, when it is schedulled to be delivered, when it was actually delivered, and so on.

The idea behind this is to give some of us who still haven't recieved or Dell XPS system or similar to be able to better understand when we might have this priviledge!

What was your EDD before ?
dammit, my EDD is 28 August. I dont know if that really means that they are chainging mine too?

And really sad to know that people started to get their laptop here in Germany since I ordered it really early and they still have it before me.

I got my m1330 here in Finland last friday (10.08.2007) and it was actually shipped from Limerick the friday before (03.08.2007). I ordered 09.07.2007 so I waited about a mont. It's a nice machine and I'm very happpy with the purchase. Oh and I have the Toshiba made WLED panel.

And then the bad news: The Fingerprint Reader is missing from mine as well. So after reading about others in europe having issues about it I wonder if Dell just decided to ship them without it to meet even halfway decent 1 month delivery time and hopes no-one will notice... (Actually I was so awed by the thingh that I had been playing around in windows for almost 45 minutes before i noticed it's missing :D)

    Specs are as follows:

    Dell XPS m1330 Tuxedo Black (Vista HP, 1280x800 W-LED, T7500, 2GB, GeFGo 8400 GS, 160Gb, 802.11n, BT, Fingerprint, 6-cell bat.)

The orders with the missing fingerprint readers i wonder if Dell will send out engineers to these people to swap the chasis as opposed to getting them to send their notebook back. I can imagine them doing that actually.

That will be interesting. I think they probably will get users to send them back to the factories though because it will save them on "skilled" support labour costs.

gelbegeld I also ordered in Germany with mostly the same specs as you except that I asked for a CCFL screen, as you see my sig we have also the same delays. So when Dell says the delays are because of LED displays it's BS!

Hey, that's an awesome app/database, Jtromans.

You should plug in the 120+ pre july-15th orders I compiled in the "waited the longest" thread, to your database.

Im going to get my laptop this week (I assume) and then Im not going to want to maintain the list, lol.

well the CSR i spoke to today definitely had that idea. .

I called Dell today about my missing fingerprint reader

    here's how the conversation went

Rep:good morning Blah Blah how can i help you?
Me: yeah, i got my laptop after waiting forever and Dell has delivered me wrong specification.
Rep: sorry to hear that, what seems to be wrong?
    Me:Fingerprint scanner is missing
Rep:Not to worry, we will get that fixed in jiffy.
    Me:what do you mean?
Rep:I will call my XYZ department and get them to deliver fingerprint reader ASAP
    me: Deliver what??
    rep:Fingerprint reader
Me:its not somethingyou attach, its embedded in the body of the laptop (you fool)
rep:not to worry sir, an engineer will come to your place and install it
me: Aaarrghhh....(you bloody idiot) is the engineer gonna make a hole in the body and stick FP reader in it??
rep:urm.... let me put you through my tech support team

seriously, where do they get these people from??

i put the phone down on that moron and spoke to XPS tech support, they promised me a call back within 24 hours. hopefully it will be a replacement because there is no way i am gonna let them rip my laptop apart to fit a FP reader.

Ok, please let us know how they will try to handle the missing fingerprint reader issue. A friend of mine got also two XPS where Dell missed to include the fingerprint readers and we will have to call the Dell customer support tomorrow for this theme.

BTW, isn't it ironically that people who ordered the XPS with a FP didn't got them build-in, but instead people who ordered a XPs without one, got the FP included...

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=2321776&postcount=44

Well, let's see what the puzzling Dell support has to say about that.

So i've added two new features to the system tracker.

The first is 'bug tracker'. The idea behind this is that if and when people notice an issue with their system such as bad build quality, CPU whine, res changing after lid opens (etc.), they enter the bug into the system along with a definitive solution.

There are numerous long threads popping up over the place which makes it hard to track down the actual solution (if there is one) to a problem. Keeping them all in one place will mean it is simple and easy to find the solution.

The two new links related to this on the menu are:
My Bug(s) - Bugs you have personally submitted.
Bug Tracker - All bugs submitted by everyone.

The second new option I have added is a Review Tracker. Since people have started to receive their XPS M1330's, people have started to write some very good custom reviews which are not getting the lime-light they deserve. The idea behind the review tracker is to keep links to or copies of reviews on one place filed clearly by system and author. You can either add a link to a review via the URL option, or you can repliacte your review by submitting it into the description. I have even allowed pictures to be uploaded - so free image hosting for reviews as well. Please make sure that if you are going to submit a review in its entirity and you did not write it, that you have the permision of the original author.

I'm going to start populating the Bug Tracker and Review Tracker but I would also like the help of all you guys to keep it up to date - as everyone has done so well with the System Tracker.

    Cheers,
    J

I spoke with the guy whom I ordered the laptop from and he was very sorry for the missing reader. My only option to get the reader would have been to send it back but I didn't want to since I'm afraid I would probably have to wait 2+ weeks again and they might do some other damage on it while installing the reader. So I settled for a deal that they will send me an external USB fingerprint reader (since I mainly only wanted to try it out as a gimmick, I don't really need it on the laptop) and the Auto/Aar/AC adapter.

PS. I've been extremely happy with both the quality and features of my m1330

loads of people have been put back to the 10th October. It seems to me that its a batch push back date and that the actual "personal production" of each laptop is a farse.

It seems to me Dell build up computers with random specs and ship out to those who's orders match the available computers, rather than build computers that match the actual orders and ship out in a first come first served basis.

The fact we all got put back to the same day prooves its an automated computer system with no actual intelligence.

Hi all ... just seeing the magical "dispatched" message in the system tracker and was called to say that my M1330 has actually "left the building" so should be seeing it soon. Specs below ... they seem to be getting these moving now so hopefully y'all will start receiving them in the coming days. Hopefully it's been worth the wait!

Order Status page says I'm also "In Production"... but the date is "Friday July 27 2007" - which is the date that my order used to show as "pre-production", after its first delay.

I don't know whether to be excited or not :S Probably best to be un-excited for now.
