pre-production means that they are gathering the parts for your system, basically they just wait...

Firstly welcome. The problem is because of a lack of parts on certain components. The 'general' shortages are with the W-LED displays and also the processors of all types, especially the T7500 and T7700.

That can vary dramatically. Our friends over the pond in USA are experience a mini-phenomenon where XPS M1330 machines are moving through pre-production into production, kitting, boxing and shipping VERY fast. Sometimes over the course of one day. Others are experiencing sitting in 'production' and 'boxing' for week(s).

My general feeling on this matter is Dell Europe are starting to ramp up production now and we're starting to see the first wave of backed up machines come through.

    No not yet!

Not good enough - you will be able to get more out of Dell than that - try calling a sales rep and getting a discount on your order. If they say they can't help (which they can up to a point)... once you receive your laptop you will be to contact XPS customer support and explain your situation and be able to perhaps get a further discount.

    Hope that helps!

hey jtromans you say the shortage is on LED display and T7500 chips it doesn't explain why I'm still in pre-production since I ordered a CCFL LCD and a T7100!

This is very true - i'm surprised you are being held up so much on the CCFL LCD and that chipset. But I know for a fact there is a shortage on ALL processors, but especially the higer end ones.

You could try ringing your sales rep and finding out what part it is specifically that's holding up your delay?

But plwarrior, i ordered it on late june. On direct2dell, they say the everybody who ordered, will recieve it. Isnt it true? or is it better that i reorder it with black color? i know now it is imposible to get one in white, but we are a lot of ppl that ordered before on this color...

    Thanks so much.
There is a huge difference in the offer that DEll's representatives can give.
They told me that they can give about 80 € (that is 60€ bag + 20€ shipping).
I read that an Australian had doubled the memory from 2 to 4 GB (It costs about 360€ in italy).
Why all these differences? I think one option could be offer the 3 years warranty for free to all.

The RAM upgrade is VERY hard to get. I'm spending over £1600 on my laptop which is well over 2000 EUROS and they wouldn't give me the 2 gb upgrade on the RAM despite the fact that i was delayed, lost my date, etc.. all because Dell discontinued the T7700 to most customers. AND i'm buying the SSD off them...

Warrenty is the easiest so i've heard.

I've asked several times by email and the guy's reply is always the same "I can see only the same information as you. In my system is still the date 14th of august." And since I don't speak German I can't really call them either... F**K!

I read advice from another member on this forum who would ring the main Dell number up and say that he wanted to purchase a new laptop - they would then put him through to a sales rep, but once he was there he would change his story and say that he had been put forward to them so they could tell him which part of his build is delaying his order. Worked every time.

Perhaps get a German friend to call them if you live in germany who can speak germans.... and try the same thing. Might not work - this example is from the UK ones.

Ordered mine (Red, LED, T7300) yesterday so I'm probably in for a long wait. EDD they gave me is "on or before 20-SEP-07" (yikes).
Will update on the thread when the status changes from pre-production to the next stage. It's times like this it sucks to be impatient :)

haha so true - i wouldn't dream of ordering the M1330 now given the wait on the system... there are SO many people who haven't received theirs yet and they ordered litterally months ago. Prices will have come down by late september saiko - you might want to consider that :)

The Asus U3 would be great, but it lacks an optical drive which kind off blows. I think I'll have to wait until the end of september and then get a M1330.

I did yes but the lack of optical drive and slower processors ruined it for me. I know they slower processors use less voltage, I kinda need the power :(

you double posted dude :) I don't see why they couldn't fit a slot loading optical drive in there - would have given them the edge they needed over dell to attract the pissed off XPS customer!!

yeah but there is an external drive though, which is nice since in a couple of years DVD writers will be BS, and its not sure if it's the ULV intel chips, because it sports the same graphic card as the M1330.

True but when DVD drives go it is possible to replace the slot loader with a slot loading Blu-Ray, HD or whatever other future tech you prefer.

Worse thing is when you're round a mates house with your lappy and someone suddenly suggests you all play a game of Civ 4 (or whatever) and you need to install it ... no drive! And low and below, you didn't lug your external drive with you 'cos you didn't know u'd need it! I coudl go on ....

For me personally I wouldn't like to ditch my optical drive just yet until everything i use can be got at digitally without it.

You're right i'm not sure which chipset it is, someone saw the T7100 on a white pre production model. However, given that I originally wanted the T7700 and have had to settle with the T7500, I wouldn't dream of dropping that low. I'll admit, if they could offer up a T7500 chipset in that baby i'd be a lot more interested. I'm curious as to its weight.

As far as i'm aware its pretty much possible to change anything in most systems with the right tools (i've updated keyboard, RAM, Hard drives in my old system) - but from a brief flick through the M1330 User Manual, it looks like even the processor chip is replaceable - but don't hold me to that! If you're curious have a look at it if you haven't already.

They expect me to wait 3 months for one notebook! I pretty much exploded thru phone :p Sales rep almost **** his pants and promised to clear things for me.

Another sales rep started yapping something about broken motherboard and then directed the call to another guy :p They are gonna pay for this...

ugh :( I still would have held off cancelling the dell one until u were sure which new laptop you wanted and you'd made the appropriate calls to find out that it was in stock and could be delivered by *** etc. but i think that's just my nature... It sounds more like u've cancelled the M1330 out of principle. I think it was more than likely you would have got it fairly soon.

actually what I really liked about the M1330 was the HDMI port and the remote control, apart from that I was actually looking for a 12" display. I wanted the M1210 but I called them to late...

Do you actually want a 12'' display or are u concerned about weight? If i could i'd take a 15'' screen and keep teh weight off the M1330 :D

I would say first the size matters and then the weight. 13.3" is a nice compromise between the 12" and 14" though. I've wrote a mail to [email protected], I guess its the right person to complain to. And I asked for compensation, then I might reorder the m1330. It's really a pity they stoped the m1210 though, it was really a fine machine.
