I slso noticed that the RAM is only 533MHz when most of the laptops now have 667. Should I buy now and take advantage of the 750 off or wait to see how it all sorts itself out.

I'd also like more feedback on my other questions.

How do you configure the 1405 with a duo processor? The only config page I found was for it with a solo processor.

Also, how do you get the 35% off?

Edit: Nevermind, answered my own questions, followed the config link from earlier in this thread, and found the 35% coupon on ebay :)

It's easy to do by yourself, I have done it with all my Dell's that have blootooth option. And yes the Bluetooth module on the 630m is internal so I am sure the 640m/E1405 will be the same. Both systems are identical except for the Core Duo and 950 Integrated Graphics (I don't game so it's not an issue for me) and the option for a new TrueLife with a 1440x900 resolution (hopefully not the D620's WXGA+ screen with gloss slapped on to it, but it seems this is Dell's way of selling cheap glossy screens except for the 710m's)

whats the main difference between this and the e1505?

i dont really see one except for screen size.

btw, will it be able to run wc3-tft decently with the doubtful integrated card?

It's a smaller screen size, smaller physical unit, and only Integrated Graphics.

The speculation right now is they are waiting until the Inspiron Coupons expire before releasing on Dell Home, but it's currently available on Small Business...

It is available on Dell's website. Go to the "Compare all Notebooks" page and it will be listed there.

As for not being able to get anything other than the solo, there are two options for that. 1st, you can follow this link directly to the config page:

    http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&oc=e1405s2&s=dhs

Or, if you have access to an EPP program and you go through that, you will also get a more robust config page. The EPP config also gives you access to more RAM options (667 instead of 533), but as usual, they are insanely overpriced. If you want 667, you should get the baseline RAM from Dell and upgrade yourself from someplace like NewEgg.

I purchased one for my wife yesterday using the $750 +$100 off coupons, got it down to $1229 AFTER tax. That is with accidental damage coverage, the 2Ghz dual core, and most of the extras. I wish I had access to some of these 35-40% off coupons, as that would have made it an even better deal.

There is a bluetooth option, but it appears as if they still aren't done updating the site.

If you call, I'm sure you'll be able to order it though...

Is it possible that the E1405 will ship sooner than it says on the site? Right now it says it won't ship until 6/1!

Got my confirmation email today, it is shipping 5/18.

FYI, I just ordered mine and did it on the phone so I could inquire about bluetooth...I told her that the front page said bluetooth was an option but that the web ordering didn't allow it. She was able to add in the option for me over the phone. This was through EPP but I'm guessing it will be true for home/small biz as well.

Well I think I'm going to go with the E1405 over the E1505 since it is a bit cheaper with the exact same specs, now the question is: should I order today and take advantage of the current coupon deals or wait until tommorow.

    Edit:
    Should I get 1GB or 2GB of RAM(2dimms)

I would order today bc if better deals come out tomorrow you could always cancel and re-order and the $750 deal is one of the best they cycle through for dell home.

If you are trying to decide between 1 GB and 2 GB, I would get 1 GB 1 DIMM, that way you can easily upgrade by adding another 1 GB card in which you can get for cheaper and install easily.

1GB 1 dimm costs about $150 through Dell. You can get 2 sticks of 1GB 667 for $180 total from some place like NewEgg. So if you are wanting to get anything more than 1GB 2 dimms, get the least you can and do it yourself.

Now that the E1405 has been launched, are there any rumours of Dell adding an option for the X1300/X1400? How long was it before the E1505 had the option of upgrading from the 950 to the X1300/X1400? I dont game, but I do want to run Aero Glass.

Well that's what I thought. But I went and had a look at an LG and HP and they all state max of 128mb in Intel Graphics properties?? All were using the 950 chipset and Duo. Even if you look at Dell.co.uk and then look at another page, it states 128mb for the 640mb in tech specs, then states 224mb elsewhere..

Good thing I ordered yesterday, the new deals aren't as good. They replaced the 750 off with a 600 off so it was worth it to order yesterday.

One question though, I want to request some of the reinstall CD's through Dell chat but I need a service tag first. Someone told me I'd get the service tag with the confirmation email but all I got was an order number and customer number. I want to get the Cd's before my computer gets here so I won't have to wait for them afterwards.

I spoke to Dell today and confirmed there will be no dedicated graphics offered for the e1405.

But yeah, as others have said, I have seen Aero Glass running on an HP notebook with integrated graphics and it looked fine.

it should have been a $10 option during the configuration no? Then they're included and you don't have to pay for seperate shipping of CDs. It may be that if you want the Windows XP CD they have to wait until the system is built and finished before they can provide a CD for that.

I got the XP CD, that was an option in my order, I'm talking about the Resources CD and the Reinstall CD for the MS office software I ordered with it(and sny other software I want to keep after the reformat). Everyone here says you have to request them from Dell.

On a different subject, here is a video of Vista Aero that's supposedly being run with the GMA 950

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you ordered a Microsoft Office product, it should come on a CD along with your system. The MS Office disk has the product activation key you need to register your copy of the software. Office will be on its own separate CD. That shouldn't be something you need to request; if anything, it would be the "any other software" bundle that you're talking about.

    it's not shipping till 5/18,

I was looking through the driver download section of the site, since I can't decide whether to request the Resources CD or just make my own CD. I can identify most of the drivers I need, except for the display where it lists about ten different options with no way to tell which one is which.

how do I know for sure which drivers are for my system?(this is one reason I want the Resource CD since it will indicate all the right ones and since the E1405 is new all the drivers should be current right?) Will it tell me if I enter my service tag? (I still don't have a service tag and would like to get this all straightened out before my PC arrives)

How do I restore the Sound Blaster Audigy thingy after I reformat my HD?

My E1405 system SHIPPED TODAY!!! For a system that just came out, that was the quickest I have ever experienced... Ordered May 2nd and it shipped May 5th... Order Status online shows a ship date of Monday the 8th, so I should have it before mid/end of week. I will post my opinions on it in comparison to the 630m I have now.

I ordered on Wednesday 5/3 and now it's at the boxing phase, but Dell says it won't ship until 5/18! Is there any possibility it will ship sooner?

A funny glitch on Dell right now, the link to the home site says "gaming" yet the description is for the home site. Clicking on it still brings up the home site.

I notice that a couple days ago Dell pulled the 667 MHz memory as an option, you can only get the E1405 with 533 MHz memory now! I wonder if this is a technical problem or a supply problem? Anyone had issues with their E1405 that were caused by 667 MHz memory? I'd like to order one of these computers but I want the fastest memory possible.

At the moment no one has the 640m / E1405... mine is arriving this morning. Dell does things like this once in a while, I am sure you can use 667Mhz RAM on it, I plan on doing so as soon as I evaluate the system and decide whether it's a keeper.

The 667 memory only seems to be available when you are going through some sort of EPP. Otherwise, the only option Dell gives is 533.
